RESUMO
Understanding the spatial distribution of the P1 centers is crucial for diamond-based sensors and quantum devices. P1 centers serve as polarization sources for dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) quantum sensing and play a significant role in the relaxation of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers. Additionally, the distribution of NV centers correlates with the distribution of P1 centers, as NV centers are formed through the conversion of P1 centers. We utilized DNP and pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) techniques that revealed strong clustering of a significant population of P1 centers that exhibit exchange coupling and produce asymmetric line shapes. The 13C DNP frequency profile at a high magnetic field revealed a pattern that requires an asymmetric EPR line shape of the P1 clusters with electron-electron (e-e) coupling strengths exceeding the 13C nuclear Larmor frequency. EPR and DNP characterization at high magnetic fields was necessary to resolve energy contributions from different e-e couplings. We employed a two-frequency pump-probe pulsed electron double resonance technique to show cross-talk between the isolated and clustered P1 centers. This finding implies that the clustered P1 centers affect all of the P1 populations. Direct observation of clustered P1 centers and their asymmetric line shape offers a novel and crucial insight into understanding magnetic noise sources for quantum information applications of diamonds and for designing diamond-based polarizing agents with optimized DNP efficiency for 13C and other nuclear spins of analytes. We propose that room temperature 13C DNP at a high field, achievable through straightforward modifications to existing solution-state NMR systems, is a potent tool for evaluating and controlling diamond defects.

BACKGROUND: To extract anthocyanins with high efficiency, a hypothesis for high-speed shear homogenization extraction (HSHE) method was established through a combination of solvent and ultrasonic-assisted extractions. The efficacy of this hypothesis was demonstrated by performing qualitative and quantitative analyses of 16 anthocyanins extracted from five northern vegetables, and five berry fruits using ultra-high-performance Q-Exactive Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry. Single-factor experiments were conducted by varying ethanol concentration, temperature, pH and extraction cycles to determine the optimal conditions for this method. RESULTS: Optimal extraction conditions (ethanol 70-80%, 40-50 °C, pH 3-4, performed twice) were determined using an HSHE (5 min, 10 000 rpm, 25 °C) assisted shaker (60 min) and ultrasonication (40 kHz, 160 W cm-2, 30 min, 25 °C) procedure. Compared to the traditional non-HSHE method, the total anthocyanin content obtained through HSHE extraction showed a significant increase, ranging from 1.0 to 3.9 times higher, with purple cabbage exhibiting the most pronounced enhancement in content. More types of anthocyanins were detected in blueberry (9), black bean (7) and raspberry (5), of which malvidin was the major anthocyanin (0.426 g kg-1) in blueberry, having an amount five times than previously obtained. CONCLUSION: The established HSHE method has been proven to be a superior technique for anthocyanin extraction, with higher extraction efficiency and concentrations. This technique also provides a new avenue for extracting bioactive compounds from diverse food sources, with potential applications in improving the functional properties of food products. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

BACKGROUND: Whey protein-epigallocatechin gallate (WP-EGCG) covalent conjugates and non-covalent nanocomplexes were prepared and compared using Fourier-transform infrared spectra. The effect of pH (at 2.6, 6.2, 7.1, and 8.2) on the non-covalent nanocomplexes' functional properties and the WP-EGCG interactions were investigated by studying antioxidant activity, emulsification, fluorescence quenching, and molecular docking, respectively. RESULTS: With the formation of non-covalent and covalent complexes, the amide band decreased; the -OH peak disappeared; the antioxidant activity of WP-EGCG non-covalent complexes was 2.59- and 2.61-times stronger than WP-EGCG covalent conjugates for 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP), respectively (particle size: 137 versus 370 nm). The antioxidant activity (DPPH 27.48-44.32%, FRAP 0.47-0.63) was stronger at pH 6.2-7.1 than at pH 2.6 and pH 8.2 (DPPH 19.50% and 26.36%, FRAP 0.39 and 0.41). Emulsification was highest (emulsifying activity index 181 m2 g-1 , emulsifying stability index 107%) at pH 7.1. The interaction between whey protein (WP) and EGCG was stronger under neutral and weakly acidic conditions: KSV (5.11-8.95 × 102 L mol-1 ) and Kq (5.11-8.95 × 1010 L mol s-1 ) at pH 6.2-7.1. Binding constants (pH 6.2 and pH 7.1) increased with increasing temperature. Molecular docking suggested that hydrophobic interactions played key roles at pH 6.2 and pH 7.1 (∆H > 0, ∆S > 0). Hydrogen bonding was the dominant force at pH 2.6 and pH 8.2 (∆H < 0, ∆S < 0). CONCLUSION: Environmental pH impacted the binding forces of WP-EGCG nanocomplexes. The interaction between WP and EGCG was stronger under neutral and weakly acidic conditions. Neutral and weakly acidic conditions are preferable for WP-EGCG non-covalent nanocomplex formation. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

