RESUMO

High-entropy alloy nanoparticles (HEANs) possessing regulated defect structure and electron interaction exhibit a guideline for constructing multifunctional catalysts. However, the microstructure-activity relationship between active sites of HEANs for multifunctional electrocatalysts is rarely reported. In this work, HEANs distributed on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (HEAN/CNT) are prepared by Joule heating as an example to explain the mechanism of trifunctional electrocatalysis for oxygen reduction, oxygen evolution, and hydrogen evolution reaction. HEAN/CNT excels with unmatched stability, maintaining a 0.8V voltage window for 220 h in zinc-air batteries. Even after 20 h of water electrolysis, its performance remains undiminished, highlighting exceptional endurance and reliability. Moreover, the intrinsic characteristics of the defect structure and electron interaction for HEAN/CNT are investigated in detail. The electrocatalytic mechanism of trifunctional electrocatalysis of HEAN/CNT under different conditions is identified by in situ monitoring and theoretical calculation. Meanwhile, the electron interaction and adaptive regulation of active sites in the trifunctional electrocatalysis of HEANs were further verified by density functional theory. These findings could provide unique ideas for designing inexpensive multifunctional high-entropy electrocatalysts.

RESUMO

A FeCo/DA@NC catalyst with the well-defined FeCoN6 moiety is customized through a novel and ultrafast Joule heating technique. This catalyst demonstrates superior oxygen reduction reaction activity and stability in an alkaline environment. The power density and charge-discharge cycling of znic-air batteries driven by FeCo/DA@NC also surpass those of Pt/C catalyst. The source of the excellent oxygen reduction reaction activity of FeCo/DA@NC originates from the significantly changed charge environment and 3d orbital spin state. These not only improve the bonding strength between active sites and oxygen-containing intermediates, but also provide spare reaction sites for oxygen-containing intermediates. Moreover, various in situ detection techniques reveal that the rate-determining step in the four-electron oxygen reduction reaction is *O2 protonation. This work provides strong support for the precise design and rapid preparation of bimetallic catalysts and opens up new ideas for understanding orbital interactions during oxygen reduction reactions.

RESUMO

KEY MESSAGE: Lilium tsingtauense mitogenome comprises 27 independent chromosome molecules, it undergoes frequent genomic recombination, and the rate of recombination and mutation between different repetitive sequences affects the formation of multichromosomal structures. Given the extremely large genome of Lily, which likely harbors additional genetic resources, it serves as an ideal material for studying the phylogenetic evolution of organisms. Although the Lilium chloroplast genome has been documented, the sequence of its mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) remains uncharted. Using BGI short reads and Nanopore long reads, we sequenced, assembled, and annotated the mitogenome of Lilium tsingtauense. This effort culminated in the characterization of Lilium's first complete mitogenome. Comparative analysis with other angiosperms revealed the unique multichromosomal structure of the L. tsingtauense mitogenome, spanning 1,125,108 bp and comprising 27 independent circular chromosomes. It contains 36 protein-coding genes, 12 tRNA genes, and 3 rRNA genes, with a GC content of 44.90%. Notably, three chromosomes in the L. tsingtauense mitogenome lack identifiable genes, hinting at the potential existence of novel genes and noncoding elements. The high degree of observed genome fragmentation implies frequent reorganization, with recombination and mutation rates among diverse repetitive sequences likely driving the formation of multichromosomal structures. Our comprehensive analysis, covering genome size, coding genes, structure, RNA editing, repetitive sequences, and sequence migration, sheds light on the evolutionary and molecular biology of multichromosomal mitochondria in Lilium. This high-quality mitogenome of L. tsingtauense not only enriches our understanding of multichromosomal mitogenomes but also establishes a solid foundation for future genome breeding and germplasm innovation in Lilium.

