RESUMO

Shoot branching fundamentally influences plant architecture and agricultural yield. However, research on shoot branching in Dendrobium catenatum, an endangered medicinal plant in China, remains limited. In this study, we identified a transcription factor DcERF109 as a key player in shoot branching by regulating the expression of strigolactone (SL) receptors DWARF 14 (D14)/ DECREASED APICAL DOMINANCE 2 (DAD2). The treatment of D. catenatum seedlings with GR24rac/TIS108 revealed that SL can significantly repress the shoot branching in D. catenatum. The expression of DcERF109 in multi-branched seedlings is significantly higher than that of single-branched seedlings. Ectopic expression in Arabidopsis thaliana demonstrated that overexpression of DcERF109 resulted in significant shoot branches increasing and dwarfing. Molecular and biochemical assays demonstrated that DcERF109 can directly bind to the promoters of AtD14 and DcDAD2.2 to inhibit their expression, thereby positively regulating shoot branching. Inhibition of DcERF109 by virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) resulted in decreased shoot branching and improved DcDAD2.2 expression. Moreover, overexpression of DpERF109 in A. thaliana, the homologous gene of DcERF109 in Dendrobium primulinum, showed similar phenotypes to DcERF109 in shoot branch and plant height. Collectively, these findings shed new insights into the regulation of plant shoot branching and provide a theoretical basis for improving the yield of D. catenatum.

RESUMO

Salinity stress has a great impact on crop growth and productivity and is one of the major factors responsible for crop yield losses. The K-homologous (KH) family proteins play vital roles in regulating plant development and responding to abiotic stress in plants. However, the systematic characterization of the KH family in rice is still lacking. In this study, we performed genome-wide identification and functional analysis of KH family genes and identified a total of 31 KH genes in rice. According to the homologs of KH genes in Arabidopsis thaliana, we constructed a phylogenetic tree with 61 KH genes containing 31 KH genes in Oryza sativa and 30 KH genes in Arabidopsis thaliana and separated them into three major groups. In silico tissue expression analysis showed that the OsKH genes are constitutively expressed. The qRT-PCR results revealed that eight OsKH genes responded strongly to salt stresses, and OsKH12 exhibited the strongest decrease in expression level, which was selected for further study. We generated the Oskh12-knockout mutant via the CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing method. Further stress treatment and biochemical assays confirmed that Oskh12 mutant was more salt-sensitive than Nip and the expression of several key salt-tolerant genes in Oskh12 was significantly reduced. Taken together, our results shed light on the understanding of the KH family and provide a theoretical basis for future abiotic stress studies in rice.

