Delayed repair of fractures seriously impacts patients' health and significantly increases financial burdens. Consequently, there is a growing clinical demand for effective fracture treatment. While current materials used for fracture repair have partially addressed bone integrity issues, they still possess limitations. These challenges include issues associated with autologous material donor sites, intricate preparation procedures for artificial biomaterials, suboptimal biocompatibility, and extended degradation cycles, all of which are detrimental to bone regeneration. Hence, there is an urgent need to design a novel material with a straightforward preparation method that can substantially enhance bone regeneration. In this context, we developed a novel nanoparticle, mPPTMP195, to enhance the bioavailability of TMP195 for fracture treatment. Our results demonstrate that mPPTMP195 effectively promotes the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts while inhibiting the differentiation of bone marrow mononuclear macrophages into osteoclasts. Moreover, in a mouse femur fracture model, mPPTMP195 nanoparticles exhibited superior therapeutic effects compared to free TMP195. Ultimately, our study highlights that mPPTMP195 accelerates fracture repair by preventing HDAC4 translocation from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, thereby activating the NRF2/HO-1 signaling pathway. In conclusion, our study not only proposes a new strategy for fracture treatment but also provides an efficient nano-delivery system for the widespread application of TMP195 in various other diseases.

Porous crystalline materials usually include metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) and zeolites, which exhibit exceptional porosity and structural/composition designability, promoting the increasing attention in memory and neuromorphic computing systems in the last decade. From both the perspective of materials and devices, it is crucial to provide a comprehensive and timely summary of the applications of porous crystalline materials in memory and neuromorphic computing systems to guide future research endeavors. Moreover, the utilization of porous crystalline materials in electronics necessitates a shift from powder synthesis to high-quality film preparation to ensure high device performance. This review highlights the strategies for preparing porous crystalline materials films and discusses their advancements in memory and neuromorphic electronics. It also provides a detailed comparative analysis and presents the existing challenges and future research directions, which can attract the experts from various fields (e.g., materials scientists, chemists, and engineers) with the aim of promoting the applications of porous crystalline materials in memory and neuromorphic computing systems.

Alternative splicing (AS) provides the primary mechanism for producing protein diversity. There is growing evidence that AS is involved in the development and progression of cancers. The rapid accumulation of high-throughput sequencing technologies and clinical data sets offers an opportunity to systematically profile the relationship between mRNA variants and clinical outcomes. However, there is a lack of systematic analysis of AS in prostate cancer: Download RNA-seq data and clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data portal. Evaluate RNA splicing patterns by SpliceSeq and calculate splicing percentage (PSI) values. Different expressions were identified as differently expressed AS events (DEAs) based on PSI values. Bioinformatics methods were used for further analysis of DEAs and their splicing networks. Kaplan-Meier, Cox proportional regression, and unsupervised cluster analysis were used to assess the correlation between DEAs and clinical characteristics. In total, 43 834 AS events were identified, of which 1628 AS events were differentially expressed. The parental genes of these DEAs played a significant role in the regulation of prostate cancer-related processes. In total, 226 DEAs events were found to be associated with disease-free survival. Four clusters of molecules with different survival modes were revealed by unsupervised cluster analysis of DEAs. AS events may be important determinants of prognosis and bio-modulation in prostate cancer. In this study, we established strong prognostic predictors, discovered a splicing network that may be a potential mechanism, and provided further validated therapeutic targets.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that the expression level of γ-synuclein (SNCG) is associated with progression of many different malignant tumors. In this study, we discuss and assess the prognostic ability of SNCG in bladder cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Medical records (2005-2013) were retrospectively reviewed for the population of interest. SNCG expression was identified immunohistochemically from bladder cancer tissues of 113 bladder cancer patients. The survival rate was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Cox proportional hazard regression model was used for analysis of predictors of bladder cancer. RESULTS: SNCG was overexpressed in bladder cancer tissues compared with the normal bladder tissues (p<0.0001). SNCG expression in bladder cancer tissue was strongly related to tumor stage. However, SNCG level was not a prognostic factor of survival. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate that SNCG is highly expressed in bladder cancer tissue and its expression is stage-specific, but it is not helpful for predicting outcome in bladder cancer patients.

