RESUMO

Entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) infect insects by landing on and penetrating cuticles. Emerging evidence has shown that, prior to the invasion of insects, fungal cells have to battle and overcome diverse challenges, including the host behavioral defenses, colonization resistance mediated by ectomicrobiotas, host recognition, and generation of enough penetration pressure. The ascomycete EPF such as Metarhizium and Beauveria can thus produce adhesive proteins and/or the exopolysaccharide mucilage to tightly glue fungal cells on cuticles. Producing antimicrobial peptides and chemical compounds can enable EPF to outcompete cuticular defensive microbes. The use of divergent membrane receptors, accumulation, and quick degradation of lipid droplets in conidial cells can help EPF recognize proper hosts and build up cellular turgor to breach cuticles for systematic invasion. Further investigations are still required to unveil the multifaceted and intricate relationships between EPF and insect hosts.

RESUMO

Strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) has been extensively studied in heterogeneous catalysis because of its significance in stabilizing active metals and tuning catalytic performance, but the origin of SMSI is not fully revealed. Herein, by using Pt/CeO2 as a model catalyst, we report an embedding structure at the interface between Pt and (110) plane of CeO2, where Pt clusters (∼1.6 nm) are embedded into the lattice of ceria within 3-4 atomic layers. In contrast, this phenomenon is absent in the CeO2(100) support. This unique geometric structure, as an effective motivator, triggers more significant electron transfer from Pt clusters to CeO2(110) support accompanied by the formation of interfacial structure (Ptδ+-Ov-Ce3+), which plays a crucial role in stabilizing Pt nanoclusters. A comprehensive investigation based on experimental studies and theoretical calculations substantiates that the interfacial sites serve as the intrinsic active center toward water-gas shift reaction (WGSR), featuring a moderate strength CO activation adsorption and largely decreased energy barrier of H2O dissociation, accounting for the prominent catalytic activity of Pt/CeO2(110) (a reaction rate of 15.76 molCO gPt-1 h-1 and a turnover frequency value of 2.19 s-1 at 250 °C). In addition, the Pt/CeO2(110) catalyst shows a prominent durability within a 120 h time-on-stream test, far outperforming the Pt/CeO2(100) one, which demonstrates the advantages of this embedding structure for improving catalyst stability.

RESUMO

The melon fly, Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Coquillett), is a major invasive pest, widely distributed in the Asia-Pacific region and some parts of Africa. Melon fly attractants could improve the effectiveness of current pest management measures. Previous studies have shown that some host fruits are attractive to melon flies but few have investigated the chemical compounds responsible for their attraction. In this study, we aimed to identify the volatile compounds from Luffa acutangula L that attract Z. cucurbitae. In headspace trapping, chemical profiling identified 19 compounds from ridge gourds, with 1-pentadecene being the major component. EAG results revealed that seven compounds elicited antennal responses in Z. cucurbitae, and significant differences in antennal responses between male and female Z. cucurbitae adults were recorded to p-xylene, alpha-pinene, and 1-octadecene. Behavioral experiments demonstrated that the EAG-active compounds methyl isovalerate and methyl myristate had either attractive or repellent effects on Z. cucurbitae at different concentrations, and 1-octadecene attracted Z. cucurbitae. Our findings provide a theoretical basis producing repellents or attractants for effective Integrated Pest Management of Z. cucurbitae.

