Computer vision (CV) shows increasing promise as an efficient, low-cost tool for video seizure detection and classification. Here, we provide an overview of the fundamental concepts needed to understand CV and summarize the structure and performance of various model architectures used in video seizure analysis. We conduct a systematic literature review of the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases from January 1, 2000 to September 15, 2023, to identify the strengths and limitations of CV seizure analysis methods and discuss the utility of these models when applied to different clinical seizure phenotypes. Reviews, nonhuman studies, and those with insufficient or poor quality data are excluded from the review. Of the 1942 records identified, 45 meet inclusion criteria and are analyzed. We conclude that the field has shown tremendous growth over the past 2 decades, leading to several model architectures with impressive accuracy and efficiency. The rapid and scalable detection offered by CV models holds the potential to reduce sudden unexpected death in epilepsy and help alleviate resource limitations in epilepsy monitoring units. However, a lack of standardized, thorough validation measures and concerns about patient privacy remain important obstacles for widespread acceptance and adoption. Investigation into the performance of models across varied datasets from clinical and nonclinical environments is an essential area for further research.

BACKGROUND: Phytochemical compounds can modify the rumen microbiome and improve rumen fermentation. This study evaluated the impact of supplementation with tannin and an herbal mixture containing ginger (Zingiber officinale), garlic (Allium sativum), Artemisia (Artemisia vulgaris), and turmeric (Curcuma longa) on the rumen fermentation and microbiota, and histology of rumen tissue of goats. Eighteen Shami male goats were divided into three groups (n = 6): non-supplemented animals fed the basal diet (C, control); animals fed basal diet and supplemented with condensed tannin (T); and animals fed basal diet and supplemented with herbal mixture (HM). Each animal received a basal diet composed of Alfalfa hay and a concentrate feed mixture. RESULTS: Group HM revealed higher (P < 0.05) rumen pH, total volatile fatty acids (VFA), acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butyric, isovaleric, and valeric. Principal Co-ordinate analysis (PCoA) showed that rumen microbial communities in the control group and supplemented groups were distinct. The supplementation increased (P < 0.05) the relative abundances of phylum Bacteroidota and Proteobacteria and declined (P < 0.05) Firmicutes and Fibrobacterota. Additionally, the dominant genus Prevotella and Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group were increased (P < 0.05) and the family Ruminococcaceae was declined (P < 0.05) due to the supplementation. The supplementation decreased (P < 0.05) the archaeal genus Methanobrevibacter and increased (P < 0.05) Candidatus Methanomethylophilus. Tannin supplementation in T group shortened the rumen papillae. CONCLUSIONS: The results revealed that the herbal mixture might be used to alter the rumen microbiota to improve rumen fermentation.

BACKGROUND: The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between sedation usage and extubation failure, and to control for the effects of hemodynamic, oximetric indices, clinical characteristics, ventilatory settings pre- and post-extubation, and echocardiographic (echo) findings in neonates with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) post-Norwood procedure. METHODS: Single-center, retrospective analysis of Norwood patients during their first extubation post-surgery from January 2015 to July 2021. Extubation failure was defined as reintubation within 48 h of extubation. Demographics, clinical characteristics, ventilatory settings, echo findings (right ventricular function, tricuspid regurgitation), and cumulative dose of sedation medications before extubation were compared between patients with successful or failed extubation. RESULTS: The analysis included 130 patients who underwent the Norwood procedure with 121 (93%) successful and 9 (7%) failed extubations. Univariate analyses showed that vocal cord anomaly (p = 0.05), lower end-tidal CO2 (p < 0.01), lower pulse-to-respiratory quotient (p = 0.02), and ketamine administration (p = 0.04) were associated with extubation failure. The use of opioids, benzodiazepines, dexmedetomidine, and ketamine are mutually correlated in this cohort. On multivariable analysis, the vocal cord anomaly (OR = 7.31, 95% CI 1.25-42.78, p = 0.027), pre-extubation end-tidal CO2 (OR = 0.80, 95% CI 0.65-0.97, p = 0.025), and higher cumulative dose of opioids (OR = 10.16, 95% CI 1.25-82.43, p = 0.030) were independently associated with extubation failure while also controlling for post-extubation respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP/HFNC vs NC), intubation length, and echo results. CONCLUSION: Higher cumulative opioid doses were associated with a greater incidence of extubation failure in infants post-Norwood procedure. Therefore, patients with higher cumulative doses of opioids should be more closely evaluated for extubation readiness in this population. Low end-tidal CO2 and low pulse-to-respiratory quotient were also associated with failed extubation. Consideration of the pulse-to-respiratory quotient in the extubation readiness assessment can be beneficial in the Norwood population.

