PURPOSE: This study aims to identify the potential necroptosis related genes (NRGs)-associated miRNAs signature and explore the impact on the prognosis of stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD). METHODS: Employing rigorous methodologies, we utilized univariate Cox, Lasso and multivariate Cox regression analyses to develop a prognostic signature. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) and ROC curves were applied to assess the prognostic value of signature in a training group and an independent test group. Furthermore, we conducted Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) for enrichment of tumor-related pathways. The risk score was calculated for each patient based on the expression of miRNAs which were enrolled in the signature. Patients were stratified into high- and low-risk groups. The immune cell infiltration and immunotherapy were compared between the two groups. Finally, the diagnostic potential of the miRNA was explored by RT-qPCR. RESULTS: We constructed a prognostic model based on 6 NRGs-associated miRNAs. K-M plots underscored superior survival outcomes in the low-risk group. GSEA results revealed the enrichment of several tumor-related pathways in the high-risk group. Notably, CD8+ T cells, Tregs and activated memory CD4+ T cells exhibited negative correlations with the risk score. Additionally, a few immune checkpoint genes, such as CTLA4, PD1 and PD-L1, were significantly upregulated in the low-risk group. Furthermore, the serum expression levels of all these 6 miRNAs were significantly elevated in STAD patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified a robust risk score derived from a signature of 6 NRGs-associated miRNAs, demonstrating high efficacy for prognosis of STAD. These results not only contributed to our understanding of STAD pathogenesis, but also held promise for potential clinical applications, particularly in the realm of personalized immunotherapy for STAD patients.

Competition is common in life, and intimate relationships are essential. Understanding how intimate relationships impact an individual's competitive process is crucial. This study explored the impact of competitor gender on female competition using electroencephalography analysis. The results revealed that females exhibited a smaller median of the absolute value of reaction time difference (DRT) between their partners and their competitors when their partners were absent compared to when their partners were present. Additionally, females showed greater average amplitudes of N2 posterior contralateral component (N2pc) and Late Positive Potential (LPP), increased activation of the alpha frequency band, and enhanced theta frequency band functional connectivity between the central parietal lobe and occipital lobe. Furthermore, when competing with individuals of the same gender as opposed to individuals of the opposite gender, females exhibited greater average amplitudes of percentage of wins and N2pc. A significant negative correlation was noted between the DRT and the average wave amplitudes of N2pc and LPP. These findings suggest that females are more engaged in competitive tasks when partners are not present and have improved decision-making when competing with same-gender individuals. This study provides evidence for the influence of lovers on female competition, helping females adapt to social competition and promoting healthy relationships.

In real-life scenarios, joint consumption is common, particularly influenced by social relationships such as romantic ones. However, how romantic relationships affect consumption decisions and determine dominance remains unclear. This study employs electroencephalography hyperscanning to examine the neural dynamics of couples during joint-consumption decisions. Results show that couples, compared to friends and strangers, prefer healthier foods, while friends have significantly faster reaction times when selecting food. Time-frequency analysis indicates that couples exhibit significantly higher theta power, reflecting deeper emotional and cognitive involvement. Strangers show greater beta1 power, indicating increased cognitive effort and alertness due to unfamiliarity. Friends demonstrate higher alpha2 power when choosing unhealthy foods, suggesting increased cognitive inhibition. Inter-brain phase synchrony analysis reveals that couples display significantly higher inter-brain phase synchrony in the beta1 and theta bands across the frontal-central, parietal, and occipital regions, indicating more coordinated cognitive processing and stronger emotional bonds. Females in couples may be more influenced by emotions during consumption decisions, with detailed sensory information processing, while males exhibit higher cognitive control and spatial integration. Granger-causality analysis shows a pattern of male dominance and female dependence in joint consumption within romantic relationships. This study highlights gender-related neural synchronous patterns during joint consumption among couples, providing insights for further research in consumer decision-making.

Competition is an essential component of social interaction and is influenced by interpersonal relationships. This study is based on social exchange theory and explores the relationship between brain synchronization and competition in the binary system of romantic relationships through electroencephalogram hyperscanning technology. The results found that females had a greater win rate in the romantic and friend groups. During the early stage (0-200 ms), when the competitive target appeared, the stranger group exhibited greater interbrain synchronicity in the Alpha frequency band. However, during the later stage (600-800 ms), the romantic group showed higher Alpha band interbrain synchrony when the competitive target appeared. Significant interbrain synchronizations were observed in the Theta frequency band of the stranger and friend groups at 400-600 ms and 800-1000 ms. Moreover, these interbrain synchronizations were significantly positively correlated with the winning rates of females in the competition. These findings suggest a close relationship between interpersonal coordination and interbrain synchronization. Furthermore, romantic relationships reduce participants' willingness to compete, affecting their attention regulation, emotional processing, and goal orientation, thus influencing competition. This study investigated the impact of romantic relationships on competition, providing a theoretical foundation for promoting the positive and healthy development of romantic relationships.

