RESUMO

Organic photodetectors (OPDs) have attracted increasing attention in the future wearable sensing and real-time health monitoring, due to their intrinsic features including the mechanical flexibility, low-cost processing and cooling-free operations; while their performances are lagging as the results of inferior carrier mobility and small exciton diffusion coefficient of organic molecules. Graphene exhibits the great photoresponse with wide spectral bandwidth and high response speed. However, weak light absorption and the absence of a gain mechanism have limited its photoresponsivity. Here, we report a sensitive organic/inorganic phototransistor with fast response speed by coupling PTCDA organic single crystal with the monolayer graphene. The long range exciton diffusion in highly ordered π-conjugated molecules, efficient exciton dissociation and charge transfer at the PTCDA/graphene heterointerfaces, and the high mobility of graphene enable a high responsivity (8 × 104A/W), short response time (220 µs) and excellent specific detectivity (>1011 Jones), which is higher than the level of commercial on-chip device. This interfacial photogating effect is verified by the high-resolution spatial photocurrent mapping experiment. In addition, the high sensitivity to polarization is clear and the ultrahigh photoconductive gain enables a near-infrared (NIR) response for 980 and 1550 nm. Finally, high-speed visible and NIR imaging applications are successfully demonstrated. This work suggests that high quality organic single crystal/graphene is a promising platform for future high performance optoelectronic systems and imaging applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Significant concomitants of the sick role maladaptation in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients include inappropriate cognitions, emotional states, and overt conducts associated to disease. This protocol was developed to implement and evaluate the effects of a self-led, virtual reality-based cognitive behavioral therapy (VR-CBT) on the sick role adaptation among working-age CRC patients. METHODS: This is an assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trail that adheres to the SPIRIT 2013 Statement guidelines. A total of 60 working-age CRC patients will be recruited from the colorectal wards of a cancer center and randomly assigned to the VR-CBT group or attention control (AC) group. The VR-CBT group will receive a 7-sessions VR-CBT targeted to sick role adaptation, while the AC group will receive weekly attention at the same time the VR-CBT group receives the intervention. The sick role adaptation, anxiety and depression, illness perceptions, and quality of life will be measured at baseline, 1, 2 and 3-month after completion of the intervention. Side-effects related to VR in the VR-CBT group will be measured at the end of each session. The participants will receive invitations to participate in semi-structured interviews to explore their experiences with the intervention. DISCUSSION: The positive outcomes and user experience of VR-CBT will advance researches on the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions that aims to promote adaptation to the unexpected sick role on cancer populations. This protocol can be tested as an accessible and feasible alternative to traditional high-cost treatment in a randomized controlled study to improve the outcomes of younger cancer survivors. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The protocol was registered on 21 June, 2023 in Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (No.: ChiCTR2300072699) at https://www.chictr.org.cn/ .

