Objective To evaluate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in differential diagnosis between the adult reversible splenial lesion syndrome (RESLES) and ischemic infarction of the splenium of the corpus callosum (SCC). Methods The MRI findings and clinical data of 7 RESLES patients and 13 patients with ischemic infarction of SCC who were clinically diagnosed and treated in our center from May 2015 to June 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. The main MRI findings included location,morphology,signal intensity,maximum cross-sectional area,diffusion weighted imaging (DWI),and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value. Results On the MRI findings of 7 RESLES patients (5 males and 2 females),the centers of all lesions of the SCC were located in the midline of SCC,the lesion shapes were round,ellipse,or spindle,and the distribution of the lesions was bilateral and symmetric as the center of the midline of SCC. The lesions were hyperintense on DWI,and the mean maximum cross-sectional area of lesions was (56.9±32.6) mm2 and the mean ADC value was (0.3963±0.0715) ×10-3 mm2/s. On the review MRI,all the lesions disappeared (mean interval:10 days). On the MRI findings of 13 patients with ischemic infarction of SCC (10 males and 3 females),the lesions were irregular or patchy in shape and were almost laterally and asymmetrically distributed. The lesions were hyperintense on DWI,and the mean maximum cross-sectional area was (55.1±43.9) mm2 and the mean ADC value was (0.4978±0.0123) ×10-3 mm2/s. The mean maximum cross-sectional area (t=0.096,P=0.925) and the ADC value (t=-1.988,P=0.062) were not significantly different between RESLES group and ischemic infarction of SCC group. Conclusions The location,morphology,and distribution of the SCC lesions and the co-existence of other lesions in the brain are helpful for the differential diagnosis between RESLES and ischemic infarction of SCC. However,the mean maximum cross-sectional area and the ADC value show no obvious difference between these two diseases.

Copper (Cu) contamination is serious in China, with ≤2.76 mg/L in some waters. Exposure to Cu causes a high toxicity to the aquatic organisms and subsequent ecological risk. To understand fish responses to Cu exposure, we analyzed the metabonomic changes in multiple tissues (gill, liver, and muscle) of Cyprinus flammans using an nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabonomic technique. Our results showed that metabolic alterations are dose-dependent. No significant metabolic alterations in three tissues of fish are caused by 0.25 mg/L Cu. However, 1.53 mg/L Cu caused changes of energy-related metabolites and amino acids, which we suggest are due to enhanced metabolic acidosis in gill and muscle, decreased tricarboxylic acid cycle activity in muscle, increased gluconeogenesis from amino acids in liver, and improved glycogenesis in liver and muscle. The Cori cycle between liver and muscle is concurrently triggered. Furthermore, high concentration of Cu resulted in the alteration of choline metabolism such that we hypothesize that Cu induces membrane damage and detoxification of CuSO4 in gill as well as altered osmoregulation in all three tissues. Choline-O-sulfate in gill may be used as a biomarker to provide an early warning of Cu exposure in C. flammans. Moreover, Cu exposure caused alterations of nucleoside and nucleotide metabolism in both gill and muscle. These findings provide a new insight into the metabolic effects of Cu exposure on C. flammans and highlight the value of metabonomics in the study of metabolic metal disturbance in fish.

At the regional scale, substrate properties are the key factors driving litter decomposition rate. In this study, soil temperature was increased by buried heating cables to explore the impacts of climate warming on the physical and chemical properties in branch and leaf of Cunninghamia lanceolata litter. The results showed that after 5 years of soil warming (4 ℃), the contents of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and water-soluble substance in branch litter increased by 35.2%, 40.8% and 7.6%, while that in leaf litter increased by 41.2%, 45.9% and 5.9%, respectively. The contents of carbon (C), cellulose and C/N in branch litter decreased by 5.1%, 11.6% and 28.8%, and in leaf litter decreased by 5.3%, 11.3% and 33.3%, respectively. Soil warming led to 29.8% increase in specific leaf area (SLA) and 40.7% decrease in tensile strength (LTS) of leaf litter. However, warming did not affect lignin content and pH value in both branch and leaf litter. 13C NMR and infrared spectrum analysis showed that the contents of amino acids, polysaccharides, polyphenols and aliphatic compounds in litter changed significantly after warming. Warming effect differed between litter organs, in that polysaccharides increased significantly only in leaf litter and the increase of amino acids in branch litter was greater than that in leaf litter. Overall, soil warming significantly changed the physical and chemical properties in C. lanceolata branch and leaf litter, which might accelerate the decomposition rate at the initial stage due to the increase of N, P contents and the decrease of LTS, but might decelerate the decomposition rate at the later stage due to an increase of complex polymers content in the litter.

