BACKGROUND: Nocturnal blood pressure (BP) is an independent risk factor of cardiovascular events. The NOCTURNE study, a multicenter, randomized controlled trial (RCT) using our recently developed information and communication technology (ICT) nocturnal home BP monitoring (HBPM) device, was performed to compare the nocturnal HBP-lowering effects of differential ARB-based combination therapies in 411 Japanese patients with nocturnal hypertension (HT).Methods and Results:Patients with nocturnal BP ≥120/70 mmHg at baseline even under ARB therapy (100 mg irbesartan daily) were enrolled. The ARB/CCB combination therapy (irbesartan 100 mg+amlodipine 5 mg) achieved a significantly greater reduction in nocturnal home systolic BP (primary endpoint) than the ARB/diuretic combination (daily irbesartan 100 mg+trichlormethiazide 1 mg) (-14.4 vs. -10.5 mmHg, P<0.0001), independently of urinary sodium excretion and/or nocturnal BP dipping status. However, the change in nocturnal home systolic BP was comparable among the post-hoc subgroups with higher salt sensitivity (diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and elderly patients). CONCLUSIONS: This is the first RCT demonstrating the feasibility of clinical assessment of nocturnal BP by ICT-nocturnal HBPM. The ARB/CCB combination was shown to be superior to ARB/diuretic in patients with uncontrolled nocturnal HT independently of sodium intake, despite the similar impact of the 2 combinations in patients with higher salt sensitivity.

Excessive salt intake is one of the causes of hypertension, and reducing salt intake is important for managing the risk of hypertension and subsequent cardiovascular events. Esaxerenone, a mineralocorticoid receptor blocker, has the potential to exert an antihypertensive effect in hypertensive patients with excessive salt intake, but evidence is still lacking, especially in clinical settings. We aimed to determine if baseline sodium/potassium ratio and baseline estimated 24-h urinary sodium excretion can predict the antihypertensive effect of esaxerenone in patients with essential hypertension inadequately controlled with an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) or a calcium channel blocker (CCB). This was an exploratory, open-label, interventional study with a 4-week observation period and a 12-week treatment period. Esaxerenone was orally administered once daily in accordance with the Japanese package insert. In total, 126 patients met the eligibility criteria and were enrolled (ARB subcohort, 67; CCB subcohort, 59); all were included in the full analysis set (FAS) and safety analysis. In the FAS, morning home systolic blood pressure (SBP)/diastolic blood pressure (DBP) significantly decreased from baseline to end of treatment (primary efficacy endpoint) (-11.9 ± 10.9/ - 6.4 ± 6.8 mmHg, both p < 0.001); a similar trend was observed in both subcohorts. Significant reductions were also shown in bedtime home and office SBP/DBP (all p < 0.001). Each BP change was consistent regardless of the urinary sodium/potassium ratio or estimated 24-h urinary sodium excretion at baseline. The urinary albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) significantly decreased from baseline to Week 12 in the total population and both subcohorts. No new safety concerns were raised. Esaxerenone significantly decreased morning home, bedtime home, and office BP; UACR; and NT-proBNP in this patient population, regardless of concomitant ARB or CCB use. The antihypertensive effect of esaxerenone was independent of the urinary sodium/potassium ratio and estimated 24-h urinary sodium excretion at baseline.