Third-party punishment occurs in interpersonal interactions to sustain social norms, and is strongly influenced by the characteristics of the interacting individuals. During social interactions, height is the striking physical appearance features first observed, height disadvantage may critically influence men's behavior and mental health. Herein, we explored the influence of height disadvantage on third-party punishment through time-frequency analysis and electroencephalography hyperscanning. Two participants were randomly designated as the recipient and third party after height comparison and instructed to complete third-party punishment task. Compared with when the third party's height is higher than the recipient's height, when the third party's height is lower, the punishment rate and transfer amount were significantly higher. Only for highly unfair offers, the theta power was significantly greater when the third party's height was lower. The inter-brain synchronization between the recipient and the third party was significantly stronger when the third party's height was lower. Compared with the fair and medium unfair offers, the inter-brain synchronization was strongest for highly unfair offers. Our findings indicate that the height disadvantage-induced anger and reputation concern promote third-party punishment and inter-brain synchronization. This study enriches research perspective and expands the application of the theory of Napoleon complex.

Cooperation and competition are the most common forms of social interaction in various social relationships. Intergroup relationships have been posited to influence individuals' interpersonal interactions significantly. Using electroencephalography hyperscanning, this study aimed to establish whether intergroup relationships influence interpersonal cooperation and competition and the underlying neural mechanisms. According to the results, the in-group Coop-index is better than the out-group, whereas the out-group Comp-index is stronger than the in-group. The in-group functional connectivity between the frontal-central region and the right temporoparietal junction in the ß band was stronger in competition than cooperation. The out-group functional connectivity between the frontal-central region and the left temporoparietal junction in the α band was stronger in cooperation than competition. In both cooperation and competition, the in-group exhibited higher interbrain synchronization between the prefrontal cortex and parietal region in the θ band, as well as between the frontal-central region and frontal-central region in the α band, compared to the out-group. The intrabrain phase-locking value in both the α and ß bands can effectively predict performance in competition tasks. Interbrain phase-locking value in both the α and θ bands can be effectively predicted in a performance cooperation task. This study offers neuroscientific evidence for in-group favoritism and out-group bias at an interpersonal level.

Osteogenic differentiation is important for fracture healing. Microfibrial-associated glycoprotein 2 (MAGP2) is found to function as a proangiogenic regulator in bone formation; however, its role in osteogenic differentiation during bone repair is not clear. Here, a mouse model of critical-sized femur fracture was constructed, and the adenovirus expressing MAGP2 was delivered into the fracture site. Mice with MAGP2 overexpression exhibited increased bone mineral density and bone volume fraction (BV/TV) at Day 14 postfracture. Within 7 days postfracture, overexpression of MAGP2 increased collagen I and II expression at the fracture callus, with increasing chondrogenesis. MAGP2 inhibited collagen II level but elevated collagen I by 14 days following fracture, accompanied by increased endochondral bone formation. In mouse osteoblast precursor MC3T3-E1 cells, MAGP2 treatment elevated the expression of osteoblastic factors (osterix, BGLAP and collagen I) and enhanced ALP activity and mineralization through activating ß-catenin signaling after osteogenic induction. Besides, MAGP2 could interact with lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) and upregulated its expression. Promotion of osteogenic differentiation and ß-catenin activation mediated by MAGP2 was partially reversed by LRP5 knockdown. Interestingly, ß-catenin/transcription factor 4 (TCF4) increased MAGP2 expression probably by binding to MAGP2 promoter. These findings suggest that MAGP2 may interact with ß-catenin/TCF4 to enhance ß-catenin/TCF4's function and activate LRP5-activated ß-catenin signaling pathway, thus promoting osteogenic differentiation for fracture repair. mRNA sequencing identified the potential targets of MAGP2, providing novel insights into MAGP2 function and the directions for future research.