Long-term inflammation and impaired angiogenesis are the main reasons for the difficulty of diabetic wound healing. What to do to effectively promote vascular endothelial cell response and immune cell reprogramming is the key to diabetic skin healing. However, contemporary therapies cannot simultaneously coordinate the promotion of vascular endothelial cells and macrophage polarization, which leads to an increased rate of disability in patients with chronic diabetes. Therefore, we developed a method of repair composed of self-assembling Prussian blue nanoenzymes, which achieved synergistic support for the immune microenvironment, and also contributed to macrophage polarization in the tissue regeneration cycle, and enhanced vascular endothelial cell activity. The template hydrothermal synthesis PB-Zr nanoplatform was prepared and locally applied to wounds to accelerate wound healing through the synergistic effect of reactive oxygen species (ROS). PB-Zr significantly normalized the wound microenvironment, thereby inhibiting ROS production and inflammatory response, which may be because it inhibited the M1 polarization of macrophages in a rat model of wound. PB-Zr treatment significantly promoted the activity of vascular endothelial cells, which better promoted the growth and regeneration of other tissues in the body. The results confirmed the disease microenvironment of PB-Zr-mediated wound therapy and indicated its application in other inflammation-related diseases.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the possible mechanism of acupuncture at "Zhibian" (BL 54) through "Shuidao" (ST 28) on premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) from the perspective of oxidative stress. METHODS: Sixty female SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group, a model group, a sham acupuncture group, a medication group, and an acupuncture group, 12 rats in each group. Except the blank group, the rats in the remaining groups were intraperitoneally injected with cyclophosphamide to establish the POI model. After the model was successfully established, the rats in the acupuncture group were treated with acupuncture at "Zhibian" (BL 54) through "Shuidao" (ST 28), with a depth of about 12 mm, and the needle was retained for 30 min; the acupuncture was given once a day, for a total of 4 weeks. The rats in the sham acupuncture group were treated with blunt-head needle to tap the skin surface of "Zhibian" (BL 54), without penetrating the skin, once a day for 4 weeks. The rats in the medication group were treated with estradiol valerate by gastric gavage for 4 weeks. After the intervention, the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the ovarian tissue was detected by fluorescence probe; the expression of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), forkhead box O1 (FoxO1), tumor suppressor gene protein 53 (p53) and p53 up-regulated modulator of apoptosis (Puma) mRNA and protein in ovarian tissue were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blot. RESULTS: Compared with the blank group, the level of ROS and the expression of JNK mRNA, p-JNK protein, FoxO1, p53, Puma mRNA and protein in the ovarian tissue in the model group were increased (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the level of ROS and the expression of p-JNK protein, FoxO1, p53, Puma mRNA and protein in the ovarian tissue in the sham acupuncture group were slightly reduced, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The level of ROS and the expression of JNK mRNA, p-JNK protein, FoxO1, p53, Puma mRNA and protein in the ovarian tissue in the acupuncture group and the medication group were reduced (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture at "Zhibian" (BL 54) through "Shuidao" (ST 28) could improve the level of oxidative stress, down-regulate the expression of apoptosis-related factors JNK, FoxO1, p53 and Puma induced by oxidative stress, and inhibit the premature failure of ovarian reserve function caused by apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells in POI rats.