There is limited evidence on the blood pressure (BP)-lowering effect of esaxerenone on home BP, including nighttime BP. Using two newly developed nocturnal home BP monitoring devices (brachial and wrist), this multicenter, open-label, prospective study investigated the nighttime home BP-lowering effect of esaxerenone in patients with uncontrolled nocturnal hypertension being treated with an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) or calcium-channel blocker (CCB). In total, 101 patients were enrolled. During the 12-week study period, change in nighttime home systolic/diastolic BP from baseline to end of treatment measured by the brachial device was -12.9/-5.4 mmHg in the total population and -16.2/-6.6 and -10.0/-4.4 mmHg in the ARB and CCB subcohorts, respectively (all p < 0.001). For the wrist device, the change was -11.7/-5.4 mmHg in the total population and -14.6/-6.2 and -8.3/-4.5 mmHg in each subcohort, respectively (all p < 0.001). Similar significant reductions were shown for morning and bedtime home BP and office BP. Urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and cardio-ankle vascular index improved in the total population and each subcohort. Incidences of treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and drug-related TEAEs were 38.6% and 16.8%, respectively; most were mild or moderate. The most frequent drug-related TEAEs were associated with serum potassium elevation (hyperkalemia, 9.9%; blood potassium increased, 3.0%); however, no new safety concerns were raised. Esaxerenone was effective in lowering nighttime home BP as well as morning and bedtime home BP and office BP, safe, and showed organ-protective effects in patients with uncontrolled nocturnal hypertension. Caution is warranted regarding elevated serum potassium levels. This study investigated the effect of esaxerenone on nighttime home BP and organ damage (UACR and NT-proBNP) in patients with uncontrolled nocturnal hypertension despite treatment with an ARB or CCB. Our results show that safe 24-h BP control and organ protection are possible with esaxerenone.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic mucosal resection using a cap-fitted panendoscope (EMRC) and an endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) are increasingly performed to treat superficial esophageal carcinoma (SEC). As an endoscopic procedure appropriate for en bloc complete resection, ESD requires a much higher level of skill and experience than EMRC. METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed 127 SECs in 112 patients treated by EMRC or ESD from January 1997 to September 2009. RESULTS: For lesions 10 mm in diameter or smaller, EMRC and ESD had equivalent en bloc resection rates with tumor-free margins (en bloc + R0 resection rates). For lesions 11 mm in diameter or larger, however, the rate was significantly higher in the ESD group than in the EMRC group (p < 0.01). The mean procedure time was significantly longer in the ESD group than in the EMRC group (p < 0.01) regardless of lesion size. No significant difference was found in esophageal perforation rate between the EMRC and ESD groups. Severe esophageal stricture developed after EMRC of eight lesions (14.3%) and after ESD of six lesions (8.5%). For patients with a mucosal defect involving more than three-fourths of the esophageal circumference, the incidence of severe esophageal stricture after procedure was significantly higher in the EMRC group than in the ESD group (p < 0.05). The overall local recurrence rate was 3.1% (4/127) during an average follow-up period of 39 months (range, 8-123 months). All local recurrences were detected as superficial cancers after EMRC and then treated endoscopically. CONCLUSIONS: For lesions 10 mm in diameter or smaller, EMRC was found to be optimal. For lesions 11 mm in diameter or larger, however, ESD was superior to EMRC in efficacy as assessed by the en bloc + R0 resection rate. Furthermore, ESD was advantageous in preventing stricture formation. The operating endoscopist should carefully select EMRC or ESD according to lesion size.

INTRODUCTION: About one-third of patients with severe ulcerative colitis (UC) do not respond to corticosteroid therapy and receive rescue therapy with infliximab or cyclosporine. Up to 20% of such patients fail to respond to rescue therapy and undergo colectomy. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the outcomes of infliximab and a plant-based diet (PBD) as first-line therapy for severe UC. METHODS: Patients with severe UC defined by the Truelove and Witts criteria were admitted and given standard induction therapy with infliximab (5.0 mg/kg-7.5 mg/kg) at 0, 2, and 6 weeks. Additionally, they received a PBD. The primary endpoint was remission or colectomy in the induction phase and 1 year after discharge. Secondary endpoints were changes in inflammatory markers in the induction phase and the PBD score at baseline and follow-up. A higher PBD score indicates greater adherence to a PBD. RESULTS: Infliximab and PBD as first-line therapy was administered in 17 cases. The remission rate was 76% (13/17), and the colectomy rate was 6% (1/17) in the induction phase. C-reactive protein values and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate significantly decreased at week 6 from 9.42 mg/dL to 0.33 mg/dL and from 59 to 17 mm/h, respectively (p < 0.0001). At 1-year follow-up, the cumulative relapse rate was 25%, and there were no additional colectomy cases. Mean PBD scores of 27.7 at 1 year and 23.8 at 4 years were significantly higher than baseline scores of 8.3 and 9.9, respectively (p < 0.0001 and p = 0.0391). CONCLUSION: This new first-line therapy for severe UC demonstrated a higher remission rate and lower colectomy rate than with the current modality.

