BACKGROUND: This study aimed to explore the longitudinal associations of rumination with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD). METHODS: Participants were derived from the Depression Cohort in China study (DCC). Those who completed at least one follow-up visit during the 12 months were included in the analysis. Dimensions of rumination including brooding and reflection were each measured using five items of the Ruminative Responses Scale. Suicidal ideation was assessed using the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation. Suicide attempts were also assessed and all were analyzed with generalized estimating equations. RESULTS: Our final sample included 532 participants aged 18 to 59 years (mean [SD], 26.91 [6.94] years) consisting of 148 (27.8%) males and 384 (72.2%) females. After adjusting for temporal trend and potential confounders, individuals with higher levels of reflection were more likely to report suicidal ideation (AOR =1.11, 95% CI:1.01-1.22). However, no statistically significant association was found between brooding and suicidal ideation (AOR =1.06, 95% CI:0.96-1.17). Conversely, individuals with higher levels of brooding were more likely to report suicide attempts (AOR =1.13, 95% CI:1.02-1.24), while no statistically significant association was observed between reflection and suicide attempts (AOR =0.91, 95% CI:0.82-1.01). CONCLUSION: Rumination reflects a disturbance in cognitive emotional processing and manifests in different dimensions. Our findings suggest that high levels of reflection and brooding may be associated with a higher likelihood of having suicidal ideation and suicide attempts, respectively. However, it should be interpreted with caution, given that effect sizes are small.

The synergistic effect and compatibility structure of active anti-inflammatory ingredients(iridoid glycosides: shanzhiside methylester and 8-O-acetylshanzhiside methyl ester, flavonoid glycoside: luteoloside, and phenylethanoid glycoside: forsythoside B) from Lamiophlomis rotata were explored based on network pharmacology and component structure theory. In network pharmacology, CTD, SwisseTargetPrediction, and PharmMapper databases were used to collect and screen the targets of all active ingredients. The inflammation-related targets were obtained from CTD and GeneCards databases. The core targets were obtained by Venny 2.1.0, STRING, and Cytoscape 3.9.1. Core targets were annotated by the GO function and enriched by the KEGG pathway based on the DAVID database. In terms of component structure, based on a uniform design method and xylene-induced ear swelling model in mice, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 were taken as the dependent variables, and the compatibility relationship among anti-inflammatory ingredients from L. rotata was explored through the quadratic polynomial stepwise regression. In addition, in vivo pharmacological experiments were conducted to verify the results. A network pharmacology study showed that compared with a single ingredient, the combined action of the three ingredients can synergistically exert anti-inflammatory effects through more biological processes, pathways, and targets. Component structure study showed that the optimal structural ratio of shanzhiside methylester and 8-O-acetylshanzhiside methyl ester in the iridoid glycoside ingredient was 1.21∶1. The optimal structural ratio among the three types of ingredients(iridoid glycosides∶phenylethanol glycoside∶flavonoid glycoside) was 4.8∶1.6∶1. In conclusion, each anti-inflammatory ingredient from L. rotata can work synergistically, and there is an optimal compatibility ratio relationship among these ingredients. This work provides a new experimental basis for the intrinsic quality control of L. rotata.

Straw returning is suggested as a sustainable agricultural practice to promote soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration, whose magnitude can be influenced by climatic, edaphic and agronomic factors simultaneously. However, the driving factors regulating straw returning-induced SOC increase in China's uplands remain uncertain. This study conducted a meta-analysis by collecting data from 238 trials at 85 field sites. The results showed that straw returning significantly increased SOC content by an average of 16.1% ± 1.5% with an average sequestration rate of 0.26 ± 0.02 g kg-1 yr-1. The improvement effects were significantly better in the northern China (NE-NW-N) than in the eastern and central (E-C). SOC increases were more pronounced in C-rich and alkaline soils, in cold and dry climates, and under larger amounts of straw-C and moderate nitrogen fertilizer inputs. Longer experimental period resulted in higher SOC increase rates but lower SOC sequestration rates. Furthermore, partial correlation analysis and structural equation modelling revealed that total straw-C input was the key driving factor of SOC increase rate whereas straw returning duration was the dominant limiting factor of SOC sequestration rate across China. Climate conditions were potential limiting factors of SOC increase rate in NE-NW-N and SOC sequestration rate in E-C. It was suggested that straw returning with large application amounts should be more strongly recommended in uplands in NE-NW-N especially in the straw applications at the beginning, from the perspective of SOC sequestration.