RESUMO

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an important, substantial global oil crop with robust resilience to drought and salt stresses. The TGA (TGACG motif-binding factor) transcription factors, belonging to the basic region leucine zipper (bZIP) family, have been implicated in orchestrating multiple biological processes. Despite their functional significance, a comprehensive investigation of the TGA family's abiotic stress tolerance in sunflowers remains elusive. In the present study, we identified 14 TGA proteins in the sunflower genome, which were unequally distributed across 17 chromosomes. Employing phylogenetic analysis encompassing 149 TGA members among 13 distinct species, we revealed the evolutionary conservation of TGA proteins across the plant kingdom. Collinearity analysis suggested that both HaTGA01 and HaTGA03 were generated due to HaTGA08 gene duplication. Notably, qRT-PCR analysis demonstrated that HaTGA04, HaTGA05, and HaTGA14 genes were remarkably upregulated under ABA, MeJA, and salt treatments, whereas HaTGA03, HaTGA06, and HaTGA07 were significantly repressed. This study contributes valuable perspectives on the potential roles of the HaTGA gene family under various stress conditions in sunflowers, thereby enhancing our understanding of TGA gene family dynamics and function within this agriculturally significant species.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Extracellular free water (FW) resulting from white matter degeneration limits the sensitivity of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in predicting Alzheimer's disease (AD). PURPOSE: To evaluate the sensitivity of FW-DTI in detecting white matter microstructural changes in AD. To validate the effectiveness of FW-DTI indices to predict amyloid-beta (Aß) positivity in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) subtypes. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: Thirty-eight Aß-negative cognitively healthy (CH) controls (68.74 ± 8.28 years old, 55% female), 15 Aß-negative MCI patients (MCI-n) (68.87 ± 8.83 years old, 60% female), 29 Aß-positive MCI patients (MCI-p) (73.03 ± 7.05 years old, 52% female), and 29 Aß-positive AD patients (72.93 ± 9.11 years old, 55% female). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 3.0T; DTI, T1 -weighted, T2 -weighted, T2 star-weighted angiography, and Aß PET (18 F-florbetaben or 11 C-PIB). ASSESSMENT: FW-corrected and standard diffusion indices were analyzed using trace-based spatial statistics. Area under the curve (AUC) in distinguishing MCI subtypes were compared using support vector machine (SVM). STATISTICAL TESTS: Chi-squared test, one-way analysis of covariance, general linear regression analyses, nonparametric permutation tests, partial Pearson's correlation, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, and linear SVM. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Compared with CH/MCI-n/MCI-p, AD showed significant change in tissue compartment indices of FW-DTI. No difference was found in the FW index among pair-wise group comparisons (the minimum FWE-corrected P = 0.114). There was a significant association between FW-DTI indices and memory and visuospatial function. The SVM classifier with tissue radial diffusivity as an input feature had the best classification performance of MCI subtypes (AUC = 0.91), and the classifying accuracy of FW-DTI was all over 89.89%. DATA CONCLUSION: FW-DTI indices prove to be potential biomarkers of AD. The classification of MCI subtypes based on SVM and FW-DTI indices has good accuracy and could help early diagnosis. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 4 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

RESUMO

The UBiA genes encode a large class of isopentenyltransferases, which are involved in the synthesis of secondary metabolites such as chlorophyll and vitamin E. They performed important functions in the whole plant's growth and development. Current studies on UBiA genes were not comprehensive enough, especially for sunflower UBiA genes. In this study, 10 HaUBiAs were identified by domain analysis these HaUBiAs had five major conserved domains and were unevenly distributed on six chromosomes. By constructing phylogenetic trees, 119 UBiA genes were found in 12 species with different evolutionary levels and divided into five major groups, which contained seven conserved motifs and eight UBiA subsuper family domains. Tissue expression analysis showed that HaUBiAs were highly expressed in the roots, leaves, and seeds. By using promoter analysis, the cis-elements of UBiA genes were mainly in hormone signaling and stress responses. The qRT-PCR results showed that HaUBiA1 and HaUBiA5 responded strongly to abiotic stresses. Under ABA and MeJA treatments, HaUBiA1 significantly upregulated, while HaUBiA5 significantly decreased. Under cold stress, the expression of UBiA1 was significantly upregulated in the roots and stems, while UBiA5 expression was increased only in the leaves. Under anaerobic induction, UBiA1 and UBiA5 were both upregulated in the roots, stems and leaves. In summary, this study systematically classified the UBiA family and identified two abiotic stress candidate genes in the sunflower. It expands the understanding of the UBiA family and provides a theoretical basis for future abiotic stress studies in sunflowers.

RESUMO

APETALA2/Ethylene Responsive Factor (AP2/ERF) family plays important roles in reproductive development, stress responses and hormone responses in plants. However, AP2/ERF family has not been systematically studied in Dendrobium catenatum. In this study, 120 AP2/ERF family members were identified for the first time in D. catenatum, which were divided into four groups (AP2, RAV, ERF and DREB subfamily) according to phylogenetic analysis. Gene structures and conserved motif analysis showed that each DcAP2/ERF family gene contained at least one AP2 domain, and the distribution of motifs varied among subfamilies. Cis-element analysis indicated that DcAP2/ERF genes contained abundant cis-elements related to hormone signaling and stress response. To further identify potential genes involved in drought stress, 12 genes were selected to detect their expression under drought treatment through qRT-PCR analysis and DcAP2/ERF#96, a nuclear localized ethylene-responsive transcription factor, showed a strong response to PEG treatment. Overexpression of DcAP2/ERF#96 in Arabidopsis showed sensitivity to ABA. Molecular, biochemical and genetic assays indicated that DcAP2ERF#96 interacts with DREB2A and directly inhibits the expression of P5CS1 in response to the ABA signal. Taken together, our study provided a molecular basis for the intensive study of DcAP2/ERF genes and revealed the biological function of DcAP2ERF#96 involved in the ABA signal.

