RESUMO

In this paper, we propose and study a new probability mass function by creating a natural discrete analog to the continuous Lindley distribution as a mixture of geometric and negative binomial distributions. The new distribution has many interesting properties that make it superior to many other discrete distributions, particularly in analyzing over-dispersed count data. Several statistical properties of the introduced distribution have been established including moments and moment generating function, residual moments, characterization, entropy, estimation of the parameter by the maximum likelihood method. A bias reduction method is applied to the derived estimator; its existence and uniqueness are discussed. Applications of the goodness of fit of the proposed distribution have been examined and compared with other discrete distributions using three real data sets from biological sciences.

RESUMO

A two-parameter continuous distribution, namely, power-modified Lindley (PML), is proposed. Various structural properties of the new distribution, including moments, moment-generating function, conditional moments, mean deviations, mean residual lifetime, and mean past lifetime, are provided. The reliability of a system is discussed when the strength of the system and the stress imposed on it are independent. Maximum-likelihood estimation of the parameters and their estimated asymptotic standard errors are derived. Bayesian estimation methods of the parameters with independent gamma prior are discussed based on symmetric and asymmetric loss functions. We proposed using the MCMC technique with the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm to approximate the posteriors of the stress-strength parameters for Bayesian calculations. The confidence interval for likelihood and the Bayesian estimation method is obtained for the parameter of the model and stress-strength reliability. We prove empirically the importance and flexibility of the new distribution in modeling with real data applications.

RESUMO

The purpose of the nonparametric statistical test used in this study is to compare different treatment options by looking at failure behavior in recorded survival data. Patients' survival times are documented after using the proposed approach. The observed data's behavior was assumed to be based on used better than aged in the moment generating function order (UBAmgf) characteristic or a constant failure rate in this study (exponential scenario). Suppose that the survival data is UBAmgf, then the treatment or the machine or system in use produces a better or a higher expected total present value than an older machine governed by an exponential survival function; if the data is exponential, the suggested treatment strategy is ineffective (the recommended treatment approach has neither positive or negative effects on the patients). To guarantee that the suggested statistical test is used correctly, the efficiency and critical values are calculated and compared to those of other tests, and the technique is then applied to medical data.

RESUMO

We hope to assess the different processing methodologies or the effectiveness of the devices or systems applied in this nonparametric statistical test by observing the failure behavior of the recorded survival data. The proposed second-order approach of new better than used (NBU 2) will be employed, which requires that the test data behaves either like NBU 2 property or exponentially. If the survival data is NBU 2, the proposed treatment method is likely to be beneficial. If the data are exponential, on the other hand, the recommended treatment method has no positive or negative influence on patients, as shown in the application section. To establish the validity of the test, we calculated the power of the proposed test and efficiency on both complete and censored data, compared the results to those of existing tests, and then applied the test to a range of real-world data.

RESUMO

The modern trend in distribution theory is to propose hybrid generators and generalized families using existing algebraic generators along with some trigonometric functions to offer unique, more flexible, more efficient, and highly productive G-distributions to deal with new data sets emerging in different fields of applied research. This article aims to originate an odd sine generator of distributions and construct a new G-family called "The Odd Lomax Trigonometric Generalized Family of Distributions". The new densities, useful functions, and significant characteristics are thoroughly determined. Several specific models are also presented, along with graphical analysis and detailed description. A new distribution, "The Lomax cosecant Weibull" (LocscW), is studied in detail. The versatility, robustness, and competency of the LocscW model are confirmed by applications on hydrological and survival data sets. The skewness and kurtosis present in this model are explained using modern graphical methods, while the estimation and statistical inference are explored using many estimation approaches.

RESUMO

The estimation of the entropy of a random system or process is of interest in many scientific applications. The aim of this article is the analysis of the entropy of the famous Kumaraswamy distribution, an aspect which has not been the subject of particular attention previously as surprising as it may seem. With this in mind, six different entropy measures are considered and expressed analytically via the beta function. A numerical study is performed to discuss the behavior of these measures. Subsequently, we investigate their estimation through a semi-parametric approach combining the obtained expressions and the maximum likelihood estimation approach. Maximum likelihood estimates for the considered entropy measures are thus derived. The convergence properties of these estimates are proved through a simulated data, showing their numerical efficiency. Concrete applications to two real data sets are provided.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: In this paper, we propose a five-parameter lifetime model called the McDonald exponentiated gamma distribution to extend beta exponentiated gamma, Kumaraswamy exponentiated gamma and exponentiated gamma, among several other models. We provide a comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution. We derive the moment generating function and the rth moment. We discuss estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood and provide the information matrix. AMS SUBJECT CLASSIFICATION: Primary 62N05; secondary 90B25.
