RESUMO

The objective of this study was to contribute to genetic improvement for carcass quality in Nellore cattle by estimating genetic parameters for carcass characteristics measured by traditional and novel ultrasound adjusted for body weight. Records of 19,910 Nellore breed animals born between 2001 and 2015 as part of a genetic improvement program were evaluated for this purpose. The (co)variance components and genetic parameters for yearling weight (YW), slaughter conformation at yearling age (SCY), ribeye area (REA), REA adjusted for 100 kg of body weight (REA100), REA adjusted for 450 kg of body weight (REA450), subcutaneous fat thickness over the loin (SFTL) and the rump (SFTR), intramuscular fat (IF), and height × width ratio of the sirloin steak (RATIO) were estimated using the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) method and the three-trait animal model. The estimated heritability values were 0.39 (YW), 0.33 (SCY), 0.31 (REA), 0.42 (REA100), 0.38 (REA450), 0.31 (RATIO), 0.17 (SFTL), 0.27 (SFTR), and 0.41 (MAR). The genetic correlations between REA and YW (0.43) and SCY and YW (0.78), respectively, suggested that selecting for REA or SCY could result in an increase in body weight. Because of its moderate and negative correlation with YW, REA100 was ineffective as a muscling indicator (- 0.38). The indicators REA450 and RATIO had a - 0.12 and 0.11 low correlation with YW, respectively. Thus, it is concluded that REA450 and RATIO were the best indicators of muscling, with heritability of medium magnitude, making the selection viable, as well as having a low correlation with body weight.

RESUMO

We obtained heritability and (co)variance component estimates for slaughter conformation scores at 420 days of age (SCS420), age at calving (first, AFC; second, ASC), calving occurrence until 38 months of age (CP38), weight at 420 days of age (W420), and scrotal circumference at 420 days (SC420) in Canchim (5/8 Charolais + 3/8 Zebu) cattle. A total of 23,168 records of Canchim animals, including 12,493 females and 10,675 males, were analyzed. SCS420 indicated carcass structure, muscle development, and subcutaneous fat deposition. The slaughter conformation score of each animal was relative to the whole contemporary group; 1 corresponded to the lowest expression of the trait and 6 to the highest. Heritabilities, and genetic and residual correlation estimates between SCS420 and reproductive and weight traits, were estimated by multitrait analyses using an animal model with Bayesian inference, employing a linear model for AFC, ASC, SC420, and W420 and a threshold model for CP38 and SCS420. Heritability estimates for SCS420, AFC, ASC, CP38, W420, and SC420 were 0.11, 0.15, 0.15, 0.15, 0.30, and 0.30, respectively. Genetic correlation estimates between SCS420 and the other traits were 0.08 (AFC), 0.58 (ASC), 0.08 (CP38), 0.43 (W420), and 0.17 (SC420). Visual slaughter conformation scores respond to individual selection and can be used as selection criteria in Canchim cattle. Selection to improve sexual precocity would not be effective in improving carcass conformation and composition, and selection for animals with high breeding values for yearling weight may improve slaughter conformation at the yearling stage.

RESUMO

The productivity of herds may be negatively affected by inbreeding depression, and it is important to know how intense is this effect on the livestock performance. We performed a comprehensive analysis involving five Zebu breeds reared in Brazil to estimate inbreeding depression in productive and reproductive traits. Inbreeding depression was estimated for 13 traits by including the individual inbreeding rate as a linear covariate in the standard genetic evaluation models. For all breeds and for almost all traits (no effect was observed on gestation length), the performance of the animals was compromised by an increase in inbreeding. The average inbreeding depression was -0.222% and -0.859% per 1% of inbreeding for linear regression coefficients scaled on the percentage of mean (ßm ) and standard deviation (ßσ ), respectively. The means for ßm (and ßσ ) were -0.269% (-1.202%) for weight/growth traits and -0.174% (-0.546%) for reproductive traits. Hence, inbreeding depression is more pronounced in weight/growth traits than in reproductive traits. These findings highlight the need for the management of inbreeding in the respective breeding programmes of the breeds studied here.

