RESUMO

Manipulation of physical properties in multidimensional tunable moiré superlattice systems is a key focus in nanophotonics, especially for interlayer excitons (IXs) in two-dimensional materials. However, the impact of defects on IXs remains unclear. Here, we thoroughly study the optical properties of WS2/WSe2 heterobilayers with varying defect densities. Low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) characterizations reveal that the low-energy IXs are more susceptible to defects compared to the high-energy IXs. The low-energy IXs also show much faster PL quenching rate with temperature, faster peak width broadening rate with laser power, shorter lifetime, and lower circular polarization compared to the low-energy IXs in the region with fewer defects. These effects are attributed to the combined effects of increased electron scattering, exciton-phonon interactions, and nonradiative channels introduced by the defects. Our findings aid in optimizing moiré superlattice structures.

RESUMO

Two new pentagon-embedded carbo[11]helicenes have been designed and synthesized in a three-step process, which are the first example of carbo[11]helicenes through the post-functionalization of twistacene. TD-DFT analyses indicate that both of them possess high enantiomerization barriers of 42.29 kcal/mol and 40.76 kcal/mol, respectively. They emit strong red fluorescence and can be chemically oxidized into stable cationic radicals upon addition of AgSbF6 evidenced by the bathochromic-shifted absorption spectra and the appearance of electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signals. In addition, such helical derivatives can be chosen as radiative cooling materials in a glass model house, and the maxima of 5.4 °C for the former and 6.5 °C for the latter are found in the comparative tests, which might be caused by the NIR reflective response.

RESUMO

Two pairs of isomers of heptagon-embedded helical arenes (3/6 and 10/13) have been strategically prepared, where the molecular structures of 3 and 13 have been identified through single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The effect of the heptagon unit on the physical properties of 3, 6, 10, and 13 is investigated in a comparative manner, and the results indicate that the optical enantiomers of 13 obtained from HPLC exhibit promising chiroptical properties.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Job crafting is associated with positive work-related outcomes, but its effects on nonwork-related outcomes are unclear. The conservation of resources theory informed the hypotheses that work-nonwork facilitation mediates the relationship between job crafting and general health, and this mediation process is moderated by perceived boundary control. METHODS: Using a two-wave design, 383 employees from a range of work settings completed questionnaires in which they rated job crafting, work-nonwork facilitation, general health and perceived boundary control. RESULTS: Moderated mediation analysis showed that work-nonwork facilitation mediated the relationship between job crafting and employee general health. Further, perceived boundary control moderated this indirect effect, such that the indirect effect was stronger for employees with high perceived boundary control than those with low perceived boundary control. CONCLUSIONS: This study is an important step forward in understanding the effect of job crafting on nonwork domains, and in clarifying "how" and "when" job crafting might affect employees' general health. Further, the results have practical implications for fostering employee general health.