RESUMO

Nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI), which has the advantages of small particle size, large specific surface area, and high reactivity, is often injected into contaminated aquifers in the form of slurry. However, the prone to passivation and agglomeration as well as poor stability and mobility of NZVI limit the further application of this technology in fields. Therefore, sulfided NZVI loaded on reduced graphene oxide (S-NZVI/rGO) and guar gum (GG) with shear-thinning properties as stabilizers were used to synthesize S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurries. SEM, TEM, and FT-IR confirmed that the dispersion and anti-passivation of NZVI were optimized in the coupled system. The stability and mobility of the slurry were improved by increasing the GG concentration, enhancing the pH, and decreasing the ionic strength and the presence of Ca2+ ions, respectively. A modified advection-dispersion equation (ADE) was used to simulate the transport experiments considering the strain and physicochemical deposition/release. Meanwhile, colloidal filtration theory (CFT) demonstrated that Brownian motion plays a dominant role in the migration of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry, and the maximum migration distance can be increased by appropriately increasing the injection rate. Extended-Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (XDLVO) theory showed that the excellent stability and migration of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry mainly came from the GG spatial forces. This study has important implications for the field injection of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry. According to the injection parameters, the injection range of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry is effectively controlled, which lays the foundation for the promotion of application in actual fields.

RESUMO

Total triterpenoids from the fruits of Chaenomeles speciosa(TCS) are active components in the prevention and treatment of gastric mucosal damage, which have potential anti-aging effects. However, it is still unclear whether TCS can improve gastric aging, especially its molecular mechanism against gastric aging. On this basis, this study explored the effect and mechanism of TCS on senescent GES-1 cells induced by D-galactose(D-gal) to provide scientific data for the clinical use of TCS to prevent gastric aging. GES-1 cells cultured in vitro and those transfected with overexpression GLS1(GLS1-OE) plasmid of glutaminase 1(GLS1) were induced to aging by D-gal, and then TCS and or GLS1 inhibitor bis-2-(5-phenylacetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) ethyl sulfide(BPTES) were given. Cell survival rate, positive rate of ß-galactosidase(SA-ß-gal) staining, mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP), and apoptosis were investigated. GLS1 activity, levels of glutamine(Gln), glutamate(Glu), α-ketoglutarate(α-KG), urea, and ammonia in supernatant and cells were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and colorimetric methods. The mRNA and protein expressions of GLS1 and the related genes of the mitochondrial apoptosis signaling pathway were measured by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blot. The results manifested that compared with the D-gal model group and GLS1-OE D-gal model group, TCS significantly decreased the SA-ß-gal staining positive cell rate and MMP of D-gal-induced senescent GES-1 cells and GLS1-OE senescent GES-1 cells, inhibited the survival of senescent cells, and promoted their apoptosis(P<0.01). It decreased the activity of GLS1 and the content of Gln, Glu, α-KG, urea, and ammonia in supernatant and cell(P<0.01), reduced the concentration of cytochrome C(Cyto C) in mitochondria and the mRNA and protein expressions of GLS1 and proliferating nuclear antigen in cells(P<0.01). The mRNA expression of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl, the protein expression of pro-caspase-9 and pro-caspase-3, and the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax and Bcl-xl/Bad in cells were decreased(P<0.01). Cyto C concentration in the cytoplasm, the mRNA expressions of Bax, Bad, apoptosis protease activating factor 1(Apaf-1), and protein expressions of cleaved-caspase-9, cleaved-caspase-3, cleaved-PARP-1 were increased(P<0.01). The aforementioned results indicate that TCS can counteract the senescent GES-1 cells induced by D-gal, and its mechanism may be closely related to suppressing the Gln/GLS1/α-KG metabolic axis, activating the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway, and thereby accelerating the apoptosis of the senescent cells and eliminating senescent cells.

RESUMO

Carbamoyl-Hantzsch esters were used as carbamoyl radical precursors for oxidative carbamoylation of N-arylacrylamides and N-arylcinnamamides in the presence of inexpensive persulfates. This protocol can be applied to a broad range of substrates with various functional groups, providing a variety of 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles and 3,4-disubstituted dihydroquinolin-2(1H)-ones in moderate to good yields via an intermolecular addition/cyclization process.