Dural carotid-cavernous fistulas (DCF) typically drain into the superior ophthalmic vein. Predominant involvement of the inferior ophthalmic vein (IOV) is rare, with only 4 documented cases in the literature. Here, the authors describe a case of a 51-year-old man who presented with acute left-sided proptosis, dysmotility, and vision loss and was found to have an IOV-dominant type D dural carotid-cavernous fistulas. The fistula could not be embolized by transfemoral endovascular access or orbitotomy alone and was ultimately managed with combined orbitotomy and direct IOV puncture. All previous reports of IOV-dominant dural carotid-cavernous fistulas in the literature were similarly inaccessible via the transfemoral approach. This case highlights the challenges of IOV cutdown and proposes an alternative management strategy. When IOV cutdown is precluded by the fragile, collapsed, or deep nature of the vessel, conversion to percutaneous IOV puncture may offer a safe and effective approach and mitigate the risks of direct puncture alone.

The effects of in ovo lactoferrin (Lf) injection on some physiological parameters and immune response of posthatch chicks were investigated. Live embryonated Fayoumi chicken eggs (n = 600) were randomly allocated into four groups. The first group as a control was noninjected eggs, the second group was only injected with 0.1 mL of NaCl 0.75% solution, and the third and fourth groups were injected with 50 and 100 µL Lf dissolved in 0.1 mL saline solution respectively. The eggs were injected on Day 15 of incubation in the amnion. The results illustrated that the hatchability of eggs in two Lf groups was significantly higher than in the control, NaCl groups. The residual yolk in chicks injected with Lf (100 µL/egg) was significantly lower than the control group (p < 0.05). In ovo Lf injection improved lipid profile, liver function, antioxidant indices, blood haematology, serum immunoglobulins and jejunum histomorphometry compared to the control group (p < 0.05). In ovo injection of Lf decreased significantly (p < 0.001) of pathogenic bacteria in residual yolk such as Salmonella, Shigella and Coliform compared to the control group. In conclusion, in ovo Lf injection can improve the hatchability, lipid profile, immune response and antioxidant indices and decline pathogens in the residual yolk, thus boosting the health status of newly hatched Fayoumi chicks.

Intact protein mass spectrometry (MS) coupled with liquid chromatography was applied to characterize the pharmacokinetics and stability profiles of therapeutic proteins. However, limitations from chromatography, including throughput and carryover, result in challenges with handling large sample numbers. Here, we combined intact protein MS with multiple front-end separations, including affinity capture, SampleStream, and high-field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS), to perform high-throughput and specific mass measurements of a multivalent antibody with one antigen-binding fragment (Fab) fused to an immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) antibody. Generic affinity capture ensures the retention of both intact species 1Fab-IgG1 and the tentative degradation product IgG1. Subsequently, the analytes were directly loaded into SampleStream, where each injection occurs within ∼30 s. By separating ions prior to MS detection, FAIMS further offered improvement in signal-overnoise by ∼30% for denatured protein MS via employing compensation voltages that were optimized for different antibody species. When enhanced FAIMS transmission of 1Fab-IgG1 was employed, a qualified assay was established for spiked-in serum samples between 0.1 and 25 µg/mL, resulting in ∼10% accuracy bias and precision coefficient of variation. Selective FAIMS transmission of IgG1 as the degradation surrogate product enabled more sensitive detection of clipped species for intact 1Fab-IgG1 at 5 µg/mL in serum, generating an assay to measure 1Fab-IgG1 truncation between 2.5 and 50% with accuracy and precision below 20% bias and coefficient of variation. Our results revealed that the SampleStream-FAIMS-MS platform affords high throughput, selectivity, and sensitivity for characterizing therapeutic antibodies from complex biomatrices qualitatively and quantitatively.