A steady optical beam (SOB) propagating stably in a disorder medium is constructed by using a specially designed aspherical lens. Our theoretical and experimental results show that the generated SOB exhibits much better propagation features with small divergence and long Rayleigh length, as well as weak deformation through turbulent environment as compared with a conventional Gaussian beam. The beam parameter product of the SOB reaches 49.40% of the Gaussian beam by multiple measurements within a certain distance range. The SOB may find applications in optical communications and optical detection in turbulent transmission conditions.
RESUMO
Precipitation was an important obstacle to improving zinc's bioavailability. Therefore, zinc-whey protein hydrolysate-chitosan oligosaccharide (Zn-WPH-COS) complexes (167 nm) were prepared by linking Zn-WPH (zinc: 18.4%) with COS (1:1, 2 h) to enhance zinc's bioaccessibility. Fourier-transform infrared showed Zn-WPH formed with zinc replaced hydrogen (from 3274 to 3279 cm-1) and reacted with COO- (C-N: from 1394 to 1402 cm-1), a new peak at 1025 cm-1 proved COS can be successful cross-linked (Zn-WPH-COS). Fluorescence spectra showed zinc and COS reduced WPH hydrophobicity (28.0 and 39.0%, respectively). Circular dichroism showed zinc decreased WPH α-helix (from 13.7 to 11.5%), in contrast with COS to Zn-WPH. Zinc solubility and dialyzability were increased (64.5/ 54.2% vs 50.2/ 41.2% vs 29.5/ 21.7%) in Zn-WPH-COS, compared with Zn-WPH and ZnSO4·7H2O, respectively, due to the smallest size (167 nm) and COS protection on Zn-WPH (gastric digestion). These results indicate Zn-WPH-COS could significantly improve the digestion and absorption of zinc.

The remediation for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contaminated soil with cost-effective method has received significant public concern, a composite material, therefore, been fabricated by loading humic acid into biochar in this study to activate persulfate for naphthalene, pyrene and benzo(a)pyrene remediation. Experimental results proved the hypothesis that biochar loaded humic acid combined both advantages of individual materials in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons adsorption and persulfate activation, achieved synergistic performance in naphthalene, pyrene and benzo(a)pyrene removal from aqueous solution with efficiency reached at 98.2%, 99.3% and 90.1%, respectively. In addition, degradation played a crucial role in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons remediation, converting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons into less toxic intermediates through radicals of ·SO4-, ·OH, ·O2-, and 1O2 generated from persulfate activation process. Despite pH fluctuation and interfering ions inhibited remediation efficiency in some extent, the excellent performances of composite material in two field soil samples (76.7% and 91.9%) highlighted its potential in large-scale remediation.