RESUMO

The typical refractory organic pollutant, humic acid (HA), causes many water and wastewater treatment obstacles. In this study, a novel method was proposed to degrade HA based on the low-temperature (<100 °C) catalytic air oxidation technology (LTCAO) using the NiCo-spinel (NCO) as a catalyst and the sulfite as a promoter. Sulfite enhanced the quantity of mineralized HA to 2.4 times that without sulfite assistance, and the removal rate of total organic carbon reached 93.1% within 60 min at 90 °C. HA gradually degrades into small organic molecules and is mineralized through interfacial reactions and radical paths. Sulfite plays a triple role in these reactions. Sulfite sulfonated HA destroyed its pseudomicellar structure, making HA easily oxidized. Sulfite also coordinated with NCO and promoted the internal electronic hopping conduction of NCO because of the fast electron transfer between SO32- and the h+sites, thus accelerating the electron transfer between HA and O2 mediated by NCO. In addition, the coordinated SO32- was activated to form the radical ∙SO3-, which strengthened the oxidation of HA. This study supports a simple and green method for efficiently cleaning water and wastewater rich in HA.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Universal social medical insurance coverage is viewed as a major factor in promoting social integration, but insufficient evidence exists on the integration of elderly rural migrants (ERM), generally aged 60 years and above, in low- and middle-income countries. To address this problem, we explore the relationship between the location of social medical insurance (SMI), such as a host city, and social integration in the context of Chinese ERM. METHODS: This study is based on data from the 2017 National Internal Migrant Dynamic Monitoring Survey in China. The study participants were Chinese ERM. An integration index was constructed to measure the degree of social integration in a multi-dimensional manner using a factor analysis method. This study used descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance to explore the differences in social integration between ERM with SMI from host cities and hometowns. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was used to test the correlation between SMI location and social integration level in the overall sample. Finally, the results were verified by propensity score matching. RESULTS: It was found that 606 (18.2%) of the insured ERM chose host city SMI, while 2727 (81.8%) chose hometown SMI. The level of social integration was lower among ERM with hometown SMI (-1.438 ± 32.795, F = 28.311, p ≤ 0.01) than those with host city SMI (6.649 ± 34.383). Among the dimensions of social integration, social participation contributed more than other factors, with a contribution rate of 45.42%. Host city SMI increased the probability of the social integration index by 647% among ERM (k-nearest neighbor caliper matched (n = 4, caliper = 0.02), with a full sample ATT value of 6.47 (T = 5.32, SE = 1.48, p < 0.05)). CONCLUSIONS: ERM with host city SMI have a higher social integration level than those with hometowns SMI. That is, host city SMI positively affects social integration. Policymakers should focus on the access of host city SMI for ERM. Removing the threshold of host city SMI coverage for ERM can promote social integration.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Alignment is indispensable for the foot and ankle function, especially in the hindfoot alignment. In the preoperative planning of patients with varus or valgus deformity, the precise measurement of the hindfoot alignment is important. A new method of photographing and measuring hindfoot alignment based on X-ray was proposed in this study, and it was applied in the assessment of flatfoot. METHODS: This study included 28 patients (40 feet) with flatfeet and 20 volunteers (40 feet) from January to December 2018. The hindfoot alignment shooting stand independently designed by our department was used to take hindfoot alignment X-rays at 10 degree, 15 degree, 20 degree, 25 degree, and 30 degree. We measured the modified tibio-hindfoot angle (THA) at the standard hindfoot aligment position (shooting at 20 degree) and evaluated consistency with the van Dijk method and the modified van Dijk method. In addition, we observed the visibility of the tibiotalar joint space from all imaging data at five projection angles and evaluated the consistency of the modified THA method at different projection angles. The angle of hindfoot valgus of flatfoot patients was measured using the modified THA method. RESULTS: The mean THA in the standard hindfoot aligment view in normal people was significantly different among the three evaluation methods (P < .001). The results from the modified THA method were significantly larger than those from the Van Dijk method (P < .001) and modified Van Dijk method (P < .001). There was no significant difference between the results of the modified THA method and the weightbearing CT (P = .605), and the intra- and intergroup consistency were the highest in the modified THA group. The tibiotalar space in the normal group was visible in all cases at 10 degree, 15 degree, and 20 degree; visible in some cases at 25 degree; and not visible in all cases at 30 degree. In the flatfoot group, the tibiotalar space was visible in all cases at 10 degree, visible in some cases at 15 degree and 20 degree, and not visible in all cases at 25 degree and 30 degree. In the normal group, the modified THA was 4.84 ± 1.81 degree at 10 degree, 4.96 ± 1.77 degree at 15 degree, and 4.94 ± 2.04 degree at 20 degree. No significant differences were found among the three groups (P = .616). In the flatfoot group, the modified THA of 18 feet, which was visible at 10 degree, 15 degree and 20 degree, was 13.58 ± 3.57 degree at 10 degree, 13.62 ± 3.83 degree at 15 degree and 13.38 ± 4.06 degree at 20 degree. There were no significant differences among the three groups (P = .425). CONCLUSIONS: The modified THA evaluation method is simple to use and has high inter- and intragroup consistency. It can be used to evaluate hindfoot alignment. For patients with flatfeet, the 10 degree position view and modified THA measurement can be used to evaluate hindfoot valgus.

