RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The increasing healthcare needs in the Netherlands lead to increasing healthcare costs and waiting lists and warrants sufficient (staff-)capacity. The current market-driven organization of care affects qualitative, accessible, and affordable care. Whether the Dutch mental healthcare system can adapt efficiently is questioned in this article. AIM: Gaining insight into the developments and bottlenecks that can contribute to the realization of appropriate care in mental health. METHOD: An overview of literature is given regarding developments and necessary adjustments in mental healthcare. RESULTS: Appropriate care is value-driven, focused on health (instead of the absence of illness), based on management of health of the client and his network, is accessible, affordable and is offered at the right time and place. The collaborative innovation of Mental Healthcare Centers, in which GGz Breburg (specialized mental health care), Indigo Brabant (general mental health care), and health insurance company, form a sustainable coalition which is presented as a solution for manageability of the mental healthcaresystem. This coalition aims to improve the public values of mental healthcare as a response to the required paradigm shift and future model of mental healthcare. CONCLUSION: As a regional network model, the Mental Healthcare Centers offer a desirable answer to the demand for an appropriate and future-proof mental healthcare. w.

RESUMO

The transverse momentum spectra of weak gauge bosons and their ratios probe the underlying dynamics and are crucial in testing our understanding of the standard model. They are an essential ingredient in precision measurements, such as the W boson mass extraction. To fully exploit the potential of the LHC data, we compute the second-order [next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO)] QCD corrections to the inclusive-p_{T}^{W} spectrum as well as to the ratios of spectra for W^{-}/W^{+} and Z/W. We find that the inclusion of NNLO QCD corrections considerably improves the theoretical description of the experimental CMS data and results in a substantial reduction of the residual scale uncertainties.

RESUMO

We present the calculation of dijet production, doubly differential in dijet mass m_{jj} and rapidity difference |y^{*}|, at leading color in all partonic channels at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD. We consider the long-standing problems associated with scale choice for dijet production at next-to-leading order (NLO) and investigate the impact of including the NNLO contribution. We find that the NNLO theory provides reliable predictions, even when using scale choices that display pathological behavior at NLO. We choose the dijet invariant mass as the theoretical scale on the grounds of perturbative convergence and residual scale variation and compare the predictions to the ATLAS 7 TeV 4.5 fb^{-1} data.

RESUMO

We compute the cross section and differential distributions for the production of a Z boson in association with a hadronic jet to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD, including the leptonic decay of the Z boson. We present numerical results for the transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of both the Z boson and the associated jet at the LHC. We find that the NNLO corrections increase the NLO predictions by approximately 1% and significantly reduce the scale variation uncertainty.

RESUMO

Storm water runoff is a major contributor to the pollution of receiving waters. Storm water characteristics may vary significantly between locations and events. Hence, for each given location, this necessitates a well-designed monitoring campaign prior to selection of an appropriate storm water management strategy. The challenge for the design of a monitoring campaign with a given budget is to balance detailed monitoring at a limited number of locations versus less detailed monitoring at a large number of locations. This paper proposes a methodology for the selection of monitoring locations for storm water quality monitoring, based on (pre-)screening, a quick scan monitoring campaign, and final selection of locations and design of the monitoring setup. The main advantage of the method is the ability to prevent the selection of monitoring locations that turn out to be inappropriate. In addition, in this study, the quick scan resulted in a first useful dataset on storm water quality and a strong indication of illicit connections at one of the monitoring locations.

RESUMO

We report the calculation of next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections in the purely gluonic channel to dijet production and related observables at hadron colliders. Our result represents the first next-to-next-to-leading order calculation of a massless jet observable at hadron colliders, and opens the path towards precision QCD phenomenology with the LHC.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Continuation of coumarin therapy is important to prevent thromboembolic events. Continuation of medication, unrelated to the reason for hospital admission, may be at risk due to the patient's psychiatric status and the involvement of several physicians in patient care. METHODS: We performed a retrospective follow-up study of users of orally administered anticoagulants who were admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Information on patient characteristics, anticoagulant use, and International Normalized Ratio (INR) measurements was collected. Discontinuation of anticoagulant care was defined as no anticoagulant dispensing during the first 7 days of hospitalization and/or no INR measurement during hospitalization. Relative risks (RR) of discontinuation, overall and stratified by patient characteristics, was estimated using Cox regression analysis. RESULTS: Of 111 patients, 24.3 % had their anticoagulant care discontinued. For 17.1 %, no anticoagulant was dispensed during the first week, and 13.5 % had no INR measurement during hospitalization. CONCLUSIONS: Admission to a psychiatric hospital leads to discontinuation of anticoagulant care in 24.3 % of patients, with highest risk of discontinuation in patients admitted to nonpsychogeriatric wards. More research is needed to evaluate the clinical impact of this finding.

