RESUMO

We propose a nonlinear probabilistic generative model of Koopman mode decomposition based on an unsupervised gaussian process. Existing data-driven methods for Koopman mode decomposition have focused on estimating the quantities specified by Koopman mode decomposition: eigenvalues, eigenfunctions, and modes. Our model enables the simultaneous estimation of these quantities and latent variables governed by an unknown dynamical system. Furthermore, we introduce an efficient strategy to estimate the parameters of our model by low-rank approximations of covariance matrices. Applying the proposed model to both synthetic data and a real-world epidemiological data set, we show that various analyses are available using the estimated parameters.

An S-shaped double azahelicene (1) was synthesized in excellent yield by a palladium-catalyzed double dehydrogenative C-H coupling reaction. The stereochemistry of 1 was confirmed to be dl by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Selective formation of dl-1 was attributed to the isomerization of the kinetically controlled product (meso-1) into the more thermodynamically stable dl-1 under the applied reaction conditions. dl-1 can coordinate to palladium(II) in a bidentate trans-chelating fashion, which was confirmed by X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) as well as by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), diffuse reflectance (DR) UV/Vis, and far-infrared (FIR) absorption spectroscopy. Theoretical calculations of palladium complex 16 revealed a weak attractive interaction between palladium and carbon atoms on the central dimethoxynaphthalene core, which could facilitate a disproportionation between a trans-chelating (dl-1)⋅PdCl2 complex and PdCl2 to form 16.

Substorm onset has originally been defined as a longitudinally extended sudden auroral brightening (Akasofu initial brightening: AIB) followed a few minutes later by an auroral poleward expansion in ground-based all-sky images (ASIs). In contrast, such clearly marked two-stage development has not been evident in satellite-based global images (GIs). Instead, substorm onsets have been identified as localized sudden brightenings that expand immediately poleward. To resolve these differences, optical substorm onset signatures in GIs and ASIs are compared in this study for a substorm that occurred on December 7, 1999. For this substorm, the Polar satellite ultraviolet global imager was operated with a fixed-filter (170 nm) mode, enabling a higher time resolution (37 s) than usual to resolve the possible two-stage development. These data were compared with 20-s resolution green-line (557.7 nm) ASIs at Muonio in Finland. The ASIs revealed the AIB at 2124:50 UT and the subsequent poleward expansion at 2127:50 UT, whereas the GIs revealed only an onset brightening that started at 2127:49 UT. Thus, the onset in the GIs was delayed relative to the AIB and in fact agreed with the poleward expansion in the ASIs. The fact that the AIB was not evident in the GIs may be attributed to the limited spatial resolution of GIs for thin auroral arc brightenings. The implications of these results for the definition of substorm onset are discussed herein.

Parallel manipulation of single cells is important for reconstructing in vivo cellular microenvironments and studying cell functions. To manipulate single cells and reconstruct their environments, development of a versatile manipulation tool is necessary. In this study, we developed an array of hollow probes using microelectromechanical systems fabrication technology and demonstrated the manipulation of single cells. We conducted a cell aspiration experiment with a glass pipette and modeled a cell using a standard linear solid model, which provided information for designing hollow stepped probes for minimally invasive single-cell manipulation. We etched a silicon wafer on both sides and formed through holes with stepped structures. The inner diameters of the holes were reduced by SiO2 deposition of plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition to trap cells on the tips. This fabrication process makes it possible to control the wall thickness, inner diameter, and outer diameter of the probes. With the fabricated probes, single cells were manipulated and placed in microwells at a single-cell level in a parallel manner. We studied the capture, release, and survival rates of cells at different suction and release pressures and found that the cell trapping rate was directly proportional to the suction pressure, whereas the release rate and viability decreased with increasing the suction pressure. The proposed manipulation system makes it possible to place cells in a well array and observe the adherence, spreading, culture, and death of the cells. This system has potential as a tool for massively parallel manipulation and for three-dimensional hetero cellular assays.