BACKGROUND: Cuproptosis, as a copper-induced mitochondrial cell death, has attracted extensive attention recently, especially in cancer. Although some key regulatory genes have been identified in cuproptosis, the related lncRNAs have not been further studied. Exploring the prognostic and diagnostic value of cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLs) in colon adenocarcinoma and providing guidance for individualized immunotherapy for patients are of great significance. RESULTS: A total of 2003 lncRNAs were correlated with cuproptosis genes and considered as CRLs. We screened 33 survival-associated CRLs and established a prognostic signature base on 7 CRLs in the training group. The patients in the low-risk group had better outcomes in both training group (P < 0.001) and test group (P = 0.016). More exciting, our model showed good prognosis prediction in both stage I-II (P = 0.020) and stage III-IV (P = 0.001). The nomogram model could further improve the accuracy of prognosis prediction. Interestingly, glucose-related metabolic pathways, which were closely related to cuproptosis, were enriched in the low-risk group. Meanwhile, the immune infiltration scores were lower in the high-risk group. The high-risk group was more sensitive to OSI.906 and ABT.888, while low-risk group was more sensitive to Sorafenib. Three lncRNAs, FALEC, AC083967.1 and AC010997.4, were highly expressed in serum of COAD patients, and the AUC was 0.772, 0.726 and 0.714, respectively, indicating their valuable diagnostic value. CONCLUSIONS: Our research constructed a prognostic signature based on 7 CRLs and found three promising diagnostic markers for COAD patients. Our results provided a reference to the personalized immunotherapy strategies.

Social norms and altruistic punitive behaviours are both based on the integration of information from multiple contexts. Individual behavioural performance can be altered by loss and gain contexts, which produce different mental states and subjective perceptions. In this study, we used event-related potential and time-frequency techniques to examine performance on a third-party punishment task and to explore the neural mechanisms underlying context-dependent differences in punishment decisions. The results indicated that individuals were more likely to reject unfairness in the context of loss (vs. gain) and to increase punishment as unfairness increased. In contrast, fairness appeared to cause an early increase in cognitive control signal enhancement, as indicated by the P2 amplitude and theta oscillations, and a later increase in emotional and motivational salience during decision-making in gain vs. loss contexts, as indicated by the medial frontal negativity and beta oscillations. In summary, individuals were more willing to sanction violations of social norms in the loss context than in the gain context and rejecting unfair losses induced more equity-related cognitive conflict than accepting unfair gains, highlighting the importance of context (i.e., gain vs. loss) in equity-related social decision-making processes.

Altruistic punishment is a primary response to social norms violations; its neural mechanism has also attracted extensive research attention. In the present studies, we applied a low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) while participants engaged in a modified Ultimatum Game (Study 1) and third-party punishment game (Study 2) to explore how the bilateral DLPFC disruption affects people's perception of violation of fairness norms and altruistic punishment decision in the gain and loss contexts. Typically, punishers intervene more often against and show more social outrage towards Dictators/Proposers who unfairly distribute losses than those who unfairly share gains. We found that disrupting the function of the left DLPFC in the second-party punishment and the bilateral DLPFC in the third-party punishment with rTMS effectively obliterated this difference, making participants punish unfairly shared gains as often as they usually would punish unfairly shared losses. In the altruistic punishment of maintaining the social fairness norms, the inhibition of the right DLPFC function will affect the deviation of individual information integration ability; the inhibition of the left DLPFC function will affect the assessment of the degree of violation of fairness norms and weaken impulse control, leading to attenuate the moderating effect of gain and loss contexts on altruistic punishment. Our findings emphasize that DLPFC is closely related to altruistic punishment and provide causal neuroscientific evidence.

Vascular calcification (VC) is highly prevalent in patients undergoing hemodialysis, and is a significant contributor to the mortality rate. Therefore, biomarkers that can accurately predict the onset of VC are urgently required. Our study aimed to investigate serum miR-15a levels in relation to VC and to develop a predictive model for VC in patients undergoing hemodialysis at the Beijing Friendship Hospital hemodialysis center between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2020. The patients were categorized into two groups: VC and non-VC. Logistic regression (LR) models were used to examine the risk factors associated with VC. Additionally, we developed an miR-15a-based nomogram based on the results of the multivariate LR analysis. A total of 138 patients under hemodialysis were investigated (age: 58.41 ± 13.22 years; 54 males). VC occurred in 79 (57.2%) patients. Multivariate LR analysis indicated that serum miR-15a, age, and WBC count were independent risk factors for VC. A miR-15a-based nomogram was developed by incorporating the following five predictors: age, dialysis vintage, predialysis nitrogen, WBC count, and miR-15a. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve had an area under the curve of 0.921, diagnostic threshold of 0.396, sensitivity of 0.722, and specificity of 0.932, indicating that this model had good discrimination. This study concluded that serum miR-15a levels, age, and white blood cell (WBC) count are independent risk factors for VC. A nomogram constructed by integrating these risk factors can be used to predict the risk of VC in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