Russell body gastritis is an extremely rare gastritis characterized by abundant infiltration of plasma cells with Russell body and eccentric nuclei, known as Mott cells. An 81-year-old Japanese woman with Helicobacter pylori and hepatitis C virus infection complaining of abdominal discomfort underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which detected an elevated lesion 2 cm in diameter at the anterior wall of the gastric body. A histological examination of the lesion revealed the infiltration of numerous Mott cells with an abundant eosinophilic crystal structure and eccentric nuclei in the lamina propria, resulting in a pathological diagnosis of Russell body gastritis. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was performed subsequently. The histological findings of the resected specimen were compatible with those of Russell body gastritis. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy performed 2 months after endoscopic submucosal dissection revealed the presence of new multiple flat elevated lesions in the antrum up to 1 cm in diameter, distant from the site of endoscopic submucosal dissection. A histological examination revealed a few Mott cells in the biopsy specimens taken from the new lesions. In turn, H. pylori eradication therapy was performed 1 month after the detection of the new lesions. One year after the eradication therapy, follow-up upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed that multiple lesions had almost disappeared, and the histological examination of the gastric biopsy specimens confirmed the disappearance of Mott cells. We herein report a case of Russell body gastritis in which multifocal lesions were observed after endoscopic submucosal dissection, and which was subsequently treated by H. pylori eradication therapy.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) has been known as a reagent for improving lipid metabolism and inflammation. Hepatocyte-specific Pten-deficient mice exhibit hepatic lesions analogous to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Therefore, we administered EPA to Pten-deficient mice to investigate the mechanisms of NASH. METHODS: Pten-deficient mice were assigned to a control group fed with a standard chow or an EPA group fed with a 5% EPA-supplemented standard chow. At 40 weeks, livers from each group were processed to measure triglyceride content, gene expression analysis, Western blotting analysis, and histological examination. Level of serum reactive oxygen species (ROS) was also determined. Forty- and 76-week-old mice were used in tumor burden experiments. RESULTS: EPA-ameliorated hepatic steatosis in Pten-deficient mice was based on decreased expression of AMPKalpha1-mediated SREBP-1c and increased PPARalpha expression. The EPA group exhibited less severe chronic hepatic inflammation compared to the control group, resulting from decreased ROS formation and a dramatically low ratio of arachidonic acid to EPA. Moreover, EPA inhibited development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Pten-deficient mice based on an inhibition of MAPK activity and a low ratio of oleic to stealic acid, and a reduction in ROS formation. CONCLUSIONS: EPA ameliorated steatohepatitis and development of HCC in Pten-deficient mice.

AIM: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered to be a public health problem worldwide. NAFLD is more prevalent in men than in women. Tamoxifen, a potent estrogen receptor antagonist, causes nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a severe form of NAFLD. Thus, there may be a sex difference that is dependent on estrogens in NAFLD and NASH. Hepatocyte-specific Pten-deficient mice exhibit hepatic lesions analogous to NASH and are considered to be a clinical model of NASH. We aimed to shed light on any sex differences in the hepatic lesions of Pten-deficient mice and the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: At 40 weeks, livers from male and female Pten-deficient mice were processed for measuring lipid content, genes expression analysis, and histological examination. Level of serum reactive oxygen species (ROS) was also determined. Seventy-six-week-old mice were used in tumor burden experiments. RESULTS: Hepatic steatosis, inflammation, and even carcinogenesis in Pten-deficient mice were attenuated in females compared to males. Attenuated fatty liver in females was ascribed to inactivation of sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c. Hepatic inflammation in females was suppressed via decreased ROS with increased antioxidant gene expression and decreased proinflammatory cytokine production. Anti-cancer effect in female mice was, at least in part, due to the significantly lower ratio of oleic to stearic acid in the liver. CONCLUSIONS: Hepatic lesions in Pten-deficient mice were attenuated in females compared to males, as were human NAFLD and NASH. Some of the underlying mechanisms in sex difference appeared to be due to the change of gene expression, dependent on estrogens.