The present study analyzed the chemical constituents in dried roots of Dolomiaea souliei. Chromatographic methods, such as normal-phase, and reversed-phase column chromatography, TLC, and preparative HPLC, were applied to separate and purify the petroleum ether extract of D. souliei. The structures of the purified constituents were identified by multiple spectroscopic methods including 1 D NMR, 2 D NMR, IR, UV, and HR-ESI-MS. Fourteen triterpenoids were obtained and identified as bauer-8-ene-3,11-dione-7α-ol(1), bauer-8-ene-3-one-7α,11α-diol(2), 3-oxo-11α-hydroxy-urs-12-ene(3), 3-oxour-12-ene-1ß,11α-diol(4), 3ß,11α-dihydroxy-urs-12-ene(5), taraxast-20-ene-3ß,30-diol(6), 28-hydroxy-3-oxo-12-ursene(7), 3ß-hydroxytaraxast-20-ene-30-aldehyde(8), urs-12-ene-2α,3ß,28-triol(9), 20-hydroxylupan-3-one(10), monogynol A(11), obtusalin(12), 3-oxo, 11α-hydroxy-olean-12-ene(13), and isocabralealactone(14). Among them, compounds 1 and 2 were new compounds. Compounds 4-10, 12, and 14 were isolated from this genus for the first time. Compounds 3 and 11 were obtained from D. souliei for the first time.

To explore the mechanism of anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium based on network pharmacology and inflammatory or pain mouse models. The effective components of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium were screened out by TCMSP database. And their potential corresponding targets were predicted by PharmMapper software. The possible targets relating to inflammation and pain were mainly collected through DrugBank, TTD and DisGeNET databases. The "active ingredient-gene-disease" network diagram was constructed by Cytoscape 3.7.0 software. The network pharmacology results showed 5 potential effective compounds, which were related to 29 targets; 132 targets relating to inflammation and pain were screened out in the DrugBank, TTD and DisGeNET databases. The network analysis results indicated that the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase catalytic subunit gamma isoform(PIK3 CG) gene may be the key to the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium. The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of essential oil extract and dichloromethane extract of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium were explored through the mouse model of inflammation induced by xylene or carrageenan and the mouse model of pain induced by acetic acid or formalin. The experimental results showed that essential oil extract and dichloromethane extract of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium could reduce xylene-induced ear swelling and carrageenan-induced paw swelling and decrease the number of writhing responses in mice induced by acetic acid and the licking foot time of mice in phase Ⅱ induced by formalin. Western blot results showed that Zanthoxyli Pericarpium extract could inhibit the expressions of PIK3 CG, phosphonated nuclear factor kappaB(p-NF-κB) and phosphonated p38(p-p38 MAPK) protein. The present study showed the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium through multiple components and targets, so as to provide a pharmacodynamic basis for the study of Zanthoxyli Pericarpium and its mechanism.

Solution 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been widely applied to analyze the speciation of soil organic P; however, this time-consuming technique suffers from a low analytical efficiency, because of the lack of fundamental information such as the spin-lattice relaxation (T1) of 31P nucleus for model P compounds. In this study, we for the first time determined the T1 values of twelve typical soil organic P compounds using the inversion recovery method. Furthermore, we examined the effect of co-existing paramagnetic ions (e.g., Fe3+ and Mn2+) on the reduction of the T1 values of these compounds. Without the addition of paramagnetic ions, the T1 values of twelve model P compounds ranged from 0.61 s for phytic acid to 9.65 s for orthophosphate. In contrast, the presence of paramagnetic ion significantly shortened the T1 values of orthophosphate, pyrophosphate, and phytic acid to 1.29, 1.26, and 0.07 s, respectively, except that of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) remaining unchanged. Additionally, we evaluated the feasibility of improving the efficiency of quantitative 31P NMR analysis via addition of paramagnetic ion. Results show that, after an addition of 50 mg L-1 paramagnetic ions, 31P NMR measurement can be 3 times more efficient, attributed to the reduced T1 and the corresponding recycle delay.