RESUMO

Epidemiological studies have shown that prenatal triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) exposure is related to abnormal neurobehavior in children. However, the neurodevelopmental toxicity of TPhP in mammals is limited. To study the neurodevelopmental toxicity of TPhP in mammals and investigate the underlying mechanism, we used a mouse intrauterine TPhP exposure model. We measured the inflammatory factors (IL-6, TNFα) and NFκB levels, and tryptophan metabolism in placentae, detected the fetal brain transcriptome, hippocampal neuron development and neurobehavioral in the male offspring. The results showed that the protein level of IL-6, TNFα and NFκB in the placenta of the TPhP treatment group (1, 5 mg/kg) were significantly increased. Change of the protein level of these pro-inflammatory factors in maternal serum or fetal brain was not observed. Expression of genes along tryptophan-serotonin metabolism pathway were significantly decreased. While, the concentration of 5-HT levels in the placenta or fetal brain were significantly increased. Consistent with the increased 5-HT, the Nissl body was reduced in the hippocampus of treatment group. The expression of serotonergic neuron gene markers including Tph2, Htr1A, Htr2A, Pet1 and Lmx1b in the hippocampus of treatment group was significantly decreased. The neurobehavioral test showed that TPhP decreased center time that represent anxiety-like behavior, and reduced learning and memory in male offspring. Meanwhile, expression of genes along tryptophan-kynurenine metabolism pathway were significantly increased. The result of the transcriptome analysis of fetal brain showed that the differentially expressed genes are mainly involved in the transcription regulation of DNA as a template in the nucleus, and the enriched pathways are mainly signal pathways regulated by axon guidance and neurotrophic factors, dopaminergic and cholinergic synapses, suggest that not only serotonergic neuronal was affected. Overall, this study demonstrates that TPhP has the potential to induce placental inflammatory response in the placenta, disturb placental tryptophan metabolism, compromise the neuronal development and synaptic transmission, and cause abnormal neurobehavior in male offspring.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Research on how employees recover from work has focused primarily on recovery during non-work hours (external recovery) rather than recovery during work hours (internal recovery). Using the conservation of resources theory as a conceptual framework, we tested whether job crafting promotes an internal recovery state, and examined the processes that explain this association. METHODS: Using the daily diary method, 120 full-time employees provided information before and after work for 5 days by rating job crafting, ego depletion, self-control demands at work, fatigue and vigor. RESULTS: The results of multilevel modeling showed that after controlling for employees' fatigue and vigor before work, daily job crafting predicted significantly better internal recovery (greater vigor and lower fatigue at the end of workday), and this association was mediated by lower ego depletion. The links between job crafting and internal recovery were stronger for employees with high self-control demands at work. CONCLUSIONS: This study extends recovery research by examining internal recovery as well as job crafting as its antecedent. Further, the present study suggests that managers may consider encouraging and offering job crafting interventions for employees to achieve internal recovery state.

RESUMO

Facial anthropometric measurements play an important part not only in forensic cases but also in clinical treatments. The utilization of 2D photograph methods in facial anthropometric studies to found database with age, gender, ethnicity, and region was expanded by other races but little for Han nationality. This study was undertaken to describe reference ranges of facial anthropometric proportions of Han nationality and compare the anthropometric characteristics with other ethnicities. Our subjects focused on full-face photos of Han nationality in South China which consisted of 1176 healthy person (425 adult males, 421 adult females and 157 underage boys and 173 underage girls). Eight anthropometric landmarks on photos were examined by ImageJ software, and 7 anthropometric ratios were analyzed. The results indicated sex- and age- and ethnics-related anthropometric variations in Chinese Han nationality in South China. For adults, females have larger ratios in intercanthal-nasal width and lip height index and smaller nose width index; for impubes, boys were larger in lip height index and smaller in lip width ratios than girls, but as age achieved, the underage boys and girls exhibited a significantly larger nose width index and lip width index, smaller canthal index, intercanthal-nasal width and lip height index. Comparing with Japanese, India, North American and Persian, Chinese Han showed great difference in facial anthropometric proportions.