Considering the global trend to confine the COVID-19 pandemic by applying various preventive health measures, preprocedural mouth rinsing has been proposed to mitigate the transmission risk of SARS-CoV-2 in dental clinics. The study aimed to investigate the effect of different mouth rinses on salivary viral load in COVID-19 patients. This study was a single-center, randomized, double-blind, six-parallel-group, placebo-controlled clinical trial that investigated the effect of four mouth rinses (1% povidone-iodine, 1.5% hydrogen peroxide, 0.075% cetylpyridinium chloride, and 80 ppm hypochlorous acid) on salivary SARS-CoV-2 viral load relative to the distilled water and no-rinse control groups. The viral load was measured by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) at baseline and 5, 30, and 60 min post rinsing. The viral load pattern within each mouth rinse group showed a reduction overtime; however, this reduction was only statistically significant in the hydrogen peroxide group. Further, a significant reduction in the viral load was observed between povidone-iodine, hydrogen peroxide, and cetylpyridinium chloride compared to the no-rinse group at 60 min, indicating their late antiviral potential. Interestingly, a similar statistically significant reduction was also observed in the distilled water control group compared to the no-rinse group at 60 min, proposing mechanical washing of the viral particles through the rinsing procedure. Therefore, results suggest using preprocedural mouth rinses, particularly hydrogen peroxide, as a risk-mitigation step before dental procedures, along with strict adherence to other infection control measures.

The present study evaluated the effects of forage sources on dry matter (DM) intake, digestibility, and fermentation parameters in camels vs. sheep. The study was arranged as a 2 × 3 factorial experiment in a completely randomized design by using two animal species (three ruminally cannulated female camels and three male sheep) and three forage sources. The forages were (1) alfalfa hay; 164 and 479 g/kg DM for crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), respectively, (2) berseem hay; 121 and 513 g/kg DM for CP and NDF, respectively, and (3) wheat straw (27.5 and 723 g/kg DM for CP and NDF, respectively). Higher DM intake [g/kg body weight (BW)] was noted in sheep compared to camel when alfalfa hay (p < 0.05) and berseem hay (p < 0.05) were fed but was similar between both species when they were fed wheat straw. Forage type rather than animal species had more effect on metabolic intake. Lower digestibility was noted in sheep with wheat straw (p < 0.05). Similar in situ degradability values for crude protein and DM were noted between camels and sheep. In situ degradability of NDF was higher (p < 0.05) in camel than sheep. Greater ruminal pH (p < 0.05) was noted in sheep vs. camels when berseem hay and wheat straw were fed. Lower ruminal passage rate (p < 0.05) was noted in camels and higher total mean retention time. It was concluded that sheep and camels had similar digestion capacities when fed berseem hay and alfalfa hay, however, camels are more efficient than sheep when fed wheat straw.