Inflammation and oxidative damage are closely related to the development of osteoarthritis. Bardoxolone methyl (CDDO-Me), a semisynthetic oleanane triterpenoid, plays a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant role. The purpose of our research was to explore fundamental mechanisms of CDDO-Me in orthopaedics development. The results showed that CDDO-Me inhibited nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast formation and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways and inhibiting NF-κB pathway activation and excess ROS production. In vivo, CDDO-Me significantly attenuated articular cartilage proteoglycan loss and the number of TRAP-positive osteoclasts in a destabilized medial meniscus (DMM) mouse model of OA. Taken together, these data demonstrate that CDDO-Me inhibits osteoclastogenesis and ECM degradation, underscoring its potential therapeutic value in treating OA.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of penetrative needling of "Zhibian" (BL54) through "Shuidao" (ST28) on the expressions of death receptor pathway-related protein tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and its receptors, as death receptor 4 (DR4), death receptor 5 (DR5), decoy receptor 1 (DcR1) and decoy receptor 2 (DcR2) in premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) rats, so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of POI. METHODS: Forty female SD rats were randomly divided into blank control, model, penetrative needling and medication (estradiol valerate) groups, with 10 rats in each group. The POI model was established by intraperitoneal injection of cyclophosphamide (D1: 50 mg·kg-1·d-1, D2 to D15: 8 mg·kg-1·d-1, for a total of 15 d). After successful modeling, the rats in the penetrative needling group received penetrative needling of BL54 through ST28, with the needle retained for 30 min, once a day for a total of 4 weeks. Rats of the medication group received gavage of estradiol valerate (0.09 mg·kg-1·d-1) once daily for 4 weeks. After the intervention, the content of serum follicles of stimulation hormone (FSH),lateinizing hormone (LH),estradiol (E2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were assayed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and histopathological changes of ovarian tissue and the number of follicles were observed under light microscope after H.E. staining. The expression levels of TRAIL, DR4, DR5, DcR1, DcR2, and Fas-associated death domain (FADD) in ovarian tissues were detected using quantitative real-time PCR, and the immunoactivity of ovarian TRAIL, DR4 and DR5 detected using immunohistochemistry. The body weight and the damp weight of ovary were measured for calculating the ovarian coefficient. RESULTS: Compared with the blank control group, the E2 and VEGF contents, ovarian coefficient, and the number of the primary, secondary and sinus follicles were significantly decreased (P<0.01) in the model group, whereas FSH and LH contents, the atretic follicle number, TRAIL, DR4 and DR5 immunoactivity, and the expression levels of TRAIL, DR4, DR5 and FADD mRNAs considerably increased in the model group (P<0.01). In comparison with the model group, the decrease of the VEGF content, ovarian coefficient, and the number of the primary, secondary and sinus follicles, and the increase of the atretic follicle number, TRAIL, DR4 and DR5 immunoactivity, and expression levels of TRAIL, DR4, DR5 and FADD mRNAs were reversed in both penetrative needling and medication groups (P<0.01, P<0.05). The number of primary follicles was significantly more in the medication group than in the penetrative needling group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Penetrative needling of BL54 and ST28 can improve ovarian weight and promote follicular development in POI rats, which may be associated with its function in down-regulating the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins TRAIL, DR4, DR5 and FADD of the death receptor pathway to inhibit apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells.