RESUMO

Neurofilament light chain (NF-L) plays critical roles in synapses that are relevant to neuropsychiatric diseases. Despite postmortem evidence that NF-L is decreased in opiate abusers, its role and underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. We found that the microinjection of the histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor Trichostatin A (TSA) into the ventrolateral orbital cortex (VLO) attenuated chronic morphine-induced behavioral sensitization. The microinjection of TSA blocked the chronic morphine-induced decrease of NF-L. However, our chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)-qPCR results indicated that this effect was not due to the acetylation of histone H3-Lysine 9 and 14 binding to the NF-L promotor. In line with the behavioral phenotype, the microinjection of TSA also blocked the chronic morphine-induced increase of p-ERK/p-CREB/p-NF-L. Finally, we compared chronic and acute morphine-induced behavioral sensitization. We found that although both chronic and acute morphine-induced behavioral sensitization were accompanied by an increase of p-CREB/p-NF-L, TSA exhibited opposing effects on behavioral phenotype and molecular changes at different addiction contexts. Thus, our findings revealed a novel role of NF-L in morphine-induced behavioral sensitization, and therefore provided some correlational evidence of the involvement of NF-L in opiate addiction.

RESUMO

Although many technologies can be applied to sewage sludge (SS) and food waste (FW) treatment, high investment and operational costs, high land occupation, and the "not-in-my-backyard" effect pose many challenges in practice. Thus, it is important to develop and utilize low-carbon or negative-carbon technologies to tackle the carbon problem. This paper proposes a method of anaerobic co-digestion of FW and SS, thermally hydrolyzed sludge (THS), or THS filtrate (THF) to enhance their methane potential. Compared to the co-digestion of SS with FW, the methane yield of the co-digestion of THS and FW was 9.7-69.7% higher, and that of the co-digestion of THF and FW was 11.1-101.1% higher. The synergistic effect was weakened with the addition of THS but enhanced with the addition of THF, potentially owing to the change in humic substances. Filtration removed most humic acids (HAs) from THS but retained fulvic acids (FAs) in THF. Moreover, THF produced 71.4% of the methane yield of THS, although only 25% of the organic matter permeated from THS to THF. This indicated that hardly biodegradable substances remained in the dewatering cake and were removed from anaerobic digestion systems. The results indicate that the co-digestion of THF and FW is an effective way to enhance methane production.