This study aimed to evaluate impacts of dietary probiotics (Bacillus subtilis PB6) and humate substances (HS) supplementation on histomorphometry of small intestine and immune organs, blood parameters of growing quail. A total of 216 unsexed quails (seven days old) were randomly distributed to six groups. The 1st group did not receive any supplements (control), 2nd group received B. subtilis (CloSTAT: 0.5 g/kg diet), 3rd and 4th groups received HS (4 and 8 g/kg diet, respectively), 5th and 6th groups received CloSTAT + 4g HS and CloSTAT + 8g HS, respectively. Results showed that the inclusion of B. subtilis alone in quail diets significantly improved histomorphometry indices of intestine and immune organs compared to the control. Dietary supplementation of HS alone led to deteriorating histomorphometry indices of intestinal segments and immune organs compared to the control. CloSTAT, HS or both improved lipid profile and antioxidant parameters. Serum mineral levels did not differ significantly among groups except for Ca levels. In conclusion, dietary probiotics supplementation enhanced histomorphometry of intestine and immune organs and improved serum Ca, lipid profile and antioxidant indices. Moreover, the addition of HS (4 or 8 g/kg diet) improved lipid profile and antioxidant indices, but led to undesirable results in intestinal development and immune organs.

Direct fed microbial may enhance the utilization of halophyte forages leading to improved animal growth and productivity. This study was conducted to evaluate Atriplex hay-based diet supplemented with yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae; SC) or bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Lactobacillus casei; BAC) on lamb growth performance, digestibility, rumen fermentation, and carcass characteristics. Fifteen Barki lambs (90 ± 7 days of age and 18.6 ± 0.41 kg SE body weight; BW) were randomly assigned to three treatments for 120 days as follows: Control (basal diet without supplementation), SC and BAC diets, the basal diet supplemented with SC or BAC at 2 g/head/day, respectively. All lambs had similar dry matter (DM) intake, while lambs fed SC or BAC dies had higher (P < 0.05) total gain and average daily gain than those fed the control diet. Supplementation of SC or BC increased (P < 0.05) the digestibility of DM, organic matter, and acid detergent fiber, tended to decrease (P < 0.05) the urine N excretion and enhanced the N balance compared to the control. Ruminal pH, acetate, total volatile fatty acids concentrations, and bacterial protein were increased (P < 0.05), while creatinine and urea concentrations were decreased (P < 0.05) by both additives. Compared to other diets, the BAC diet reduced (P < 0.05) triglycerides, total lipids, kidney fat, and eye muscle fat. In conclusion, both additives resulted in similar positive growth performance and feed utilization, while only the BAC additive had a beneficial advantage in reducing the fat content of the carcass.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the utility of high-frequency physiologic data during the extubation process and other clinical variables for describing the physiologic profile of extubation failure in neonates with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) post-Norwood procedure. This is a single-center, retrospective analysis. Extubation events were collected from January 2016 until July 2021. Extubation failure was defined as the need for re-intubation within 48 h of extubation. The data included streaming heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, arterial oxygen saturation, and cerebral/renal near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The most recent blood laboratory results before extubation were also included. These markers, demographics, clinical characteristics, and ventilatory settings were compared between successful and failed extubations. The analysis included 311 extubations. The extubation failure rate was 10%. According to univariable analyses, failed extubations were preceded by higher respiratory rates (p = 0.029), lower end-tidal CO2 (p = 0.009), lower pH (p = 0.043), lower serum bicarbonate (p = 0.030), and lower partial pressure of O2 (p = 0.022). In the first 10 min after extubation, the failed events were characterized by lower arterial (p = 0.028) and cerebral NIRS (p = 0.018) saturations. Failed events were associated with persistently lower values for cerebral NIRS 2 h post-extubation (p = 0.027). In multivariable analysis, vocal cord anomaly, cerebral NIRS at 10 min post-extubation, renal NIRS at pre-extubation and post-extubation, and end-tidal CO2 at pre-extubation remained as significant co-variables. Oximetric indices before, in the 10 min immediately after, and 2 h after extubation and vocal cords paralysis are associated with failed extubation events in patients with parallel circulation.