The synergistic effects of phosphorylated zein nanoparticles (PZNP) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) in enhancing the wetting and barrier properties of chitosan hydrochloride (CHC)-based coating are investigated characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectra (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy and by investigating the mechanical properties, etc., with the aim of reducing cherry rain cracking. FTIR and XRD showed dual nanoparticles successfully implanted into CHC, CHC-PZNP-CNC combined moderate ductility (elongation at break: 7.8 %), maximum tensile strength (37.5 MPa). The addition of PZNP alone significantly improved wetting performance (Surface Tension, CHC: 55.3 vs. CHC-PZNP: 48.9 mN/m), while the addition of CNC alone led to a notable improvement in the water barrier properties of CHC (water vapor permeability, CHC: 6.75 × 10-10 vs. CHC-CNC: 5.76 × 10-10 gm-1 Pa-1 s-1). The final CHC-PZNP-CNC coating exhibited enhanced wettability (51.2 mN/m) and the strongest water-barrier property (5.32 × 10-10 gm-1 Pa-1 s-1), coupled with heightened surface hydrophobicity (water contact angle: 106.4°). Field testing demonstrated the efficacy of the CHC-PZNP-CNC coating in reducing cherry rain-cracking (Cracking Index, Control, 42.3 % vs. CHC-PZNP-CNC, 19.7 %; Cracking Ratio, Control, 34.6 % vs. CHC-PZNP-CNC, 15.8 %). The CHC-PZNP-CNC coating is a reliable option for preventing rain-induced cherry cracking.

Organosilica nanoparticles refer to silica nanoparticles containing carbon along with organic or functional groups and can be divided into mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles and nonporous organosilica nanoparticles. During the past few decades, considerable efforts have been devoted to the development of organosilica nanoparticles directly from organosilanes. However, most of the reports have focused on mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles, while relatively few are concerned with nonporous organosilica nanoparticles. The synthesis of nonporous organosilica nanoparticles typically involves (i) self-condensation of an organosilane as the single source, (ii) co-condensation of two or more types of organosilanes, (iii) co-condensation of tetraalkoxysilane and an organosilane, and (iv) spontaneous emulsification and the subsequent radical polymerization of 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TPM). This article aims to provide a review on the synthetic strategies of this important type of colloidal particle, followed by a brief discussion on their applications and future perspectives.

Land factors are natural resources with fundamental and strategic significance in the achievement of China's 2035 modernization goals. Dilemmas caused by market-oriented or planning-oriented allocation of land factors urgently call for new theoretical guidance and mode. After conducting a systematic review of the literature, this paper built a new framework from the perspective of production-living-ecological spaces to facilitate a better understanding of China's land factors allocation looking forward to 2035. Inductive and deductive methods were both used to interpret the applications of planning and market in land factors allocation. Our results show that: (1) The allocation of land factors for production space is truth-oriented and needs the guidance of market efficiency. The essential feature of "production" as the driving force in production space requires that the allocation of land factors in production space must "respect rules, give play to the agglomeration effect, and rationally carry out regional economic layout". (2) For the allocation of land factors for living space, it is necessary to pursue a kindness-oriented approach and establish a reasonable housing supply system based on people. Among them, the ordinary commercial housing and improving housing should rely on market forces to achieve multi-subject supply, while affordable housing should be ensured through government intervention in a multi-channel way. (3) For the allocation of land factors in ecological space, aesthetic-oriented planning should follow the rule of territorial differentiation and realize the transformation of ecological function into ecological value through market mechanisms. Top-down planning and bottom-up market represents the logic of overall and individual rationality, respectively. The effective allocation of land factors requires the utilization of both planning and market forces. However, the intersection needs be guided by boundary selection theory. This research indicates that "middle-around" theory could be a possible theoretical solution for future study.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol dependence has become a major problem that poses a serious threat to public health. Long-term heavy alcohol consumption can lead to brain functional disorders. This study aimed to investigate the relationship of the severity of cerebral white matter lesions (WMLs), serum neurofilament light (NfL) and inflammatory factors, tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and Interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), with the cognitive function of patients with alcohol dependence. METHODS: A total of 118 patients were enrolled in this prospective study, and divided into alcohol-dependent and non-alcohol-dependent groups. The severity of WMLs was assessed using the Fazekas scale based on magnetic resonance imaging analysis. The expression levels of NfL, TNF-α and IL-1ß in the serum of the subjects were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The cognitive function and psychological status of the patients were assessed using the Minimum Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA). The severity of WMLs and the expression levels of serum NfL, TNF-α and IL-1ß in alcohol-dependent patients were analysed for their influence on cognitive function. This clinical trial was approved by China Clinical Trials Registry, and the trial number is ChiCTR2200066057 (http://www.chictr.org.cn/searchproj.aspx). RESULTS: The score of Fazekas scale was higher, and the MMSE score and MoCA score were lower in the alcohol-dependent group than those in the non-alcohol-dependent group. Moreover, the Fazekas score of the alcohol-dependent group was negatively correlated with the MMSE and MoCA scores. The serum NfL, TNF-α and IL-1ß levels were higher in the alcohol-dependent group than in the non-alcohol-dependent group, and the serum NfL, TNF-α and IL-1ß levels in the alcohol-dependent group were negatively correlated with the MMSE and MoCA scores. CONCLUSION: Alcohol-dependent patients have more severe cerebral WMLs and significant cognitive impairment, particularly in visuospatial and executive functions, attention, calculation, abstraction, delayed recall and orientation. Serum NfL, TNF-α and IL-1ß may be used as biomarkers to assess alcohol related cognitive decline.
RESUMO
In our previous work, epitaxial Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 thick films (~1-2 µm) showed an excellent energy storage performance with a large recyclable energy density (~58 J/cc) and a high energy efficiency (~92%), which was attributed to a nanoscale entangled heterophase polydomain structure. Here, we propose a detailed analysis of the structure-property relationship in these film materials, using an annealing process to illustrate the effect of nanodomain entanglement on the energy storage performance. It is revealed that an annealing-induced stress relaxation led to the segregation of the nanodomains (via detailed XRD analyses), and a degraded energy storage performance (via polarization-electric field analysis). These results confirm that a nanophase entanglement is an origin of the high-energy storage performance in the Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 thick films.