RESUMO

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is widely used for its cleanliness and high efficiency in industry and city life. In order to improve the suppression effect on LPG explosion, a constant volume combustion bomb was used to investigate the synergistic influence of N2/ultrafine water mist on the explosion and combustion characteristics of 6% premixed LPG/air gas. The results showed that (1) the effect of a single ultrafine water mist on suppressing LPG explosion is unstable. When the concentration of ultrafine water mist is low, the flame acceleration in the initial stage of explosion is promoted, and when the ultrafine water mist with a mass fraction of 420 g/m3 is introduced, the maximum pressure rise rate increases. (2) The combination of N2/ultrafine water mist has a synergistic effect on LPG explosion. Compared to the individual suppression effects, the combination of N2/ultrafine water mist showed more effective suppression on the explosion pressure, flame propagation, and flame instability of LPG explosion. (3) Through the mechanism analysis, it is found that the combined action of N2/ ultrafine water mist can better reduce the mole fraction and ROP peak of active free radicals such as H, O, and OH by inhibiting the main reaction of generating H, O, and OH radicals during the explosion of LPG, resulting in the reduction of flame free radicals in the explosion system, thus effectively inhibiting the chain reaction of ignition and explosion of LPG. This research can provide guidance for a better understanding and implementation of gas-liquid two-phase suppression technology for LPG explosion.

RESUMO

Dendrobium catenatum is a highly drought-tolerant herb, which usually grows on cliffs or in the branches of trees, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms for its tolerance remain poorly understood. We conducted a comprehensive study utilizing whole-transcriptome sequencing approaches to investigate the molecular response to extreme drought stress in D. catenatum. A large number of differentially expressed mRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs have been identified, and the NAC transcription factor family was highly enriched. Meanwhile, 46 genes were significantly up-regulated in the ABA-activated signaling pathway. In addition to the 89 NAC family members accurately identified in this study, 32 members were found to have different expressions between the CK and extreme drought treatment. They may regulate drought stress through both ABA-dependent and ABA-independent pathways. Moreover, the 32 analyzed differentially expressed DcNACs were found to be predominantly expressed in the floral organs and roots. The ceRNA regulatory network showed that DcNAC87 is at the core of the ceRNA network and is regulated by miR169, miR393, and four lncRNAs. These investigations provided valuable information on the role of NAC transcription factors in D. catenatum's response to drought stress.

RESUMO

Comorbidity is a common phenotype in Parkinson's disease (PD). Patients with PD not only have motor deficit symptoms, but also have heterogeneous non-motor symptoms, including cognitive impairment and emotional changes, which are the featured symptoms observed in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and cerebrovascular disease. Moreover, autopsy studies have also confirmed the concomitant protein pathogenesis, such as the co-existences of α-synuclein, amyloid-ß and tau pathologies in PD and AD patients' brains. Here, we briefly summarize the recent reports regarding the comorbidity issues in PD from both clinical observations and neuropathological evidences. Furthermore, we provide some discussion about the perspective potential mechanisms underlying such comorbidity phenomenon, with a focus on PD and related neurodegenerative diseases.