RESUMO

Background: Early-life stress increases the risk for posttraumatic stress disorder. However, the epigenetic mechanism of early-life stress-induced susceptibility to posttraumatic stress disorder in adulthood remains unclear. Methods: Rat pups were exposed to maternal deprivation during postnatal days 1 to 14 for 3 hours daily and treated with the DNA methyltransferase inhibitor zebularine, L-methionine, or vehicle 7 days before contextual fear conditioning, which was used as a second stress and to mimic the reexperiencing symptom of posttraumatic stress disorder in adulthood. Long-term potentiation, dendritic spine density, DNA methyltransferase mRNA, Reelin gene methylation, and Reelin protein expression in the hippocampal CA1 were measured. Results: Maternal deprivation enhanced contextual fear memory in adulthood. Meanwhile, maternal deprivation decreased DNA methyltransferase mRNA and Reelin gene methylation in the hippocampal CA1 on postnatal days 22 and 90. Reelin protein expression was increased in the hippocampal CA1 following contextual fear conditioning in adulthood. Furthermore, compared with rats that experienced maternal deprivation alone, rats also exposed to contextual fear conditioning showed an enhanced induction of hippocampal long-term potentiation and increased dendritic spine density in the hippocampal CA1 following contextual fear conditioning in adulthood. Zebularine pretreatment led to an enhancement of contextual fear memory, hypomethylation of the Reelin gene, and increased Reelin protein expression in adult rats, while L-methionine had the opposite effects. Conclusions: Maternal deprivation can epigenetically program second-hit stress-induced Reelin expression and enhance the susceptibility to contextual fear memory in adulthood. These findings provide a new framework for understanding the cumulative stress hypothesis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recent advances in massively parallel sequencing (MPS) technology have provided efficient methods for noninvasive prenatal paternity testing (NIPAT). However, a well-accepted protocol has not been established. The present study developed an MPS-based approach for NIPAT and compared the performance of two recently reported methods for MPS data interpretation. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: We selected 1795 unlinked polymorphic single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and performed paternity analysis in 34 real parentage test cases with maternal plasma samples using the Illumina HiSeq platform. Sequencing data were interpreted by the straightforward counting method for the identification of paternal alleles and mathematical algorithms for paternity index (PI) calculation, respectively. RESULTS: Based on the sequencing data from each family case, both of the two statistical approaches produced a significant separation between the biological father and 90 unrelated males (p < 0.0001) when sufficient effective loci were attained. Nevertheless, up to 30.82% of real paternal alleles were filtered by a predefined cutoff and resulted in insufficient effective loci, especially in plasma samples with low fetal fraction (approx. 90.60% were filtered). In contrast, the PI calculation model utilized all maternal homozygous SNPs as effective loci (approx. 40% of total SNPs) and successfully identified the correct biological father, with the log-transformed combined PI (Lg(CPI)) value varying from 68.23 to 158.01 in each family case. CONCLUSION: Our study illustrates that the Bayesian approach represents the better choice in NIPAT data interpretation. Further, the adoption of more informative markers (e.g., tri-allelic SNPs, tetra-allelic SNPs, and micro-haplotypes) or deeper sequencing is recommended for the improvement of the testing efficiency.

RESUMO

Although client feedback has been demonstrated to improve psychotherapy outcomes in over a dozen randomized clinical trials, no studies to date have investigated the feedback effect outside of the United States or Europe. This study examined the impact of a client feedback intervention, the Partners for Change Outcome Management System, in a college counseling center in Wuhan, China (N = 186). Using a randomized design within routine care, treatment as usual (TAU; n = 85) was compared with a feedback condition (n = 101) in which therapists had access to client-generated outcome and alliance information at each session. Clients in the feedback condition demonstrated significantly greater improvement than those in the TAU condition at posttreatment. Not-on-track (n = 60) clients also demonstrated significantly more improvement at 6 times the rate of reliable change compared with the TAU condition. Survival analysis revealed that 66.7% of the clients in the feedback condition achieved reliable and clinically significant change after a median of 4 sessions whereas 57.0% of the clients in the TAU condition achieved reliable and clinically significant change after a median of 6 sessions. Alliance scores improved significantly more across treatment and were higher at posttreatment in the feedback condition. Although preliminary, this study suggests that the positive effects of improved outcomes and increased efficiency associated with systematic client feedback can also occur in a college counseling setting in China. RESUMO

Biological motion (BM) is the movement of animate entities, which conveys rich social information. To obtain pure BM, researchers nowadays predominantly use point-light displays (PLDs), which depict BM through a set of light points (e.g., 12 points) placed at distinct joints of a moving human body. Most prevalent BM stimuli are created by state-of-the-art motion capture systems. Although these stimuli are highly precise, the motion capture system is expensive and bulky, and its process of constructing a PLD-based BM is time-consuming and complex. These factors impede the investigation of BM mechanisms. In this study, we propose a free Kinect-based biological motion capture (KBC) toolbox based on the Kinect Sensor 2.0 in C++. The KBC toolbox aims to help researchers acquire PLD-based BM in an easy, low-cost, and user-friendly way. We conducted three experiments to examine whether KBC-generated BM can genuinely reflect the processing characteristics of BM: (1) Is BM from this source processed globally in vision? (2) Does its BM (e.g., from the feet) retain detailed local information? and (3) Does the BM convey emotional information? We obtained positive results in response to all three questions. Therefore, we think that the KBC toolbox can be useful in generating BM for future research.