RESUMO

Telangiectasias are the most frequent type of sequelae of infantile hemangiomas after involution. Few studies have reported the treatment of telangiectasias with 595-nm pulsed dye lasers. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of a 595-nm pulsed dye laser for treating residual telangiectasias following hemangioma involution. This is a retrospective case series that analyzes the medical records and reviews the charts of 22 patients who had undergone 595-nm pulsed dye laser treatment for residual telangiectasias. Pre- and post-treatment digital images were independently assessed, and the changes were scored to ascertain the efficacy of the treatment (0 = no change, 4 = complete improvement). Of the 22 patients, 59.1% experienced complete resolution of telangiectasias following treatment. No serious complications or side effects were reported. The observations indicate that the 595-nm pulsed dye laser is effective and safe for treating residual telangiectasias following hemangioma involution.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the risk factors for postoperative complications in adolescents who undergo primary hypospadias repair and determine the time required for complication detection. METHODS: Our study included patients classified as Tanner stages three to five who underwent primary hypospadias repairs at our hospital from January 2015 to August 2022. The patients' baseline information, clinical characteristics, postoperative complications, and time to complication detection were collected. Cox regression analysis, ROC curves, Kaplan-Meier survival analyses, and the Mann-Whitney U test were used. RESULTS: The study comprised 143 patients, with a median age of 12.58 years. Postoperative complications were experienced by 66 patients. The length of the urethral defect was identified as an independent risk factor for postoperative complications. The ROC curve analysis identified 3 cm as the optimal cutoff value for the length of the urethral defect. The median time to complication detection was 30.5 days (IQR 23 to 209.25). 89.4% of the complications were identified within the first year. Patients with a urethral defect of <3 cm experienced a significantly longer time for the detection of urethral fistula compared to those with a urethral defect of ≥3 cm (p = 0.047). CONCLUSIONS: Our data indicate that adolescents with a urethral defect ≥3 cm have a higher risk of postoperative complications. Although most complications were identified within the first year, conducting long-term follow-ups for adolescents is recommended to identify potential subsequent complications that may arise from persistent urethral alterations.

RESUMO

Biofilm-associated bacterial infections are the major reason for treatment failure in many diseases including burn trauma infections. Uncontrolled inflammation induced by bacteria leads to materiality, tissue damage, and chronic diseases. Specialized proresolving mediators (SPMs), including maresin-like lipid mediators (MarLs), are enzymatically biosynthesized from omega-3 essential long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), by macrophages and other leukocytes. SPMs exhibit strong inflammation-resolving activities, especially inflammation provoked by bacterial infection. In this study, we explored the potential direct inhibitory activities of three MarLs on Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) bacteria in their biofilms that are leading bacteria in burn trauma-related infections. We also examined the effects of MarLs on the bactericidal activities of a typical broad-spectrum antibiotic, carbenicillin (carb), on these bacteria in their preformed biofilms. The results revealed that MarLs combined with carbenicillin can inhibit the survival of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in their biofilms although MarLs alone did not exhibit bactericidal activity. Thus, our findings suggest that the combination of MarLs and carbenicillin can lower the antibiotic requirements to kill the bacteria in preformed biofilms.

RESUMO

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries hold great promise for widespread application on account of their high theoretical energy density (2600 Wh kg-1 ) and the advantages of sulfur. Practical use, however, is impeded by the shuttle effect of polysulfides along with sluggish cathode kinetics. it is reported that such deleterious issues can be overcome by using a composite film (denoted as V-CMP@MWNT) that consists of a conjugated microporous polymer (CMP) embedded with vanadium single-atom catalysts (V SACs) and a network of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). V-CMP@MWNT films are fabricated by first electropolymerizing a bidentate ligand designed to coordinate to V metals on self-standing MWNT films followed by treating the CMP with a solution containing V ions. Li-S cells containing a V-CMP@MWNT film as interlayer exhibit outstanding performance metrics including a high cycling stability (616 mA h g-1 at 0.5 C after 1000 cycles) and rate capability (804 mA h g-1 at 10 C). An extraordinary area-specific capacity of 13.2 mA h cm-2 is also measured at a high sulfur loading of 12.2 mg cm-2 . The underlying mechanism that enables the V SACs to promote cathode kinetics and suppress the shuttle effect is elucidated through a series of electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques.

RESUMO

Carbon materials are widely accepted as promising candidates for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) anodes due to their chemical stability and conductivity, while the capacity is still unsatisfactory. Here, this work reports the superhigh capacity Na storage through initiating fluorine chemistry (CF bonds) in carbon synthesized by the dehydrogenation and fluorination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon such as pitch. Experimental and theoretical investigations uncover that CF bonds exist at the form of dangling bonds (CFx ), which generates the coexistence of graphitic and defective nanodomains. It delivers a superhigh capacity of 450 mAh g-1 , far surpassing most of current SIBs carbon anodes. Theoretical calculation attributes this performance to a new Na storage mechanism that Na can be accommodated in the form of cluster rather than a single ion at each host site with F-doping. This work highlights the significance of carbon material chemistry in establishing the novel ion storage manner in SIBs and other batteries.