RESUMO

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), a prevalent sleep disorder in children, is characterized by recurring upper airway obstruction during sleep. OSAS in children can cause intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation, ultimately affect brain development and further lead to cognitive impairment if lack of timely effective intervention. In recent years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) have been employed to investigate brain structure and function abnormalities in children with OSAS. Previous studies have indicated that children with OSAS showed extensive gray and white matter damage, abnormal brain function in regions such as the frontal lobe and hippocampus, as well as a significant decline in general cognitive function and executive function. However, the existing studies mainly focused on the regional activity, and the mechanism of pediatric OSAS affecting brain networks remains unknown. Moreover, it's unclear whether the alterations in brain structure and function are associated with their cognitive impairment. In this review article, we proposed two future research directions: 1) future studies should utilize the multimodal neuroimaging techniques to reveal the alterations of brain networks organization underlying pediatric OSAS; 2) further investigation is necessary to explore the relationship between brain network alteration and cognitive dysfunction in children with OSAS. With these efforts, it will be promising to identify the neuroimaging biomarkers for monitoring the brain development of children with OSAS as well as aiding its clinical diagnosis, and ultimately develop more effective strategies for intervention, diagnosis, and treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The efficacy of immunotherapy for lung cancer is closely related to immune cell infiltration. Arachidonic acid 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5) can activate inflammatory responses and trigger various cell death patterns; however, the relevance of ALOX5 to immune cell infiltration in lung cancer is unclear. The expression of ALOX5 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is analyzed using an online database to explore the correlation between ALOX5 and immune cell infiltration in NSCLC and its relationship with prognosis. METHODS: Differences in ALOX5 expression in NSCLC and normal lung tissues were analyzed by online databases such as TIMER, GEPIA and HPA; the UALCAN database was used to reveal the relationship between ALOX5 and clinical features; Kaplan-Meier database was applied to explore the prognostic value of ALOX5; GeneMANIA and String Website was used to explore genes and proteins associated with ALOX5 expression, respectively; the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis were used to analyze ALOX5 differential genes which were picked up through the TCGA database; GSEA software was applied to predict the signal pathways that ALOX5 may be involved in; and the TIMER database was used to analyze the effect of ALOX5 expression on the level of immune cell infiltration. RESULTS: Compared with the normal lung tissues, the ALOX5 expression was low in NSCLC tissues (P<0.05), and which affected the prognosis of lung cancer patients. The expression level of ALOX5 was related to clinical features such as sex, age, metastasis, and pathological staging in NSCLC patients (all P<0.05). The gene interaction network analysis found that the genes interacting with ALOX5 mainly included the genes related to lipid oxidation and pro-inflammatory mediators such as coactosin like protein 1 (COTL1), leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S), and prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), and the protein-protein interaction analysis results were consistent. GO and KEGG analysis found that ALOX5 was involved in the biological process of activation of immune cell function and was involved in immune response function pathways. The GSEA analysis showed that ALOX5 may activate immune responses and mediate immune-related prognosis by affecting the cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions, natural killer-mediated cytotoxicity, and T cell receptor signaling pathways. The ALOX5 mRNA expressions in lung adenocarcinoma and lung squamous cell carcinoma were positively correlated with the tumor infiltration immune cells (B cells, CD8+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, etc.) (all P<0.05), and the ALOX5 mRNA expression was positively correlated with the expression of classic T cell immune checkpoint inhibitor genes (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The ALOX5 gene expression in NSCLC is significantly downregulated, and which can affect NSCLC prognosis and immune cell infiltration levels. ALOX5 gene may be a potential biomarker of NSCLC prognosis associated with immune cell infiltration.

RESUMO

A novel type of covalent organic frameworks has been developed by assembling definite cobalt-nitrogen-carbon configurations onto carbon nanotubes using linkers that have varying electronic effects. This innovative approach has resulted in an efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction, which is understood by a combination of in situ spectroelectrochemistry and the bond order theorem. The strong interaction between the electron-donating carbon nanotubes and the electron-accepting linker mitigates the trend of charge loss at cobalt sites, while inducing the generation of high spin state. This enhances the adsorption strength and electron transfer between the cobalt center and reactants/intermediates, leading to an improved oxygen reduction capability. This work not only presents an effective strategy for developing efficient non-noble metal electrocatalysts through reticular chemistry, but also provides valuable insights into regulating the electronic configuration and charge behavior of active sites in designing high-performance electrocatalysts.