Quail bush [Atriplex lentiformis (Torr.) S. Wats] plants were used in removing 2, 4-dinitrophenol (DNP) from wastewater in a hydroponic experiment. The hydroponic system contained three doses of DNP, i.e., 0, 10, and 20 mg L-1. Quail bush plants were sprayed with 0.1 mM salicylic acid (SA) to study its role in resisting DNP toxicity. DNP significantly (p < 0.05) reduced plant growth. Exposure of A. lentiformis plants to 20 mg L-1 of DNP reduced the total chlorophyl and relative water content by 39 and 24%, respectively. SA improved the antioxidant defense in terms of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities. SA alleviated DNP toxicity by enhancing the production of osmoprotectants, e.g.,proline, phenols, and carbohydrates. SA enhanced the removal efficiency of DNP and the highest removal efficiency (96%) was recorded in the plants sprayed with SA and grown on 10 mg L-1 of DNP. A. lentiformis is a halophytic plant that has good physiological characteristics to resist 2, 4-dinitrophenol toxicity in wastewaters and is qualified to purify water from these harmful compounds. Exogenous application of 0.1 mM SA increased the defense system in A. lentiformis against 2, 4-dinitrophenol toxicity and enhanced the removal efficiency.


2, 4-dinitrophenol inhibited the synthesis of photosynthetic pigments.Salicylic acid protects the vital bio-compounds in plant cells.Atriplex plants are able to remove (96%) of 2, 4-dinitrophenol from the wastewater.Atriplex plants have a strong antioxidant defense enable them to survive in wastewater.

The role of the venous circulation in neurological diseases has been underestimated. In this review, we present an overview of the intracranial venous anatomy, venous disorders of the central nervous system, and options for endovascular management. We discuss the role the venous circulation plays in various neurological diseases including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) disorders (intracranial hypertension and intracranial hypotension), arteriovenous diseases, and pulsatile tinnitus. We also shed light on emergent cerebral venous interventions including transvenous brain-computer interface implantation, transvenous treatment of communicating hydrocephalus, and the endovascular treatment of CSF-venous disorders.

The objective of the study was to assess the effect of warm compresses in preserving perineal integrity in women who delivered a single baby vaginally with cephalic presentation. We searched PubMed, Scopus, and the ISI Web of Science databases. Two researchers worked independently and conducted the study's search, selection, and extraction. We calculated the pooled risk ratio (R.R.)- for our categorical outcomes- and mean difference (M.D.)-for our continuous outcomes- using random or fixed-effect meta-analysis according to heterogenicity status. I2 test was used to detect heterogenicity. Studies were assessed for methodological quality using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. Our study analyzed 13 controlled trials (n= 3947) to compare warm compresses versus not using it during vaginal delivery. The analysis revealed that warm compresses group had better outcomes regarding episiotomy, degree of perineal trauma (third and fourth degree), perineal trauma requiring suturing, and also in behavioral pain scales (severe muscle tense, being very restless, and constant grimacing) with the following R.R. and confidence intervals: (R.R.= 0.56, 95% C.I.[0.23, 1.37]), (R.R.= 0.69, 95% C.I.[0.54, 0.89], p= 0.004),( (R.R.= 0.37, 95% C.I.[0.18, 0.77], p= 0.004), and ( (R.R.= 0.42, 95% C.I.[0.23, 0.78], p= 0.006) respectively. We conclude that among primiparous women, warm compresses group showed better outcome in improving perineal comfort than a the good of women who did not receive warm compresses after delivery.