RESUMO

Paichongding is an adicyclicnitromethylene neonicotinoid insecticide with a cis-configuration. Bioassay of paichongding was conducted against Nilaparvata lugens Stål under a laboratory condition. Mortality of N. lugens was analyzed by time-concentration-mortality (TCM) regressions based on the complementary log-log (CLL) model. The conditional mortalities of test individuals increased with the exposure time after treatments with different concentrations, showing that the speed of insecticidal action is concentration dependent. Meanwhile, the conditional mortalities of N. lugens increased as the concentrations of paichongding increased for all developmental stages from instars I-II to macropterous females. Correspondingly, LC(50) and LC90 values to N. lugens gradually decreased with the developmental stages, in which instars I-II were the most sensitive to paichongding, with LC(50) values of 6.31, 0.45, 0.09, and 0.03 mg/liter for 24, 48, 72, and 96 h after treatments, respectively, while macropterous females were the least sensitive among all developmental stages, with LC(50) values of 309.03, 11.48, 1.35, and 0.19 mg/liter at 24, 48, 72, and 96 h after the treatments, respectively. The time-concentration-mortality modeling was mathematically and biologically robust to evaluate the effects of paichongding on N. lugens. The results suggest that paichongding would be an effective alternative pesticide for controlling N. lugens considering its potent effects.

RESUMO

Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) is a major rice pest in Asia. Paichongding is a novel neonicotinoid insecticide developed in 2008. The effects of this insecticide on the activity of detoxification enzymes of N. lugens and on rice resistance to the pest were examined in the laboratory. The results showed that paichongding could significantly decrease the acetylcholinesterase and GSHs transferase activities of N. lugens. The variation tendency of mixed function oxidase (MFO) activity was similar with that of the esterase. After 12 h treatment, there was no significance between the treatment and control. However, the activities of MFO and esterase increased after 24 and 48 h treatment, which suggested that MFO and esterase may play an important role in the detoxification of paichongding for N. lugens. Our results also demonstrated that treated with paichongding, damage levels of rice plants were significantly lower than those of control plants except 15 days after treatment. Compared with the control, injury indices decreased 70.22, 49.12, 34.44, and 23.23% at 3 , 6 , 9, and 12 days after paichongding treatment, respectively. The laboratory results suggested that paichongding may be effective for the control of brown planthopper.

RESUMO

A pair of novel chiral 1-phenylethylamine-modified twistarenes (4 and 11; compound 4 = 9,14-di-tert-butyl-7,16-diphenyl-2-(1-phenylethyl)-1H-benzo[8',9']triphenyleno[2',3':6,7]fluoreno[2,1,9-def]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione) have been synthesized and characterized, and how the solvent component affects the chirality transfer of their self-assembled processes is investigated in mixtures with THF and H2O. The ordered assembly of 11 exhibits circular dichroism response. In addition, both 11a and 11b display positive photoconducting behavior.

RESUMO

A family of chiral nanographenes bearing [6]helicene units has been synthesized via the classical Scholl reaction. Inserting the [6]helicene unit into the parent nanographene skeleton can result in different structural topologies and optoelectric properties. Moreover, the isolated enantiomers exhibit attractive chiroptical properties.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to investigate the current situation of internet gaming disorder (IGD) in Chinese adolescents and explore the impact of IGD-related factors on adolescent aggression. We hypothesized that IGD symptoms in adolescents would be associated with aggressive behavior and that risk factors for IGD symptoms could increase the aggressive tendencies of adolescents. To verify the above hypothesis, a cross-sectional survey of junior and senior high school students from southern, southwestern, central, and eastern China was conducted. A total of 9306 valid questionnaires were collected. The results showed that the prevalence of IGD symptoms was 1.78 % among Chinese adolescents. The adolescents in the disordered gamer group had the most severe IGD symptoms, with the highest levels of psychological distress and aggression. Interestingly, adolescents in the casual gamer group had the lowest psychological distress and aggression scores. Linear regression analysis further showed that higher levels of aggression were significantly associated with male sex, younger age, more severe psychological distress and IGD symptoms, and more violent game exposure. Our results suggested that excessive online gaming not only contributes to psychological distress in adolescents but also increases their levels of aggressive behavior. Apart from male sex and younger age, severe IGD symptoms and psychological distress are the most important predictors of the development of aggressive behavior.

