RESUMEN

The light-emitting diode (LED) with an improved hole injection and straightforward process integration is proposed. p-type GaN direct hole injection plugs (DHIPs) are formed on locally etched multiple-quantum wells (MQWs) by epitaxial lateral overgrowth (ELO) method. We confirm that the optical output power is increased up to 23.2% at an operating current density of 100 A/cm2. Furthermore, in order to identify the origin of improvement in optical performance, the transient light decay time and light intensity distribution characteristics were analyzed on the DHIP LED devices. Through the calculation of the electroluminescence (EL) decay time, internal quantum efficiency (IQE) is extracted along with the recombination parameters, which reveals that the DHIPs have a significant effect on enhancement of radiative recombination and reduction of efficiency droop. Furthermore, the mapping PL reveals that the DHIP LED also has a potential to improve the light extraction efficiency by hexagonal pyramid shaped DHIPs.

In the microsurgical area, replantation of ear amputation by microvascular anastomosis is considered to be the best method in terms of texture, color, and shape. Only a few cases of successful ear replantation with microvascular anastomosis have been reported because the size of the vessels is very small, and identifying appropriate vessels for anastomosis is difficult. Furthermore, most cases were total or subtotal (upper two thirds of the ear) amputations, and they were successfully reconstructed by replantation.To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a patient with ear lobe avulsion who underwent successful replantation by single arterial anastomosis. We report our case with a brief review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we present a case of unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) treated by marsupialization followed by surgical enucleation as a conservative approach. UA is a rare, benign, less aggressive, and less invasive variant of ameloblastoma that is observed quite often in younger patients. Radical approaches have effects on the physical and psychological development of a growing young patient; therefore, conservative approaches are widely used for UA management in children. CASE PRESENTATION: This report described a case of an 11-year-old girl with UA of the mandibular molar-ramus area, which also involved impaction of the second and third molars. The lesion was marsupialized, and 31 months after marsupialization, surgical enucleation was performed with extraction of the impacted third molar. The second molar, which was preserved, spontaneously and completely erupted. No recurrence was observed during a 49-month follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Conservative treatments for UA in young patients have more advantages. Our results provide evidence that marsupialization is effective in regressing the lesion size to ease complete removal, preserving mandibular growth, maintaining involved second molar, and promoting the eruption of the tooth.

We present the electrical spin injection from room-temperature ferromagnetic (Ga, Mn)N in nitride-based spin-polarized light-emitting diodes. The electroluminescence spectra from the spin LED indicate the existence of the spin polarization via optical polarization of emitted light up to room temperature. This demonstrates that the spin injection from the (Ga, Mn)N layer into (In, Ga)N quantum wells was achieved persisting up to room temperature by comparing it with the magnetic field dependence of the Hall resistance, which is proportional to the out-of-plane magnetization. These results support that (Ga, Mn)N is an appropriate material for a spin injection source in room-temperature operating semiconductor spintronic devices.