RESUMO

Beef cattle production requires reproductive efficiency. However, measures of reproductive traits are not usually collected; consequently, correlated traits that could be used as indicators would be useful. We examined associations between measures of reproductive and productive efficiency that could be used as selection indicators. Data from 194 dams of the genetic groups Angus x Nelore, Caracu x Nelore, and Valdostana x Nelore collected over 4 years were used. The reproductive traits analyzed were days to heat (DH), calving interval (CI), days to calving (DC), and pregnancy rate (PR). The productive traits were dam weight (DW), body condition score (BCS), calf weight (CW), and weaning rate (WR). The effects on the model were: year, genetic group, reproductive status (RS), age, reproductive rest, and breed of bull (CW and WR). Multivariate analyses were performed, using the Bayesian approach via Gibbs sampling. We conclude that the reproductive measures are ineffective as selection indicators, whereas using dam weight may be a good alternative.

RESUMO

Brazilian Nellore cattle (Bos indicus) have been selected for growth traits for over more than four decades. In recent years, reproductive and meat quality traits have become more important because of increasing consumption, exports and consumer demand. The identification of genome regions altered by artificial selection can potentially permit a better understanding of the biology of specific phenotypes that are useful for the development of tools designed to increase selection efficiency. Therefore, the aims of this study were to detect evidence of recent selection signatures in Nellore cattle using extended haplotype homozygosity methodology and BovineHD marker genotypes (>777,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms) as well as to identify corresponding genes underlying these signals. Thirty-one significant regions (P < 0.0001) of possible recent selection signatures were detected, and 19 of these overlapped quantitative trait loci related to reproductive traits, growth, feed efficiency, meat quality, fatty acid profiles and immunity. In addition, 545 genes were identified in regions harboring selection signatures. Within this group, 58 genes were associated with growth, muscle and adipose tissue metabolism, reproductive traits or the immune system. Using relative extended haplotype homozygosity to analyze high-density single nucleotide polymorphism marker data allowed for the identification of regions potentially under artificial selection pressure in the Nellore genome, which might be used to better understand autozygosity and the effects of selection on the Nellore genome.

RESUMO

Meat quality traits are economically important because they affect consumers' acceptance, which, in turn, influences the demand for beef. However, selection to improve meat quality is limited by the small numbers of animals on which meat tenderness can be evaluated due to the cost of performing shear force analysis and the resultant damage to the carcass. Genome wide-association studies for Warner-Bratzler shear force measured at different times of meat aging, backfat thickness, ribeye muscle area, scanning parameters [lightness, redness (a*), and yellowness] to ascertain color characteristics of meat and fat, water-holding capacity, cooking loss (CL), and muscle pH were conducted using genotype data from the Illumina BovineHD BeadChip array to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) in all phenotyped Nelore cattle. Phenotype count for these animals ranged from 430 to 536 across traits. Meat quality traits in Nelore are controlled by numerous QTL of small effect, except for a small number of large-effect QTL identified for a*fat, CL, and pH. Genomic regions harboring these QTL and the pathways in which the genes from these regions act appear to differ from those identified in taurine cattle for meat quality traits. These results will guide future QTL mapping studies and the development of models for the prediction of genetic merit to implement genomic selection for meat quality in Nelore cattle.

