RESUMO

The comprehensive study reported herein provides compelling evidence that anion templates are the main driving force in the formation of two novel nanoscale lanthanide hydroxide clusters, {Gd38(ClO4)6} (1) and {Gd48Cl2(NO3)} (2), characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, infrared spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. {Gd38(ClO4)6}, encapsulating six ClO4(-) ions, features a cage core composed of twelve vertex-sharing {Gd4} tetrahedrons and one Gd⋅⋅⋅Gd pillar. When Cl(-) and NO3(-) were incorporated in the reaction instead of ClO4(-), {Gd48Cl2(NO3)} is obtained with a barrel shape constituted by twelve vertex-sharing {Gd4} tetrahedrons and six {Gd5} pyramids. What is more, the cage-like {Gd38} can be dynamically converted into the barrel-shaped {Gd48} upon Cl(-) and NO3(-) stimulus. To our knowledge, it is the first time that the linear M-O-M' fashion and the unique µ8-ClO4(-) mode have been crystallized in pure lanthanide complex, and complex 2 represents the largest gadolinium cluster. Both of the complexes display large magnetocaloric effect in units of J kg(-1) K(-1) and mJ cm(-3) K(-1) on account of the weak antiferromagnetic exchange, the high N(Gd)/M(W) ratio (magnetic density), and the relatively compact crystal lattice (mass density).

RESUMO

A series of heterometallic [3 × 3] grids have been synthesized readily through a one-pot solvothermal reaction. Given metal ions carrying distinct electronic, magnetic, and optical information can be addressed precisely at specific locations in the array.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The risk factors for skin injuries remain poorly understood in cancer patients with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). We herein aimed at exploring the effect of clinical factors on the risk of PICC-related skin injuries. METHODS: We included 1245 cancer patients with PICC from 16 hospitals in Suzhou, China. The study outcome was in-hospital skin injuries, including contact dermatitis, skin (epidermal) stripping, tension injury, allergic dermatitis, skin tear, maceration, folliculitis, and pressure injury. RESULTS: During hospitalization, 274 patients (22.0%) developed skin injuries after prolonged use of an indwelling catheter. Univariable logistic regression analysis identified several risk factors for PICC-related skin injuries; multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the following factors independently and significantly (p < 0.05) associated with the risk of PICC-related skin injuries: body mass index (BMI, >25 kg/m2 versus <18.5 kg/m2: odds ratio (OR), 1.79; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.03-3.11), skin condition (humid vs normal: OR, 2.96; 95% CI, 1.62-5.43), skin indentation (OR, 4.67; 95% CI, 3.31-6.58), allergic history (OR, 2.11; 95% CI, 1.21-3.66), history of dermatitis (OR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.00-9.28), history of eczema (OR, 3.36; 95% CI, 1.20-9.43), catheter insertion site (under elbow vs. upper arm: OR, 3.32; 95% CI, 1.12-9.90), and PICC maintenance interval (4-5 days vs ⩽3 days: OR, 0.06; 95% CI, 0.01-0.50; 5-7 days vs ⩽3 days: OR, 0.07; 95% CI, 0.02-0.31; 7-9 days vs ⩽3 days: OR, 0.10; 95% CI, 0.02-0.57). CONCLUSIONS: BMI, skin condition, skin indentation, allergic history, history of dermatitis, history of eczema, catheter insertion site, and PICC maintenance interval were independent risk factors for PICC-related skin injuries in cancer patients. This knowledge will guide future studies with formulating optimal treatment strategies for improving the skin health of cancer patients with PICC.

RESUMO

Nested PCR method was used to amplify the Plasmodium vivax merozoite surface protein 1 (PvMSP-1) gene fragment containing the ICB5 and ICB6 region from Plasmodium vivax in Liaoning Province. The PCR products were digested by Pvu II restriction endonuclease and the digested fragments were observed by 1.5% agarose gel electrophoresis, and all followed by sequencing analysis and comparison. In 11 field isolates of P. vivax, two kinds of DNA fragments with 470 and 400 bp were produced respectively. After PvuII digestion, two Sal-1 type fragments (120 and 350 bp) were obtained from 5 samples of 470 bp. Single band of 400 bp appeared in 1 samples as Belem type. Two bands of 120 and 280 bp appeared from another 1 sample as recombination type III, and other 4 bands with 120 and 240 bp as Korean isolate. The principal types of PvMSP-1 alleles exist in malaria endemic areas in Liaoning Province with no mixed infection of two different type alleles.

RESUMO

An effective differentiation between severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome was attained by a model considering patients' age, mouse/tick contact, presence of blush, low back pain, diarrhea, enlarged lymph nodes, and white blood cell count.

RESUMO

A chiral metal-organic framework exhibiting spin crossover (SCO) property, [Fe(II)(mptpy)2]·EtOH·0.2DMF (·solv), has been solvothermally synthesized through spontaneous resolution. It displays remarkable stability and two-step SCO at (Tc1 = 200 K) and above (Tc2 = 357 K) room temperature.

RESUMO

We have characterized clinical isolates of Brucella melitensis from Liaoning, China, using multiple-locus variable-number repeat analysis of 16 loci (MLVA-16) and evaluated the antimicrobial susceptibilities in vitro. All 31 isolates shared the panel 1 genotype 42 profile suggesting that they belong to the 'East Mediterranean' group. In vitro antibiotic susceptibility was determined by the broth microdilution testing. All isolates were sensitive to tested antibiotics (rifampin, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, ceftriaxone, streptomycin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) in addition to azithromycin and clarithromycin. Partial nucleotide sequences of the 23SrRNA gene were analyzed for all isolates and single nucleotide polymorphism alterations of 2632 T/C were found. The MLVA-16 assay can be applied to the long-term surveillance and investigation of strain relatedness in regions of endemicity.