This study aimed to elucidate the active ingredients of Lamiophlomis herba (LH), the overground part of Lamiophlomis rotata (Benth.) Kudo, against hemorrhage based on network pharmacology and tail snipping model in mice. A total of 118 hemorrhage-related target genes were identified by retrieving public databases, and 39 genes were identified as the hub genes of hemorrhage based on protein-protein interaction and module analyses. The interactions between 67 potentially active ingredients in LH and 7 genes in the 39 hub genes were established and analyzed through molecular docking and Cytoscape. A total of 21 ingredients were involved in the interactions, and were divided into three categories: iridoid (15 ingredients), flavonoid (2 ingredients) and other category (4 ingredients). Based on the "multi-ingredient, multi-target" characteristic of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), the results of network pharmacology indicated that iridoid might be the key active ingredient group of LH against hemorrhage. The contribution of iridoid to the hemostatic effect of LH was investigated by the tail snipping model in mice. The results showed that iridoid was the key active ingredient group of LH against hemorrhage, which confirmed the prediction in network pharmacology. Additionally, the previous reports also supported this prediction. In conclusion, the finding of the present study indicates that iridoid is the key hemostatic ingredient group of LH. This work provides valuable references for investigation of the hemostatic ingredients of LH based on the holistic theory of TCMs. Meanwhile, this work also provides further insight into the development of hemostatic drugs based on LH.

Converting poultry litter (PL) into biochar by slow pyrolysis is a promising approach for recycling organic waste with enhanced phosphorus (P) utilization efficiency, which needs fundamental knowledge of in situ P speciation transformation for optimizing the biochar conversion conditions. In this study, solid-state NMR spectroscopy was employed to characterize solid-state P and C speciation of raw PL and PL-derived biochars prepared at various pyrolysis temperatures. The NMR analysis indicated that phytates were decomposed while hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) formed during conversion of PL to PL-derived biochar at a pyrolysis temperature above 300 °C. With increasing pyrolysis temperature to above 500 °C, farringtonite (Mg3(PO4)2) formed. The higher pyrolysis temperature also favored the formation of calcite and provided deeper carbonization (i.e., greater dominance of thermally stable aromatic structures) in the biochar products. Water extractable P decreased significantly from 2.9 g/kg in PL to less than 0.3 g/kg in the PL-derived biochars prepared above 300 °C, indicating the inhibition effect of pyrolysis on the P lability mainly through transformation of labile phosphates in PL into less soluble forms. Overall, this study suggested that different pyrolysis temperatures should be considered for selective conversion of PL to biochar products with distinct agricultural and environmental applications that demand special P release patterns.

Hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitor 1 (HAI-1) is a membrane-bound multidomain protein essential to the integrity of the basement membrane during placental development and is also important in maintaining postnatal homeostasis in many tissues. HAI-1 is a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor, and soluble fragments of HAI-1 with variable lengths have been identified in vivo The full-length extracellular portion of HAI-1 (sHAI-1) shows weaker inhibitory activity toward target proteases than the smaller fragments, suggesting auto-inhibition of HAI-1. However, this possible regulatory mechanism has not yet been evaluated. Here, we solved the crystal structure of sHAI-1 and determined the solution structure by small-angle X-ray scattering. These structural analyses revealed that, despite the presence of long linkers, sHAI-1 exists in a compact conformation in which sHAI-1 active sites in Kunitz domain 1 are sterically blocked by neighboring structural elements. We also found that in the presence of target proteases, sHAI-1 adopts an extended conformation that disables the auto-inhibition effect. Our results also reveal the roles of non-inhibitory domains of this multidomain protein and explain the low activity of the full-length protein. The structural insights gained here improve our understanding of the regulation of HAI-1 inhibitory activities and point to new approaches for better controlling these activities.