RESUMO

Phenotypic data from female Canchim beef cattle were used to obtain estimates of genetic parameters for reproduction and growth traits using a linear animal mixed model. In addition, relationships among animal estimated breeding values (EBVs) for these traits were explored using principal component analysis. The traits studied in female Canchim cattle were age at first calving (AFC), age at second calving (ASC), calving interval (CI), and bodyweight at 420 days of age (BW420). The heritability estimates for AFC, ASC, CI and BW420 were 0.03±0.01, 0.07±0.01, 0.06±0.02, and 0.24±0.02, respectively. The genetic correlations for AFC with ASC, AFC with CI, AFC with BW420, ASC with CI, ASC with BW420, and CI with BW420 were 0.87±0.07, 0.23±0.02, -0.15±0.01, 0.67±0.13, -0.07±0.13, and 0.02±0.14, respectively. Standardised EBVs for AFC, ASC and CI exhibited a high association with the first principal component, whereas the standardised EBV for BW420 was closely associated with the second principal component. The heritability estimates for AFC, ASC and CI suggest that these traits would respond slowly to selection. However, selection response could be enhanced by constructing selection indices based on the principal components.

RESUMO

Meat quality is an important trait for the beef industry. Backfat thickness, ribeye area, and shear force are traits measured late in life, and the investigation of molecular markers associated with these traits can help breeding programs. In cattle, some polymorphisms have been related to production traits. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the presence of polymorphisms in the candidate genes insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1), fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4), and peroxisome proliferative active receptor gamma coactivator 1 A (PPARGC1A) and associate them with production traits in reference families of Nelore cattle. We used 270 steers descendent from 20 sires that were chosen to represent variability in this breed. The investigation of marker effects on the traits was performed using a mixed model under the restricted maximum likelihood method. A significant allele substitution effect was found for IGF1 and yearling weight (P ≤ 0.017). The mean allele substitution effect was 6.9 kg, with the 229 allele associated with reduced yearling weight in this Nelore population.

RESUMO

Crossbreeding represents an important technique to improve growth, beef quality and adaptability in beef production systems in tropical countries. The aim of this study was to evaluate sire and dam breed effects on performance and carcass traits of crossbred cattle produced in a tropical environment. Heifers and steers were evaluated during the pre-weaning, the post-weaning (n = 173) and the finishing phase (n = 123). Animals were produced by mating Nellore (N_N), Angus × Nellore (A_N) and Caracu × Nellore (C_N) dams with Braford, Charbray and Caracu sires. After weaning, animals were raised grazing on Marandu grass for 12 months; thereafter they were housed in individual pens and finished in a feedlot, receiving a total mixed ration. Ultrasound carcass evaluations were performed to determine ribeye area (R_A), backfat thickness (B_T) and rump fat thickness (R_T). A_N progeny were heavier at birth than N_N (P < 0.05), and Braford progeny had greater birth BW than Caracu (P < 0.05). Greater weaning BW was observed in the A_N and C_N offspring compared to N_N (P < 0.01). Greater average daily gain during the post-weaning period was verified in the N_N progeny compared to C_N (P < 0.05). No dam or sire breed effects were observed for BW at the end of the post-weaning period (P > 0.05). Progeny of N_N cows had greater B_T (P < 0.05) and R_T (P < 0.01) at the end of the post-weaning period in relation to C_N. Greater R_A was observed in the Caracu progeny than in the Braford (P < 0.05), which showed greater R_T than the Charbray progeny at the end of the post-weaning period (P < 0.05). No dam or sire breed effects were verified for final BW at the feedlot or for feed efficiency traits (P > 0.05). A_N progeny were superior in final B_T compared to C_N (P < 0.01), and Braford progeny had greater R_T at the end of finishing than Charbray (P = 0.05). The use of crossbred dams allows an increase in productivity until weaning, but this is not maintained in the post-weaning and finishing periods. The use of Braford sires produces similar growth performance in the different stages of the production system to those seen with Charbray and Caracu sires but generates animals with higher fat thickness at the end of finishing, which may improve carcass quality and commercial value.

