RESUMO

Immune cells and epithelium form sophisticated barrier systems in symbiotic relationships with microbiota. Evidence suggests that immune cells can sense microbes through intact barriers, but regulation of microbial commensalism remain largely unexplored. Here, we uncovered spatial compartmentalization of skin-resident innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) and modulation of sebaceous glands by a subset of RORγt+ ILCs residing within hair follicles in close proximity to sebaceous glands. Their persistence in skin required IL-7 and thymic stromal lymphopoietin, and localization was dependent on the chemokine receptor CCR6. ILC subsets expressed TNF receptor ligands, which limited sebocyte growth by repressing Notch signaling pathway. Consequently, loss of ILCs resulted in sebaceous hyperplasia with increased production of antimicrobial lipids and restricted commensalism of Gram-positive bacterial communities. Thus, epithelia-derived signals maintain skin-resident ILCs that regulate microbial commensalism through sebaceous gland-mediated tuning of the barrier surface, highlighting an immune-epithelia circuitry that facilitates host-microbe symbiosis.

The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a prime target for studying black hole accretion and jet formation1,2. Event Horizon Telescope observations of M87 in 2017, at a wavelength of 1.3 mm, revealed a ring-like structure, which was interpreted as gravitationally lensed emission around a central black hole3. Here we report images of M87 obtained in 2018, at a wavelength of 3.5 mm, showing that the compact radio core is spatially resolved. High-resolution imaging shows a ring-like structure of [Formula: see text] Schwarzschild radii in diameter, approximately 50% larger than that seen at 1.3 mm. The outer edge at 3.5 mm is also larger than that at 1.3 mm. This larger and thicker ring indicates a substantial contribution from the accretion flow with absorption effects, in addition to the gravitationally lensed ring-like emission. The images show that the edge-brightened jet connects to the accretion flow of the black hole. Close to the black hole, the emission profile of the jet-launching region is wider than the expected profile of a black-hole-driven jet, suggesting the possible presence of a wind associated with the accretion flow.

The nearby radio galaxy M87 offers a unique opportunity to explore the connections between the central supermassive black hole and relativistic jets. Previous studies of the inner region of M87 revealed a wide opening angle for the jet originating near the black hole1-4. The Event Horizon Telescope resolved the central radio source and found an asymmetric ring structure consistent with expectations from general relativity5. With a baseline of 17 years of observations, there was a shift in the jet's transverse position, possibly arising from an 8- to 10-year quasi-periodicity3. However, the origin of this sideways shift remains unclear. Here we report an analysis of radio observations over 22 years that suggests a period of about 11 years for the variation in the position angle of the jet. We infer that we are seeing a spinning black hole that induces the Lense-Thirring precession of a misaligned accretion disk. Similar jet precession may commonly occur in other active galactic nuclei but has been challenging to detect owing to the small magnitude and long period of the variation.

A metabolic imbalance between lipid synthesis and degradation can lead to hepatic lipid accumulation, a characteristic of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Here, we report that high-fat-diet-induced sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)-1c, a key transcription factor that regulates lipid biosynthesis, impairs autophagic lipid catabolism via altered H2S signaling. SREBP-1c reduced cystathionine gamma-lyase (CSE) via miR-216a, which in turn decreased hepatic H2S levels and sulfhydration-dependent activation of Unc-51-like autophagy-activating kinase 1 (ULK1). Furthermore, Cys951Ser mutation of ULK1 decreased autolysosome formation and promoted hepatic lipid accumulation in mice, suggesting that the loss of ULK1 sulfhydration was directly associated with the pathogenesis of NAFLD. Moreover, silencing of CSE in SREBP-1c knockout mice increased liver triglycerides, confirming the connection between CSE, autophagy, and SREBP-1c. Overall, our results uncover a 2-fold mechanism for SREBP-1c-driven hepatic lipid accumulation through reciprocal activation and inhibition of hepatic lipid biosynthesis and degradation, respectively.