Several studies have reported the preventive or therapeutic effect of curcuminoids on chronic heart failure (CHF), but their application was limited due to low solubility and bioavailability. Our previous study indicates that self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) improves the solubility and bioavailability of curcuminoids. Thus, the aim of this work was to investigate whether SEDDS could improve preventive effect of curcuminoids on CHF in rats. CHF model was were established by coronary artery ligation. Ninety rats were randomly and averagely divided into sham, model, low- or high-dose suspension or SEDDS of curcuminoids (66.68 or 266.68 mg/kg) groups. Hemodynamic indices were recorded by multipurpose polygraph. Serum oxidative indices, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and heart weight index were determined by kits and electronic balance. Myocardial infarct area, ventricular dilatation degree and collagen volume fraction of myocardial interstitium were analyzed by Masson staining, picric acid and sirius red staining, light microscopy and image analysis system. Myocardial histopathology was observed by hematoxylin and eosin staining, Masson staining and light microscopy. Reduction of ventricular pump function, increase of BNP level and heart weight index, myocardial lipid peroxidation damage, myocardial infarction, myocardial fibrosis, and cardiac enlargement were detected or observed in model group relative to those in sham group. After treatment with suspension or SEDDS of curcuminoids, the above-mentioned pathological changes were obviously reversed relative to those in model group. Meanwhile, the ameliorative effect of SEDDS of curcuminoids was markedly better than that of suspension of curcuminoids. This work provides a valuable reference from pharmacodynamics for development of curcuminoids pharmaceutics.

Objective: To identify and characterize an electrogenic bacterium SE6 isolated form forest soil. Methods: Pure culture of the strain was obtained by anaerobic incubation. It was identified based on morphology, physiology and biochemistry, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. The strain was inoculated in a dual chamber microbial fuel cell with LB medium as anolyte and potassium ferricyanide as catholyte, to characterize its electrogenic ability. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was conducted to analyze internal resistances of the MFCs. Extracellular electron transfer mechanism of the strain was explored by cyclic voltammetry. Biofilm on the anode surface was observed using scanning electron microscope. Results: The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain SE6 was 100% phylogenetically related to Clostridium sporogenes. Their morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics were identical. The maximum power density of the MFCs inoculated with SE6 was 44.42 mW/m2. The anodic resistance, cathodic resistance and ohmic resistance were (1488±193) Ω/cm2, (0.92±0.01) Ω/cm2 and (20.69±1.76) Ω/cm2, respectively. Cyclic voltammograms indicated the existence of an electrochemically active substance, of which the peak currents were linearly correlated with the scanning rates. The 1 µm-rodshaped bacteria densely attaching to the anode surface were observed in scanning electron micrographs. Conclusion: A novel electrogenic strain of C. sporogenes was isolated from forest soil, which transfers electrons extracellularly to electrode with high resistance.

OBJECTIVE: To establish an HPLC fingerprint of Anisodus tanguticus root for its quality control. METHODS: The analysis was carried out on a Ultimate AQ C18 (250 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 µm) column with the gradient elution of acetonitrile and KH2PO4 buffer soution, whose pH was adjusted to 3.0 with phosphoric acid. The flow rate, column temperature, detection wavelength and injection volume was 1.0 mL/min, 30 degrees C, 210 nm and 10 µL separately. The similarity evaluation and principal component analysis were used to analyze HPLC fingerprint of Anisodus tanguticus root. RESULTS: HPLC fingerprint of Anisodus tanguticus root was established with 15 common peaks by determining 18 batches of Anisodus tanguticus root samples. Four characteristic peaks, anisodine, scopolamine, anisodamine and anisodamine, were confirmed by comparing their retention time and UV spectrum with standard reference substances. The simiarities of 18 batches of Anisodus tanguticus root were between -0.891 and 0.987. Comprehensive evaluation scores of 18 batches of Anisodus tanguticus root were between -0.85 and 0.89 by principal component analysis. CONCLUSION: The established HPLC fingerprint has good precision, repeatability and stability, which can provide more comprehensive information for identification and quality control of Anisodus tanguticus root.