RESUMO

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are implicated in the progression of breast cancer (BC). However, the explorations on circRNA IQ motif containing H (circIQCH) in BC progression remain limited. Functional experiments were conducted using in vitro and murine xenograft model assays, respectively. Dual-luciferase reporter assay and RIP assay detected the associations among circIQCH, miR-139-5p, and nuclear factor IB (NFIB). CircIQCH was upregulated in BC, and the silencing of circIQCH repressed BC cell growth, metastasis, and autophagy, arrested cell cycle, promoted cell apoptosis in vitro, and blocked tumor growth in vivo. CircIQCH positively modulated NFIB expression by sponging miR-139-5p. Moreover, the deletion of miR-139-5p abated the action of circIQCH deficiency on BC cell malignant behaviors. Overexpression of miR-139-5p repressed the malignant characteristics of BC cells, while these impacts were abolished by elevating NFIB. Collectively, CircIQCH functioned as an oncogene in BC through upregulating NFIB expression by sponging miR-139-5p.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Paeonia lactiflora Pall. (PLP) is a plant with excellent ornamental and therapeutic value that can be utilized in traditional Chinese medicine as Paeoniae Radix Alba (PRA) and Paeoniae Radix Rubra (PRR). PRA must undergo the "peeling" process, which involves removing the cork and a portion of the phloem. PLP's biological function is strongly linked to its secondary metabolites, and the distribution of metabolites in different regions of the PLP rhizome causes changes in efficacy when PLP is processed into various therapeutic compounds. METHODS: The metabolites of the cork (cor), phloem (phl), and xylem (xyl) were examined in the roots of PLP using a metabolomics approach based on UPLC-Q-Exactive-Orbitrap-MS/MS (UPLC-MS/MS), and the differential metabolites were evaluated using multivariate analysis. RESULTS: Significant changes were observed among the cor, phl, and xyl samples. In both positive and negative ion modes, a total of 15,429 peaks were detected and 7366 metabolites were identified. A total of 525 cor-phl differential metabolites, 452 cor-xyl differential metabolites, and 328 phl-xyl differential metabolites were evaluated. Flavonoids, monoterpene glycosides, fatty acids, sugar derivatives, and carbohydrates were among the top 50 dissimilar chemicals. The key divergent metabolic pathways include linoleic acid metabolism, galactose metabolism, ABC transporters, arginine biosynthesis, and flavonoid biosynthesis. CONCLUSION: The cor, phl, and xyl of PLP roots exhibit significantly different metabolite types and metabolic pathways; therefore, "peeling" may impact the pharmaceutical effect of PLP. This study represents the first metabolomics analysis of the PLP rhizome, laying the groundwork for the isolation and identification of PLP pharmacological activity, as well as the quality evaluation and efficacy exploration of PLP.

RESUMO

Paeonia lactiflora Pall. (PLP) is thought to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. This study used blood component analysis, network pharmacology, and molecular docking to predict the mechanism of PLP in the treatment of blood stasis syndrome (BSS). PLP was processed into Paeoniae Radix Alba (PRA) and Paeoniae Radix Rubra (PRR). PRA and PRR could significantly reduce whole blood viscosity (WBV) at 1/s shear rates and could increase the erythrocyte aggregation index (EAI), plasma viscosity (PV), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) of rats with acute blood stasis. They prolonged the prothrombin time (PT), and PRR prolonged the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). PRA and PRR increased the thrombin time (TT) and decreased the fibrinogen (FBG) content. All the results were significant (p < 0.05). Ten components of Paeoniflorin, Albiflorin, Paeonin C, and others were identified in the plasma of rats using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS). A protein-protein interaction network (PPI) analysis showed that AKT1, EGFR, SRC, MAPK14, NOS3, and KDR were key targets of PLP in the treatment of BSS, and the molecular docking results further verified this. This study indicated that PLP improves BSS in multiple ways and that the potential pharmacological mechanisms may be related to angiogenesis, vasoconstriction and relaxation, coagulation, and the migration and proliferation of vascular cells.

RESUMO

This study aims to explore the interaction of glycemic control and statin use on the treatment outcomes of pulmonary tuberculosis-diabetes comorbidity (PTB-DM) patients. A nested case-control study was conducted in a tuberculosis patients' cohort. We defined cases as patients who experienced unfavorable outcomes. Glycemic control was estimated at the baseline. Statin use was obtained from medical records. The multivariate logistic regression models were developed, and the interaction table invented by Andersson was adopted to analyze the interaction of glycemic control and statin use on treatment outcomes. A total of 2,047 patients were included in this study. There was a significant interaction between glycemic control and statin use on the treatment outcomes. Patients with good glycemic control and no statin use (OR = 0.464, 95% CI: 0.360-0.623) had a lower risk of unfavorable outcomes than those with poor glycemic control and statin use (OR = 0.604, 95% CI: 0.401-0.734). Patients with good glycemic control and statin use had the lowest risk of unfavorable outcomes (OR = 0.394, 95% CI: 0.264-0.521). Glycemic control in diabetes-tuberculosis treatment should be paid considerable attention. Patients can benefit from statin use even if they have poor glycemic control. Patients with good glycemic control and statin use can have the best outcomes.

