RESUMO

Recurrence is a major problem after release of temporomandibular joint ankylosis. Early physiotherapy and choice of interpositional material are important in preventing recurrence. Currently, the most used technique is gap arthroplasty associated with coronoidectomy, temporalis muscle flap interposition and reconstruction of the condylar unit with a costochondral graft. Full-thickness skin graft interposition, using the technique described by Popescu & Vasiliu, can also be used. This retrospective review of 31 patients confirms the reliability of full-thickness skin graft interposition. Results were successful in 90% of the 20 patients with follow-up longer than one year.

RESUMO

A comparative clinical research has been made to prove if magnet forces can be superior to mechanical forces for tooth movement. Six dogs went through a distalazing movement of their lower premolars on one side with a magnet system and on the other side with a mechanical system producing similar forces. A histological analysis of the moved premolars has showed a more important rate of osteoclasts and a reduction of the hyalinisation area with the magnet system.

RESUMO

Early extractions of first permanent molars, done on twenty cases without any orthodontic treatment, have not shown, following the Student's analysis, any statistical difference relative to a pilot group as far as the angles. SN- ANS- PNS, SN-OP, SN-GoGn, FMA, Y-axis are concerned. On the other hand, it has been revealed a closure of the angle ANS- Xi- MP associated with an opening of the mandibular arch.

RESUMO

The goal of the treatment of patients with cleft lip and/or cleft palate was: obtain a normal appearance, a normal speech and a normal growth without severe pertubations of the quality of life. Millard technique was used to repair the cleft lip in neonatal period. Between 6 and 18 months, the palate cleft was closed by wardill-kilner technique. A gingivoperiostoplasty with osseous graft was performed between 8 and 12 years. The orthodontic treatment began at 7 years. Pharyngoplasty was necessary in several cases. Sequellae and rhinoplasty was performed at the end of the growth. The authors explained their choices.