AIM: Interview quality is an important factor in the success of clinical trials for major depressive disorder (MDD). There is a substantial need to establish a reliable, remote clinical assessment interview system that can replace traditional in-person interviews. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter, randomized, unblinded, prospective, cross-sectional study to assess the reliability of remote interviews in patients with MDD (UMIN000041839). Eligible patients with MDD underwent remote and in-person sessions of the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) assessment performed by different raters within 28 days of providing consent. Patients were randomized to a group first assessed using in-person interviews and secondarily using remote interviews (in-person-first group) or a group first assessed by remote interviews and secondarily using in-person interviews (remote-first group). Nineteen trained people (15 clinical psychologists, 3 nurses, and 1 clinical laboratory technologist) performed interviews. RESULTS: Of 59 patients (in-person-first group, n = 32; remote-first group, n = 27) who completed both remote and in-person interviews, 51% (n = 30) were women; the mean age was 41.6 years (range, 21-64 years). There was a strong association between remote and in-person MADRS scores (r = 0.891, kappa = 0.901). An overall intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.886 (95% confidence interval, 0.877-0.952) indicated good consistency between MADRS scores in remote and in-person interviews. The ICC decreased as the severity of depression increased. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest remote interviews are a feasible alternative option to in-person interviews in assessing symptom severity in MDD patients and could promote clinical trials in Japan.

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the patient's journey to epilepsy surgery and identify the risk factors contributing to surgical delay in pediatric patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) due to focal cortical dysplasia (FCD). METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of 93 pediatric patients who underwent curative epilepsy surgery for FCD between January 2012 and March 2023 at a tertiary epilepsy center. The Odyssey plot demonstrated the treatment process before epilepsy surgery, including key milestones of epilepsy onset, first hospital visit, epilepsy diagnosis, MRI diagnosis, DRE diagnosis, and surgery. The primary outcome was surgical delay; the duration from DRE to surgery. Multivariate linear regression models were used to examine the association between surgical delay and clinical, investigative, and treatment characteristics. RESULTS: The median age at seizure onset was 1.3 years (interquartile range [IQR] 0.14-3.1), and at the time of surgery, it was 6 years (range 1-11). Notably, 46% experienced surgical delays exceeding two years. The Odyssey plot visually highlighted that surgical delay comprised a significant portion of the patient journey. Although most patients underwent MRI before referral, MRI abnormalities were identified before referral only in 39% of the prolonged group, compared to 70% of the non-prolonged group. Multivariate analyses showed that delayed notification of MRI abnormalities, longer duration from epilepsy onset to DRE, older age at onset, number of antiseizure medications tried, and moderate to severe intellectual disability were significantly associated with prolonged surgical delay. CONCLUSION: Pediatric DRE patients with FCD experienced a long journey until surgery. Early and accurate identification of MRI abnormalities is important to minimize surgical delays.

OBJECTIVE: Glioma and meningioma require vastly different surgical approaches, even if only involving a simple craniotomy procedure. Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) is useful for the postoperative evaluation of ischemic damage. The present study evaluated the expected but unproven differences in DWI findings. METHODS: A total of 41 patients with meningiomas and 63 with gliomas met the inclusion criteria for adult cases with superficial lesions treated through simple supratentorial craniotomy. Postoperative DWI findings of DWI-positive rate, DWI-positive area type, and relationship with neurological deficits were evaluated. RESULTS: The DWI-positive rate (P = 0.01) and the proportion of rim-type lesions (P < 0.01) were significantly more common in gliomas. Patients with meningiomas and DWI-positive areas presented with higher rates of new neurological deficits (P < 0.01), and patients with meningiomas on the left side were more likely to develop new neurological deficits (P = 0.02). Patients with gliomas tended to develop new deficits with larger DWI-positive area volumes (P = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative early DWI-positive rate and rim-type lesions are more common after glioma resection than meningioma resection. Larger volumes of DWI-positive areas may be associated with postoperative neurological symptoms in gliomas. DWI-positive finding is less common after meningioma than glioma resection but more likely to be associated with new neurological symptoms. These differences are important for adequate postoperative DWI evaluation of common supratentorial brain tumors.