The nuclear pore complex embedded within the nuclear envelope is the essential architecture for trafficking macromolecules, such as proteins and RNAs, between the cytoplasm and nucleus. The nuclear pore complex assembly occurs on chromatin in the post-mitotic phase of the cell cycle. ELYS (MEL-28/AHCTF1) binds to the nucleosome, which is the basic chromatin unit, and promotes assembly of the complex around the chromosomes in cells. Here we show that the Arg-Arg-Lys (RRK) stretch of the C-terminal ELYS region plays an essential role in the nucleosome binding. The cryo-EM structure and the crosslinking mass spectrometry reveal that the ELYS C-terminal region directly binds to the acidic patch of the nucleosome. These results provide mechanistic insight into the ELYS-nucleosome interaction, which promotes the post-mitotic nuclear pore complex formation around chromosomes in cells.

In eukaryotes, homologous recombination plays a pivotal role in both genome maintenance and generation of genetic diversity. Eukaryotic RecA homologues, RAD51 and DMC1, are key proteins in homologous recombination that promote pairing between homologous DNA sequences. Arabidopsis thaliana is a prominent model plant for studying eukaryotic homologous recombination. However, A. thaliana RAD51 and DMC1 have not been biochemically characterized. In the present study, we purified A. thaliana RAD51 (AtRAD51) and DMC1 (AtDMC1). Biochemical analyses revealed that both AtRAD51 and AtDMC1 possess ATP hydrolyzing activity, filament formation activity and homologous pairing activity in vitro. We then compared the homologous pairing activities of AtRAD51 and AtDMC1 with those of the Oryza sativa and Homo sapiens RAD51 and DMC1 proteins.

CONTEXT: No known previous study has focused on plant-based diet (PBD) to prevent relapse of ulcerative colitis (UC) except our previous educational hospitalization study. OBJECTIVE: To describe the relapse rate in a large case series of UC after incorporation of PBD into induction therapy. DESIGN: All patients with UC between 2003 and 2017 were admitted for induction therapy. Patients receiving educational hospitalization or treated with infliximab were excluded. A lacto-ovo-semivegetarian diet (PBD) together with medication prescribed according to UC guidelines was provided during hospitalization. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary endpoint was relapse during follow-up. The secondary endpoint was change over time in the plant-based diet score (PBDS), which evaluated adherence to the PBD. RESULTS: Ninety-two cases were studied, of which 51 were initial episodes and 41 were relapses. Cases varied in severity (31 mild, 48 moderate, 13 severe) and extent (15 proctitis, 22 left-sided colitis, 55 extensive colitis). More severe cases existed among the relapse cases than among the initial episode cases. Cumulative relapse rates at 1- and 5-year follow-up (Kaplan-Meier analysis) were 14% and 27%, respectively, for the initial episode cases, and 36% and 53%, respectively, for relapse cases. At long-term follow-up (6 years 4 months), PBDS was significantly higher than baseline PBDS (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: Relapse rates in UC after induction therapy with PBD were far lower than those previously reported with conventional therapy. Adherence to PBD was significantly higher than baseline even at 6-year follow-up. BACKGROUND: The incidence of peptic ulcers unrelated to H. pylori infection and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), termed idiopathic peptic ulcers (IPUs), has increased worldwide. We recently reported that IPUs were refractory to proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment. Vonoprazan, which was recently developed in Japan, has shown a more potent acid-inhibitory effect than ordinary PPIs. In the present study, we compared the healing rates among peptic ulcers of different etiologies following treatment with vonoprazan. METHOD: A multicenter observational study was performed at six participating hospitals in Akita Prefecture, Japan. Consecutive patients who had endoscopically confirmed gastro-duodenal ulcers were enrolled between August 2016 and March 2018. For each patient, the Helicobacter pylori infection status and NSAID use, including aspirin, were checked, and 20 mg vonoprazan was administered for 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers and 8 weeks for gastric ulcers. The healing status was checked by endoscopy at the end of vonoprazan treatment. Patients were divided into four subgroups according to the H. pylori status and NSAID usage. RESULTS: The proportion of IPUs was 18.2%. A total of 162 patients completed the study protocol. The healing rate of IPUs was marginally lower than that of simple H. pylori-associated ulcers (81.2% vs. 93.5%, P = 0.05). Similarly, the healing rate of NSAID-related ulcers, irrespective of concomitant H. pylori infection, was significantly lower than that of simple H. pylori-associated ulcers. CONCLUSIONS: Six- or 8-week vonoprazan treatment still seems to be insufficient for healing IPUs. Longer-term vonoprazan or another treatment option may be required to heal potentially refractory peptic ulcers.

