RESUMO

A novel and effective simultaneous recording method, to the best of our knowledge, is proposed for improving the diffraction efficiency and uniformity of full-color holographic optical elements (HOE) using the Bayfol HX102 photopolymer. To improve the diffraction efficiency of a full-color HOE, it is important to find the optimal recording beam intensity taking into account the initial and late responses of the medium. The range of optimal beam intensity for recording full-color HOE can be found experimentally by analyzing the inhibition period and response characteristics of the recording medium for three wavelengths. Through this method, a full-color HOE with an average diffraction efficiency of about 56.81% and a standard deviation of about 1.7% was implemented in a single layer photopolymer.

RESUMO

It is difficult to find the micromirror array with desired specifications for augmented-reality displays, and the custom fabricating methods are complicated and unstable. We propose a novel, to our knowledge, three-dimensional see-through augmented-reality display system using the holographic micromirror array. Unlike the conventional holographic waveguide-type augmented-reality displays, the proposed system utilizes the holographic micromirror array as an in-coupler, without any additional elements. The holographic micromirror array is fabricated through the simple, effective, and stable method of applying the total internal reflection-based hologram recording using a dual-prism. The optical mirror and microlens array are set as references, and the specifications can be customized. It reconstructs a three-dimensional image from a displayed elemental image set without using any additional device, and the user can observe a three-dimensional virtual image while viewing the real-world objects. Thus, the principal advantages of the existing holographic waveguide-type augmented-reality system are retained. An optical experiment confirmed that the proposed system displays three-dimensional images exploiting the augmented-reality system simply and effectively.

RESUMO

In this paper, we present an algorithm for complex object wave extraction in off-axis digital holography using a time-multiplexing and frequency spectrum-shifting technique. The proposed approach utilizes the digital time-multiplexing technique, in which two 90-deg-rotated off-axis holograms are recorded in sequence, and corresponding spectra are subtracted in the computed Fourier domain to eliminate the DC term. Then, the two subtracted holograms are digitally multiplexed into one complex hologram in the same plane, and by shifting the spatial frequency spectra of the subtracted hologram in the spatial frequency domain, one of the two cross-correlations can be obtained in the center. This technique simply extracts the spectrum of the real image in the frequency domain than the spatial filtering method.

RESUMO

We propose and implement an integral imaging microscope with extended depth-of-field (DoF) using a bifocal holographic micro lens array (MLA). The properties of the two MLAs are switched via peristrophic multiplexing, where different properties of the MLA are recorded onto the single holographic optical element (HOE). The recorded MLA properties are perpendicular to each other: after the first mode is recorded, the HOE is rotated by 90° clockwise, and the second mode is recorded. The experimental results confirm that the DoF of the integral imaging microscopy system is extended successfully by using the bifocal MLA.

RESUMO

Background: With recent advances in cardiac surgery through minimal access, mini-thoracotomy has emerged as an excellent alternative for cardiac myxoma resection. This study analyzed the surgical results of this approach, focusing on postoperative cerebral embolism and tumor recurrence. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 64 patients (mean age, 56.0±12.1 years; 40 women) who underwent myxoma resection through mini-thoracotomy from October 2008 to July 2020. We conducted femoral cannulation and antegrade cardioplegic arrest in all patients. Patient characteristics and perioperative data, including brain diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) findings, were collected. Medium-term echocardiographic follow-up was performed. Results: Thirteen patients (20.3%) had a history of preoperative stroke, and 7 (11.7%) had dyspnea with New York Heart Association functional class III or IV. Sixty-one cases (95.3%) had myxomas in the left atrium. The mean cardiopulmonary bypass and cardiac ischemic times were 69.0±28.6 and 34.1±15.0 minutes, respectively. Sternotomy conversion was not performed in any case, and 50 patients (78.1%) were extubated in the operating room. No early mortality or postoperative clinical stroke occurred. Postoperative DWI was performed in 32 (53%) patients, and 7 (22%) showed silent cerebral embolisms. One patient underwent reoperation for tumor recurrence during the study period; in that patient, a genetic study confirmed the Carney complex. Conclusion: Mini-thoracotomy for cardiac myxoma resection showed acceptable clinical and neurological outcomes. In the medium-term echocardiographic follow-up, reliable resection was proven, with few recurrences. This approach is a promising alternative for cardiac myxoma resection.

RESUMO

Globally, thousands of patients undergo lung transplantation owing to end-stage lung disease each year. As lung transplantation evolves, recommendations and indications are constantly being updated. In 2021, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation published a new consensus document for selecting candidates for lung transplantation. However, it is still difficult to determine appropriate candidates for lung transplantation among patients with complex medical conditions and various diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze each patient's overall situation and medical condition from various perspectives, and ongoing efforts to optimize the analysis will be necessary. The purpose of this study is to review the extant literature and discuss recent updates.

RESUMO

A new structure for polarization-selective elements, consisting of two holographic gratings and a Dove prism coupler, is proposed. The absence of a multistage waveguide and the benefits of compact size and lightweight volume are the outstanding features of the new structure. Based on the coupled-wave theory, the analysis and design of the structure are discussed in detail to calculate the required index modulation. Several parameters, such as the recording intensity, the exposure time, and the recording angles for the fabrication of the proposed element, are determined. Under these conditions, the element is fabricated in Dupont photopolymer HRF-150-38 material and with an operating wavelength of 532 nm. A simplified pickup head is constructed to evaluate the performance of the fabricated element.