OBJECTIVE: Hemispherotomy is an effective treatment for intractable hemispheric epilepsy; however, hydrocephalus remains a common complication of the procedure. The causes of hydrocephalus following hemispherotomy have not been fully elucidated; therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with the condition. METHODS: The authors investigated the records of all patients aged < 18 years who underwent hemispherotomy at their institution between 2003 and 2020 and were monitored for hydrocephalus for at least 1 year after the procedure. To identify the risk factors for hydrocephalus, the following information about each patient was collected: sex, corrected age at surgery, body weight at surgery, previous intracranial surgery, etiology of epilepsy, results of PET for hypermetabolism, side of surgery, type of operation (vertical or horizontal approach), operation time, blood loss during surgery, use of intraventricular drainage, occurrence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) on the 1st postoperative day, duration of postoperative fever of > 38°C, and maximum C-reactive protein level after the operation. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. RESULTS: This study included 51 children who underwent hemispherotomies for drug-resistant epilepsy at our hospital. Seven patients (13.7%) experienced hydrocephalus and were treated with ventricular or subdural peritoneal shunts or fenestration. Multivariate logistic analysis using the Bayesian information criterion revealed that 3 factors were associated with the occurrence of hydrocephalus: age at surgery, postoperative IVH volume, and duration of postoperative fever of > 38°C. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that younger age at surgery, postoperative IVH volume, and duration of postoperative fever of > 38°C might be risk factors for hydrocephalus after hemispherotomy. The risk of hydrocephalus should be considered in cases of early surgical indication in children. Intraoperative hemostasis and postoperative use of anti-inflammatory measures may reduce the risk of hydrocephalus.

Microvibrations onboard greenhouse gases observing satellite (GOSAT) cause scan speed variations in the TANSO Fourier transform spectrometer. The associated periodic sampling errors generate ghost features in O2 A-band spectra, where surface pressure and aerosol properties are retrieved to determine the optical path through the atmosphere. A correction algorithm has been developed to re-compute the interferograms at equally spaced sampling intervals. The key is to determine iteratively the amplitude and phase of sinusoidal perturbations with predetermined frequencies to minimize the magnitude of the out-of-band ghosts artifacts after correction of the sampling grid. This correction algorithm drastically reduces errors in retrieved surface pressure and improves agreement with ground-based observations.

Methylmercury pollution is a global problem, and Minamata disease (MD) is a stark reminder that exposure to methylmercury can cause irreversible neurological damage. A "glove and stocking type" sensory disturbance due to injured primary sensory cortex (SI) (central somatosensory disturbance) is the most common neurologic sign in MD. As this sign is also prevalent in those with polyneuropathy, we aimed to develop an objective assessment for detecting central somatosensory disturbances in cases of chronic MD. We selected 289 healthy volunteers and 42 patients with MD. We recorded the sensory nerve action potentials (SNAPs) and somatosensory evoked magnetic fields (SEFs) to median nerve stimulation with magnetoencephalography. Single-trial epochs were classified into three categories (N20m, non-response, and P20m epochs) based on the cross-correlation between averaged sensor SEFs and individual epochs. We assessed SI responses (the appearance rate of P20m [P20m rate] and non-response epochs [non-response rate]) and early somatosensory cortical processing (N20m amplitude, reproducibility of N20m in single-trial responses [cross-correlation value], and induced gamma-band oscillations of the SI [gamma response] of single epochs excluding non-response epochs). Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were used to examine the diagnostic accuracy of each parameter. We found that SNAPs exerted a marginal effect on the N20m. The N20m amplitude, cross-correlation value, and gamma response were significantly reduced in the MD group on either side (p < 0.0001), suggestive of altered early somatosensory cortical processing. Interestingly, the P20m rate and non-response rate were significantly increased in the MD group on either side (p < 0.0001), thereby suggesting impaired SI responses. Notably, P20m and absent N20m peaks were observed in 6 and 11 patients with MD, respectively, which may be attributed to increased numbers of P20m epochs. The cross-correlation value exhibited the highest correlation with the P20m rate or non-response rate. Thus, reduced reproducibility of N20m may play an important role in chronic MD. The cross-correlation value exhibited the highest correlation with the gamma response for both SI parameters in early somatosensory cortical processing. The area under the curve was > 0.77 (range: 0.77-0.79) for all parameters. Their confidence intervals overlapped with each other; thus, each SEF parameter likely had an approximately equivalent discrimination ability. In conclusion, chronic MD is characterized by impaired SI responses and alterations in early somatosensory cortical processing. Thus, single-trial neuromagnetic analysis of somatosensory function may be useful for detecting central somatosensory disturbance and elucidating the relevant pathophysiological mechanisms even in the context of chronic MD.