In this study, we design an embedded surface EMG acquisition device to conveniently collect human surface EMG signals, pursue more intelligent human-computer interactions in exoskeleton robots, and enable exoskeleton robots to synchronize with or even respond to user actions in advance. The device has the characteristics of low cost, miniaturization, and strong compatibility, and it can acquire eight-channel surface EMG signals in real time while retaining the possibility of expanding the channel. This paper introduces the design and function of the embedded EMG acquisition device in detail, which includes the use of wired transmission to adapt to complex electromagnetic environments, light signals to indicate signal strength, and an embedded processing chip to reduce signal noise and perform filtering. The test results show that the device can effectively collect the original EMG signal, which provides a scheme for improving the level of human-computer interactions and enhancing the robustness and intelligence of exoskeleton equipment. The development of this device provides a new possibility for the intellectualization of exoskeleton systems and reductions in their cost.

In-plane diffractive optical networks based on meta-surfaces are promising for on-chip application. The design constraints of regular antenna unit place ultimate limits on the functionalities of the meta-systems. This fundamental limitation has been reflected by the large footprints of cascaded meta-surfaces. Here, we propose a digital meta-lens with a large degree of design freedom, enabling significantly improved beam focusing, collimation, and deflection capabilities. A highly dispersive and compact diffractive optical system is constructed for spectrometer via five layers of meta-lenses in a folded configuration. The device only occupies a 100 µm × 100 µm chip area on a silicon photonic platform. Sparse and continuous spectra reconstruction is achieved over a 35 nm bandwidth. Fine spectral lines separated by 0.14 nm are resolved. In addition to such a compact and high-resolution on-chip spectrometer, it is also expected to be promising for imaging, optical computing, and other applications due to the great versatility of the digital lens design.

Proanthocyanidins, natural polyphenolic compounds abundantly present in plants, exhibit diverse bioactivities, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. These bioactivities are intricately linked to the degree of polymerization of these compounds. Through a comprehensive analysis of recent domestic and international research, this article synthesizes the latest advancements in the extraction process, degradation methods, as well as the biological activities and underlying mechanisms of proanthocyanidins. Furthermore, future research endeavors should prioritize the refinement of extraction techniques, the elucidation of bioactive mechanisms, and the development of formulations with enhanced potency. This will maximize the utilization of proanthocyanidins across diverse applications.

The complete genomic sequence of a novel citrus tristeza virus (CTV) isolate, CT91-A1, from Orah tangor grafted on Citrus junos cv. Ziyangxiangcheng rootstock in China was determined by transcriptome sequencing. Sequence alignments showed that isolate CT91-A1 shared 83.3 to 95.5% nucleotide sequence identity with extant CTV genotypes at the whole-genome level, with the highest similarity to the S1 genotype. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that CT91-A1 clustered in a unique subclade with the S1 genotype. Isolate CT91-A1 induced severe stem pitting in Mexican lime and C. junos cv. Ziyangxiangcheng and moderate stem pitting in Guanximiyou pummelo and Duncan grapefruit. It was successfully transmitted by Aphis citricidus, and it can potentially cause significant damage to the citrus industry in China.