RESUMO

We compute next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to neutral vector boson production in association with a charm jet at the LHC. This process is studied in the forward kinematics at s = 13  TeV, which may provide valuable constraints on the intrinsic charm component of the proton. A comparison is performed between fixed order and NLO predictions matched to a parton shower showing mutual compatibility within the respective uncertainties. NNLO corrections typically lead to a reduction of theoretical uncertainties by a factor of two and the perturbative convergence is further improved through the introduction of a theory-inspired constraint on the transverse momentum of the vector boson plus jet system. A comparison between these predictions with data will require an alignment of a flavour-tagging procedure in theory and experiment that is infrared and collinear safe.

RESUMO

Fast interpolation-grid frameworks facilitate an efficient and flexible evaluation of higher-order predictions for any choice of parton distribution functions or value of the strong coupling α s . They constitute an essential tool for the extraction of parton distribution functions and Standard Model parameters, as well as studies of the dependence of cross sections on the renormalisation and factorisation scales. The APPLfast project provides a generic interface between the parton-level Monte Carlo generator and both the APPLgrid and the fastNLO libraries for the grid interpolation. The extension of the project to include hadron-hadron collider processes at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD is presented, together with an application for jet production at the LHC.

RESUMO

Final states with a vector boson and a hadronic jet allow one to infer the Born-level kinematics of the underlying hard scattering process, thereby probing the partonic structure of the colliding protons. At forward rapidities, the parton collisions are highly asymmetric and resolve the parton distributions at very large or very small momentum fractions, where they are less well constrained by other processes. Using theory predictions accurate to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD for both W ± and Z production in association with a jet at large rapidities at the LHC, we perform a detailed phenomenological analysis of recent LHC measurements. The increased theory precision allows us to clearly identify specific kinematical regions where the description of the data is insufficient. By constructing ratios and asymmetries of these cross sections, we aim to identify possible origins of the deviations, and highlight the potential impact of the data on improved determinations of parton distributions.

RESUMO

High-energy jets recoiling against missing transverse energy (MET) are powerful probes of dark matter at the LHC. Searches based on large MET signatures require a precise control of the Z ( ν ν ¯ ) +  jet background in the signal region. This can be achieved by taking accurate data in control regions dominated by Z ( ℓ + ℓ - ) +  jet, W ( ℓ ν ) +  jet and γ +  jet production, and extrapolating to the Z ( ν ν ¯ ) +  jet background by means of precise theoretical predictions. In this context, recent advances in perturbative calculations open the door to significant sensitivity improvements in dark matter searches. In this spirit, we present a combination of state-of-the-art calculations for all relevant V +  jets processes, including throughout NNLO QCD corrections and NLO electroweak corrections supplemented by Sudakov logarithms at two loops. Predictions at parton level are provided together with detailed recommendations for their usage in experimental analyses based on the reweighting of Monte Carlo samples. Particular attention is devoted to the estimate of theoretical uncertainties in the framework of dark matter searches, where subtle aspects such as correlations across different V +  jet processes play a key role. The anticipated theoretical uncertainty in the Z ( ν ν ¯ ) +  jet background is at the few percent level up to the TeV range.