BACKGROUND: Pituitary apoplexy rarely causes internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion and acute ischemic stroke. Some cases have been reported, but the neuroimaging findings, including cerebral angiography, have not been discussed. OBSERVATIONS: A 55-year-old male suffered the sudden onset of right cervical pain and left mild hemiparesis. Computed tomography indicated a pituitary mass, and magnetic resonance angiography showed a right ICA occlusion. The initial diagnosis was ICA occlusion caused by ICA dissection. His symptoms worsened and the region of cerebral infarction expanded, so the patient was transferred to our hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging and cerebral angiography showed the sudden stoppage of right ICA blood flow caused by local compression of the tumor near the distal dural ring. The diagnosis was acute ischemic stroke resulting from ICA pseudo-occlusion caused by pituitary apoplexy, and emergent endoscopic transsphenoidal resection was performed. Postoperatively, the right ICA was completely patent, and hemiparesis was improved with rehabilitation. LESSONS: ICA occlusion caused by pituitary apoplexy is very rare, but emergent treatment is necessary. However, the pathology is difficult to diagnose quickly. Neuroimaging findings showing that the ICA is easily stenosed or occluded if rapidly compressed by the tumor near the distal dural ring may be useful to rapidly diagnose and treat.

OBJECTIVE: Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is a milder variant of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a lethal X-linked muscular disorder. Here, we aim to investigat the clinical involvement of skeletal, respiratory, cardiac, and central nervous systems in patients with BMD, as well as genotype-phenotype relationships. METHODS: This nationwide cohort study investigated the clinical manifestations and genotype-phenotype relationships in 225 patients with BMD having in-frame deletion from 22 medical centers. The primary outcome was to elucidate the association of genotype with skeletal muscle, respiratory, cardiac, and central nervous system disorders. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: The average age of the subjects was 31.5 (range, 1-81) years. Initial symptoms of BMD were muscular (60%), followed by asymptomatic hypercreatine kinasemia (32.4%) and central nervous system disorders (5.3%). Gait disturbance was observed in 53.8% of patients and the average age at wheelchair introduction was 36.5 years. The ventilator introduction rate was 6.7% at an average age of 36.6 years. More than 30% of patients had an abnormal electrocardiogram and approximately 15% had heart failure symptoms. Cardiac function on echocardiography varied significantly among the patients. The frequencies of seizures and intellectual/developmental disability were 8.0% and 16.9%, respectively. Exon 45-47deletion (del) was the most common (22.6%), followed by exon 45-48del (13.1%). Patients with exon 45-49del patients demonstrated severe skeletal muscle damage. Patients with exon 45-47del and exon 45-55del patients did not require ventilator use. INTERPRETATION: The study provides important prognostic information for patients and clinicians to establish therapy plans and to implement preventative medicine.

Considering that seizure freedom is one of the most important goals in the treatment of epilepsy, repeat epilepsy surgery could be considered for patients who continue to experience drug-resistant seizures after epilepsy surgery. However, the chance of seizure freedom is reported to be below 50% after reoperation for failed epilepsy surgery. This study aimed to elucidate the predictive factors for seizure outcomes after repeat pediatric epilepsy surgery. In all, 39 pediatric patients who underwent repeat curative epilepsy surgery between 2008 and 2020 at our institution were retrospectively studied. The relationship between preoperative clinical factors and postoperative seizure freedom at the last follow-up was statistically evaluated. The mean age at the first surgery was 5.5 years (0-16). The etiology of epilepsy was malformation of cortical development in 33 patients. The average time to seizure recurrence after the first surgery was 6.4 months (range, 0-26 months). In all, 16 patients (41.0%) achieved seizure freedom after the second surgery. Seven patients underwent a third surgery, and three (42.9%) achieved seizure freedom. Overall, 19 patients achieved seizure freedom after repeat epilepsy surgery (48.7%). Female sex, surgical failure due to technical limitations, congruent electroencephalography (EEG) findings, lesional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Rt-sided surgery were predictive of seizure freedom, and surgery limited to the temporal lobe was predictive of residual seizures, as determined in the multivariate analysis. The reoperation of failed epilepsy surgery is challenging. Consideration of the above predictive factors can be helpful in deciding whether to reoperate on pediatric patients whose initial surgical intervention failed.