Soil aggregates are crucial for soil organic carbon (OC) accumulation. This study, utilizing a 32-year fertilization experiment, investigates whether the core microbiome can elucidate variations in carbon content and decomposition across different aggregate sizes more effectively than broader bacterial and fungal community analyses. Employing ensemble learning algorithms that integrate machine learning with network inference, we found that the core microbiome accounts for an average increase of 26 % and 20 % in the explained variance of PCoA and Adonis analyses, respectively, in response to fertilization. Compared to the control, inorganic and organic fertilizers decreased the decomposition index (DDI) by 31 % and 38 %, respectively. The fungal core microbiome predominantly influenced OC content and DDI in larger macroaggregates (>2000 µm), explaining over 35 % of the variance, while the bacterial core microbiome had a lesser impact, explaining <30 %. Conversely, in smaller aggregates (<2000 µm), the bacterial core microbiome significantly influenced DDI (R2 > 0.2), and the fungal core microbiome more strongly affected OC content (R2 > 0.3). Mantel tests showed that pH is the most significant environmental factor affecting core microbiome composition across all aggregate sizes (Mantel's r > 0.8, P < 0.01). Linear correlation analysis further confirmed that the core microbiome's community structure could accurately predict OC content and DDI in aggregates (R2 > 0.8, P < 0.05). Overall, our findings suggested that the core microbiome provides deeper insights into the variability of aggregate organic carbon content and decomposition, with the bacterial core microbiome playing a particularly pivotal role within the soil aggregates.

Dark microbial fixation of CO2 is an indispensable process for soil carbon sequestration. However, the whole genetic information involved in dark CO2 fixation and its influence on dark CO2 fixation rates under diversified fertilization regimes were largely unclear. Here, revealed by 13C-CO2 labeling, dark CO2 fixation rates in upland red soils ranged from 0.029 mg kg-1 d-1 to 0.092 mg kg-1 d-1, and it was 75.49 % higher (P < 0.05) in organic manure (OM) soil but 44.2 % decline (P < 0.05) in chemical nitrogen fertilizer (N) soil compared to unfertilized (CK) soil. In addition, the normalized abundance and Chao1 index of dark CO2 fixation genes (KO level) were significantly different between OM and N soils, showing the highest and lowest, respectively. And they were positively (P < 0.05) correlated with dark CO2 fixation rate. Besides, among the identified CO2 fixation pathways in this study, the DC/4-HB cycle (M00374) was enriched in OM soil, yet the 3-HP cycle (M00376) was enriched in N soil, and their relative abundances were positively and negatively correlated (P < 0.05) with dark CO2 fixation rate, respectively. The PLS-SEM analysis revealed that dark CO2 fixation-related functional traits (i.e. normalized abundance, Chao1 index and gene composition) were directly and positively associated with dark CO2 fixation rate, and organic manure could exert a positive effect on soil dark CO2 fixation rate through enhancing soil properties (e.g., pH and soil organic carbon) and further altering associated microbial functional traits. These results have implications for explaining and predicting the soil CO2 fixation process from the perspective of microbial functional potential.

The current study investigated the impact of germination duration on the functional components (vitamin C, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), polyphenols, flavonoids) and antioxidant activity of germs and cotyledons of the germinated Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima). We utilized seeds of the "Zaofeng" Chinese chestnut to germinate, and sowed the seeds in wet sand at 22 °C and 85% relative humidity. The germination rate, length, diameter, and fresh weight of the sprouts were investigated at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 days after sowing, and the kinetic changes of amylose, amylopectin, sugar components, soluble protein, vitamin C, GABA, total phenols, flavonoids, and the DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging activity in the germs and cotyledons were monitored, respectively. The findings revealed that the germination rate and germ biomass increased continuously during germination. The germination rate reached 90% on the 8th day after sowing. Germination reduced amylose in cotyledons from 42.3% to 34.2%, amylopectin from 42.9% to 25.8%, total sugar from 12.6% to 11.4%, and vitamin C from 1.45 mg/g to 0.77 mg/g. Meanwhile, soluble protein in the embryos rose from 0.31% to 0.60%, vitamin C from 21.1 to 29.4 mg/g, GABA from 0.49 to 1.68 mg/g, total flavonoids from 53.6 to 129.7 mg/g, and ABTS antioxidant activity from 1.52 to 3.27 µmol TE/g. The average contents of D-fructose, inositol, vitamin C, GABA, polyphenols, and flavonoids and the DPPH and ABTS antioxidant activity in germs were as high as 22.5, 6, 35, 7.5, 10, 20, and 10 and 20-fold those of cotyledons, respectively. Especially, the average content of glucose in germ was as high as 80-fold that of cotyledon. D-xylulose, D-galacturonic acid, and D-ribose were only found in germs, but not in cotyledons. Considering the germ biomass and functional components content, germs of Chinese chestnuts germinated at 22 °C for 8 days are considered the most suitable raw material for functional food products. In conclusion, controlled germination not only enhances the physicochemical and functional properties of Chinese chestnut germs but also reduces the caloric content and improves the nutritional composition of the cotyledons appropriately. Moreover, the comprehensive evaluation of compositional changes and functionality in the embryo and cotyledon of Chinese chestnuts will provide a solid foundation for subsequent functional food processing utilizing germinated Chinese chestnuts.