Airspace or aerenchyma is crucial for plant development and acclimation to stresses such as hypoxia, drought, and nutritional deficiency. Although ethylene-mediated signaling cascades are known to regulate aerenchyma formation in stems and roots under hypoxic conditions, the precise mechanisms remain unclear. Moreover, the cellular dynamics underlying airspace formation in shoots are poorly understood. We investigated the stage-dependent structural dynamics of shoot aerenchyma in greater duckweed (Spirodela polyrhiza), a fast-growing aquatic herb with well-developed aerenchyma in its floating fronds. Using X-ray micro-computed tomography and histological analysis, we showed that the spatial framework of aerenchyma is established before frond volume increases, driven by cell division and expansion. The substomatal cavity connecting aerenchyma to stomata formed via programmed cell death (PCD) and was closely associated with guard cell development. Additionally, transcriptome analysis and pharmacological studies revealed that the organization of aerenchyma in common duckweed is determined by the interplay between PCD and proliferation. This balance is governed by spatiotemporal regulation of phytohormone signaling involving ethylene, abscisic acid, and salicylic acid. Overall, our study reveals the structural dynamics and phytohormonal regulation underlying aerenchyma development in duckweed, improving our understanding of how plants establish distinct architectural arrangements. These insights hold the potential for wide-ranging application, not only in comprehending aerenchyma formation across various plant species but also in understanding how airspaces are formed within the leaves of terrestrial plants.

Mutations in the Microrchidia CW-type zinc finger 2 (MORC2) GHKL ATPase module cause a broad range of neuropathies, such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2Z; however, the aetiology and therapeutic strategy are not fully understood. Previously, we reported that the Morc2a p.S87L mouse model exhibited neuropathy and muscular dysfunction through DNA damage accumulation. In the present study, we analysed the gene expression of Morc2a p.S87L mice and designated the primary causing factor. We investigated the pathological pathway using Morc2a p.S87L mouse embryonic fibroblasts and human fibroblasts harbouring MORC2 p.R252W. We subsequently assessed the therapeutic effect of gene therapy administered to Morc2a p.S87L mice. This study revealed that Morc2a p.S87L causes a protein synthesis defect, resulting in the loss of function of Morc2a and high cellular apoptosis induced by high hydroxyl radical levels. We considered the Morc2a GHKL ATPase domain as a therapeutic target because it simultaneously complements hydroxyl radical scavenging and ATPase activity. We used the adeno-associated virus (AAV)-PHP.eB serotype, which has a high CNS transduction efficiency, to express Morc2a or Morc2a GHKL ATPase domain protein in vivo. Notably, AAV gene therapy ameliorated neuropathy and muscular dysfunction with a single treatment. Loss-of-function characteristics due to protein synthesis defects in Morc2a p.S87L were also noted in human MORC2 p.S87L or p.R252W variants, indicating the correlation between mouse and human pathogenesis. In summary, CMT2Z is known as an incurable genetic disorder, but the present study demonstrated its mechanisms and treatments based on established animal models. This study demonstrates that the Morc2a p.S87L variant causes hydroxyl radical-mediated neuropathy, which can be rescued through AAV-based gene therapy.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 has stimulated the rapid development of new biological therapeutics to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection; however, this remains a challenging task. In a previous study using structural analysis, we revealed that human cyclophilin A inhibits the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into host cells by interfering with the interaction of the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein with angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 on the host cell surface, highlighting its potential for antiviral therapy. For a comprehensive experimental validation, in this study, we verified the antiviral effects of human cyclophilin A against SARS-CoV-2, including its variants, using in vitro assays and experiments on an in vivo mouse model. Human cyclophilin A demonstrated a highly effective antiviral effect, with an 85% survival rate upon SARS-CoV-2 infection. It also reduced viral titers, inflammation in the lungs and brain, and cytokine release in the serum, suggesting a controlled immune response and potentially faster recovery. Overall, our study provides insights into the potential of human cyclophilin A as a therapeutic agent against SARS-CoV-2, which should guide future clinical trials that might provide an additional therapeutic option for patients.

