Evaluating the use of preparation guides in interteaching versus a quiz alternative.

Interteaching is a behavioral teaching method that has demonstrated efficacy in higher education. Of particular interest is the use of a preparation guide (a guided reading assignment), which is designed to promote engagement in the other areas of the interteaching process. The present study compared the use of a preparation guide completed before the start of class with that of a quiz administered at the start of the class. The quiz was hypothesized to serve as a functional alternative to the preparation guide. A total of 38 undergraduate students enrolled in an Introduction to Psychology course participated in this study. The primary dependent measure was student performance on tests following each condition. The analysis revealed no statistically significant difference between the conditions, F(1, 302) = 0.103, p = .748, though qualitative feedback revealed student preference for preparation guides. Future research is necessary to examine the effects of quizzing while addressing the limitations of this study.

Mapping the Landscape of the Digital Workflow of Esthetic Veneers from Design to Cementation: A Systematic Review.

The purpose of this systematic review was to map all the existing literature on digitally designed and fabricated esthetic veneers. We aimed to compare the accuracy of digitally designed preparation and cementation guides for esthetic indirect veneers with the conventional workflow. We evaluated studies comparing the accuracy and predictability of workflows between digitally fabricated indirect-esthetic veneers and conventional indirect veneers. Searches were performed in August 2023 across three databases, specifically Google Scholar, Cochrane, and PubMed, and were restricted to English-language publications. The search strategy was based on the PICO criteria. Reference lists of identified articles were manually checked to find further pertinent studies that were not discovered during the electronic search. The titles and abstracts were reviewed in the first stage, and then the full article texts were reviewed and cross-matched against the predetermined inclusion criteria. Following the search, 169 articles were identified: 41 from Google Scholar, 44 from Cochrane, and 71 from PubMed, with 13 added manually. Of these, 20 were chosen for a detailed quality assessment of the digital veneer workflow and the accuracy of digital preparations and cementation guides for laminate veneers. Based on our findings, the digitally fabricated laminate-veneer workflow demonstrated superior predictability and accuracy compared to the conventional workflow.

The minimum amount of tooth preparation that can be fully controlled is crucial in achieving long-term, stable, and effective aesthetic restoration, which is also a major difficulty in aesthetic restoration. The tooth preparation can be imple-mented efficiently and accurately through digital technology based on the fixed-deep hole guiding technology. Prior the actual tooth preparation, the technology first designs the virtual contour, layering, and virtual occlusion of the prosthesis on the computer. Then, virtual tooth preparation is carried out by cutting back according to the virtual prosthesis. Next, the virtual drilling operation plan is designed according to the shape of the virtual tooth preparation and the contour of the abutment tooth. Finally, the tooth preparation guide plate is designed and printed in 3D. It realizes the whole process of quantitative and precise guidance of dental preparation, visualizes the restoration space, reduces the clinical operation time, and guarantees the quality of dental preparation. It also promotes the improvement of the teaching quality of digital practical exercises.