BACKGROUND: To estimate the prevalence of lifetime e-cigarette use and explore the association between lifetime conventional and electronic cigarette use with suicidality among Chinese adolescents, focusing on sex and school-type differences. METHODS: A total of 22,509 students from 432 classes in 80 schools were recruited in Guangdong Province using a multistage, stratified cluster, random sampling method in 2021. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect information. Multivariable logistic regression models were performed and stratification analysis was conducted. All analyses were weighted and adjusted for the complex survey design. RESULTS: The weighted prevalence of lifetime e-cigarette use among adolescents in Guangdong Province was 8.7 % (4.3 % were dual users and 4.4 % were e-cigarette-only users) and 2.6 % were conventional-cigarette-only users. Lifetime e-cigarette-only users (AOR [Adjusted OR] =1.46, 95 % CI = 1.21-1.76), conventional-cigarette-only users (AOR = 1.97, 95 % CI = 1.58-2.46) and dual users (AOR = 1.67, 95 % CI = 1.38-2.02) were at a higher risk of suicidal ideation than non-users. Lifetime e-cigarette-only users (AOR = 2.03, 95 % CI = 1.53-2.70), conventional-cigarette-only users (AOR = 1.97, 95 % CI = 1.42-2.73), and dual users (AOR = 2.76, 95 % CI = 2.10-3.61) had a significantly higher risk of suicide attempts than non-users. After further analysis stratified by sex and school type, the associations of lifetime cigarette use patterns with suicidality slightly varied. LIMITATION: The cross-sectional study design and self-report information. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of e-cigarettes among Chinese adolescents is concerning. Lifetime conventional and e-cigarette use were associated with suicidality among Chinese adolescents, with sex and school type moderating these associations. Targeted measures to restrict cigarette use, including new tobacco product (e-cigarette) use, among adolescents are warranted.

This study developed a rapid, accurate, objective and economic method to identify and evaluate the quality of Alismatis Rhizoma (AR) commodities. Traditionally, the identification of plant species and geographical origins of AR commodities mainly relied on experienced staff. However, the subjectivity and inaccuracy of human identification negatively impacted the trade of AR. Besides, liquid chromatographic methods such as ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the major approach for the determination of triterpenoid contents in AR was time-consuming, expensive, and highly demanded in manoeuvre specialists. In this study, the combination of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and chemometrics as the method was developed and utilised to address the two common issues of identifying the quality of AR commodities. Through the discriminant analysis (DA), the raw NIR spectroscopy data on 119 batches samples from two species and four origins in China were processed to the best pre-processed data. Subsequently, orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and random forest (RF) as the major chemometrics were used to analyse the best pre-processed data. The accuracy rates by OPLS-DA and RF were respectively 100% and 97.2% for the two species of AR, and respectively100% and 94.4% for the four origins of AR. Meanwhile, a quantitative correction model was established to rapidly and economically predict the seven triterpenoid contents of AR through combining the partial least squares (PLS) method and NIR spectroscopy, and taking the triterpenoid contents measured by UPLC as the reference value, and carry out spectral pre-processing methods and band selection. The final quantitative model correlation coefficients of the seven triterpenoid contents of AR ranged from 0.9000 to 0.9999, indicating that prediction ability of this model had good stability and applicability.