RESUMO

Fiber optic communication is becoming the central pillar of modern high-speed communication technology, which involves the abundant fiber components. Currently, most of photodetectors are fabricated on the silicon chip, so mass fiber-to-chip interfaces increase the complexity of advanced optoelectronic system, and also grow the risk of optical information loss. Here, we report an all-fiber organic phototransistor by employing rubrene single crystal and few-layer graphene to realize the "plug-to-play" operation. The device shows a broadband photoresponse from the ultraviolet to visible range, with fast response times of approximately 130/170 µs and reasonable specific detectivity of 6 × 109 Jones, which is close to the level of commercial on-chip device. Finally, several imaging applications are successfully demonstrated by deploying this all-fiber device. Our work provided an efficient strategy for fabricating all-fiber organic devices, and confirmed their significant potential in future optical fiber optoelectronics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most serious infectious diseases worldwide. China has the second highest TB burden globally, but existing studies have mostly neglected the post-tuberculosis (post-TB) disease burden. This study estimated the disease burden of TB and post-TB in Inner Mongolia, China, from 2016 to 2018. METHODS: Population data were collected from TB Information Management System. Post-TB disease burden was defined as the burden caused by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) occurring after patients with TB were cured. To estimate the incidence rate of TB, standardized mortality rate, life expectancy, and cause eliminated life expectancy, using descriptive epidemiological, abridged life table and cause eliminated life table. On this basis, the Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY), Years Lived with Disability (YLD) and Years of Life Lost (YLL) due to TB were further be estimated. The data were analyzed using Excel 2016 and SPSS 26.0. Joinpoint regression models were used to estimate the time and age trends of the disease burden of TB and post-TB. RESULTS: The TB incidence in 2016, 2017, and 2018 was 41.65, 44.30, and 55.63/100,000, respectively. The standardized mortality in the same period was 0.58, 0.65, and 1.08/100,000, respectively. From 2016 to 2018, the total DALYs of TB and post-TB were 5923.33, 6258.03, and 8194.38 person-years, and the DALYs of post-TB from 2016 to 2018 were 1555.89, 1663.33, and 2042.43 person-years. Joinpoint regression showed that the DALYs rate increased yearly from 2016 to 2018, and the rate of males was higher than that of females. TB and post-TB DALYs rates showed a rising tendency with increasing age (AAPC values were 149.6% and 157.0%, respectively, P < 0.05), which was higher in the working-age population and elderly. CONCLUSION: The disease burden of TB and post-TB was heavy and increased year by year in Inner Mongolia from 2016 to 2018. Compared with the youngster and females, working-age population and the elderly and males had a higher disease burden. Policymakers should be paid more attention to the patients' sustained lung injury after TB cured. There is a pressing need to identify more effective measures for reducing the burden of TB and post-TB of people, to improve their health and well-being.

RESUMO

AIM AND OBJECTIVES: This qualitative study explores why breast cancer patients do not share disease-related information with their dependent children. BACKGROUND: 'Open' communication between breast cancer patients and their children is beneficial to both. However, some still try to avoid discussing their diagnosis and related information with their children. Some worries lie in communicating with dependent children, but the underlying cause remains unclear. DESIGN: Qualitative descriptive study. METHODS: Semi-structured interview was used in this study. Twenty breast cancer patients with children (aged 8-18 years) were recruited at two urban tertiary hospitals in mainland China. Qualitative content analysis was conducted to analyse and identify themes and subthemes. This study followed the COREQ checklist for qualitative studies. RESULTS: Three main themes were identified: (1) Uncertainty about the future: Their struggles with cancer remain a sensitive subject with their children. They described the uncertainty surrounding their disease prognosis and their children's response. They were also unsure whether, when and how to inform their children of their conditions; (2) Useless and risky for their children to know the truth: They considered it useless because their children can neither understand nor change the existing facts. They were concerned that it could affect their children's emotional state, character and academic performance; and (3) All for their children's sake: They were willing to take care of their affairs without troubling their dependent children as much as possible. CONCLUSION: Most mothers delayed communicating disease-related information to their dependent children. However, they often underestimated children's abilities and ignored their thoughts and wishes. Motherhood leads to avoidance and concealment in discussing health issues with their children. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Mothers should try to understand their children's views towards cancer earlier. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, should provide further consultation and intervention services to assist mothers and their children.