Neuromorphic computing could enable the potential to break the inherent limitations of conventional von Neumann architectures, which has led to widespread research interest in developing novel neuromorphic memory devices, such as memristors and bioinspired artificial synaptic devices. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), as crystalline porous polymers, have tailorable skeletons and pores, providing unique platforms for the interplay with photons, excitons, electrons, holes, ions, spins, and molecules. Such features encourage the rising research interest in COF materials in neuromorphic electronics. To develop high-performance COF-based neuromorphic memory devices, it is necessary to comprehensively understand materials, devices, and applications. Therefore, this Perspective focuses on discussing the use of COF materials for neuromorphic memory devices in terms of molecular design, thin-film processing, and neuromorphic applications. Finally, we provide an outlook for future directions and potential applications of COF-based neuromorphic electronics.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of "Zhibian" (BL 54)-to-"Shuidao" (ST 28) needle insertion on the ovarian function in the rats with primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) and the potential effect mechanism based on the Fas/FADD/Caspase-8 of death receptor pathway. METHODS: Forty-eight female SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group, a model group, a medication group and an acupuncture group, with 12 rats in each group. Except in the blank group, the rats in the other groups were intraperitoneally injected with cyclophosphamide to establish the POI model. In the acupuncture group, after successful modeling, the intervention was given with "Zhibian" (BL 54)-to- "Shuidao" (ST 28) needle insertion, once daily, 30 min in each intervention; and the duration of intervention was 4 weeks. In the medication group, estradiol valerate tablets were administered intragastrically, 0.09 mgâ¢kg-1â¢d-1, for 4 weeks. The general situation and the estrous cycle of the rats were compared among groups. Using ELISA, the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and estradiol (E2) in the serum were detected. HE staining was adopted to observe the morphological changes of ovarian tissue of rats. The protein expression of Fas, FADD and Caspase-8 in ovarian tissue was detected with immunohistochemistry and Western blot. RESULTS: After modeling, except the rats of the blank group, the rats of the other groups had dry fur, lost hair, low spirits, reduced food intake, increased urination and loose stool. After intervention, the stool became regular gradually in the acupuncture group and the medication group. The percentage of estrous cycle disturbance was increased in the rats of the model group when compared with the blank group (P<0.01); in comparison with the model group, the percentages of estrous cycle disturbance were reduced in the acupuncture group and the medication group after intervention (P<0.01). When compared with the blank group, the body mass and E2 content in the serum were lower (P<0.01), the levels of FSH and LH in the serum and the protein expression levels of Fas, FADD and Caspase-8 were increased (P<0.01) in the model group. Compared with the model group, the body mass and E2 contents in the serum were higher (P<0.01), the levels of FSH and LH in the serum and the protein expression levels of Fas, FADD and Caspase-8 were reduced (P<0.01) in the acupuncture group and the medication group. CONCLUSION: "Zhibian" (BL 54)-to-"Shuidao" (ST 28) needle insertion can effectively improve the ovarian function of POI rats, and its effect mechanism may be related to regulating the serum sex hormone levels, reducing the expression of Fas, FADD and Caspase-8 in ovarian tissue and retarding apoptosis of ovarian cells.

Grading seeds based on grain size is an effective measure to improve population regularity degree and increase the yield of summer maize. Taking Denghai 605 as the experimental material, we set up a field experiment with treatments based on grain size: large seeds (L), medium-round seeds (MR), medium-flat seeds (MF), medium-round and medium-flat mixed seeds (MRF), and small seeds (S), with no-grading seeds as control (CK). We investigated seedling emergence rate, population regularity degree (including height, ear height and stem diameter), seedling sturdiness index, photosynthetic characteristics, dry matter accumulation and distribution characteristics, and yield. The results showed that the emergence rate followed an order of L>MR>MRF>MF>CK>S, with that of L treatment differed little from MR, MF and MRF treatments, but being significantly higher than S and CK treatments. Plant height and stem diameter population regularity degree of MRF treatment before seven-leaf stage was not different from those of L, MR, MF and S treatments, but significantly higher than those of CK. At the tasseling stage, all treatments had higher population regularity degree of plant height than other stages. Ear height population regularity degree of L, MR, MF, MRF, and S increased by 11.1%, 10.3%, 9.5%, 7.1%, and 6.4% compared with CK, respectively. The seedling sturdiness index of MRF treatment increased by 36.7% compared with S treatment, but was not significantly different from L treatment. The leaf area index of the L and MRF treatments was significantly higher than that of CK, and both had higher population photosynthetic properties. The population dry matter accumulation showed a pattern as L>MR>MRF>MF>CK>S. There was no significant difference among L, MR, and MRF treatments, but that in L being obviously higher than MF, CK, and S treatments. After seed grading, the number of harvested ears of the L and MRF treatments increased significantly, and the yield were shown as L>MR>MRF>MF>CK>S. There was no difference between the yield of MRF, MR and MF treatments. In conclusion, the performance of L treatment was improved but the number was small. Considering the grading cost and yield, the MRF treatment can save the seed amounts of sowing, realize mechanized sowing and precision sowing.