RESUMO

Transparent conductive films with high stability were prepared by embedding silver nanowires in colorless polyimide and adding a protective layer of exfoliated graphene. The films exhibit great light transmission and conductivity with a sheet resistance of 22 Ω sq-1at transmittance of 83%. Due to its special embedded structure, the conductive layer can withstand several peeling experiments without falling off. In addition, the most outstanding advantage is the ultra-high stability of the films, including high mechanical robustness, strong chemical corrosion resistance and high operating voltage capacity. The organic light-emitting diode devices prepared based on this transparent conductive electrode exhibit comparable efficiency to indium tin oxide (ITO) based devices, withC.E.max= 2.78 cd A-1,P-1.E.max= 1.89 lm W-1,EQEmax= 0.89%. Moreover, the efficiencies were even higher than that of ITO devices when the operating voltage of the device exceeds 5 V. The above performances show that the transparent conductive electrode based on this structure has high potential for application in organic electronic devices.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Traditional medial malleolar osteotomy combined with autologous osteochondral transplantation (AOT) is mostly used in the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs), but with high osteotomy and donor site complications. We hypothesis a new triplane medial malleolar osteotomy combined with AOT from non-weight-bearing area of the talus could be a promising choice for OLTs. METHODS: We reviewed all the symptomatic OLTs patients who received AOT with triplane osteotomy of the medial malleolus between September 2015 and December 2017 in our department. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 patients (23 ankles), including 14 males and 9 females, were included in the study. The mean age was 35.6 years. The mean size of the lesion area was 141.5 mm2. According Ferkel's classification, including 5 type I, 11 typeIIa and 7 typeIIb. The visual analog scale (VAS) for pain during walking and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score were used for the pre- and postoperative evaluations. In addition, the incorporation of the grafts was assessed by computed tomography (CT). RESULTS: All patients had a minimum follow-up of 22 months, with an average of 37.1 months. The mean time from osteotomy to full weight-bearing activity was 8.1 ± 2.3 weeks (range, 5-12 weeks). The mean VAS score improved from 5.6 ± 0.7 preoperatively to 0.7 ± 1.0 postoperatively (P < 0.01). The AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score improved significantly in all domains (P < 0.01). Twenty-one patients returned to sport at their previous level, and 2 returned at a lower level compared with preinjury (mean return to play, 7.4 months). According to CT, the medial malleolus recovered in all patients, and the graft was incorporated well. One patient suffered from flexor hallucis longus tendon discomfort due to internal fixation screw irritation posteromedial to the ankle. The general complication rate was 4.3% (1/23). CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that AOT combined with medial malleolus triplane osteotomy maybe a viable option for OLTs. Patients could perform weight-bearing exercise and return to sport as early as possible, with a lower rate of complications at the osteotomy site and donor site. However, the large sample well-designed prospective comparative studies are still needed.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Regular retrospective analysis is necessary for potential improvement in clinical practice for the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds. Comorbidities and outcomes have demonstrated spatial and temporal diversity, emphasising the importance of updates in epidemiology. The complexity of healing hard-to-heal wounds has long been known, and so we sought evidence-based improvement on the current principles of treatment. METHOD: Demographic and clinical information of patients from the WoundCareLog database was collected. Patients who met the inclusion criteria and completed follow-up after treatment were included. Comorbidities were diagnosed and classified into eight categories based on ICD-10. We compared the demographic and aetiological characteristics between patients with and without comorbidities by t-test and Chi-squared test. The impact of comorbidities on wound healing were evaluated with a multivariate Cox model. RESULTS: A total of 2163 patients met the inclusion criteria and were enrolled, of whom 37.0% were aged 61-80 years, 36.0% were aged 41-60 years and 60.8% were male. The lower extremities and buttocks were the most commonly affected areas with hard-to-heal wounds. Non-traumatic wounds accounted for 66.6% of cases, and infection, pressure and diabetes were the most common causes. Paralysis and diabetes were the most important factors which led to a prolonged healing process and inferior clinical outcomes. CONCLUSION: Comorbidities of hard-to-heal wounds were treated as separate contributors and their weighted effect on outcome was calculated through correlation analysis. Paralysis and diabetes were the most unfavourable comorbidities affecting the treatment of non-traumatic hard-to-heal wounds. Our study highlighted the priority of comorbidity treatment through data-driven approaches. It provides potential value in developing better public health strategies and preventive medicine.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is the most commonly used surgical technique for talar neck fracture, but there are high risks for complications and poor functional outcomes. In this study, we reported the closed reduction and percutaneous internal fixation (CRPIF) technique of the bilateral approach of the Achilles tendon for simple displaced talar neck fracture, in comparison with ORIF. METHODS: Data of 15 patients in the CRPIF group and 22 in the ORIF group were included. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score, 12-item Short-Form Survey (SF-12) score, range of motion (ROM), complications, and radiographic results were recorded and compared. RESULTS: The mean follow-up in the CRPIF group was 33.9 months. Complications included two cases of avascular necrosis (AVN) and two cases of osteoarthritis. All patients achieved bony union and recovered their pre-operative mobility. The mean follow-up in the ORIF group was 39 months. Complications included two cases of bony nonunion, nine AVN, and seven cases of osteoarthritis. Moreover, the mobility of the ORIF group was significantly lower than the CRPIF group post-operatively. The AOFAS score, VAS score, and SF-12 physical component score (PCS) for the CRPIF group were better improved than those for the ORIF group (ALL, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The CRPIF technique of the bilateral approach of the Achilles tendon was an effective method for the treatment of simple displaced talar neck fractures. Compared with the ORIF, the limited blood supply of the talus was protected, provide better functional outcomes and biomechanical fixation, and lower incidence of resurgery and complication in the CRPIF.