RESUMO

Unit pricing for domestic waste, or pay-as-you-throw (PAYT), affords a promising policy option for waste classification and reduction at source. As an emerging economy, China intends to adopt the sophisticated instrument of unit pricing. The public attitude to this policy is of high relevance for its actual implementation. For the first time in China, this paper quantitatively examined the acceptability of the policy among urban residents by randomly delivering 632 questionnaires by taking Beijing, a megacity expected to introduce the practice, as an example. Based on the ordered logit model, determinants of acceptability were empirically tested including intrinsic, external and demographic factors. The results show that the acceptability rate of PAYT in Beijing is less than half, with the proportion of firm support reaching only 42.6%. The respectively low acceptability rate indicates substantial compliance costs, due to intensive resistance to policy implementation and more resources to be invested to promote acceptability. Empirical analysis further indicates that (1) regarding demographic features, aged or less educated residents tend to accept unit pricing, (2) as for intrinsic factors, a friendly environmental attitude, deeper understanding of charging policy and better social perception can significantly improve the public acceptability of the policy, and (3) in terms of external factors, better property services and transparent funding mechanisms play significant roles in enhancing public acceptability. These findings are further confirmed by replacing the dependent variable with either the willingness to pay for household waste disposal or the acceptability of the operated sewage treatment fee. The status of residents' preference for specific pricing methods is further investigated with underlying reasons being revealed. For developing regions with an urgent demand for waste reduction, it is proposed to install unit pricing in time to avoid possible growing social acceptability costs. Specific measures are proposed including changes in intrinsic factors, paying attention to focus groups, and building social consensus for unit pricing.