In order to explore the physiological mechanism of different yield of summer maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids with different growth duration, a field experiment was conducted to study the growth stage, leaf photosynthetic characteristics, dry matter accumulation (DMA), transport and distribution characteristics and yield of the early maturity hybrid Denghai 518 (DH518) and the mid-late maturity hybrid Denghai 605 (DH605) from 2017 to 2021. The results showed that the yield of DH605 was significantly higher than that of DH518. The growth period of DH518 was 7-10 days shorter and the days of the growth stage of the sowing-silking stage (R1) were 5-6 days shorter compared to that of DH605. The contribution to grain dry matter by leaf and stalk dry matter remobilization (DMRC) of DH518 was significantly higher than that of DH605. There was a significant negative correlation between pre-silking growth days and harvest index (HI). The 13C distribution to grains of DH518 was significantly higher than that of DH605, and the HI and the corresponding contribution of HI to yield was also higher than that of DH605. The light and temperature resource use efficiency from silking to physiological maturity stage of DH605 was significantly higher than that of DH518. The yield per GDD of DH605 increased by 7.25% than that of DH518. At post-silking, the duration of higher leaf area index (DLAI) (>56 days) and active photosynthesis duration (APD) (>50 days) of DH605 were longer compared with that of DH518, and the average plant growth rate was 7.15% higher than that of DH518, which significantly increased the DMA of DH605. Therefore, the significant reduction of DH518 yield compared with DH605 was not due to the shortening of the growth stage of sowing-R1, but the lower light and temperature resource use efficiency from silking to physiological maturity stage.

Background: Annexins family (ANXAs), as a Ca2+-dependent phospholipid-binding protein superfamily, participates in a wide variety of biological activities and has been reported to be dysregulated in numerous types of human cancers. Evidence from cell lines and human tissues indicates that ANAXs are involved in kidney clear renal cell carcinoma (KIRC) tumorigenesis. However, their prognostic value and expression pattern associated with KIRC remain to be elucidated. Methods: We visited public databases, including ONCOMINE, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA), Kaplan-Meier plotter, cBioPortal, and GeneMANIA, to conduct comprehensive bioinformatics analysis and tried to detect basic relationships between each Annexins family member and KIRC. Results: We found that the expression level of ANXA1/2/4/5/6/7/8/13 in clear renal cell carcinoma tissue was higher than that in the kidney tissue, while the expression level of ANXA3/9/11 in the former was lower than that in the latter. The expression level of ANXA7/8/13 is related to the stage of the tumour. Survival analysis using the Kaplan-Meier plotter database showed that a high transcription level of ANXA2/5/8/10 is related to a low overall survival rate (OS) in predicting KIRC patients. In contrast, high ANXA3/4/7/9/11/13 levels are associated with a high OS in these patients. Conclusions: Our study implies that ANXA4/8/13 are potential targets of precision therapy for patients with KIRC and that ANXA2/5/8/10 are new biomarkers for the prognosis of KIRC.