RESUMO

The size effect on nanoparticles, which affects the catalysis performance in a significant way, is crucial. The tuning of oxygen vacancies on metal-oxide support can help reduce the size of the particles in active clusters of Pt, thus improving catalysis performance of the supported catalyst. Herein, Ce-Sn solid solutions (CSO) with abundant oxygen vacancies have been synthesized. Activated by simple CO reduction after loading Pt species, the catalytic CO oxidation performance of Pt/CSO was significantly better than that of Pt/CeO2 . The reasons for the elevated activity were further explored regarding ionic Pt single sites being transformed into active Pt clusters after CO reduction. Due to more exposed oxygen vacancies, much smaller Pt clusters were created on CSO (ca. 1.2 nm) than on CeO2 (ca. 1.8 nm). Consequently, more exposed active Pt clusters significantly improved the ability to activate oxygen and directly translated to the higher catalytic oxidation performance of activated Pt/CSO catalysts in vehicle emission control applications.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To establish a parameter-based grading system for evaluating bladder trabeculation (BT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on children diagnosed with posterior urethral valve (PUV) or neurogenic bladder (NB) who underwent voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG), urodynamic testing, and urological ultrasonography between January 2016 and October 2022. Cases involving urologic surgery, secondary bladder pathology, and an interval of more than 12 months between examinations were excluded. A parameter named Bladder Dispersion (BD) was calculated through fluoroscopic images, and the grading system was developed as follows: BD < 40 (Grade 0), 40 ≤ BD < 60 (Grade 1), 60 ≤ BD < 90 (Grade 2), BD ≥ 90 (Grade 3). Grades 0-1 were classified as low-risk group, while grades 2-3 were classified as high-risk group. Analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Chi-square test were performed to compare urodynamic results and complications across different grades and groups. RESULTS: A total of 74 patients were eligible to participate, which included 46 boys (62.2%) and 28 girls (37.8%), the mean age was 75.18 ± 48.39 months. Among them, 11 (14.9%) were PUV, 50 (67.6%) were NB, and 13 (17.5%) were PUV and NB. Significant differences were observed in maximum detrusor pressure, post-void residual urine ratio, and compliance among grades 0-3. Severe hydronephrosis and histories of urinary tract infection were more prevalent in the high-risk group. CONCLUSION: A reliable grading system with objective standards was proposed which could aid in the assessment of BT severity.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Tension pneumomediastinum is a rare and dangerous complication in children that can be fatal, and timely detection and treatment are critical. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and feasibility of computed tomography (CT) imaging-guided parasternal approach drainage for tension pneumomediastinum in children. METHODS: From June 2018 to February 2023, we consecutively enrolled 19 children with tension pneumomediastinum in our institution. A pigtail catheter was inserted into the anterior mediastinum by a CT imaging-guided parasternal approach. The catheter was connected to a negative-pressure water seal bottle to drain the pneumomediastinum. Clinical data and outcomes were summarized. RESULTS: The mean age was 3.1 ± 3.4 years, the mean weight was 15 ± 9.1 kg, the mean procedure time was 11.8 ± 2.4 min, and the drainage time was 6.7 ± 3.4 days. No major complications were identified, such as haemothorax, catheter displacement, or mediastinal infection. Effective drainage was obtained in all patients as assessed by comparing images and ventilatory parameters, and no additional surgical treatment was needed. There was no recurrence during the follow-up, which was more than 2 months. In our data, two children with COVID-19 were discharged from the hospital after effective drainage and other clinical treatment. CONCLUSION: CT-guided parasternal approach drainage is safe, minimally invasive, and effective for children with tension pneumomediastinum.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Patient medication reviews on social networking sites provide valuable insights into the experiences and sentiments of individuals taking specific medications. Understanding the emotional spectrum expressed by patients can shed light on their overall satisfaction with medication treatment. This study aims to explore the emotions expressed by patients taking phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors and their impact on sentiment. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to (1) identify the distribution of 6 Parrot emotions in patient medication reviews across different patient characteristics and PDE5 inhibitors, (2) determine the relative impact of each emotion on the overall sentiment derived from the language expressed in each patient medication review while controlling for different patient characteristics and PDE5 inhibitors, and (3) assess the predictive power of the overall sentiment in explaining patient satisfaction with medication treatment. METHODS: A data set of patient medication reviews for sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil was collected from 3 popular social networking sites such as WebMD, Ask-a-Patient, and Drugs.com. The Parrot emotion model, which categorizes emotions into 6 primary classes (surprise, anger, love, joy, sadness, and fear), was used to analyze the emotional content of the reviews. Logistic regression and sentiment analysis techniques were used to examine the distribution of emotions across different patient characteristics and PDE5 inhibitors and to quantify their contribution to sentiment. RESULTS: The analysis included 3070 patient medication reviews. The most prevalent emotions expressed were joy and sadness, with joy being the most prevalent among positive emotions and sadness being the most prevalent among negative emotions. Emotion distributions varied across patient characteristics and PDE5 inhibitors. Regression analysis revealed that joy had the strongest positive impact on sentiment, while sadness had the most negative impact. The sentiment score derived from patient reviews significantly predicted patient satisfaction with medication treatment, explaining 19% of the variance (increase in R2) when controlling for patient characteristics and PDE5 inhibitors. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides valuable insights into the emotional experiences of patients taking PDE5 inhibitors. The findings highlight the importance of emotions in shaping patient sentiment and satisfaction with medication treatment. Understanding these emotional dynamics can aid health care providers in better addressing patient needs and improving overall patient care.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a serious congenital malformation. Given the focus on improving survival in patients with "high-risk" CDH, it is possible that risk factors for low-risk patient with CDH may not be a concern. Left heart failure leads to adverse postoperative outcomes, including the need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The purpose of this study was to explore the causes of postoperative left heart failure in the low-risk group. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia who were surgically treated in our hospital from January 2018 to March 2022. Children at low risk were divided into three groups according to the intraoperative repair conditions. Group A was defined as grade A defects repaired by direct suture. Group B was defined as a grade B defect repaired by mesh. Group C was a grade B defect repaired by high-tension suture. The age, gender, weight, perioperative echocardiography, and follow-up of the patients were statistically analyzed. The risk factors of left ventricular dysfunction after surgery in neonates with low-risk congenital diaphragmatic hernia were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 52 low-risk children were included in the study. For children in the low-risk group, there was no significant difference between the low-tension repair group and the high-tension repair group in terms of operation time, thoracic tube drainage time, hospital stay, and long-term survival rate. Group A and group B showed good left ventricular function, while group C showed more decreased left ventricular EF and LVFS (LVEF 54.06 ± 10.28, LVFS 26.94 ± 5.83, p < 0.001). On the comparison of measures of left ventricular size, the mean values of left ventricular end-diastolic diameters(LVDD) and left ventricular end-systolic diameters (LVDS) were significantly difference in group C. Univariate analysis showed that LHR, o/e LHR, operation time, and high-tension repair were the influencing factors of left ventricular dysfunction. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified risk factors for high-tension repair. Severe left heart dysfunction occurred in 2 patients with ECMO requirement in the high-tension repair group, although the difference was not significant. CONCLUSIONS: High-tension repair is a potential cause of left ventricular dysfunction in neonates with low-risk CDH.