RESUMEN

We present a case of holmium : YAG laser resection of superficial bladder tumor (HoLRBT). A 73-year-old male was referred to our hospital with elevated prostatic specific antigen. Due to difficulty of urination, holmium : YAG laser enucleation of the prostate was performed under the diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia. During the surgery, superficial bladder tumor was incidentally identified, and HoLRBT was performed. After the operation, histopathological examination revealed urothelial carcinoma, G2 > G1, pTa. The patient has been subsequently followed up for 9 months, and there areno evidence of recurrence. Changing the holmium : YAG laser energy setting can potentially be effective and safe to approach a superficial bladder tumor.

RESUMEN

Changes in sexual function and ejaculatory function in patients who had undergone holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) were investigated using questionnaires. In this study, 77 patients on whom HoLEP was performed at our department from July 2010 to December 2010 were included. Of the 77 patients, the number of patients who could achieve an erection increased from 36 (46.8%) preoperatively to 52 (67.5%) postoperatively after HoLEP. Although postoperative ejaculatory dysfunction was found in 38 (73%) of 52 patients, 47 (90%) experienced orgasms, regardless of ejaculation, which is a high rate. With respect to ejaculatory satisfaction, patients who experienced an ejaculation had significantly higher satisfaction levels than those who did not. These results suggest that changes in postoperative ejaculatory function might affect satisfaction levels of ejaculation.

RESUMEN

We present a case of inverted urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. A 60-year-old male was referred to our hospital for bilateral ureteral stones. When transurethral ureterolithotripsy was performed to treat these stones, a tumor at the trigone of bladder was incidentally diagnosed. This tumor was pedunculated and its surface was not uniformly round. After the operation, this tumor was diagnosed as inverted urothelial carcinoma through the histopathologic examination. The patient was subsequently followed up for 6 months and there was no evidence of recurrence. Although this is a rare case, it is worth considering there is an urothelial carcinoma with inverted proliferation.

RESUMEN

We present a rare case of colonic adenocarcinoma occurring in an Indiana pouch. A 68-year-old man underwent radical cystectomy with Indiana pouch urinary diversion for the treatment of bladder cancer 16 years ago. He was referred to our hospital for the treatment of a right staghorn stone, left renal stone, and pouch stones. Cystoscopic findings showed a 10×10 mm tumor distal to ureter anastomosis. Under the diagnosis of colonic adenocarcinoma in an Indiana pouch, tumor and stones were successfully removed. Adenocarcinoma occurrence after ureterosigmoidostomy is well-known. However, diagnosis of adenocarcinoma in an Indiana pouch is extremely rare.

RESUMEN

A 79-year-old male, who received hemodialysis due to bilateral nephroureterectomy and cysto-prostateurethrectomy. Five months later, an enlarged lymph node was found in the left of inguinal area. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a low density mass from the para-aortic lymph node to the left of inguinal area, suggesting lymph node metastasis of ureteral carcinoma. After 3 cycles of gemcitabinenedaplatin therapy, the size of lymph node metastasis decreased. This is a report of successful treatment of ureteral carcinoma with hemodialysis.

RESUMEN

A 54-year-old man presented with the left inguinal swelling. The operation was performed with diagnosis of the hydrocele of spermatic cord. A tumor was 3.0 cm x 2.5 cm in size, cystic with yellowish serous fluid. After the operation, this tumor is diagnosed as mesothelial cyst through the histopathologic examination. This is a rare case, however it is worth to consider that there is a possibility to be a mesothelial cyst when the tumor has been found at the inguinal region.

RESUMEN

AIM: To test the efficacy of heat- and steam-generating (HSG) sheets for the relief of symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea in young women. MATERIALS & METHODS: Thirty-four female university students were enrolled in this study. HSG sheets generate moist heat to keep the attached body area at 38.5 degrees C for 8 h. Subjects attached the HSG sheet to the lower abdominal or lumbar region for 5 to 8 h once a day on the first, second and third days of menstruation. Subjects documented symptoms of dysmenorrhea (abdominal pain, lumbago and lumbar dullness) on a self-recording form using a 4-score scale of 0 (mild) to 3 (severe) just before applying and after removing the HSG sheet. Either a small (54 cm(2)) or large (164 cm(2)) HSG sheet was used for warming. RESULTS: By applying HSG sheets on the abdomen or lumbar region, 57 and 63% of subjects felt relief of abdominal pains, and 54 and 61% of subjects felt relief from lumbago on the first and second days of menstruation, respectively. Applying the HSG sheets was significantly effective to relieve symptoms compared to the control. Small and large HSG sheets were equally effective. Applying HSG sheets to the abdomen was as effective as that to the lumbar region except for cases of lumbago on the second day of menstruation. Applying HSG sheets two days prior to the onset of menstruation was more effective in relieving lumbar dullness on the second day of menstruation than those just before its onset. CONCLUSION: HSG sheets are useful as non-pharmacological methods to relieve symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea.
