RESUMEN
A case of priapism following prolonged intravenous nutrition is reported. The small amounts of heparin as received by our patient would tend to minimise a risk of hypercoagulability. However, the administration of intravenous feeding agents and the concomitant metabolic acidosis may have enhanced this risk.

Tissue removed at Richardson urethroplasty from 50 patients with the urethral syndrome, together with material obtained from the urethras of 44 cadavers, was examined in an attempt to elucidate the pathological basis for this syndrome. There was a significant increase in fibrous tissue in the urethrovaginal septum, accompanied by a loss of smooth muscle fibres and focal clumping of elastic tissue, in patients with the urethral syndrome.

The technique of urethroplasty described by Richardson has been used to treat 40 patients with the urethral syndrome. 38 patients have had improvement in clinical symptoms and urine flow rate following this procedure. 2 patients have had a relapse of symptoms but both have been improved by further surgery.

A case of proximal tubular adenoma of the kidney (renal "oncocytoma"), confirmed by electron microscopy, is reported. This benign tumour has been mistaken for renal adenocarcinoma in the past by both surgeons and pathologists.

In 14 dogs, using a modified Davis technique, excised segments of ureters were replaced by free, partial-thickness bladder grafts vascularised by omentum. Eight of the 14 dogs had satisfactory radiological appearances of the operated upper tracts at 12 months, and 9 of the 14 were unobstructed urodynamically at this time. Graft segments did not appear to contract. Urothelial and smooth muscle regeneration was observed.
