RESUMO

Organic single crystals possess distinct advantages due to their highly ordered molecular structures, resulting in improved stability, enhanced carrier mobility, and superior optical characteristics. However, their mechanical rigidity and brittleness impede the applications in flexible and wearable optoelectronic devices. Here, photoluminescence (PL) emission from 2,6-diphenylanthracene (DPA) single crystals is studied under tensile strain, which shows PL enhancement by more than two times with a strain of ≈1.42%. Such a tension induced PL enhancement is reversible, exhibiting no clear optical degradations during 100 cycles of bending and recovery processes. Theoretical calculations reveal that the deformation of molecular structure under strain induces a decrease of the dihedral between anthracene and benzene moieties in DPA molecules. Further, the increased molecular conjugation enhances the molecular oscillator strength, leading to the brightened PL emission. Meanwhile, with the decreased dihedral, the molecular vibrations in DPA crystals are suppressed, which can reduce the non-radiative decay rate. In contrast, no tension induced PL enhancement is observed in polycrystalline DPA thin films as the strain can be released via the grain boundaries. This study highlights the superior optical performance of DPA single crystals under strain field, which will provide new possibilities for DPA-based flexible devices.

RESUMO

This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computer tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma (MM). Fifty-one consecutive patients with relapsed MM were enrolled in this retrospective study. 18F-FDG parameters based on the Italian Myeloma Criteria for PET Use (IMPeTUs) and clinical data were analyzed for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The Cox proportional risk model was used for univariate and multivariate analysis, and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used for survival analysis. The median length of follow-up was 20 months (IQR, 5-29 months), the median PFS for the entire cohort was 8 months (IQR, 3-17 months) and the median OS was 21 months (IQR, 8-49 months). Multivariate survival analysis demonstrated that the Deauville score of BM > 3 [HR 2.900, 95% CI (1.011, 8.319), P = 0.048] and the presence of EMD [HR 3.134, 95% CI (1.245, 7.891), P = 0.015] were independent predictors of poor PFS. The presence of EMD [HR 12.777, 95% CI (1.825, 89.461), P = 0.010] and the reduced platelets count [HR 7.948, 95% CI (1.236, 51.099), P = 0.029] were adversely associated with OS. 18F-FDG PET/CT parameters based on IMPeTUs have prognostic significance in patients with relapsed MM.

RESUMO

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd) is widely regarded as a versatile pseudo-cereal native to the Andes Mountains in South America. It has gained global recognition as a superfood due to its rich nutritional profile. While quinoa grains are well-known, there is an undiscovered potential in quinoa greens, such as sprouts, leaves, and microgreens. These verdant parts of quinoa are rich in a diverse array of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds, including proteins, amino acids, bioactive proteins, peptides, polyphenols, and flavonoids. They have powerful antioxidant properties, combat cancer, and help prevent diabetes. Quinoa greens offer comparable or even superior benefits when compared to other sprouts and leafy greens, yet they have not gained widespread recognition. Limited research exists on the nutritional composition and biological activities of quinoa greens, underscoring the necessity for thorough systematic reviews in this field. This review paper aims to highlight the nutritional value, bioactivity, and health potential of quinoa greens, as well as explore their possibilities within the food sector. The goal is to generate interest within the research community and promote further exploration and wider utilization of quinoa greens in diets. This focus may lead to new opportunities for enhancing health and well-being through innovative dietary approaches.