RESUMO

Chloroplasts have important roles in photosynthesis, stress sensing and retrograde signaling. However, the relationship between chloroplast peptide chain release factor and ROS-mediated plant growth is still unclear. In the present study, we obtained a loss-of-function mutant dig8 by EMS mutation. The dig8 mutant has few lateral roots and a pale green leaf phenotype. By map-based cloning, the DIG8 gene was located on AT3G62910, with a point mutation leading to amino acid substitution in functional release factor domain. Using yeast-two-hybrid and BiFC, we confirmed DIG8 protein was characterized locating in chloroplast by co-localization with plastid marker and interacting with ribosome-related proteins. Through observing by transmission electron microscopy, quantifying ROS content and measuring the transport efficiency of plasmodesmata in dig8 mutant, we found that abnormal thylakoid stack formation and chloroplast dysfunction in the dig8 mutant caused increased ROS activity leading to callose deposition and lower PD permeability. A local sugar supplement partially alleviated the growth retardation phenotype of the mutant. These findings shed light on chloroplast peptide chain release factor-affected plant growth by ROS stress.

RESUMO

Dopaminergic (DAergic) hypofunction in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) has been implicated in the negative and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia and is regulated by serotonergic (5-HTergic) neurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN). The lateral habenula (LHb) is a key element in controlling DRN 5-HT neurons. We investigated how the LHb impacts the activity of mPFC neurons and whether it mediates the involvement of DRN on development of symptoms in a pharmacological animal model of schizophrenia. We used immunohisochemistry to assess cytochrome-c oxidase (COX) activity of the LHb in MK-801 model rats and extracellular firing recording to compare firing rates in LHb neurons of acute MK-801-treated rats. The sucrose preference, social interaction, and radial arm maze tests were used to access schizophrenia-like behavior in rats with electrolytically lesioned LHb. Finally, we examined levels of the dopamine D1 receptor (D1R) and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in the mPFC, and tryptophan hydroxylase 2 (TPH2) in the DRN of rats with LHb lesions to determine the possible mechanism underlying the schizophrenia-like behavior associated with lesioned LHb. We found that COX levels and LHb neuron firing rates decreased significantly in MK-801-treated animals. The LHb lesions induced negative and cognitive, but not positive symptoms of schizophrenia. The D1R and TH levels decreased in the mPFC while TPH2 expression elevated in the DRN and mPFC of LHb-lesioned rats. These results suggest that LHb hypoactivity may contribute to the negative and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia by downregulating D1R expression in the mPFC, which might be mediated by DRN 5-HT neurons.

RESUMO

Object-location memory is particularly fragile and specifically impaired in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was utilized to objectively measure memory impairment for memory formation correlates of EEG oscillatory activities. We aimed to construct an object-location memory paradigm and explore EEG signs of it. Two groups of 20 probable mild AD patients and 19 healthy older adults were included in a cross-sectional analysis. All subjects took an object-location memory task. EEG recordings performed during object-location memory tasks were compared between the two groups in the two EEG parameters (spectral parameters and phase synchronization). The memory performance of AD patients was worse than that of healthy elderly adults The power of object-location memory of the AD group was significantly higher than the NC group (healthy elderly adults) in the alpha band in the encoding session, and alpha and theta bands in the retrieval session. The channels-pairs the phase lag index value of object-location memory in the AD group was clearly higher than the NC group in the delta, theta, and alpha bands in encoding sessions and delta and theta bands in retrieval sessions. The results provide support for the hypothesis that the AD patients may use compensation mechanisms to remember the items and episode.