Free perforator flaps are considered to be the best option for this problem but require the complexity of microsurgery. So, pedicled perforator flaps have emerged as an alternative option. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Prospective study was conducted in 40 patients with traumatic soft tissue defects in the leg and foot. The free flaps included the anterolateral thigh flap (ALT) and medial sural artery perforator flap (MSAP). In pedicled perforator flaps group, 10 cases were designed as propeller flaps while the other 10 flaps were designed as perforator plus flaps. RESULTS: Free flaps were mainly used for large-sized defects; we had one case of partial flap loss and one case of complete flap necrosis.  MSAP flap was the first option for coverage of large-sized defects on foot and ankle as it is a thin and pliable flap, while ALT flap was used for coverage of larger defects on the leg. Pedicled perforator flaps were used mainly for small to medium-sized defects, especially in the lower third of the leg; we had three cases of flap loss in propeller flap design while we had no cases of flap loss in perforator plus flap. CONCLUSION: Perforator flaps have become a reasonable solution for soft tissue defects of the lower extremity. Careful assessment of the dimensions, location, patient comorbidities, availability of surrounding soft tissue and presence of adequate perforators are mandatory for proper perforator flap selection.

Bovine tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis var. bovis (M. bovis), is an important enzootic disease affecting mainly cattle, worldwide. Despite the implementation of national campaigns to eliminate the disease, bovine tuberculosis remains recalcitrant to eradication in several countries. Characterizing the host response to M. bovis infection is crucial for understanding the immunopathogenesis of the disease and for developing better control strategies. To profile the host responses to M. bovis infection, we analyzed the transcriptome of whole blood cells collected from experimentally infected calves with a virulent strain of M. bovis using RNA transcriptome sequencing (RNAseq). Comparative analysis of calf transcriptomes at early (8 weeks) versus late (20 weeks) aerosol infection with M. bovis revealed a divergent and unique profile for each stage of infection. Notably, at the early time point, transcriptional upregulation was observed among several of the top-ranking canonical pathways involved in T-cell chemotaxis. At the late time point, enrichment in the cell mediated cytotoxicity (e.g., Granzyme B) was the predominant host response. These results showed significant change in bovine transcriptional profiles and identified networks of chemokine receptors and monocyte chemoattractant protein (CCL) coregulated genes that underline the host-mycobacterial interactions during progression of bovine tuberculosis in cattle. Further analysis of the transcriptomic profiles identified potential biomarker targets for early and late phases of tuberculosis in cattle. Overall, the identified profiles better characterized identified novel immunomodulatory mechanisms and provided a list of targets for further development of potential diagnostics for tuberculosis in cattle.

BACKGROUND: In Egypt, calcareous soils represent a large part of desert soils suffering from a shortage of nutrients and organic matter, affecting production and biological diversity in agroecosystems. Organic wastes, negatively affect the environment, recycling it as a promising technology in different farming systems, and its impact on crop productivity and soil fauna is largely unknown. In this study, the effects of integrating poultry manure (PM) alone or combined with vinasse (V) at rates of 4.2 g kg- 1 and 6.3 g kg- 1 in pots, on improving soil fauna diversity, soil fertility, soil consistency and yield of barley (Hordeum aestivum L.) grown in a calcareous soil were investigated. RESULTS: The results showed that the addition of PM alone or combined with V at different rates led to a significant increase in the microbial biomass carbon (MBC), organic matter (OM), NPK soil availability and yield of barley. The addition of 6.3 g PM and 4.2 g V kg- 1 soil have the best results in OM with 65.0% compared to control, and V contributes more than 16% of them. Prostigmata and Collembola were the dominant groups and accounted for 43.3% and 50.0% in the PM1 and 50.0% and 20.0% in the PM2 of the total individuals, respectively. Shannon and Evenness indices increased significantly with the soil amended by PM alone or combined with V. Soil fauna plays a key role in soil consistency because of a significant relationship between soil fauna and soil OM, MBC and soil fertility index. The addition of 6.3 g PM and 4.2 g V kg- 1 soil gave the best results in grain yield by 76.90% compared to the control. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the interaction between PM and V can be used as a promising organic amendments to increase barley yield and improve efficiency of a recycled PM and V on soil fauna and soil fertility of calcareous soil.