RESUMO

Methamphetamine, a commonly abused drug, is known for its high relapse rate. The persistence of addictive memories associated with methamphetamine poses a significant challenge in preventing relapse. Memory retrieval and subsequent reconsolidation provide an opportunity to disrupt addictive memories. However, the key node in the brain network involved in methamphetamine-associated memory retrieval has not been clearly defined. In this study, using the conditioned place preference in male mice, whole brain c-FOS mapping and functional connectivity analysis, together with chemogenetic manipulations of neural circuits, we identified the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) as a critical hub that integrates inputs from the retrosplenial cortex and the ventral tegmental area to support both the expression and reconsolidation of methamphetamine-associated memory during its retrieval. Surprisingly, with further cell-type specific analysis and manipulation, we also observed that methamphetamine-associated memory retrieval activated inhibitory neurons in the mPFC to facilitate memory reconsolidation, while suppressing excitatory neurons to aid memory expression. These findings provide novel insights into the neural circuits and cellular mechanisms involved in the retrieval process of addictive memories. They suggest that targeting the balance between excitation and inhibition in the mPFC during memory retrieval could be a promising treatment strategy to prevent relapse in methamphetamine addiction.

RESUMO

The effect of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) oxidation on the formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs) during sequential (ClO2 pre-oxidation for 30 min) and simultaneous disinfection processes with free chlorine (FC) or monochloramine (MCA) was investigated. The formation of DBPs from synthetic humic acid (HA) water and three natural surface waters containing low bromide levels (11-27 microg/L) was comparatively examined in the FC-based (single FC, sequential ClO2-FC, and simultaneous ClO2/FC) and MCA-based (single MCA, ClO2-MCA, and ClO2/MCA) disinfection processes. The results showed that much more DBPs were formed from the synthetic HA water than from the three natural surface waters with comparative levels of dissolved organic carbon. In the FC-based processes, ClO2 oxidation could reduce trihalomethanes (THMs) by 27-35% and haloacetic acids (HAAs) by 14-22% in the three natural surface waters, but increased THMs by 19% and HAAs by 31% in the synthetic HA water after an FC contact time of 48 h. In the MCA-based processes, similar trends were observed although DBPs were produced at a much lower level. There was an insignificant difference in DBPs formation between the sequential and simultaneous processes. The presence of a high level of bromide (320 microg/L) remarkably promoted the DBPs formation in the FC-based processes. Therefore, the simultaneous disinfection process of ClO2/MCA is recommended particularly for waters with a high bromide level.

RESUMO

Based on the conservation of resources theory, this two-wave study investigated the mediating role of work-nonwork conflict in the relationship between job crafting and employee recovery experience and examined the moderating role of work demands in this relationship. Participants were 486 employees (39.3% male and 60.7% female) from a medical company in the central region of China who responded to a paper-and-pencil survey twice with a 1-month interval. Regression-based results indicated that job crafting positively predicted recovery experience after work through lower work-nonwork conflict. Furthermore, the association between job crafting and work-nonwork conflict was moderated by work demands, such that the effect was stronger for employees with higher work demands. The present study explains how job crafting may improve employees' after-work recovery experience and addresses whether this process could be more significant for employees with higher work demands. The conclusion has practical implications for improving employee recovery experience.

RESUMO

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are widespread environmental pollutants. There is increasing evidence that PFASs have various adverse health effects, including renal toxicity, metabolic dysfunction, endocrine disruption, and developmental toxicity. PFASs have been found to accumulate in the placenta, and some PFASs can cross the placental barrier and subsequently accumulate in the fetus via the maternal-fetal circulation. An increasing number of studies have shown that early life exposure to PFASs can affect fetal neurodevelopment. This paper reviews the characteristics of indirect exposure to PFASs in early life, the effects on neurodevelopment in offspring, and the possible mechanisms of toxic effects.