Targeted protein degradation (TPD) has been established as a viable alternative to attenuate the function of a specific protein of interest in both biological and clinical contexts. The unique TPD mode-of-action has allowed previously undruggable proteins to become feasible targets, expanding the landscape of "druggable" properties and "privileged" target proteins. As TPD continues to evolve, a range of innovative strategies, which do not depend on recruiting E3 ubiquitin ligases as in proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs), have emerged. Here, we present an overview of direct lysosome- and proteasome-engaging modalities and discuss their perspectives, advantages, and limitations. We outline the chemical composition, biochemical activity, and pharmaceutical characteristics of each degrader. These alternative TPD approaches not only complement the first generation of PROTACs for intracellular protein degradation but also offer unique strategies for targeting pathologic proteins located on the cell membrane and in the extracellular space.

This report summarizes risk assessment interviews and follow-up with health care personnel (HCP) after exposure to patients with mpox disease during 17 May to 8 July 2022. HCP-case interactions were assessed using a standard questionnaire to categorize the risk associated with patient encounters. We assessed 150 interactions among 142 HCP and 30 cases. Four (2.7%) interactions were defined as high risk, 5 (3.3%) intermediate, 107 (71.3%) low, and 31 (20.7%) no risk. High and intermediate exposures were offered postexposure prophylaxis; 4 accepted. No documented mpox transmission after exposure was identified. These findings suggest transmission risk in health care settings during routine patient care is low.

RESUMO

Drug-resistant shigellosis is increasing, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM). During July-October 2022, an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing Shigella sonnei cluster of 9 patients was identified in Chicago, of whom 8 were MSM and 6 were festival attendees. The cluster also included 4 domestic travelers to Chicago. Sexual health care for MSM should include shigellosis diagnosis and prevention.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) can extend survival and offers the potential for cure in some patients with oligometastatic disease (OMD). However, limited evidence exists regarding its use in oligometastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We aimed to prospectively investigate the efficacy and safety of SABR in patients with oligometastatic HCC. METHODS: We enrolled patients with controlled primary HCC and one to five metastatic lesions amenable to SABR. The primary endpoint was treatment efficacy defined as overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoints included time to local progression, objective response rate, disease control rate, toxicities, and quality of life (QOL), assessed using the EORTC QLQ-C30 before, and 0, 1, and 3 months after SABR. RESULTS: Overall, 40 consecutive patients received SABR on 62 lesions between 2021 and 2022. The most common locations for OMD were the lungs (48.4%), lymph nodes (22.6%), and bone (17.7%). After a median follow-up of 15.5 months, the 2-year OS was 80%. Median PFS was 5.3 months, with 1- and 2-year PFS rates of 21.2% and 0%, respectively. A shorter time to OMD from the controlled primary independently correlated with PFS (p = 0.039, hazard ratio 2.127) alongside age, Child-Pugh class, and alpha-fetoprotein (p = 0.002, 0.004, 0.019, respectively). The 2-year time to local progression, objective response rate, and disease control rate were 91.1%, 75.8%, and 98.4%, respectively. Overall, 10% of patients experienced acute toxicity, and 7.5% experienced late toxicity, with no grade 3+ toxicity. All QOL scores remained stable, whereas the patients without systemic treatments had improved insomnia and social functioning scores. CONCLUSIONS: SABR is an effective and feasible option for oligometastatic HCC that leads to excellent local tumor control and improves survival without adversely affecting QOL. IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is a non-invasive treatment approach capable of efficiently ablating the target lesion; however, neither the oligometastatic disease concept nor the potential benefits of SABR have been well-defined in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). According to this study, SABR is an effective and safe treatment option for oligometastatic HCC, yielding excellent local tumor control and survival improvement without worsening patients' quality of life, regardless of tumor sites. We also demonstrated that patients with a later presentation of OMD from the controlled primary and lower alpha-fetoprotein levels achieved better survival outcomes. This is the first prospective study of SABR in oligometastatic HCC, providing insights for the development of novel strategies to improve oncologic outcomes. CLINICAL TRIAL NUMBER: NCT05173610.