BACKGROUND: To analyse the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 with acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) and identify factors predicting functional outcome. METHODS: Multicentre retrospective cohort study of COVID-19 patients with AIS who presented to 30 stroke centres in the USA and Canada between 14 March and 30 August 2020. The primary endpoint was poor functional outcome, defined as a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) of 5 or 6 at discharge. Secondary endpoints include favourable outcome (mRS ≤2) and mortality at discharge, ordinal mRS (shift analysis), symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage (sICH) and occurrence of in-hospital complications. RESULTS: A total of 216 COVID-19 patients with AIS were included. 68.1% (147/216) were older than 60 years, while 31.9% (69/216) were younger. Median [IQR] National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) at presentation was 12.5 (15.8), and 44.2% (87/197) presented with large vessel occlusion (LVO). Approximately 51.3% (98/191) of the patients had poor outcomes with an observed mortality rate of 39.1% (81/207). Age >60 years (aOR: 5.11, 95% CI 2.08 to 12.56, p<0.001), diabetes mellitus (aOR: 2.66, 95% CI 1.16 to 6.09, p=0.021), higher NIHSS at admission (aOR: 1.08, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.14, p=0.006), LVO (aOR: 2.45, 95% CI 1.04 to 5.78, p=0.042), and higher NLR level (aOR: 1.06, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.11, p=0.028) were significantly associated with poor functional outcome. CONCLUSION: There is relationship between COVID-19-associated AIS and severe disability or death. We identified several factors which predict worse outcomes, and these outcomes were more frequent compared to global averages. We found that elevated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, rather than D-Dimer, predicted both morbidity and mortality.

Begomovirus is the largest genus in the family Geminiviridae and constitutes more than 445 virus species. Begomoviruses are characterized by single-stranded circular genomes with monopartite or bipartite components and transmitted by whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). Begomoviruses cause severe diseases in many economically important crops throughout the world. Typical symptoms of a begomovirus infection including severe leaf curling, vein thickening, vein darkening and reduced leaf size were observed in papaya plants in the Dammam district of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia during the growing season in 2022. A total of 10 samples were collected, and total genomic DNA was isolated from naturally infected papaya tree samples and subjected to PCR amplification using universal diagnostic primers for begomoviruses and associated satellites. Three PCR-amplified genomic components of begomoviruses and betasatellite namely P61Begomo (645 bp), P62Begomo (341 bp) and P62Beta (563 bp) were sent for Sanger DNA sequencing to Macrogen Inc. These partial viral genome sequences were submitted to Genbank database and accession numbers ON206051, ON206052 and ON206050 were assigned to P61Begomo, P62Begomo and P62Beta respectively. Phylogenetic analysis and pairwise nucleotide sequence identity studies identified P61Begomo was identified as Tomato yellow leaf curl virus, P62Begomo as DNA A component of a bipartite begomovirus Watermelon chlorotic stunt virus and P62Beta as begomovirus associated betasatellite; Cotton leaf curl Gezira betasatellite. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a begomovirus complex infecting papaya (Carica papaya) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Fungi that invade plant inner tissues without inducing disease symptoms are known as fungal endophytes. They represent a promising and tremendous reservoir of natural products with valuable biological potentials for application in medicine, agriculture and industry. Among the numerous existing endophytic fungi, Aspergillus strains constitute one of the most prolific sources of secondary metabolites with diverse chemical classes and interesting biological activities. This review covers the literature of the year 2020, reporting the isolation of 202 compounds obtained from more than 10 different endophytic Aspergillus species associated with different host plants. Analysis and interpretation of the collected data revealed that chemical investigation of endophytes belonging to the genus Aspergillus may greatly contribute to the discovery of potential drug leads. The isolated metabolites were chemically various and exhibited diverse biological activities such as antibacterial, anti-cancer, anti-plasmodial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunosuppressive and antifungal activities. Moreover, adoption of advanced technology in molecular biology together with modern chemical tools is anticipated to improve the discovery of new biopharmaceuticals from this valuable microbial world in the future.