RESUMO

In this paper, a liquid crystal-modulated metastructure sensor (MS) is proposed that can detect the refractive index (RI) of a liquid and change the detection range under different applied voltages. The regulation of the detection range is based on the different bias states of the liquid crystal at different voltages. By changing the sample in the cavity that is to be detected, the overall electromagnetic characteristics of the device in the resonant state are modified, thus changing the position of the absorption peaks so that different RI correspond to different absorption peaks, and finally realizing the sensing detection. The refractive index unit is denoted as RIU. The range of the refractive index detection is 1.414-2.828 and 2.121-3.464, and the corresponding absorption peak variation range is 0.8485-1.028 THz and 0.7295-0.8328 THz, with a sensitivity of 123.8 GHz/RIU and 75.6 GHz/RIU, respectively. In addition, an approach to optimizing resonant absorption peaks is explored, which can suppress unwanted absorption generated during the design process by analyzing the energy distribution and directing the current flow on the substrate. Four variables that have a more obvious impact on performance are listed, and the selection and change trend of the numerical values are focused on, fully considering the errors that may be caused by manufacturing and actual use. At the same time, the incident angle and polarization angle are also included in the considered range, and the device shows good stability at these angles. Finally, the influence of the number of resonant rings on the sensing performance is also discussed, and its conclusion has guiding value for optimizing the sensing demand. This new liquid crystal-modulated MS has the advantages of a small size and high sensitivity and is expected to be used for bio-detection, sensing, and so on. All results in this work were obtained with the aid of simulations based on the finite element method.

RESUMO

The material removal rate (MRR) is an important variable but difficult to measure in the chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) process. Most data-based virtual metrology (VM) methods ignore the large number of unlabeled samples, resulting in a waste of information. In this paper, the semi-supervised deep kernel active learning (SSDKAL) model is proposed. Clustering-based phase partition and phase-matching algorithms are used for the initial feature extraction, and a deep network is used to replace the kernel of Gaussian process regression so as to extract hidden deep features. Semi-supervised regression and active learning sample selection strategies are applied to make full use of information on the unlabeled samples. The experimental results of the CMP process dataset validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Compared with supervised regression and co-training-based semi-supervised regression algorithms, the proposed model has a lower mean square error with different labeled sample proportions. Compared with other frameworks proposed in the literature, such as physics-based VM models, Gaussian-process-based regression models, and stacking models, the proposed method achieves better prediction results without using all the labeled samples.

RESUMO

Removal of trace impurities for natural gas purification coupled with waste gas conversion is highly desired in industry. We here report a type of porous ionic liquids (PILs) that can realize the continuous flow separation of CH4 /CO2 /H2 S and the conversion of the captured H2 S to useful products. The PILs are synthesized through a step-by-step surface modification of ionic liquids (ILs) onto UiO-66-OH nanocrystals. The introduction of free tertiary amine groups on the nanocrystal surface endows these PILs with an exceptional ability to enrich H2 S from CO2 and CH4 with impressive selectivity, while the permanent pores of UiO-66-OH act as containers to store an exceptionally higher amount of the selectively captured H2 S than the corresponding nonporous ILs. Simultaneously, the tertiary amines as dual functional moieties offer effective catalytic sites for the conversion of the H2 S stored in PILs into 3-mercaptoisobutyric acid, a key intermediate required for the synthesis of Captopril (an antihypertensive drug). Molecular dynamics, density functional theory calculations and Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations help understand both the mechanisms of separation and catalysis performance, confirming that the tertiary amines as well as the permanent pores in UiO-66-OH play vital roles in the whole procedure.

RESUMO

A dual-model hybrid pattern recognition based on a fiber optic line-based sensor with a large amount of data is proposed. The vibration signals are converted to gray-level images to reduce the memory requirement. The ResNet18 model for classification is used. To reduce the false positive rate, the over-zero rate and short-time energy are extracted from the intrusion signal, and a support vector machine (SVM) is used. Finally, a discriminator is constructed to determine the types of events by combining the two models trained on the validation dataset. The results demonstrate the excellent average recognition accuracy of this method, which achieves the 97.1% for six events.

RESUMO

The photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) provides an attractive approach to tackling environmental issues. To actualize the optimal catalytic efficiency, one efficacious strategy is to rationally modulate the charge migration for the adopted heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, by virtue of a one-step hydrothermal method, Cu2S nanospheres and defect-rich Cu2S (CuSx) nanosheets are wrapped by a triazine-containing covalent framework (TP-TA COF), resulting in CuSx/TP-TA and Cu2S/TP-TA. Owing to the heterojunction construction that suppresses the carrier recombination, both hybridized structures present enhanced charge migration in comparison to that of their corresponding sulfides and COF constituents. It is worth emphasizing that CuSx/TP-TA proffers a significantly greater photocurrent than Cu2S/TP-TA. The subsequent photocatalytic reduction of CO2 also exhibits an apparently higher CO evolution rate, about 2.8 times higher than the Cu2S/TP-TA photocatalyst. The above evident improvement owes much to the heterostructure establishment between CuSx and TP-TA COF, as well as the synergistic effect provided by the defect engineering for CuSx, both of which are able to enhance the separation efficiency of photoinduced carriers. Our work sheds light on the rational construction of heterogeneous structures between organic and inorganic photocatalysts, which emphasizes the possible synergistic effect of defect centers for enhancing photocatalytic performance.