RESUMO

In this study, the secondary osteoporosis model was induced by oral administration of retinoic acid for two weeks in SD male rats. The efficacy and mechanism of LG on secondary osteoporosis in rats were explored through the bone morphogenetic protein 2(BMP-2)/Runt-related transcription factor 2(Runx2)/Osterix signaling pathway. With Xianling Gubao Capsules(XLGB) as the positive control, three dose groups of low glycoside from Epimedii Folium flavonoids(LG), i.e., low-dose group(LG-L), medium-dose group(LG-M), and high-dose group(LG-H), were set up. After modeling, the rats in each group were treated correspondingly by gavage for eight weeks. The action target of LG in the treatment of secondary osteoporosis in rats was analyzed by measuring the body weight and the organ indexes of rats including heart index and testis index. The efficacy of LG was characterized by the pathological changes of the femur, the microstructural parameters of the trabecular bone, and the biomechanical properties of femoral tissues in rats. The mechanism of LG was explored by measuring the relevant biochemical indexes and the changes in BMP-2, Runx2, and Osterix content in rats with secondary osteoporosis. The results showed that the action target of LG in the treatment of secondary osteoporosis in rats was the testis. LG can improve the bone loss of the femur, increase the number and thickness of the trabecular bone, reduce the porosity and separation of the trabecular bone, potentiate the resistance of bone to deformation and destruction, up-regulate the serum content of Ca, P, aminoterminal propeptide of type Ⅰ procollagen(PINP), and osteocalcin(OC), promote bone matrix calcification and the expression of BMP-2, Runx2, and Osterix proteins, and accelerate bone formation, thereby reducing the risk of fractures, and ultimately exerting anti-secondary osteoporosis efficacy.

RESUMO

The taste is the quality attribute for the development and production of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). To improve the medication compliance of the big brand TCM, Xiaoer Ganmao Oral Liquid, a correlation model between the electronic tongue sensor signal value and human sensory evaluation score was established, and an optimization strategy of taste improvement for Xiaoer Ganmao Oral Liquid was developed with the key techniques of statistical experimental design. Based on the above model, the optimal formulation was determined as follows: aspartame content of 1-2 mg·mL~(-1), acesulfame-K content of 1.5-3 mg·mL~(-1), and steviol glycoside content of 1-2 mg·mL~(-1). Furthermore, the optimal formulation was verified by human sensory evaluation. Therefore, the taste of Xiaoer Ganmao Oral Liquid was improved. Taking Xiaoer Ganmao Oral Liquid as an example, the present study developed the taste formulation optimization method based on the correlation between the electronic tongue and human sensory evaluation, which is expected to provide an important reference to improve the taste of oral liquid of TCM.