RESUMO

The role of tigecycline in treating multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB) infections remains controversial. A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to assess the efficacy and safety of tigecycline in treating MDR-AB infections. PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases were searched up to 20 September 2015. Studies evaluating the efficacy and/or safety of tigecycline in treating MDR-AB infections were included. PRISMA guidelines were followed and the I(2) method was used for heterogeneity. Seven controlled and seventeen single-arm studies were included. No significant difference was noted when tigecycline was compared with control groups in terms of all-cause mortality (OR=0.87, 95% CI 0.50-1.52; P=0.63) and clinical response (OR=1.58, 95% CI 0.61-4.05; P=0.34). Subgroup analysis indicated that treatment with tigecycline was associated with higher in-hospital mortality (OR=1.57, 95% CI 1.04-2.35; P=0.03). Compared with controls, tigecycline had a significantly lower microbial eradication rate (OR=0.20, 95% CI 0.07-0.59; P=0.003) and trend for longer hospital stay (mean difference, 4.69 days, 95% CI -0.17 to 9.55 days; P=0.06). In comparison with monotherapy, tigecycline combination therapy did not affect mortality, clinical response or microbiological response. Tigecycline was well tolerated in the patient populations studied. The pooled rates of resistance emergence and superinfection during treatment were 12.47% and 19.11%, respectively. These findings disfavour the use of a tigecycline-based regimen for the treatment of MDR-AB infections. Well-designed RCTs are needed to clarify the role of tigecycline for MDR-AB infections.

RESUMO

Acinetobacter (A.) baumannii, an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen that can cause significant morbidity and mortality, has emerged as a worldwide problem. This study aimed to analyze the clinical features and outcomes of patients with A. baumannii bacteremia and determine the factors influencing survival by using 14-day mortality as the primary endpoint. A 6-year retrospective study of 122 cases with monomicrobial A. baumannii bacteremia was conducted in Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital from January 2008 to April 2014. Predictors of 14-day mortality were identified by logistic regression analysis. The overall 14-day mortality rate was 40.2% (49 of 122 patients). Multivariable analysis revealed that independent predictors of 14-day mortality included severity of illness defined by Pitt Bacteremia Score (PBS) (odds ratio [OR], 0.46; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.340-0.619; P < 0.001), neutropenia (OR, 18.02; 95% CI, 1.667-194.67; P = 0.017), and malignancy (OR, 4.63; 95% CI, 1.292-16.588; P = 0.019). The effect of malignancy was influenced by neutropenia (OR for interaction term, 1.60; 95% CI, 1.15-2.22; P = 0.005). A subgroup analysis revealed that 14-day mortality rate for patients with underlying hematological malignancies and solid tumors was 75% (12/16) and 40% (12/30), respectively. Survival analysis revealed that mortality in patients with hematological malignancies was higher than that in patients with solid tumors (P = 0.032). The outcomes of patients with A. baumannii bacteremia were related to PBS, neutropenia, and malignancy. Compared with solid tumors, patients with hematological malignancies had a higher mortality in the setting of A. baumannii bacteremia.

RESUMO

Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infections are prevalent worldwide; they have few effective treatments and this jeopardizes public health. Clinicians often use tigecycline to combat CRE, but its clinical efficacy remains controversial. Therefore, to compare the efficacy and safety of tigecycline in treating CRE infections compared with that of other antimicrobial agents, and to evaluate whether combination therapy and high-dose regimens are beneficial, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis. PubMed and Embase were searched for controlled trials or cohort studies reporting the efficacy and/or safety of tigecycline-based regimens to treat CRE infections. Statistical analyses were performed using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis V2.2. All meta-analyses were performed based on fixed- or random-effects model, and the I method was used to assess heterogeneity. Twenty-one controlled studies and 5 single-arm studies were included in this systematic review. With regard to the controlled studies, the tigecycline groups did not differ significantly from the control groups in terms of overall mortality (Odds ratio (OR) = 0.96 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.75-1.22; P = 0.73]), clinical response rate (OR = 0.58 [95% CI = 0.31-1.09; P = 0.09]), or microbiological response rate (OR = 0.46 [95% CI = 0.15-1.44; P = 0.18]). Subgroup analyses showed that 30-day mortality was significantly lower in patients who received tigecycline combination therapy than in those who received monotherapy (OR = 1.83 [95% CI = 1.07-3.12; P = 0.03]) and other antibiotic regimens (OR = 0.59 [95% CI = 0.39-0.88; P = 0.01]), respectively. In addition, high-dose tigecycline regimens differed significantly from standard dose schedules in terms of ICU mortality (OR = 12.48 [95% CI = 2.06-75.43; P = 0.006]). The results of the 5 single-arm studies corroborated the findings of the controlled studies. Our results indicated that the efficacy of tigecycline in treating CRE infections is similar to that of other antibiotics. Tigecycline combination therapy and high-dose regimens may be more effective than monotherapy and standard-dose regimens, respectively. Nonetheless, considering that the current available evidence is limited, well-designed randomized controlled trials are urgently needed to clarify the comparative efficacy of tigecycline in treating CRE infections.