RESUMO

In this study, an established ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) method was combined with multivariate statistical analysis to investigate the commonality and difference of main chemical components in the medicinal parts of Paeonia lactiflora from different cultivars; in addition, a high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) method was established to simultaneously determine the content of eight active components in Paeoniae Radix Alba. Non-targeted analysis was carried out by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS on a Waters ACQUITY UPLC BEH C_(18)(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.7 µm) column with a gradient elution of 0.1% aqueous formic acid(A)-acetonitrile(B) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.2 mL·min~(-1). The column temperature was 30 ℃, and an electrospray ionization source was used to acquire mass spectrometry data in positive and negative ion modes. According to the accurate molecular weight and fragment ion information provided by multi-stage mass spectrometry and by comparison with reference substances and literature reports, thirty-six identical components were identified in Paeoniae Radix Alba from different cultivars with positive and negative ion modes. In the negative ion mode, two groups of samples were well separated; specifically, seventeen components with significant differences in content were screened and identified, and one component unique in "Bobaishao" was obtained. Quantitative analysis was conducted by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) on an Agilent HC-C_(18)(4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 µm) column with a gradient elution of 0.1% aqueous phosphoric acid(A)-acetonitrile(B) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min~(-1). The column temperature was 30 ℃ and the detection wavelength was at 230 nm. An HPLC method was developed for the simultaneous determination of eight active components(gallic acid, oxypaeoniflorin, catechin, albiflorin, paeoniflorin, galloylpaeoniflorin, 1,2,3,4,6-O-pentagalloylglucose, benzoyl-paeoniflorin) in Paeoniae Radix Albaa from different cultivars. Satisfactory linearity was achieved within the investigated linear ranges and with fine coefficients(r>0.999 0), and the methodological investigation showed that the method had good precision, repeatability and stability. The mean recoveries were 90.61% to 101.7% with RSD of 0.12% to 3.6%(n=6). UPLC-Q-OF-MS provided a rapid and efficient qualitative analytical method for the identification of the chemical components in Paeoniae Radix Alba, and the developed HPLC method was simple, rapid and accurate, which could provide a scientific basis for the evaluation of the germplasm resources and herbal quality of Paeoniae Radix Alba from different cultivars.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Against the background of an aging population, older adults living alone in cities are increasingly dependent. However, their use of home and community-based services in China is unsatisfactory. This study attempted to figure out why older adults living alone in cities do not actively seek assistance in China. METHODS: In-depth interviews were conducted. A total of 29 older adults were recruited. Content analysis was used to analyze the interview data. RESULTS: Three themes were identified. (1) Desire for independence, despite hardship: The lives of older adults involve many inconveniences, but they preferred to solve problems by themselves, instead of asking for help; (2) Desire to not overburden jiaren (meaning family in Chinese): older adults did not want to disturb families or burden children with caring responsibilities. Moreover, previous experience of failing to obtain care made them reluctant to seek help from jiaren; (3) Desire to not bother wairen (meaning people other than family in Chinese): The lack of trust caused by being unfamiliar with wairen, and the fear of being a burden to others if they were not able to reciprocate, made older adults reluctant to seek help from wairen. CONCLUSIONS: Changes in social, economic, and demographic structures have led to gradual failure of family care. Older adults accustomed to an "acquaintance society" have not yet adapted to seeking help from the community. When addressing the problem of care for older adults living alone in cities, it is important to focus on the profound impact of social change.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The increased number of older adults living alone has created a substantial care need. However, the utilization rate of services and facilities to meet these needs are surprisingly low. Many of older adults experience difficulties accessing these services, although it remains unclear how these obstacles impede access to services. This study explored the obstacles and difficulties experienced by urban older adults in seeking community care. METHODS: A phenomenological study was carried out and participatory observation and in-depth interviews were employed to investigate the process of seeking care of older adults in urban communities. A total of 18 urban community-dwelling older adults aged 75 years and over were included. Data collected were analysed by content analysis. RESULTS: We identified the pathways by which senior-only households sought community care and encountered obstacles. (1) lack of community care information: older adults did not know where and how to get services, even though the care institutions scattered throughout the community; (2) limited mobility: older adults often suffered from various chronic diseases, which physically hindered their access to care resources; (3) complex process of achieving care: the functional fragmentation and geographical dispersion of care institutions made the care-seeking process challenging and confusing for older adults; (4) incomprehension of needs expression: limited interaction time and communication barriers between staff of institutions and the older adults were the final obstacle. Only by surmounting these obstacles one by one can older adults access the care resources effectively. CONCLUSIONS: When older adults in the community initiated calls for help, they encountered several obstacles. Their physiological and social disadvantages limited their ability to seek care physically. Lack of integration and clear guidance in the process of providing community care exacerbated these difficulties. Reform of care services should focus on the visibility and accessibility of services for older adults.

RESUMO

The guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of monkeypox (2022 edition) issued by National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China introduces the key knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of human monkeypox (HMPX) and does not systematically introduce the sampling methods and requirements of specimens for HMPX etiology testing and the discrepancy in diagnostic criteria between China and overseas. However, the doctors who are not engaged in dermatology lack understanding of the sampling methods and requirements of specimens for laboratory diagnosis of HMPX, and there are few relevant references available. This article collects the information on the diagnosis and treatment of HMPX, so as to provide a reference for learning, understanding, and application of this guideline.