Ox-LDL-induced endothelial cells injury has been reported to play an important role in the development of atherosclerosis (AS). MicroRNAs have been identified to regulate their target genes post-transcriptionally and they are able to participate in the various diseases, including AS. However, the role of miR-410 in ox-LDL-triggered abnormal function of endothelial cells remains to be elaborated. Hence, our current study was to find out the underlying mechanism of miR-410 in AS. Here, we observed that ox-LDL can inhibit HUVECs growth and lead to a great cell apoptosis both dose-dependently and time-dependently. Meanwhile, it was exhibited that miR-410 expression was remarkably elevated in ox-LDL-indicated HUVECs. miR-410 knockdown was able to induce cell proliferation and alleviate HUVECs apoptosis subjected to ox-LDL. Reversely, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) expression was greatly decreased in ox-LDL-incubated HUVECs in a time and dose dependent manner. Additionally, these findings exhibited that STAT3 was a target of miR-410, which was validated by a dual-luciferase assay in our study. Additionally, we observed that overexpression of STAT3 rescued ox-LDL induced AS events in vitro. Taken these together, our current study implied that miR-410 silence can inhibit the ox-LDL-induced HUVECs proliferation and rescue cell apoptosis through activating STAT3 in vitro.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of anti-inflammation for MSCs transplantation in rat models of myocardial infarction. Rats with AMI induced by occlusion of the left coronary artery were randomized to MSCs transplantation group, MI group and sham operated group. The effects of MSCs transplantation on cardiac inflammation and left ventricular remodeling in non-infarcted zone were observed after 4 weeks of MI. We found that MSC transplantation (1) decreased protein production and gene expression of inflammation cytokines TNF-alpha, IL-1beta and IL-6, (2) inhibited deposition of type I and III collagen, as well as gene and protein expression of MMP-1 and TIMP-1, (3) attenuated LV cavitary dilation and transmural infarct thinning, thus prevent myocardial remodeling after myocardial infarction, and (4) increased EF, FS, LVESP and dp/dtmax (P < 0.01), decreased LVDd, LVEDV, LVEDP (P < 0.05). Anti-inflammation role for MSCs transplantation might partly account for the cardiac protective effect in ischemic heart disease.

OBJECTIVE: To study the correlation of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measured by diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the molecular subtypes and biological prognostic factors of invasive breast cancer masses. METHODS: Breast MRI data (including dynamic enhanced and diffusion-weighted imaging) were collected from 64 patients with pathologically confirmed invasive breast cancer masses (a total of 69 lesions). The mean ADC values of the lesions were calculated and their correlations were analyzed with the 5 molecular subtypes of invasive breast cancer and the biological prognostic factors including estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2), and Ki-67 index. RESULTS: The ADC values did not differ significantly among the 5 molecular subtypes of invasive breast cancer masses (P>0.05) or among lesions with different ER, PR, or HER2 status (P>0.05). The mean ADC values were significantly higher in Ki-67-positive lesions than in the negative lesions (P=0.023 and negatively correlated with the expressions of Ki-67 (r=-0.249). CONCLUSION: ADC value can not be used to identify the molecular subtypes of invasive breast cancer masses or to evaluate the biological prognosis of the lesions, but its correlation with Ki-67 expression may help in prognostic evaluation and guiding clinical therapy of the tumors.