Developing a robust artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) system with a self-powered triboelectric sensor for harsh environment is challenging because environmental fluctuations are reflected in triboelectric signals. This study presents an environmentally robust triboelectric tire monitoring system with deep learning to capture driving information in the triboelectric signals generated from tire-road friction. The optimization of the process and structure of a laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrode layer in the triboelectric tire is conducted, enabling the tire to detect universal driving information for vehicles/robotic mobility, including rotation speeds of 200-2000 rpm and contact fractions of line. Employing a hybrid model combining short-term Fourier transform with a convolution neural network-long short-term memory, the LIG-based triboelectric tire monitoring (LTTM) system decouples the driving information, such as traffic lines and road states, from varied environmental conditions of humidity (10%-90%) and temperatures (50-70 °C). The real-time line and road state recognition of the LTTM system is confirmed on a mobile platform across diverse environmental conditions, including fog, dampness, intense sunlight, and heat shimmer. This work provides an environmentally robust monitoring AIoT system by introducing a self-powered triboelectric sensor and hybrid deep learning for smart mobility.

Defect engineering of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is a promising strategy for tailoring the interfacial characteristics between MOFs and polymers, aiming to create high-performance mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). This study introduces a new approach using dual defective alkylamine (AA)-modulated zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (DAZIF-8), to develop high-flux MMMs. Tributylamine (TBA) and triethylamine (TEA) monodentate ligands coordinate with zinc ions in varying compositions. A mixture of Zn(CH3COO)2·2H2O:2-methylimidazole (Mim):AA in a 1:1.75:5 molar ratio facilitates high-yield coordination between Zn and multiple organic ligands, including Zn-Mim, Zn-TEA, and Zn-TBA (>80%). Remarkably, DAZIF-8 containing 3 mol% TBA and 2 mol% TEA exhibits exceptional characteristics, such as a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 1745 m2 g-1 and enhanced framework rigidity. Furthermore, dual Zn-AA coordination sites on the framework's outer surface enhance compatibility with the polyimide (PI) matrix through electron donor-acceptor interactions, enabling the fabrication of high-loading MMMs with excellent mechanical durability. Importantly, the PI/DAZIF-8 (60/40 w/w) MMM demonstrates an unprecedented 759% enhancement in ethylene (C2H4) permeability (281 Barrer) with a moderate ethylene/ethane (C2H4/C2H6) selectivity of 2.95 compared to the PI, surpassing the polymeric upper limit for C2H4/C2H6 separation.

The net CO2 assimilation (A) response to intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) is a fundamental measurement in photosynthesis and plant physiology research. The conventional A/Ci protocols rely on steady-state measurements and take 15-40 min per measurement, limiting data resolution or biological replication. Additionally, there are several CO2 protocols employed across the literature, without clear consensus as to the optimal protocol or systematic biases in their estimations. We compared the non-steady-state Dynamic Assimilation Technique (DAT) protocol and the three most used CO2 protocols in steady-state measurements, and tested whether different CO2 protocols lead to systematic differences in estimations of the biochemical limitations to photosynthesis. The DAT protocol reduced the measurement time by almost half without compromising estimation accuracy or precision. The monotonic protocol was the fastest steady-state method. Estimations of biochemical limitations to photosynthesis were very consistent across all CO2 protocols, with slight differences in Rubisco carboxylation limitation. The A/Ci curves were not affected by the direction of the change of CO2 concentration but rather the time spent under triose phosphate utilization (TPU)-limited conditions. Our results suggest that the maximum rate of Rubisco carboxylation (Vcmax), linear electron flow for NADPH supply (J), and TPU measured using different protocols within the literature are comparable, or at least not systematically different based on the measurement protocol used.