RESUMO

In this study, a graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) based ternary catalyst CuO/CuFe2O4/g-C3N4 (CCCN) is successfully prepared thorough calcination method. After confirming the structure and composition of CCCN, the as-synthesized composites are utilized to activate persulfate (PS) for the degradation of organic contaminant. While using tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) as pollutant surrogate, the effects of initial pH, PS and catalyst concentration on the degradation rate are systematically studied. Under the optimized reaction condition, CCCN/PS is able to give 99% degradation extent and 74% chemical oxygen demand removal in assistance of simulated solar light, both of which are apparently greater than that of either CuO/CuFe2O4 and pristine g-C3N4. The great improvement in degradation can be assignable to the effective separation of photoinduced carriers thanks to the integration between CuO/CuFe2O4 and g-C3N4, as well as the increased reaction sites given by the g-C3N4 substrate. Moreover, the scavenging trials imply that the major oxidative matters involved in the decomposition are hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radicals (•O2-) and photo-induced holes (h+).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is a rare autoimmune disorder of neuromuscular transmission. The objective was to examine the efficacy and safety of 3,4-diaminopyridine (3,4-DAP) in patients with LEMS. METHODS: We searched several databases to identify relevant studies, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, MEDLINE, Cochrane Neuromuscular Disease Group Specialized Register and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials(CENTRAL). The primary outcome, quantitative myasthenia gravis (QMG) score and the secondary outcome, compound muscle action potentials (CMAP) amplitude were pooled by meta-analysis. RESULTS: Six randomised controlled trials (RCTs) involving 115 patients with LEMS were included. QMG score showed a significant decrease (improvement) of 2.76 points (95 % CI, -4.08 to -1.45, p < 0.001) after treatment with 3, 4-DAP. Moreover, the overall mean CMAP amplitude improved significantly in LEMS patients with 3, 4-DAP treatment, compared with placebo treatment (mean difference 1.34 mV, 95 % CI, 0.98 to 1.70, p < 0.001). The overall assessment of all included trials showed a low risk of bias and low heterogeneity. CONCLUSIONS: The pooled results of RCTs demonsrated with moderate to high evidence that 3,4-DAP has a significant effect on LEMS treatment, with improvements in muscle strength score and CMAP amplitude.

RESUMO

We propose a practical secure key generation and distribution (SKGD) scheme for actual application. Based on the experiment results of the polarization properties of the actual optical-fiber link, we propose a SKGD method by the active modulation of the state of polarization of the optical-fiber by two polarization scramblers placed at the local end of the legal users in the point-to-point communication system. Experiment results prove that the signals received by legal users share high correlation using 20 km standard single-mode fiber and 1 KHz polarization scrambling rate, and the bit generation rate can reach to 1216 bit/s with a bit error rate of ∼0.33%. Security of the system is also analyzed in terms of the polarization properties of the system; the theoretical and experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme possesses high security due to the invisibility of the key signal and the technical difficulty of the recovery of the key sequence.

RESUMO

A novel distributed fiber-optic sensor is proposed and demonstrated, in which two Mach-Zehnder interferometers are used to detect the interference signals with different wavelengths, and one 3 × 3 coupler is deployed to demodulate the time-varying phase change caused by vibration. The novel dual Mach-Zehnder interferometer (DMZI) is composed of two wavelength division multiplexers. Then, a time delay estimation algorithm is designed to construct two related signals using the phase difference, and the two constructed signals are used to obtain vibration position through cross-correlation. Experimental results show that the sensing distance can reach 100 km and the location error is within ±25 m.