AIM: No effective pharmacological interventions have been developed for patients with methamphetamine use disorder. Ifenprodil is a blocker of G protein-activated inwardly rectifying potassium channels, which play a key role in the mechanism of action of addictive substances. We conducted a randomized, double-blind, exploratory, dose-ranging, placebo-controlled trial to examine the clinical efficacy of ifenprodil for the treatment of methamphetamine use disorder. METHODS: Participants were assigned to three groups: placebo, 60 mg/d ifenprodil, or 120 mg/d ifenprodil. The drug administration period was 84 days. The primary outcome was the use or nonuse of methamphetamine during the drug administration period in the placebo group vs 120 mg/d ifenprodil group. We also assessed drug use status, relapse risk based on the Stimulant Relapse Risk Scale (SRRS), drug craving, and methamphetamine in urine as secondary outcomes. We further evaluated drug use status and SRRS subscale scores in patients who were not taking addiction medications during the study. RESULTS: Ifenprodil did not affect the primary or secondary outcomes. However, the additional analyses showed that the number of days of methamphetamine use during the follow-up period and scores on the emotionality problems subscale of the SRRS improved in the 120 mg/d ifenprodil group. The safety of ifenprodil was confirmed in patients with methamphetamine use disorder. CONCLUSION: The present findings did not confirm the efficacy of ifenprodil for methamphetamine use disorder treatment based on the primary or secondary outcomes, but we found evidence of its safety and efficacy in reducing emotionality problems. OBJECTIVE: Amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) can reliably detect senile plaques and fluorinated ligands are approved for clinical use. However, the clinical impact of amyloid PET imaging is still under investigation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic impact and clinical utility in patient management of amyloid PET using 18F-florbetapir in patients with cognitive impairment and suspected Alzheimer's disease (AD). We also aimed to determine the cutoffs for amyloid positivity for quantitative measures by investigating the agreement between quantitative and visual assessments. METHODS: Ninety-nine patients suspected of having AD underwent 18F-florbetapir PET at five institutions. Site-specialized physicians provided a diagnosis of AD or non-AD with a percentage estimate of their confidence and their plan for patient management in terms of medication, prescription dosage, additional diagnostic tests, and care planning both before and after receiving the amyloid imaging results. A PET image for each patient was visually assessed and dichotomously rated as either amyloid-positive or amyloid-negative by four board-certified nuclear medicine physicians. The PET images were also quantitatively analyzed using the standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) and Centiloid (CL) scale. RESULTS: Visual interpretation obtained 48 positive and 51 negative PET scans. The amyloid PET results changed the AD and non-AD diagnosis in 39 of 99 patients (39.3%). The change rates of 26 of the 54 patients (48.1%) with a pre-scan AD diagnosis were significantly higher than those of 13 of the 45 patients with a pre-scan non-AD diagnosis (χ2 = 5.334, p = 0.0209). Amyloid PET results also resulted in at least one change to the patient management plan in 42 patients (42%), mainly medication (20 patients, 20%) and care planning (25 patients, 25%). Receiver-operating characteristic analysis determined the best agreement of the quantitative assessments and visual interpretation of PET scans to have an area under the curve of 0.993 at an SUVR of 1.19 and CL of 25.9. CONCLUSION: Amyloid PET using 18F-florbetapir PET had a substantial clinical impact on AD and non-AD diagnosis and on patient management by enhancing diagnostic confidence. In addition, the quantitative measures may improve the visual interpretation of amyloid positivity.