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of single-direction lobectomy for congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM), especially with incomplete pulmonary fissure (IPF). METHODS: A total of 279 patients who underwent thoracoscopic lobectomy in our hospital from January 2019 to January 2022 were analyzed. Fifty-nine children were identified as the single-direction group, and the details of the surgical application are described. The degree of pulmonary fissure completeness was quantified intraoperatively. Propensity score matching was conducted and another 59 patients who underwent conventional lobectomy were matched as the control group. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 4.9 months and the mean body weight was 7.7 kg. For patients with complete pulmonary fissure, there were no statistical differences between two groups in terms of operative time, intraoperative blood loss, length of chest tube, and hospital stay. For patients with IPF, there were statistical differences between the single-direction group and the control group in terms of operative times (89.10 ± 7.97 min vs. 97.41 ± 7.51 min, P < 0.001), intraoperative blood loss (10.86 ± 5.36 mL vs. 14.14 ± 6.56 mL P = 0.042), and postoperative complications (P = 0.035). CONCLUSION: IPF increases the operative difficulty of thoracoscopic lobectomy for CPAM, and the single-direction lobectomy technique is an effective and safe treatment for IPF.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been used successfully in cardiovascular system research to analyze the physiological processes inside vessels. We evaluated the hydraulic information of urine through the lower urinary tract in a patient with posterior urethral valve (PUV) before and after valve ablation by CFD. METHODS: A set of models of the lower urinary tract were developed based on geometrical data obtained by cystoscopy and voiding cystourethrography. Simulated assumptions and conditions were applied according to prior studies and urodynamic results. We used Fluent CFD 19.0 (Ansys Inc., USA) to compute the velocity and pressure of the fluid regions. The simplification of Bernoulli's formula was applied afterward to calculate the hydraulic energy of different positions. RESULTS: The urine flow rates of the NORMALst, the PUVst, and the POSTst at 5000 Pa were 18.08 ml/s, 11.14 ml/s, and 12.16 ml/s, respectively. Precipitous pressure change was observed around the valve in the PUVst, and the abnormal change was concentrated in the dilated urethra in the POSTst. Major energy dissipations were generated around the valve and the dilated urethra in the PUVst. The energy loss that occurred in the dilated urethra did not improve after the operation. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings are probably indicative of the hydrodynamics changes in the dilated urethra in PUV and need to be confirmed through more improved CFD models in the future. CFD may revolutionize pediatric urologists' perception in the management of urinary disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common vascular neoplasm in children. Data on 595 nm pulsed dye lasers for the treatment of PG in children remain scarce. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the clinical characteristics and to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the 595 nm pulsed dye laser for the treatment of PG in children. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case series. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on 212 patients treated for PG with a 595 nm pulsed dye laser. SPSS version 19.0 was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Among all 212 patients treated, 208 showed complete resolution of the lesion, and 4 dropped out after one treatment due to bleeding. A single treatment was sufficient in 139 (66.8%) patients, while two or three treatments were sufficient in 69 (33.2%) patients. Male patients responded better than female patients (χ2 = 7.603, p =0.006). Lesions in the nonorbital region responded better than those in the orbital region (χ2 = 7.445, p =0.006). The size of the lesion affected the effectiveness, and lesions with smaller diameters (t = -5.776, p <0.01) and heights (t = -10.368, p <0.01) showed better results. COMPLICATIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS: Twelve patients (5.8%) were reported to have local complications and side effects, including edematous erythema, slight bleeding, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation. The edematous erythema and slight bleeding disappeared gradually after several days. The localized pigment changes usually resolved spontaneously and disappeared completely after 6 months. CONCLUSIONS: Our experience confirmed the efficacy and safety of the 595 nm pulsed dye laser for the treatment of PG in children.