RESUMO

An ultra-sensitive fiber optic sensor based on a HO(Me2SiO)nH (silicone rubber) Fabry-Pérot (FP) resonant cavity is fabricated through a simple method of dipping, which has high linearity, high sensitivity, and a wide response range to temperature. The silicone rubber can form a smooth sphere without wire drawing, and it has strong heat resistance and aging resistance. Its favorable waterproof performance enables it to work efficiently in different humid environments. A method of synchronizing the detection and wavelength sweeping signal is applied to analyze the wavelength shifts of the interference signal. The sensitivity of the fabricated FP sensor is almost 400 pm/°C in the range of 50-190°C with a linearity of 0.999, and the resolution is 0.002 nm. In addition, the testing results at room temperature can also satisfy the linear relationship, providing the possibility of applications in the biological field.

RESUMO

An integrated sensor via overlapping a micro Fabry-Perot (MFP) cavity with a micro-channel on a regenerated fiber Bragg grating (RFBG) is constructed for dual-parameter sensing of temperature, strain, and gas pressure under a high temperature (600°C). The MFP is fabricated by using a 157 nm micro-machining on H2-loaded bendinsensitive fiber. A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is inscribed at the same position of the MFP using 248 nm laser exposure, and then successfully regenerated after a required annealing process which enhances the strain sensitivity of MFP more than three times. The micro-channel created on the MFP is used to improve gas pressure sensitivity of the MFP nearly 100 times. Since the MFP and RFBG have different sensitivities to gas pressure, strain, and temperature, the sensor head could be used to perform dual-parameter measurement by simultaneous measurement of high temperature and strain, and high temperature and gas pressure.

RESUMO

Mobile colloids can act as carriers for low-solubility contaminants in the environment. However, the dominant mechanism for this colloid-facilitated transport of chemicals is unclear. Therefore, we developed a bead-based microfluidic platform of sediment analogues and measured both single and population transport of model colloids. The porous medium is assembled through a bead-by-bead injection method. This approach has the versatility to build both electrostatically homogeneous and heterogeneous media at the pore scale. A T-junction at the exit also allowed for encapsulation and enumeration of colloids effluent at single particle resolution to give population dynamics. Tortuosity calculated from pore-scale trajectory analysis and its comparison with lattice Boltzmann simulations revealed that transport of colloids was influenced by the size exclusion effect. The porous media packed by positively and negatively charged beads into two layers showed distinctive colloidal particle retention and significant remobilization and re-adsorption of particles during water flushing. We demonstrated the potential of our method to fabricate porous media with surface heterogeneities at the pore scale. With both single and population dynamics measurement, our platform has the potential to connect pore-scale and macroscale colloid transport on a lab scale and to quantify the impact of grain surface heterogeneities that are natural in the subsurface environment.

RESUMO

Mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) protects dopaminergic neurons from damage. In this study, we used MTT, immunohistochemistry, and TUNEL staining to investigate the protective effect of MANF in SH-SY5Y cells treated with 6-OHDA or overexpressed α-synuclein. Cleaved caspase-3 levels significantly increased in cells treated with 6-OHDA or overexpressed α-synuclein. 6-OHDA or α-synuclein overexpression that induced cleaved caspase-3 levels to increase was reduced by MANF treatment. In addition, MANF treatment upregulated GRP78 expressions in cells treated with 6-OHDA or overexpressed α-synuclein, and RNAi knockdown for GRP78 could block the MANF induced cell survival from 6-OHDA treatment. Furthermore, GRP78 overexpression inhibited 6-OHDA-induced apoptosis. Our data suggest that MANF inhibits apoptosis induced by 6-OHDA and overexpressed α-synuclein in SH-SY5Y cells via upregulating GRP78 in the transcriptional pattern.