Sleep restriction affects people's decision-making behavior. Nap restriction is a vital subtopic within sleep restriction research. In this study, we used EEG to investigate the impact of nap sleep restriction on intertemporal decision-making (Study 1) and decision-making across risky outcomes (Study 2) from ERP and time-frequency perspectives. Study 1 found that habitual nappers restricting their naps felt more inclined to choose immediate, small rewards over delayed, large rewards in an intertemporal decision-making task. P200s, P300s, and LPP in our nap-restriction group were significantly higher than those in the normal nap group. Time-frequency results showed that the delta band (1 ~ 4 Hz) power of the restricted nap group was significantly higher than that of the normal nap group. In Study 2, the nap-restriction group was more likely to choose risky options. P200s, N2s, and P300s in the nap deprivation group were significantly higher than in the normal nap group. Time-frequency results also found that the beta band (11 ~ 15 Hz) power of the restricted nap group was significantly lower than that of the normal nap group. The habitual nappers became more impulsive after nap restriction and evinced altered perceptions of time. The time cost of the LL (larger-later) option was perceived to be too high when making intertemporal decisions, and their expectation of reward heightened when making risky decisions-believing that they had a higher probability of receiving a reward. OBJECTIVE: Alexithymia is a psychiatric symptom characterized by difficulties in emotion recognition, expression, and regulation. The purpose of our study was to investigate the prevalence of alexithymia among patients with epilepsy (PWE) and related factors. METHODS: By the means of a cross-sectional study, we consecutively recruited PWE who visited the First Hospital of Jilin University. The demographical information and clinical data were collected. Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), Kilifi Stigma Scale for Epilepsy (KSSE), Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Nurses' Global Assessment of Suicide Risk scale (NGASR) scales were applied to assess alexithymia, emotion regulation strategies, and the presence of comorbid psychiatric symptoms. RESULTS: A total of 203 PWE were included. The differences in education, monthly per capita income of the family, and the number of antiepileptic drugs were statistically significant among these three groups with alexithymia, possible alexithymia, and non-alexithymia (p < 0.05). Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 scores were significantly and positively correlated with BMI (rho = 0.143, p = 0.042). Expression suppression, stigma, and generalized anxiety were independent risk factors for alexithymia (R2 = 0.471, F = 19.075, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: A high prevalence of alexithymia (18.7%) was found in PWE. Alexithymia is primarily influenced by the emotional regulation strategies, anxiety, and stigma among PWE. It tends to be a mood symptom or personality trait rather than a direct result of epilepsy.

Current treatment for patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) delays disease progression and improves survival, but resistance is inevitable. Additional therapies that prolong survival are needed. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) combined with next-generation hormonal agents, such as enzalutamide, is standard-of-care for men with mHSPC. Emerging evidence suggests potential synergism between enzalutamide and the PD-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab in prostate cancer. The phase III randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind KEYNOTE-991 trial will investigate the efficacy and safety of pembrolizumab versus placebo in combination with enzalutamide when initiating ADT in participants with mHSPC naive to next-generation hormonal agents. Approximately 1232 patients will be randomly assigned 1:1 to receive pembrolizumab 200 mg every 3 weeks or placebo every 3 weeks, both with enzalutamide 160 mg once daily and ADT. Dual primary end points are overall survival and radiographic progression-free survival. Secondary end points include time to first subsequent therapy, time to symptomatic skeletal related event, objective response rate and safety and tolerability. INTRODUCTION: Evidence on the willingness of men who have sex with men (MSM) with oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) experience, especially those with suboptimal adherence, to take long-acting injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP) is critical to guide future LAI-PrEP implementation. OBJECTIVE: The objective was to assess the willingness of MSM with oral PrEP experience to take LAI-PrEP. METHODS: MSM who participated in the China Real-world Study of Oral PrEP (CROPrEP) were enrolled in this study. Information on the willingness of MSM to take LAI-PrEP and potential correlates was collected using a structured online questionnaire. The main outcomes were the willingness of MSM to take LAI-PrEP and its association with HIV-related behaviours, sexually transmitted infections, and oral PrEP history. Logistic regression was used to identify correlates of the willingness of MSM to take LAI-PrEP. RESULTS: A total of 612 former CROPrEP participants (FCPs) were included in this study. There were 315 (51.5%) daily oral PrEP (D-PrEP) users and 297 (48.5%) event-driven oral PrEP (ED-PrEP) users at the last follow-up. Most FCPs (77.8%) were willing to take free LAI-PrEP. FCPs with no less than two sexual male partners (aOR = 1.54, [95% CI: 1.04, 2.29], P = 0.031), those with male partners with unknown HIV statuses (aOR = 2.04, [95% CI: 1.31, 3.18], P = 0.002), those with recreational drug use (aOR = 1.58, [95% CI: 1.05, 2.40], P = 0.030), and those with HSV-2 positivity (aOR = 2.15, [95% CI: 1.30, 3.57], P = 0.003) were more willing to take LAI-PrEP, while ED-PrEP users (aOR = 0.66, [95% CI: 0.45, 0.98], P = 0.037) and FCPs with suboptimal oral PrEP adherence (aOR = 0.58, [95% CI: 0.36, 0.94], P = 0.026) were less willing to take LAI-PrEP. CONCLUSION: LAI-PrEP has good prospects for expanding PrEP coverage. However, FCPs with suboptimal oral PrEP adherence are less likely to take LAI-PrEP. Further intervention and implementation efforts are needed to improve the willingness of MSM to use LAI-PrEP, and sexual health should be considered during the discussion about PrEP initiation.