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is an important respiratory pig pathogen that causes substantial losses in the worldwide swine industry. Chronic or subclinical infection with no apparent clinical symptoms poses a challenge for preventing transmission between herds. Rapid diagnostics is important for the control of epidemic diseases. In this study, we formulated an A. pleuropneumoniae species-specific apxIVA-based CRISPR/Cas12a-assisted rapid detection platform (Card) that combines recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) of target DNA and subsequent Cas12a ssDNase activation. Card has a detection limit of 10 CFUs of A. pleuropneumoniae, and there is no cross-reactivity with other common swine pathogens. The detection process can be completed in 1 h, and there was 100% agreement between the conventional apxIVA-based PCR and Card in detecting A. pleuropneumoniae in lung samples. Microplate fluorescence readout enables high-throughput use in diagnostic laboratories, and naked eye and lateral flow test readouts enable use at the point of care. We conclude that Card is a versatile, rapid, accurate molecular diagnostic platform suitable for use in both laboratory and low-resource settings.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of wheat-grain moxibustion on behavior, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and cortisol in the serum, mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in the hippocampus in rats with hypothyroidism complicated with depression, and to explore the possible mechanism of wheat-grain moxibustion on improving depression in rats with hypothyroidism. METHODS: A total of 32 SPF SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group, a model group, a medication group and a wheat-grain moxibustion group, 8 rats in each group. Except for the blank group, the rats in the remaining groups were treated with intragastric administration of 0.1% propylthiouracil (PTU) suspension at 1 mL/100 g, once a day for 4 weeks to establish the rat model of hypothyroidism, and whether the rats were accompanied with depression-like behavior determined through behavioristics evaluation. The rats in the medication group were intervened with euthyrox at 0.9 mL/100 g, once a day, for 4 weeks; the rats in the wheat-grain moxibustion group were treated with wheat-grain moxibustion at "Dazhui" (GV 14), "Mingmen" (GV 4), "Shenshu" (BL 23) and "Pishu" (BL 20), 7 cones each acupoint, once a day, six times a week for 4 weeks. After the intervention, the depression status was observed by behavioristics test; the contents of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), total thyroxine (TT4), 5-HT and cortisol in the serum were detected by ELISA; the protein expressions of MR and GR in hippocampus were detected by Western blot; the expressions of MR mRNA and GR mRNA in the hippocampus were detected by real-time PCR. RESULTS: Before the intervention, compared with the blank group, the scores of open field test (OFT) were decreased and the immobility time of tail suspension test (TST) was prolonged (P<0.05); the serum TSH contents were increased and TT4 contents were decreased (P<0.01) in the other three groups. After the intervention, compared with the model group, the vertical score of OFT was increased and the immobility time of forced swimming test (FST) was prolonged in the medication group (P<0.05), while the scores of three items of OFT were increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), and the immobility time of FST and TST was shortened in the wheat-grain moxibustion group (P<0.01, P<0.05). Compared with the medication group, the immobility time of TST and FST in the wheat-grain moxibustion group was shorter (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the blank group, in the model group, the contents of serum TSH and cortisol were increased (P<0.01, P<0.001), while the contents of serum TT4 and 5-HT were decreased (P<0.01, P<0.001). Compared with the model group, the contents of serum TT4 and 5-HT were increased, while the contents of serum TSH and cortisol were decreased in the medication group and wheat-grain moxibustion group (P<0.01, P<0.05). Compared with the blank group, the protein and mRNA expression of MR, GR in the hippocampus in the model group was decreased (P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.001); compared with the model group, the protein and mRNA expression of MR in the hippocampus in the medication group were increased (P<0.05), and the protein expression of MR, GR and mRNA expression of MR in the hippocampus in the wheat-grain moxibustion group were increased (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the medication group, the expression of MR mRNA in the wheat-grain moxibustion group was increased (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Wheat-grain moxibustion could significantly improve thyroid function and depression in rats with hypothyroidism. Its mechanism may be related to up-regulating the protein and mRNA expression of MR and GR in the hippocampus, and then affecting the expression of serum cortisol and 5-HT.