Background: Social cognitive impairments adversely affect social functioning (e.g., employment status) in patients with schizophrenia. Although pharmacological interventions have been suggested to provide some benefits on social cognition, little information is available on the comparative efficacy of pharmacotherapy. Thus, the aim of this planned systematic review and network meta-analysis is to perform a quantitative comparison of the effects of various psychotropic drugs, including supplements, on social cognition disturbances of schizophrenia. Methods: The literature search will be carried out using the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PsycINFO, ClinicalTrials.gov, and International Clinical Trials Registry Platform databases from inception onward. Randomized controlled trials that examined the efficacy of drugs in social cognitive disturbances will be included, based on the most recent studies and the broader literature than previously searched. This protocol defines a priori the methods that will be used for study selection, data collection, quality assessment, and statistical syntheses. Discussion: The findings this work are expected to help promote the development of better therapeutics of social cognitive impairments in schizophrenia and related psychiatric conditions. Linear polystyrene-stabilized PdO nanoparticles (PS-PdONPs) were prepared in water by thermal decomposition of Pd(OAc)(2) in the presence of polystyrene. The immobilization degree of palladium was dependent on the molecular weight of polystyrene, while the size of the Pd nanoparticles was not. Linear polystyrene-stabilized Pd nanoparticles (PS-PdNPs) were also prepared using NaBH(4) and phenylboronic acid as reductants. The catalytic activity of PS-PdONPs was slightly higher than that of PS-PdNPs for Suzuki coupling reaction in water. PS-PdONPs exhibited high catalytic activity for Suzuki and copper-free Sonogashira coupling reactions in water and recycled without loss of activity.

OBJECTIVE: Pediatric epilepsy surgery is known to be effective, but early surgery in infancy is not well characterized. Extensive cortical dysplasia, such as hemimegalencephaly, can cause refractory epilepsy shortly after birth, and early surgical intervention is indicated. However, the complication rate of early pediatric surgery is significant. In this study, the authors assessed the risk-benefit balance of early pediatric epilepsy surgery as relates to developmental outcomes. METHODS: This is a retrospective descriptive study of 75 patients who underwent their first curative epilepsy surgery at an age under 3 years at the authors' institution between 2006 and 2019 and had a minimum 1-year follow-up of seizure and developmental outcomes. Clinical information including surgical complications, seizure outcomes, and developmental quotient (DQ) was collected from medical records. The effects of clinical factors on DQ at 1 year after surgery were evaluated. RESULTS: The median age at surgery was 6 months, peaking at between 3 and 4 months. Operative procedures included 27 cases of hemispherotomy, 19 cases of multilobar surgery, and 29 cases of unilobar surgery. Seizure freedom was achieved in 82.7% of patients at 1 year and in 71.0% of patients at a mean follow-up of 62.8 months. The number of antiseizure medications (ASMs) decreased significantly after surgery, and 19 patients (30.6%) had discontinued their ASMs by the last follow-up. Postoperative complications requiring cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion surgery, such as hydrocephalus and cyst formation, were observed in 13 patients (17.3%). The mean DQ values were 74.2 ± 34.3 preoperatively, 60.3 ± 23.3 at 1 year after surgery, and 53.4 ± 25.1 at the last follow-up. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the 1-year postoperative DQ was significantly influenced by preoperative DQ and postoperative seizure freedom but not by the occurrence of any surgical complication requiring CSF diversion surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Early pediatric epilepsy surgery has an acceptable risk-benefit balance. Seizure control after surgery is important for postoperative development.

We report on the development of a microtube electrode array as a neural interface device. To combine the desired properties for the neural interface device, such as low invasiveness with a small needle and a good signal-to-noise ratio in neural recordings, we applied the structure of a glass pipette electrode to each microtube electrode. The device was fabricated as sub-5-microm-diameter out-of-plane silicon dioxide microtube arrays using silicon microneedle templates, which are grown by the selective vapor-liquid-solid method. The microtubes had inner diameters of 1.9-6.4 microm and a length of 25 microm. Impedances ranged from 220 kOmega to 1.55 MOmega, which are less than those for conventional microneedles. In addition, the microtube electrodes had less signal attenuation than conventional microneedle electrodes. We confirmed that the effects of parasitic capacitances between neighboring microtubes and channels were sufficiently small using a test signal. Finally, neural responses evoked from a rat peripheral nerve were recorded in vivo using a microtube electrode to confirm that this type of electrode can be used for both electrophysiological measurements and as a neural interface device.