Mao is one component of various traditional herbal medicines. We examined the effects of Mao on an acute liver failure model treated with d-galactosamine (GalN) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The lethality of mice administrated Mao with GalN/LPS was significantly decreased compared with that in mice without Mao. Hepatic apoptosis and inflammatory cell infiltration were slight in Mao-treated mice. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and total bilirubin (T.Bil) activity, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) levels and caspase 8, 9, and 3 activity in the liver were significantly lower in mice administrated Mao. But, Serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-10 levels and signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) activity in the liver were significantly higher in mice administrated Mao. To investigate the effect of STAT3, we used AG490, which selectively inhibits the activation of Janus kinase (JAK) family tyrosine kinase and inhibits the constitutive activation of STAT3. There was significant aggravation in hepatic apoptosis treated with Mao and AG490 compared with Mao alone. In conclusions, Mao significantly suppressed hepatic apoptosis by inhibition of TNF-alpha production and caspase activity. Furthermore, it is also suggested that Mao, which activates STAT3 induced by IL-6, may be a useful therapeutic tool for fulminant hepatic failure.

CONTEXT: No known published study has focused on a plant-based diet (PBD) in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). OBJECTIVE: To investigate relapse prevention in UC after consumption of a PBD during educational hospitalization in Japan. DESIGN: Prospective study of patients with mild UC or UC in remission who did not need immediate treatment. A PBD and dietary guidance were provided during a two-week hospitalization. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary end point was relapse (a flare-up that required more aggressive treatment) during the follow-up period. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to calculate the cumulative relapse rate. Secondary end points were immediate improvement in symptoms or laboratory data during hospitalization and a chronologic change in the PBD score, which evaluated adherence to the PBD. RESULTS: Sixty cases were studied: 29 initial episode cases and 31 relapse cases. Of these, 31 involved proctitis; 7, left-sided colitis; and 22, extensive colitis. Thirty-seven patients were receiving medication; 23 were not. The median age was 34 years; median follow-up was 3 years 6 months. Eight cases relapsed during follow-up. The cumulative relapse rates at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years of follow-up were 2%, 4%, 7%, 19%, and 19%, respectively. Most patients (77%) experienced some improvement such as disappearance or decrease of bloody stool during hospitalization. The short- and long-term PBD scores after the hospitalization were higher than baseline PBD scores. CONCLUSION: Relapse rates after educational hospitalization providing a PBD were far lower than those reported with medication. Educational hospitalization is effective at inducing habitual dietary changes.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 30% of patients with Crohn disease (CD) are unresponsive to biologics. No previous study has focused on a plant-based diet in an induction phase of CD treatment. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the remission rate of infliximab combined with a plant-based diet as first-line (IPF) therapy for CD. METHODS: This was a prospective single-group trial conducted at tertiary hospitals. Subjects included consecutive adults with a new diagnosis (n = 26), children with a new diagnosis (n = 11), and relapsing adults (n = 9) with CD who were naïve to treatment with biologics. Patients were admitted and administered a standard induction therapy with infliximab (5 mg/kg; 3 infusions at 0, 2, and 6 weeks). Additionally, they received a lacto-ovo-semivegetarian diet. The primary end point was remission, defined as the disappearance of active CD symptoms at week 6. Secondary end points were Crohn Disease Activity Index (CDAI) score, C-reactive protein (CRP) concentration, and mucosal healing. RESULTS: Two adults with a new diagnosis were withdrawn from the treatment protocol because of intestinal obstruction. The remission rates by the intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses were 96% (44/46) and 100% (44/44), respectively. Mean CDAI score (314) on admission decreased to 63 at week 6 (p < 0.0001). Mean CRP level on admission (5.3 mg/dL) decreased to 0.2 (p < 0.0001). Mucosal healing was achieved in 46% (19/41) of cases. CONCLUSION: IPF therapy can induce remission in most patients with CD who are naïve to biologics regardless of age or whether they have a new diagnosis or relapse.