RESUMO

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), a bioactive component extracted from propolis of honeybee hives, can inhibit hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In order to explore more stable CAPE derivatives, 25 compounds were designed, synthesized, and pharmacologically assessed in vitro and in vivo as anti-tumor agents in HCC. Compounds 8d, 8f, 8l, 8j, and 8k showed favorable antiproliferative activity than other compounds including CAPE in the HCC cell lines. Based on the result of QTRP (Quantitative Thiol Reactivity Profiling), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and C-terminal Src kinase (CSK) were supposed to the targets of 8f, which was confirmed by binding mode analysis. Furthermore, compounds 8f, 8l, 8j, 8k, 8g, and 8h showed potent inhibitory effects against both CSK and EGFR than other derivatives in an ADP-Glo™ kinase assay. The representative compound, 8f, potently inhibited various tumor growth in murine model including murine hepatocellular carcinoma H22, meanwhile downregulating the EGFR/AKT pathway and enhancing T cell proliferation through inhibition of CSK. Metabolic stability in vitro suggested 8f and 8k were more stable in mouse plasma than CAPE and susceptible to metabolism in liver microsomes. The overall excellent profile of compound 8f makes it a potential candidate for further preclinical investigation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Independent decision-making is one of the basic rights of patients. However, in clinical practice, most older cancer patients' treatment decisions are made by family members. OBJECTIVE: This study attempted to analyze the treatment decision-making process and formation mechanism for older cancer patients within the special cultural context of Chinese medical practice. METHOD: A qualitative study was conducted. With the sample saturation principle, data collected by in-depth interviews with 17 family members and 12 patients were subjected to thematic analysis. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The study was approved by the ethics committees of Sun Yat-sen University. All participants provided verbal informed consent after being told their rights of confidentiality, anonymity, and voluntary participation. They had the right to refuse to answer questions and could withdraw at any time. RESULTS: Three themes emerged: (1) complex process; (2) transformation of family decision-making power; and (3) individual compromise. Family members inevitably had different opinions during the long process of treatment decision-making for older cancer patients. The direction of this process could be regarded as an extension of the family power relationship. The patient usually compromised the decision to survive, which was made by family members. CONCLUSION: This study describes the treatment decision-making process of older cancer patients in the context of Chinese culture. The reasons underlying this process are related to the views on life and death and family values. An individual is a part of the family, which is often seen as the minimal interpersonal unit in Chinese society. It is significant that while emphasizing patient autonomy in the decision-making process, health professionals should also pay attention to the important roles of culture and family.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is one of the leading risk factors for ischemic heart diseases, and high rates of hypertension prevalence have either remained the same or increased in developing countries in recent years. Unfortunately, about 20% to 50% of patients with chronic diseases have been nonadherent to their drug therapy. SMS text messaging and pharmacy student-led consultations have the potential to help patients manage their blood pressure (BP). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of SMS text messaging and consultation to manage the BP of Chinese patients with hypertension. METHODS: We conducted a two-arm cluster randomized controlled trial among patients with hypertension in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, China, and recruited 384 patients from 8 community health care centers. Patients were randomized into an intervention group to receive SMS text messages and consultations or into a control group to receive usual care for 3 months. We sent SMS text messages at 3-day intervals and collected data at baseline (including demographics, clinical outcomes, medication complexity, side effects, patient behavior, knowledge about hypertension, BP, and medication adherence) and the 3-month follow-up (including BP, medication adherence, and knowledge about hypertension). RESULTS: We assessed 445 patients with hypertension and excluded 61 patients who were not eligible or who had not filled out their questionnaires. The mean age of the patients was 68.5 (SD 7.9) years in the intervention group and 69.4 (SD 9.7) years in the control group, and the sample was primarily female (265/384, 69.0%). Patients in the intervention group showed significant improvements in systolic BP (SBP; mean 134.5 mm Hg, SD 15.5 mm Hg vs mean 140.7 mm Hg, SD 15.2 mm Hg; P=.001), medication adherence (mean 7.4, SD 1.2 vs mean 7.0, SD 1.3; P=.04), and knowledge about hypertension (mean 6.3, SD 0.9 vs mean 5.9, SD 1.2; P=.004) compared with those in the control group. In measures of diastolic BP (DBP), the two arms showed nonsignificant improvements (mean 78.2 mm Hg, SD 9.0 mm Hg vs mean 77.2 mm Hg, SD 10.3 mm Hg; P=.06). In total, 176 patients had controlled BP at the 3-month follow-up (98 patients in the intervention group vs 78 patients in the control group), but it was nonsignificant (P=.08). CONCLUSIONS: The use of SMS text messaging and consultation to manage SBP and improve medication adherence is effective, feasible, and acceptable among Chinese patients with hypertension, although a significant difference was not observed with regard to DBP. It is important to maximize the potential of SMS text messaging and consultation by increasing the feasibility and acceptance of mobile interventions and conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis on this method. RESUMO