RESUMO

The serum concentration of soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) reflects immune activation. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the usefulness of suPAR for the diagnosis and prognosis of bacterial infections. PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases were searched for studies reporting the detection of suPAR in adult patients with bacterial infections. Seventeen studies were selected from 671 studies. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of suPAR for diagnosing infection were 0.73 and 0.79, respectively, and the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.82. Subgroup analyses revealed suPAR showed similar AUC values for diagnosing sepsis and bacteremia, but the AUC for differentiating sepsis from systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) was only 0.68. Elevated suPAR levels were significantly associated with a high risk of death, with a pooled risk ratio of 3.37 (95% confidence interval, 2.60-4.38). The pooled sensitivity and specificity for predicting mortality were 0.70 and 0.72, respectivfely, with an AUC of 0.77. Serum suPAR could be a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of bacterial infection, but it is relatively ineffective for differentiating sepsis from SIRS. Further investigation is required to evaluate whether using of suPAR in combination with other biomarkers can improve diagnostic efficacy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Polydatin and resveratrol are extractives of radix or rhizoma of Polygonum cuspidatum, and as the glycoside forms, it is a natural precursor of resveratrol. PURPOSE: In this study, we aimed to explore the mutual transformation between polydatin and resveratrol in rats, and to compare the antioxidative effect of them in vivo. STUDY DESIGN: In this study, we analyzed the serum molar concentration of polydatin and resveratrol after oral administration in rats and evaluated the anti-oxidative stress effects of them using a mouse model. METHODS: Rats were orally administered polydatin or resveratrol and the concentration of them in serum were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Their antioxidative effect was compared in mice with oxidative stress cardiomyopathy induced by doxorubicin (DOX). RESULTS: The results showed that polydatin and resveratrol could mutually transform in vivo, the molar concentration of polydatin in serum was always averagely 3.35 and 4.28 times as much as resveratrol after oral administration of polydatin and resveratrol at 200 mg/kg, respectively. Both polydatin and resveratrol could significantly decrease the content of malonydialdehyde (MDA), promote the activities of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in plasma, and increase the content of glutathione (GSH) in myocardial tissue. The effect of polydatin surpassed resveratrol, particularly embodied in increasing the activities of T-SOD and CAT, and the content of GSH. CONCLUSION: It illustrates that polydatin is the main substance in serum after intragastric administration with polydatin or resveratrol, and the mutual transformation between polydatin and resveratrol keeps balance; they both have the ability of antioxidative stress in vivo, and polydatin has a better effect than resveratrol, which hints that polydatin may be a substitute for resveratrol in antioxidant for clinical use.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Angiogenesis plays an important role in tumor progression. The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an important regulator of angiogenesis. AIM: The objective of this study was to investigate the association between VEGF +936 C/T gene polymorphism and glioma risk in a Chinese Han population. METHODS: We extracted the peripheral blood samples in 160 glioma patients and 320 controls. Genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. RESULTS: Glioma patients had a significantly higher frequency of TT genotype (odds ratio [OR] = 3.75, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.24, 11.40; p = 0.02) than controls. Glioblastoma patients had a significantly higher frequency of TT genotype (OR = 3.05, 95% CI = 1.11, 8.37; p = 0.03) than other gliomas. Patients with grade IV glioma had a significantly higher frequency of TT genotype (OR = 3.12, 95% CI = 1.14, 8.58; p = 0.03) than low-grade glioma. CONCLUSION: Our study indicated that VEGF + 936 C/T genotype was associated with a higher glioma risk in a Chinese Han population.