RESUMO

Experiments were designed to determine whether or not ketanserin (R 41 468) antagonizes the augmentation by 5-hydroxytryptamine of contractions evoked in isolated arteries by non-adrenergic vasoconstrictor substances. Rings of rabbit femoral arteries were studied under isometric conditions in organ chambers filled with Krebs-Henseleit solution (37 degrees C). Ketanserin, unlike methysergide and LSD, was devoid of agonistic properties. It competitively antagonized contractile responses to 5-hydroxytryptamine and, at higher concentrations, to histamine. 5-Hydroxytryptamine amplified the contractions evoked by threshold concentrations of histamine, angiotensin II and prostaglandin F2 alpha; in all three cases, the amplification was antagonized by comparable concentrations of ketanserin. These experiments indicate that the interaction of 5-hydroxytryptamine with S2-receptors of the vascular smooth muscle cells is essential to allow the expression of the monoamine-induced amplification of the response to other vasoconstrictor substances. The inhibition by ketanserin of the amplifying effect of 5-hydroxytryptamine on vascular responses may help explain the antihypertensive properties of the compound.

RESUMO

The F-wave latency of the deep peroneal nerve in function of leg length was determined in 66 normal persons and 25 diabetic patients with known polyneuropathy. The latencies were measured by stimulating the nerve at the ankle and recording the F-wave at the musculus extensor digitorum brevis using a needle electrode. The leg length was represented by the distance between the spina iliaca anterior superior and the lateral malleolus. The F-wave latencies obtained in diabetic patients were significantly higher than in controls (p less than 0.01). The method is suitable to detect polyneuropathy, especially in early cases where the conventional techniques (determination of the motor and/or sensory latencies and/or conduction velocities at the lower limbs) may still yield normal or borderline values. The upper limits of the normal values of the F-wave latencies in function of leg length is given by a non-linear curve, which can be represented by the equation: F-wave latency (msec) = 14.7 + 47.5 x (leg length in m)2. For practical purposes, the upper limit of the normal value for a given leg length can be readily determined from a latency-length curve.

RESUMO

We compute production rates for two, three, four, and five jets in electron-positron annihilation at the third order in the QCD coupling constant. At this order, three-jet production is described to next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbation theory while the two-jet rate is obtained at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. Our results yield an improved perturbative description of the dependence of jet multiplicity on the jet resolution parameter y{cut}, particularly at small values of y{cut}.

RESUMO

We compute the next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) QCD corrections to the thrust distribution in electron-positron annihilation. The corrections turn out to be sizable, enhancing the previously known next-to-leading-order prediction by about 15%. Inclusion of the NNLO corrections significantly reduces the theoretical renormalization scale uncertainty on the prediction of the thrust distribution.

RESUMO

Photon radiation at large transverse momenta at colliders is a detailed probe of hard interaction dynamics. The isolated photon production cross section in deep inelastic scattering was measured recently by the ZEUS experiment, and found to be considerably larger than theoretical predictions obtained with widely used event generators. To investigate this discrepancy, we perform a dedicated parton-level calculation of this observable, including contributions from fragmentation and large-angle radiation. Our results are in good agreement with all aspects of the experimental measurement.

RESUMO

45 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome could be followed after an initial conservative treatment (local injection with Depomedrol 40 mg) either up to a surgical intervention (15 patients) or up to 14 to 48 months after the first injection (mean 23 months). Pregnant patients were excluded, as well as the patients with a distal motor latency (DML) greater than or equal to 7 msec (immediate surgical intervention). The age and sex distribution corresponds with the data reported in the literature: 7 males (15%) versus 38 females (85%), including 7 between 20 and 39 years (16%), 24 between 40 en 59 years (53%) and 14 between 60 and 80 years (31%). The side of the complaints also corresponds with the literature data: bilateral 16 (36%), right hand 23 (51%), left hand 6 (13%). In the 16 patients with a DML greater than 5,5 msec (normal value up to 4.3 msec) a rapid recurrence of the complaints after the injections necessitated a surgical intervention in 12 cases. In the 29 patients with a DML less than or equal to 5.5 msec who had been operated, the improvement of the complaints after the first injection lasted 2 months at most in 8 cases, as opposed to an average of 12.5 months (0 to 48 months) for the population as a whole.

RESUMO

The files of 64 patients (70 tennis elbows) treated in our department because of tennis elbow complaints, were reviewed. The results showed injection with a corticosteroid preparation to be effective in alleviating the pain in the short term (91% improvement within 1 week), but the incidence of recurrence of symptoms to be high (51%) after an average period of 3 months). Physical therapy appeared to be less effective (47% improvement after an average of 6 weeks or 20 sessions), but recurrence of symptoms was far less frequent (5%).