The preparation of aggregation-induced emission-type copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) capped with polydopamine (PDA) is described. PDA was formed via in situ polymerization of dopamine in the presence of alkaline polyethylenimine. The PDA-capped CuNCs (PDA-CuNCs) exhibit orange fluorescence with maximal emission at 580 nm upon excitation at 340 nm, a storage stability of at least 2 weeks, and a quantum yield (QY) of 2.54% in aqueous solution. The QY is 28-fold higher than that of sole CuNCs. The fluorescence of the PDA-CuNCs is quenched by Fe3+ ion while it is recovered by PO43- due to its stronger affinity for Fe3+. On this basis, a fluorometric phosphate assay was developed that has a 1.5 nM detection limit and a linear range over 0.003-70 µM. The method was satisfactorily applied to the determination of phosphate in local tap water and human sera, and the results agreed well with those obtained by a colorimetric method. In the presence of acid phosphatase (ACP), PO43- is produced by the catalytic hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ACP substrate). Thus, a fluorogenic assay for screening ACP activity was established. Response is linear over the activity range 0.0012-25 U L-1, with a detection limit of 0.001 U L-1 (at S/N = 3). Graphic abstract We proposed an effective polydopamine-templating strategy for the in situ synthesis of highly emissive and stable CuNCs and demonstrated its use as an ion-driven fluorescence switch for the determination of phosphate and acid phosphatase activity.

RESUMO

The PPAR coactivator-1α (PGC1α) is an important transcriptional co-activator in control of fatty acid metabolism. Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation (FAO) is the primary pathway for the degradation of fatty acids and promotes NADPH and ATP production. Our previous study demonstrated that upregulation of carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1 A (CPT1A), the key regulator of FAO, promotes radiation resistance of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In this study, we found that high expression of PGC1α is associated with poor overall survival in NPC patients after radiation treatment. Targeting PGC1α could sensitize NPC cells to radiotherapy. Mechanically, PGC1α binds to CCAAT/enhancer binding protein ß (CEBPB), a member of the transcription factor family of CEBP, to promote CPT1A transcription, resulting in activation of FAO. Our results revealed that the PGC1α/CEBPB/CPT1A/FAO signaling axis promotes radiation resistance of NPC. These findings indicate that the expression of PGC1α could be a prognostic indicator of NPC, and targeting FAO in NPC with high expression of PGC1α might improve the therapeutic efficacy of radiotherapy.

RESUMO

ZnO nanowire photodetectors have attracted much attention due to their excellent optoelectronic performance. However, operating speed remains a challenge, and scalability is also impeded by uncontrolled transfer methods and sophisticated fabrication process. In this paper, we have fabricated an excellent ZnO nanobridge ultraviolet photodetector array by using a simple one-step method. The faster photoresponse speed and a broader response wavelength (from UV to visible range) have been achieved by constructing a type-II ZnO/rubrene heterointerface. Performance enhancement is believed to arise from the well-matching band alignment and highly efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs at the heterointerface. Our strategy provides a simple and promising route to develop cost-effective and highly sensitive UV-vis photodetectors.
