RESUMO

Postpartum ovarian vein thrombosis (POVT) is a rare cause of right fossa pain but the diagnosis should be considered in the clinical setting of persistent fever and lower quadrant tenderness in the postpartum period. Although ultrasound is the initial step in the diagnostic work-up right fossa pain, it is often limited by overlying bowel gas and an enlarged puerperal uterus. Therefore, most authors recommend Computed Tomography (CT) as the imaging technique of choice to confirm the clinical suspicion of POVT. Because Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is less readily available, it is rarely performed for this indication. However, MRI allows not only to make the diagnosis as accurate as CT, but moreover it provides 2 important advantages in compared to CT. First, it avoids ionizing radiation. Secondly, the use of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) may obviate the administration of intravenous contrast.

RESUMO

Noonan syndrome (NS) is an etiologically heterogeneous disorder caused by mutations in the RAS-MAPK signaling pathway. Noonan-Like/Multiple Giant Cell Lesion (NL/MGCL) syndrome is initially described as the occurrence of multiple gnathic giant cell lesions in patients with phenotypic features of NS. Nowadays, NS/MGCL syndrome is considered a variant of the NS spectrum rather than a distinct entity. We report the case of a 14-year-old female patient carrying a SOS1 mutation with a unilateral giant cell lesion of the right mandible. Cross-sectional imaging such as CT and MRI are not specific for the diagnosis of oral giant cell lesions. Nonetheless, intralesional scattered foci of low SI on T2-WI, corresponding to hemosiderin deposits due to hemorrhage, can help the radiologist in narrowing down the differential diagnosis of gnathic lesions in patients with NS.

RESUMO

We report a case of intestinal ileal lipomatosis in a 56-year-old Caucasian male complicated with small bowel obstruction due to ileocolic intussusception with a lipoma serving as lead point. This rare disease is often only discovered incidentally as a consequence of mechanical complications and not well reported in the international literature, compared to intussusception due to an isolated lipoma. Computed tomography is the imaging modality of choice to depict complications of this distinct clinicopathological entity. Density measurements can confirm the fatty content and homogeneity analysis of the lesions can guide the radiologist in the differential diagnosis.

RESUMO

The calcaneus is an uncommon site for involvement by tumors or tumorlike conditions of bone, although any lesion may involve the calcaneus. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the imaging features of common and uncommon tumors and tumorlike conditions occurring in the calcaneus. Typical case studies will illustrate the imaging findings on different imaging modalities.

RESUMO

We describe a very unusual form of sarcoidosis of the testis, mimicking malignancy at initial presentation. Genitourinary sarcoidosis is rare and this case report emphasizes the importance of meticulous analysis of the patient's clinical history combined with imaging findings and specific pathological criteria to diagnose this granulomatous disorder.
