RESUMO

As a novel two-dimensional material, violet phosphorus (VP) has attracted a considerable amount of attention due to its high carrier mobility, anisotropy, wide band gap, stability, and easy stripping properties. In this work, the microtribological properties of partially oxidized VP (oVP) and the mechanism of reducing friction and wear as additives in oleic acid (OA) oil were studied systematically. When adding oVP to OA, the coefficient of friction (COF) decreased from 0.084 to 0.014 with the steel-to-steel pair, and the ultralow shearing strength tribofilm consisting of amorphous carbon and phosphorus oxides that formed resulted in the reductions of COF and wear rate individually by 83.3% and 53.9%, respectively, compared with those of pure OA. The results extended the application scenarios for VP in the design of lubricant additives.

RESUMO

Background & objectives: The peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) has the advantages of higher safety, lower infection rate and longer retention time than peripherally inserted catheter. This study was aimed to evaluate the accuracy and safety of bedside electrocardiograph (ECG)-guided tip location technique in PICC in cancer patients, and compared with traditional chest radiography tip location technique. Methods: Patients were randomly assigned into two groups: The ECG test group patients underwent PICC insertion with ECG-guided tip location, while the control group patients had PICC insertion by the conventional method. The precision of tip location was verified by chest radiography in both groups. The groups were compared with regard to the accuracy of tip placement, anxiety levels before and after the procedure; medical cost and incidence of complications at one week, three months and six months after PICC insertion. Results: Accurate tip location was achieved in 99.30 per cent in the ECG test group vs 92.30 per cent in the control group (P<0.001). At 24 h after the procedure, the anxiety level was significantly lower in the ECG test group. The presence of thrombogenesis was significantly lower in the ECG test group at both three months and six months after the procedure (P=0.04 and P=0.03, respectively). Interpretation & conclusions: The ECG-guided PICC tip location technique was accurate and caused fewer procedure-related complications and less anxiety in patients compared to chest radiography tip location technique. Radiographic confirmation of PICC tip position may not be needed when ECG guidance is used and thus it can help avoid radiation exposure.

RESUMO

The presence of defects such as vacancies has a significant impact on the frictional properties of 2D materials that are excellent solid lubricants. In this study, we demonstrate that the nonmonotonic effect of Te vacancy defects on the friction of MoTe2 is related to the change in the maximum sliding energy barrier due to the variation in tip position. The experimental results of atomic force microscopy suggest that the friction shows an overall increasing trend with the increase in Te vacancy density, but this variation is nonmonotonic. Molecular dynamics simulations show that the increase in friction force with defect density can be attributed to the large and more sliding energy barriers that the tip has to overcome. Furthermore, the nonmonotonic variation of friction with defect density is dominated by the change of the maximum sliding potential barrier caused by the variation of tip position perpendicular to the sliding direction during the sliding process. Additionally, the uneven charge distribution due to charge transfer occurring at the defect also contributes to the increase in friction. This work shows the mechanism of the effect of Te vacancy defects on the friction of MoTe2, which provides guidance for the modulation of the frictional properties of solid lubricants.

RESUMO

A CoCrCuFeNi high-entropy alloy was successfully welded in this study using fiber laser welding. The effects of the welding parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties were studied. Three zones were formed: the fusion zone, partial melting zone, and base metal. The base metal exhibited a typical dendrite structure, and the Cu element segregated in the interdendrite. The fusion zone consisted of fine equiaxed crystals and columnar crystals with the same crystalline structure as the base metal. The fusion zone exhibited minimal compositional microsegregation after laser welding. Electron backscatter diffraction results showed that the low-angle grain boundary fraction in the fusion zone increased. Furthermore, some dislocations and dislocation pile-ups were present in the fusion zone, and the densities of the dislocations and dislocation pile-ups were higher than those of the base metal. The hardness of the fusion zone was considerably higher than that of the base metal, while the ultimate tensile strength and elongation values were lower than those of the base metal for all conditions. The ultimate tensile strength and the elongation increased gradually and then decreased with increasing laser power. The maximum ultimate tensile strength exceeded that of the base metal by 90%.

RESUMO

Gliomas are the most prevalent type of primary brain tumors in adults, accounting for more than 40% of neoplasm in the central nervous system. Frizzled-7 (FZD7) is a seven-pass trans-membrane Wnt receptor that plays a critical role in the development of various tumors. In this study, we detected high-level FZD7 expression in glioma and its overexpression was associated with advanced tumor stage. In vitro functional assays showed that forced overexpression of FZD7 promoted proliferation of gliomas cells, whereas knockdown of endogenous FZD7 significantly suppressed proliferation ability of these cells. In a xenograft assay, FZD7 was also found to promote the growth of glioma cells. We further found that FZD7 could activate transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ), and TAZ was required for FZD7 to promote cell proliferation in glioma. Furthermore, the univariate analysis of survival shows that glioma patients with high FZD7 expression have a shorter survival. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that FZD7 may promote glioma cell proliferation via upregulation of TAZ.