RESUMO

There have been only a few antigen genes of Eimeria brunetti reported up to now. In this study, the gene encoding the microneme protein 2 (EbMIC2) was isolated from oocysts of E. brunetti by RT-PCR and the immunogenicity of recombinant EbMIC2 was observed. The EbMIC2 was cloned into vector pMD19-T for sequencing. The sequence was compared with the published EbMIC2 gene from GenBank revealed homology of the nucleotide sequence and amino acids sequence were 99.43 and 98.63%, respectively. The correct recombinant pMD-EbMIC2 plasmid was inserted into the pET-28a (+) expressing vector and transformed into competent Escherichia coli BL21 cells for expression. The expressed product was analyzed using SDS-PAGE and Western-blot. The results indicated that the recombinant EbMIC2 protein was recognized strongly by serum from naturally infected chicken with E. brunetti. Rat rcEbMIC2 antisera bound to bands of about 36 kDa in the somatic extract of E. brunetti sporozoites. The recombinant plasmid pVAX1-EbMIC2 was constructed and then the efficacies of recombinant plasmid and recombinant protein were evaluated. The results of IgG antibody level and cytokines concentration suggested that recombinant EbMIC2 could increase the IgG antibody level and induce the expressions of cytokines. Animal challenge experiments demonstrated that the recombinant EbMIC2 protein and recombinant plasmid pVAX1-EbMIC2 could significantly increase the average body weight gains, decrease the mean lesion scores and the oocyst outputs of the immunized chickens and presented high anti-coccidial index. All results suggested that EbMIC2 could become an effective candidate for the development of new vaccine against E. brunetti infection.

RESUMO

In the present study, the immune protective effects of recombinant microneme protein 7 of Eimeria maxima (rEmMIC7) and a DNA vaccine encoding this antigen (pVAX1-EmMIC7) on experimental challenge were evaluated. Two-week-old chickens were randomly divided into five groups. Experimental groups of chickens were immunized with 100 µg DNA vaccine pVAX1-MIC7 or 200 µg rEmMIC7, while control groups of chickens were injected with pVAX1 plasmid or sterile phosphate buffered saline (PBS). The results showed that the anti-EmMIC7 antibody titres in chickens of both rEmMIC7 and pVAX1-MIC7 groups were significantly higher as compared to PBS and pVAX1 control (P < .05). The splenocytes from both vaccinated groups of chickens displayed significantly greater proliferation response compared with the controls (P < .05). Serum from chickens immunized with pVAX1-MIC7 and rEmMIC7 displayed significantly high levels of interleukin-2, interferon-γ, IL-10, IL-17, tumour growth factor-ß and IL-4 (P < .05) compared to those of negative controls. The challenge experiment results showed that both the recombinant antigen and the DNA vaccine could obviously alleviate jejunum lesions, body weight loss and enhance oocyst decrease ratio. The anti-coccidial index (ACI) of the pVAX1-MIC7 group was 167.84, higher than that of the recombinant MIC7 protein group, 167.10. Our data suggested that immunization with EmMIC7 was effective in imparting partial protection against E. maxima challenge in chickens and it could be an effective antigen candidate for the development of new vaccines against E. maxima.

RESUMO

MxCo3-xO4 co-catalysed photoanodes with high potential for improvement in PEC water-oxidizing properties are reported. However, it is difficult to control the recombination of photogenerated carriers at the interface between the catalyst and cocatalyst. Here, an ultra-thin MgO passivation layer was introduced into the MxCo3-xO4/BiVO4 coupling system to construct a ternary composite photoanode Co2AlO4/MgO/BiVO4. The photocurrent density of the electrode is 3.52 mA cm-2, which is 3.2 times that of BiVO4 (at 1.23 V vs. RHE). The photocurrent is practically increased by 0.86 mA cm-2 and 1.56 mA cm-2 in comparison with that of Co2AlO4/BiVO4 and MgO/BiVO4 electrodes, respectively. Meanwhile, the Co2AlO4/MgO/BiVO4 electrode has the highest charge separation efficiency, the lowest charge transfer resistance (Rct) and best stability. The excellent PEC performance could be attributed to the inhibitive effect provided by the MgO passivation layer that efficaciously suppresses the electron-hole recombination at the interface and drives the hole transfer outward, which is induced by Co2AlO4 to capture the electrode/electrolyte interface for efficient water oxidation reaction. In order to understand the origin of this improvement, first-principles calculations with density functional theory (DFT) were performed. The theoretical investigation converges to our experimental results. This work proposes a novel idea for restraining the recombination of photogenerated carriers between interfaces and the rational design of efficient photoanodes.