BACKGROUND: With the development of social economy, people's lives are improving day by day. Chronic diseases represented by diabetes have gradually entered people's field of vision. At present, about 415 million people in the world suffer from diabetes, of which more than 90% are Type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM), which causes severe physical and mental pain to patients and their families, and also imposes a huge burden on the health care system. Animal experiments and clinical studies both show that Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD) cannot only reduce the blood glucose of T2DM, but also improve the islet function of patients, reduce the insulin resistance index and insulin secretion index, and have no adverse reactions. Therefore, we designed this protocol to evaluate the effect of GQD on clinical Prognosis and islet function for T2DM. METHODS: This review was conducted from January 1, 2000 to October 1, 2020, sourced from the Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Excerpt Medica Database, Science Direct, World Health Organization, International Clinical Trials Registration Platform, Web of Science, Chinese Biomedical Literature, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Wanfang Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database. In this study clinical randomized controlled trial is used and we set inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria for screening. The primary outcomes include Fasting plasma glucose,2âh plasma glucose, Hemoglobin A1c, fasting plasma insulin, insulin resistance index and insulin secretion index. Review Manager 5.3 software will be used for data analysis. RESULTS: This study will provide the systematic evidence of the effect of GQD on Clinical Prognosis and islet function for T2DM. CONCLUSION: The findings of this meta-analysis will provide evidence to evaluate the effect of GQD on Clinical Prognosis and islet function for type 2 diabetic mellitus. Salinity represents a critical environmental factor for fishes, and it can directly influence their survival. Transcriptomic analysis at the gene expression level has been extensively conducted to identify functional genes or pathways involved in salinity adaptation in numerous euryhaline fishes. However, the post-transcriptional regulation mechanism in response to salinity changes remains largely unknown. Alternative splicing (AS), the main mechanism accounting for the complexity of the transcriptome and proteome in eukaryotes, plays essential roles in determining organismal responses to environmental changes. In this study, RNA-Seq datasets were used to examine the AS profiles in spotted sea bass (Lateolabrax maculatus), a typical euryhaline fish species. The results showed that 8618 AS events were identified in spotted sea bass. Furthermore, a total of 501 and 162 differential alternative splicing (DAS) events were characterized in the gill and liver under low- and high-salinity environments, respectively. Based on GO enrichment results, DAS genes in both the gill and liver were commonly enriched in 8 GO terms, and their biological functions were implicated in many stages of gene expression regulation, including transcriptional regulation and post-transcriptional regulation. Sanger sequencing and qPCR validations provided additional evidence to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our bioinformatic results. This is the first comprehensive view of AS in response to salinity changes in fish species, providing insights into the post-regulatory molecular mechanisms of euryhaline fishes in salinity adaptation.