Carfilzomib, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone (KRd) combination therapy improves the survival of patients with relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). Nonetheless, evidence on the use of KRd in Asian populations remains scarce. Accordingly, this study aimed at investigating this regimen's efficacy in a large group of patients. This retrospective study included patients with RRMM who were treated with KRd at 21 centers between February 2018 and October 2020. Overall, 364 patients were included (median age: 63 years). The overall response rate was 90% in responseevaluable patients, including 69% who achieved a very good partial response or deeper responses. With a median follow-up duration of 34.8 months, the median progression-free survival (PFS) was 23.4 months and overall survival (OS) was 59.5 months. Among adverse factors affecting PFS, highrisk cytogenetics, extramedullary disease, and doubling of monoclonal protein within 2 to 3 months prior to start of KRd treatment significantly decreased PFS and overall survival (OS) in multivariate analyses. Patients who underwent post-KRd stem cell transplantation (i.e.delayed transplant) showed prolonged PFS and OS. Grade 3 or higher adverse events (AEs) were observed in 56% of the patients, and non-fatal or fatal AE's that resulted in discontinuation of KRd were reported in 7% and 2% of patients, respectively. Cardiovascular toxicity was comparable to that reported in the ASPIRE study. In summary, KRd was effective in a large real-world cohort of patients with RRMM with long-term follow-up. These findings may further inform treatment choices in the treatment of patients with RRMM.

INTRODUCTION: Altered lipid metabolism has been reported to be associated with prognosis in multiple cancers. This study aimed to investigate the association of polymorphisms in lipid metabolism pathway genes with survival outcomes in patients with surgically resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS: In total, 744 patients with surgically resected NSCLC (380 in the discovery cohort and 364 in the validation cohort) were included in this study. The association between 176 polymorphisms of lipid metabolism pathway genes and the clinical outcomes of NSCLC patients was analyzed. RESULTS: Among the polymorphisms investigated, ACADSB rs10902859G>A was associated with significantly better overall survival (OS) in the discovery, validation, and combined cohorts. ACADSB rs10902859G>A was located in the repressed region and had strong linkage disequilibrium (D' = 1.00 and r2 = 0.94), with rs12220683G>C located in the H3K4me3 peak region, which indicates the presence of active promoters. ACADSB rs12220683G>C was also associated with better OS in the discovery, validation, and combined cohorts (in a dominant model; adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 0.53, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.30-0.94, p = 0.03; aHR = 0.37, 95% CI = 0.15-0.89, p = 0.03; and aHR = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.29-0.75, p = 0.002, respectively). In vitro luciferase assay demonstrated that the promoter activity of ACADSB was significantly increased in the rs12220683 variant C allele compared with that in the wild G allele (p = 3 × 10-5). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that ACADSB rs12220683G>C increases promoter activity and that increased ACADSB expression may result in better OS in patients with surgically resected NSCLC.