OBJECTIVE: Bipolar disorder is easily misdiagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). The Rapid Mood Screener (RMS) was developed to address this unmet clinical need. This study aims to translate and evaluated the reliability and validity of the RMS in Chinese adults with bipolar I/II disorder (BD-I/II). METHODS: Brislin's translation and Delphi method were conducted to formulate the RMS-Chinses version (RMS-C). Patients with MDD (N = 99), BD-I (N = 77) and BD-II (N = 78) were included to assess the validity and reliability of RMS-C. The area under the curve (AUC) was computed to ascertain the ability of the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) and RMS-C to distinguish BD-I and BD-II from MDD. The optimal cut-off scores for classification were also calculated by the maximum sensitivity and specificity. RESULTS: The intraclass correlation coefficient of the RMS-C was 0.82 (95%CI, 0.71-0.89). The content validity index by six items were 0.71, 0.86, 1.00, 0.86, 1.00, and 1.00 in turn, and by scales was 0.90. The AUCs of the RMS-C in both BD-I/II, BD-I alone and BD-II alone were 0.83 (95 % CI, 0.78-0.89), 0.82 (95 % CI, 0.75-0.89) and 0.85 (95 % CI, 0.79-0.91), respectively, and were comparably to the MDQ. The optimal RMS-C values of the presence of BD-I and BD-II were >4 and 3, respectively. CONCLUSION: The RMS-C is a valid, simple self-administer screening tool to help identify BD-I or BD-II in persons experiencing a depressive episode. Validating the impact of screening with the RMS-C on health outcomes and health economics is warranted.

Stressful life events (SLEs) and suicidal ideation (SI) are prevalent in persons with major depression disorder (MDD). Less is known about the underlying role of insomnia symptoms in the association between SLEs and SI. This three-wave prospective cohort study sought to investigate the longitudinal association among SLEs, insomnia symptoms, and SI in persons with MDD. The study population included 511 persons with MDD (mean [SD] age, 28.7 [6.7] years; 67.1% were females). Generalized estimated equations (GEEs) were utilized to explore prospective association among exposure of SLEs, insomnia symptoms, and SI. Additionally, a structural equation model (SEM) was employed to estimate the longitudinal mediating effect of insomnia symptoms in the relationship between SLEs and SI. Our study demonstrated that cumulative SLEs were determined to be longitudinally associated with SI in persons with MDD. We further observed that the association between SLEs and SI was significantly mediated by insomnia symptoms. Clinicians assessing persons with MDD, especially those with the history of SLE, could carefully evaluate and promptly treat insomnia symptoms as part of personalized assessment of their depressive illness, thereby achieving early prevention and intervention for suicidal behaviors in persons with MDD.

Previous studies have documented negative associations between somatic symptoms and remission of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the correlations of specific somatic symptoms with remission remain uncertain. We aimed to explore the associations between specific somatic symptoms and remission focusing on sex differences among patients with MDD. We used data from patients with MDD in the Depression Cohort in China. At baseline, total somatic symptoms were evaluated using the 28-item Somatic Symptoms Inventory and were categorized into pain, autonomic, energy, and central nervous system (CNS) symptoms. To measure remission of MDD, depressive symptoms were evaluated using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 after 3 months of treatment. We ultimately included 634 patients. Compared with quartile 1 of total somatic symptom scores, the full-adjusted ORs (95% CIs) for remission from quartile 2 to quartile 4 were 0.52 (0.30, 0.90), 0.44 (0.23, 0.83), and 0.36 (0.17, 0.75), respectively (P-value for trend = 0.005). The restricted cubic spline showed no non-linear associations between total somatic symptoms with remission (P-value for non-linear = 0.238). Pain, autonomic, and CNS symptoms showed similar results. Sex-stratified analysis showed that total somatic symptoms, pain symptoms, and autonomic symptoms were negatively correlated with remission in females, whereas CNS symptoms were negatively associated with remission in males. Our findings indicate that specific somatic symptoms exert differential effects on remission of MDD. Therapeutic interventions that target pain, autonomic, and CNS symptoms may increase the probability of remission. Furthermore, interventions for somatic symptoms should be tailored by sex, and females deserve more attention.