RESUMO

We performed a single-centre retrospective analysis using data from databases that were prospectively maintained in our centre between January 2019 and September 2021. Patients were divided into two groups based on the degree of pulmonary fissure completeness (PFC), using the fissure development scoring system. Patients with grades 2 or 3 PFC were considered to have incomplete pulmonary fissures and were included in Group A, and patients with grades 0 and 1 were considered to have complete pulmonary fissures and were included in Group B. The differences in demographics, perioperative characteristics and clinic outcomes between the two groups were evaluated. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed. A total of 213 patients with congenital lung malformation (CLM) underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy. There were 30 patients in Group A and 183 patients in Group B. Our data showed that compared with Group B, Group A had a higher incidence of complications, especially Clavien-Dindo grade II and grade III complications. The degree of PFC was significantly correlated with the length of chest tube drainage and postoperative hospital stay. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the degree of PFC could be used to predict the incidence of postoperative complications.ConclusionsThe degree of PFC is a predictor of the incidence of complications after thoracoscopic lobectomy in children with CLM.

RESUMO

Compared with sulfide tailings, the oxidation and transformation of certain substances in oxidized tailings into more soluble forms may affect the bioaccumulation and biomagnification properties and enhance the risk of toxic effects in the ecosystem. This study aimed to apply the generalized additive model (GAM) to evaluate factors affecting heavy metal leaching from nickel (Ni) tailings. We created an orthogonal experiment table (L18(37)) to evenly distribute the different combinations of factor values. The Ni tailings were immersed in solutions with different combinations of factor values for 16 d, and samples were taken on days 1, 2, 4, 7, 11, and 16 to measure the pH and heavy metal concentration of the leachate. The GAM was used to fit the concentration of heavy metals of the leachate and the initial factors of the leaching solution. The results showed that the pH and Cr concentration of the leachate increased with time and stabilized after 1 d (pH of approximately 7), while the Mn, Ni, and Tl concentrations gradually decreased and stabilized after peaking on the first day. An analysis of the GAM results showed that the Cr concentration was highly sensitive to the solid-liquid ratio (F = 127.8) and tailing particle size (F = 10.7). The Cr concentration of the leachate was significantly higher when exposed to a high solid-liquid ratio or a fine particle size, whereas the Mn, Ni, and Tl concentrations were highly sensitive to the KCl concentration and solid-liquid ratio (F = 77.4, 146.9, and 315.9 respectively). The GAM identified interactions between key factors, which have complex and strong effects on the leaching of tailings and the migration of heavy metals, either promotional or antagonistic. The prediction of the minimum Cr leaching concentration shows that GAM can be used to determine the conditions associated with minimum leaching concentrations of heavy metals and to effectively predict the metal concentrations of leachate. As such, the results of this study can be applied to the management of nickel tailings.

RESUMO

The heterogeneity in biofilms is a major challenge in biofilm therapies due to different susceptibility of bacteria and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) to antibacterial agents. Here, we describe a therapeutic strategy that overcame biofilm heterogeneity, where antibacterial agent (NO) and EPS dispersant (reactive oxygen species (ROS)-inducing Fe3+ ) were separately loaded in the yolk and shell compartment of a yolk-shell nanoplatform. Compared with traditional combinational chemotherapies which suffer from inconsistent pharmacokinetics profiles, this strategy drew on the pharmacokinetic complementarity of ROS and NO, where ROS with a short diffusion distance and a high redox potential corrupted the EPS, facilitating NO, which has a long diffusion distance and a broad antimicrobial spectrum, to penetrate the biofilm and eliminate the resident bacteria. Additionally, the construction of a three-dimensional spherical biofilm model is novel and clinically relevant.

RESUMO

The design of efficient non-noble metal catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to fuels and chemicals is desired yet remains a challenge. Herein, we report that single Mo atoms with a MoN3 (pyrrolic) moiety enable remarkable CO2 adsorption and hydrogenation to CO, as predicted by density functional theory studies and evidenced by a high and stable conversion of CO2 reaching about 30.4 % with a CO selectivity of almost 100 % at 500 °C and very low H2 partial pressure. Atomically dispersed MoN3 is calculated to facilitate CO2 activation and reduces CO2 to CO* via the direct dissociation path. Furthermore, the highest transition state energy in CO formation is 0.82 eV, which is substantially lower than that of CH4 formation (2.16 eV) and accounts for the dominant yield of CO. The enhanced catalytic performances of Mo/NC originate from facile CO desorption with the help of dispersed Mo on nitrogen-doped carbon (Mo/NC), and in the absence of Mo nanoparticles. The resulting catalyst preserves good stability without degradation of CO2 conversion rate even after 68 hours of continuous reaction. This finding provides a promising route for the construction of highly active, selective, and robust single-atom non-precious metal catalysts for reverse water-gas shift reaction.