Water content of summer maize hybrids grown in China is too high at harvesting stage, which limits the development of grain mechanical harvesting technology. Spraying the desiccant can regulate physiological process of crop grain filling and reduce water content at harvest. We explored the effects of spraying the desiccant on the dehydration process, grain moisture, and grain quality of summer maize hybrids differing in maturity. Spraying the desiccants reduced dry matter accumulation in different organs of maize, with strongest reduction of middle-late maturity hybrids. Dry matter transfer to the grains of the plants and the harvest index was improved, but with no changes of grain quality. The dehydration rate of grains was positively correlated with the rate of dehydration in diffe-rent organs. The dehydration rate of grains after spraying the desiccants was significantly positively correlated with the rate of dehydration of stems and sheaths. With no negative effects on yield, spraying the desiccant increased the total dehydration rate, shortened the time from flowering to physiological maturity, and increased the time from physiological maturity to harvest, which was beneficial to the further reduction of grain moisture in the later stage. The possibility of grain mechanical harvesting was increased. The economic benefits of spraying the desiccants on mechanical grain harvest of summer maize hybrids differing in maturity were not significantly different from those of ear mechanical harvesting. The economic benefits of middle-late maturity hybrids were higher than those of early maturity hybrids. Spraying desiccant may improve the possibility of grain mechanical harvesting.

Gamma-synuclein (SNCG) is secreted from tumor cells and elevated in the urine of bladder cancer (BCa) patients, however, the diagnostic and prognostic values of urine SNCG for BCa remain unknown. Here, we used enzyme immunoassay and western blotting to measure urine SNCG levels. Patients with BCa or other urological diseases and healthy controls were enrolled at four Chinese hospitals from April 2010 to November 2014. Diagnostic performance was evaluated by analyzing the area under receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs). The AUROC was 0.903 ± 0.019 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.867 - 0.940) for the test and 0.929 ± 0.015 (95% CI, 0.901 - 0.958) for the validation cohort. The optimal cutoff value yielded sensitivities of 68.4%, 62.4% and specificities of 97.4%, 97.8% for the test and validation cohort, respectively. Urine SNCG levels were decreased after tumor resection, but were higher in BCa patients with recurrence than those without (P = 0.001). The urine SNCG levels in patients with urological benign diseases were significantly lower than BCa patients (all P < 0.05) but higher than healthy controls (all P < 0.05). Hematuria did not interfere with the SNCG detection by spiking urine specimens with whole blood. Compared with a nuclear-matrix-protein-22 assay in an additional cohort excluding hematuria, SNCG showed a similar sensitivity and higher specificity. In summary, our results demonstrated that urine SNCG can discriminate BCa from urinary diseases, and is a useful prognosticator of postsurgical recurrence.

Postoperative spindle cell nodule (PSCN) of the bladder is a rare condition. It is a type of benign lesion frequently misdiagnosed as sarcomatoid carcinoma on the basis of similar cell morphology. The present report describes a tumor affecting a 71-year-old male who had undergone three transurethral resections. Pathological results suggested a diagnosis of sarcomatoid carcinoma, and therefore a radical cystectomy was performed. However, the tumor was later identified as a PSCN. In order to prevent such misdiagnosis, this study reviews relevant articles concerning postoperative spindle cell nodules of the bladder and compares PSCN and sarcomatoid carcinomas to identify specific characteristics of PSCN. Finally, the report emphasizes the importance of careful pathological examination in rare cases such as PSCN and sarcomatoid carcinoma.

Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a high-grade malignant neoplasm which exhibits morphological and/or immunohistochemical evidence of bidirectional epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. Sarcomatoid carcinoma occurring in the upper urinary tract is rare. The present study reports a case of primary sarcomatoid carcinoma of the renal pelvis. A 49-year-old female patient was admitted to Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital for experiencing two weeks of intermittent hematuria. A computed tomography scan revealed a mass of 2 cm in diameter in the left renal pelvis. A retroperitoneoscopic nephroureterectomy combined with a bladder cuff excision was performed, and the final pathological diagnosis was sarcomatoid carcinoma of the renal pelvis. The patient did not receive systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Regular follow-up was performed for 30 months, and there was no evidence of tumor local recurrence or distant metastasis.