Measles, a highly contagious respiratory virus with the potential to cause severe complications, hospitalization, and death, was declared eliminated from the United States in 2000; however, with ongoing global transmission, infections in the United States still occur. On March 7, 2024, the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) confirmed a case of measles in a male aged 1 year residing in a temporary shelter for migrants in Chicago. Given the congregate nature of the setting, high transmissibility of measles, and low measles vaccination coverage among shelter residents, measles virus had the potential to spread rapidly among approximately 2,100 presumed exposed shelter residents. CDPH immediately instituted outbreak investigation and response activities in collaboration with state and local health departments, health care facilities, city agencies, and shelters. On March 8, CDPH implemented active case-finding and coordinated a mass vaccination campaign at the affected shelter (shelter A), including vaccinating 882 residents and verifying previous vaccination for 784 residents over 3 days. These activities resulted in 93% measles vaccination coverage (defined as receipt of ≥1 recorded measles vaccine dose) by March 11. By May 13, a total of 57 confirmed measles cases associated with residing in or having contact with persons from shelter A had been reported. Most cases (41; 72%) were among persons who did not have documentation of measles vaccination and were considered unvaccinated. In addition, 16 cases of measles occurred among persons who had received ≥1 measles vaccine dose ≥21 days before first known exposure. This outbreak underscores the need to ensure high vaccination coverage among communities residing in congregate settings.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety negatively affect asthma-related quality of life (QoL). Yet, little is known regarding mood and asthma-related factors that best uniquely explain asthma-related QoL in children. OBJECTIVE: This cross-sectional study evaluated the unique variance explained by caregiver and child depressive and anxiety symptom severity in child asthma-related QoL, apart from that explained by demographics and asthma control. METHODS: Children aged 7 to 17 years with asthma (n = 205) and their caregivers with major depressive disorder were included. A 3-stage hierarchical linear regression analysis was conducted with the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire total scores considered as the outcome. Predictors included demographic characteristics (stage 1); asthma control assessed by the Asthma Control Test (stage 2); and caregiver depression and anxiety (Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression and the Spielberger State/Trait Anxiety Scale) and child depression and anxiety (Children's Depression Inventory and the Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Disorders) (stage 3). RESULTS: Demographic characteristics accounted for only 5.5% of the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire scores. Asthma control significantly increased variance explained in QoL to 32.6%, whereas caregiver and child depression and anxiety symptoms significantly increased variance explained to 42.6%. Child anxiety was found to uniquely explain the largest proportion of variance in QoL (rs2 = 0.584). CONCLUSION: After adjusting variance in QoL for demographic characteristics and asthma control, caregiver and child depression and anxiety measures significantly increased the proportion of variance explained in a child's asthma-related QoL. In addition to better asthma control, child and caregiver depression and anxiety should be addressed to increase child asthma-related QoL. BACKGROUND AND AIM: Lack of awareness disturbs proper care for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections in patients undergoing surgery. We investigated the status of HCV screening, confirmation, and treatment in patients who underwent surgery. METHODS: Patients who underwent surgery at a tertiary academic center between 2019 and 2021 were eligible for this retrospective study. RESULTS: Between 2019 and 2021, 96 894 patients (40 121 males; 41.4%) who underwent surgery under general anesthesia were recruited. The median age of the participants was 55.0 years. Of the 83 920 (86.6%) patients who tested positive for anti-HCV antibodies, 576 (0.7%) showed positive results, with a higher proportion of patients with diabetes mellitus (32.6% vs 18.5%), hypertension (50.5% vs 28.6%), liver cirrhosis (13.2% vs 1.7%), and unfavorable laboratory test results when compared with those with negative results (all P < 0.05). HCV RNA was tested in 215 patients (37.3%), with a positivity rate of 20.5% (n = 44). Of the 44 patients, 42 (95.5%) were referred for antiviral treatment, and 29 (69.0%) were successfully treated with direct-acting antiviral therapy. HCV RNA confirmation rates were higher in the Department of Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgery (76.6%) than in the other surgical departments (25.0-33.5%) (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of patients who were positive for anti-HCV antibodies and failed to receive proper management after surgery was not negligible. Increased awareness of HCV infection among surgeons through appropriate education may be required.

Cumulative human exposure to the environmental toxin, bisphenol A (BPA), has raised important health concerns in recent decades. However, the direct genomic regulation of BPA in skeletal muscles and its clinical significance are poorly understood. Therefore, we conducted a genome-wide transcriptome analysis after daily oral administration of BPA at the lowest observed adverse-effect level (LOAEL, 50 mg/kg) in male mice for six weeks to explore the gene-expression regulations in skeletal muscle induced by BPA. The primary Gene Ontology terms linked to BPA-dependent, differentially expressed genes at LOAEL comprised adaptive-immune response, positive regulation of T cell activation, and immune system process. The gene-set enrichment analysis disclosed increased complement-associated genes [complement components 3 (C3) and 4B, complement factor D, complement receptor 2, and immunoglobulin lambda constant 2] in the group administered with BPA, with a false-discovery rate of <0.05. Subsequent validation analysis conducted in BPA-fed animal skeletal muscle tissue and in vitro experiments confirmed that BPA induced immune activation, as evidenced by increased levels of C3 and C4α proteins in mice, C2C12 myoblasts, and mouse skeletal muscle cells. In addition, BPA markedly upregulated the transcription of tumor necrosis factor-α (Tnfα) in C2C12 myoblasts and mouse skeletal muscle cells, which was substantially inhibited by 5z-7-oxozeanol and parthenolide, providing further evidence of BPA-induced inflammation in muscle cells. Our bioinformatics and subsequent animal and in vitro validations demonstrate that BPA can activate inflammation in skeletal muscle, which could be a risk factor underlying chronic muscle weakness and wastage.