Five full-scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in China using typical biodegradation processes (SBR, oxidation ditch, A2/O) were selected to assess the removal of four popular artificial sweeteners (ASs). All four ASs (acesulfame (ACE), sucralose (SUC), cyclamate (CYC) and saccharin (SAC)) were detected, ranging from 0.43 to 27.34µg/L in the influent. Higher concentrations of ASs were measured in winter. ACE could be partly removed by 7.11-50.76% through biodegradation and especially through the denitrifying process. The A2/O process was the most efficient at biodegrading ASs. Adsorption (by granular activated carbon (GAC) and magnetic resin) and ultraviolet radiation-based advanced oxidation processes (UV/AOPs) were evaluated to remove ASs in laboratory-scale tests. The amounts of resin adsorbed were 3.33-18.51 times more than those of GAC except for SUC. The adsorption ability of resin decreased in the order of SAC > ACE > CYC > SUC in accordance with the pKa. Degradation of ASs followed pseudo-first-order kinetics in UV/H2O2 and UV/PDS. When applied to the secondary effluent, ASs could be degraded from 30.87 to 99.93% using UV/PDS in 30 minutes and UV/PDS was more efficient and economic.

Dielectric capacitors have the highest charge/discharge speed among all electrical energy devices, but lag behind in energy density. Here we report dielectric ultracapacitors based on ferroelectric films of Ba(Zr0.2,Ti0.8)O3 which display high-energy densities (up to 166 J cm-3) and efficiencies (up to 96%). Different from a typical ferroelectric whose electric polarization is easily saturated, these Ba(Zr0.2,Ti0.8)O3 films display a much delayed saturation of the electric polarization, which increases continuously from nearly zero at remnant in a multipolar state, to a large value under the maximum electric field, leading to drastically improved recyclable energy densities. This is achieved by the creation of an adaptive nano-domain structure in these perovskite films via phase engineering and strain tuning. The lead-free Ba(Zr0.2,Ti0.8)O3 films also show excellent dielectric and energy storage performance over a broad frequency and temperature range. These findings may enable broader applications of dielectric capacitors in energy storage, conditioning, and conversion.
RESUMO
Acesulfame (ACE) is listed as an emerging contaminant due to its environmental persistence and wide occurrence in the environment. ACE can be degraded partially in the regular UV disinfection process but the eco-toxicity of its irradiation products remains unclear. This study focused on the possible oxidative status change in the liver of Carassius auratus exposed to ACE and its irradiation products. The UV degradation of ACE follows pseudo-first-order kinetics, and eight irradiation products were identified. Fish were exposed 7days to 0.1 and 10mg/L ACE (ACE group) and ACE after UV irradiance (ACE-UV group). The oxidative stress in fish liver exposed to ACE group had no distinct change. However, in the ACE-UV group, the quantity of OH was induced by 17.96-55% and the MDA content increased by 16.28-68.28% compared to control. Time-effect exposure in the ACE-UV group showed that in the first 3days the quantity of OH reached its peak, causing severe inhibition of SOD and continuous inducement of GPx. GSH helped scavenge OH and decreased below control after 3days. An increased toxicity of ACE after UV irradiance was observed and its transfer after into aquatic environment needs to be recognized as an environmental risk.

We report on the detection of electric field-induced second harmonic generation (EFISHG) from the anode interfaces of reduced and oxidized Fe-doped SrTiO3 (Fe:STO) single crystals. For the reduced crystal, we observe steady enhancements of the susceptibility components as the imposed dc-voltage increases. The enhancements are attributed to a field-stabilized electrostriction, leading to Fe:Ti-O bond stretching and bending in Fe:Ti-O6 octahedra. For the oxidized crystal, no obvious structural changes are observed below 16 kV/cm. Above 16 kV/cm, a sharp enhancement of the susceptibilities occurs due to local electrostrictive deformations in response to oxygen vacancy migrations away from the anode. Differences between the reduced and oxidized crystals are explained by their relative oxygen vacancy and free carrier concentrations which alter internal electric fields present at the Pt/Fe:STO interfaces. Our results show that the optical SHG technique is a powerful tool for detecting structural changes near perovskite-based oxide interfaces due to field-driven oxygen vacancy migration.