Molecular dynamics simulations of the protein C gamma-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) domain and endothelial cell protein C receptor (EPCR) complex were performed to determine the effect of a hereditary disease, which results in a mutation (Gla 25 --> Lys) in the protein C Gla domain. Our results suggest that the Gla 25 --> Lys mutation causes a significant reduction in the binding force between protein C Gla domain and EPCR due to destabilization of the helix structure of EPCR and displacement of a Ca2+ ion.

Appendiceal orifice inflammation, which is often observed in mild or moderate distal ulcerative colitis, was observed in a case of severe UC. Appendiceal orifice inflammation resolved after new induction therapy for severe UC: infliximab and a plant-based diet as first-line therapy.

CONTEXT: Plant-based diets (PBDs) are a healthy alternative to westernized diets. A semivegetarian diet, a PBD, has been shown to prevent a relapse in Crohn disease. However, there is no way to measure adherence to PBDs. OBJECTIVE: To develop a simple way of evaluating adherence to a PBD for Japanese patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). DESIGN: PBD scores were assigned according to the frequency of consumption provided on a food-frequency questionnaire, obtained on hospitalization for 159 patients with ulcerative colitis and 70 patients with Crohn disease. Eight items considered to be preventive factors for IBD were scored positively, and 8 items considered to be IBD risk factors were scored negatively. The PBD score was calculated from the sum of plus and minus scores. Higher PBD scores indicated greater adherence to a PBD. The PBD scores were evaluated on hospitalization and 2 years after discharge for 22 patients with Crohn disease whose dietary pattern and prognosis were established. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Plant-Based Diet score. RESULTS: The PBD scores differed significantly, in descending order, by dietary type: pro-Japanese diet, mixed type, and pro-westernized diet (Wilcoxon/Kruskal-Wallis test). The PBD scores in the ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease groups were 10.9 ± 9.5 and 8.2 ± 8.2, respectively. For patients with Crohn disease, those with long-term remission and normal C-reactive protein concentration were significantly more likely to have PBD scores of 25 or greater than below 25 (χ2). CONCLUSION: The PBD score is a valid assessment of PBD dietary adherence.

OBJECTIVE: We focused on a small New World monkey, the common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus), to establish a nonhuman primate model of the treatment of hematological disorders. In this study, we developed the first monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) against marmoset CD34 and tested the in vitro and in vivo hemopoietic activity of cell populations isolated using one of these MAbs. METHODS AND RESULTS: Marmoset cDNA encoding a human CD34 homologue was cloned from bone marrow (BM)-derived RNA using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The amino acid sequence of the marmoset CD34 had 81% homology with the human sequence. Five mouse MAbs were raised against marmoset CD34 transfectant. One representative MAb, MA24 (IgM), reacted with approximately 0.5 to 1% of BM mononuclear cells (MNCs), where the colony-forming unit granulocyte/macrophage (CFU-GM) was enriched approximately 11- to 75-fold as compared with the whole BM MNCs. Multilineage differentiation of marmoset CD34+ cells in NOD/SCID mice was confirmed by flow cytometry 1 month after xenotransplantation. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that MA24 is useful for the analysis and enrichment of hematopoietic progenitor cells in the marmoset model for preclinical experiments.