RESUMO

Longer-lived cows tend to be more profitable and the stayability trait is a selection criterion correlated to longevity. An alternative to the traditional approach to evaluate stayability is its definition based on consecutive calvings, whose main advantage is the more accurate evaluation of young bulls. However, no study using this alternative approach has been conducted for Zebu breeds. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare linear random regression models to fit stayability to consecutive calvings of Guzerá, Nelore and Tabapuã cows and to estimate genetic parameters for this trait in the respective breeds. Data up to the eighth calving were used. The models included the fixed effects of age at first calving and year-season of birth of the cow and the random effects of contemporary group, additive genetic, permanent environmental and residual. Random regressions were modeled by orthogonal Legendre polynomials of order 1 to 4 (2 to 5 coefficients) for contemporary group, additive genetic and permanent environmental effects. Using Deviance Information Criterion as the selection criterion, the model with 4 regression coefficients for each effect was the most adequate for the Nelore and Tabapuã breeds and the model with 5 coefficients is recommended for the Guzerá breed. For Guzerá, heritabilities ranged from 0.05 to 0.08, showing a quadratic trend with a peak between the fourth and sixth calving. For the Nelore and Tabapuã breeds, the estimates ranged from 0.03 to 0.07 and from 0.03 to 0.08, respectively, and increased with increasing calving number. The additive genetic correlations exhibited a similar trend among breeds and were higher for stayability between closer calvings. Even between more distant calvings (second v. eighth), stayability showed a moderate to high genetic correlation, which was 0.77, 0.57 and 0.79 for the Guzerá, Nelore and Tabapuã breeds, respectively. For Guzerá, when the models with 4 or 5 regression coefficients were compared, the rank correlations between predicted breeding values for the intercept were always higher than 0.99, indicating the possibility of practical application of the least parameterized model. In conclusion, the model with 4 random regression coefficients is recommended for the genetic evaluation of stayability to consecutive calvings in Zebu cattle.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to compare estimates of genetic parameters for sequential growth of beef cattle using two models and two data sets. Growth curves of Nellore cattle were analyzed using body weights measured at ages 1 (birth weight) to 733 d. Two data samples were created, one with 71,867 records sampled from all herds (MISS), and the other with 74,601 records sampled from herds with no missing traits (NMISS). Records preadjusted to a fixed age were analyzed by a multiple-trait model (MTM), which included the effects of contemporary group, age of dam class, additive direct, additive maternal, and maternal permanent environment. Analyses were by REML, with five traits at a time. The random regression model (RRM) included the effects of age of animal, contemporary group, age of dam class, additive direct, additive maternal, permanent environment, and maternal permanent environment. All effects were modeled as cubic Legendre polynomials. These analyses were also by REML. Shapes of estimates of variances by MTM were mostly similar for both data sets for all except late ages, where estimates for MISS were less regular, and for birth weight with MISS. Genetic correlations among ages for the direct and maternal effects were less smooth with MISS. Genetic correlations between direct and maternal effects were more negative for NMISS, where few sires were maternal grandsires. Parameter estimates with RRM were similar to MTM cept that estimates of variances showed more artifacts for MISS; the estimates of additive direct-maternal correlations were more negative with both data sets and approached -1.0 for some ages with NMISS. When parameters of a growth model obtained by used for genetic evaluation, these parameters should be examined for consistency with parameters from MTM and prior information, and adjustments may be required to eliminate artifacts.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to identify issues in genetic evaluation of beef cattle for growth by a random regression model (RRM). Genetic evaluation data included 2,946,847 records of up to nine sequential weights of 812,393 Nellore cattle measured at ages ranging from birth to 733 d. Models considered were a five-trait multiple-trait model (MTM) and a cubic RRM. The MTM included the effects of contemporary group, age of dam class, additive direct, additive maternal, and maternal permanent environment. Both additive effects were assumed correlated. The RRM included the same effects as MTM, with the addition of permanent and random error effects. The purpose of the random error effect, which was in addition to a residual effect with constant variance, was to model heterogeneous residual variances. All effects in RRM were modeled as cubic Legendre polynomials. Expected progeny differences (EPD) were obtained iteratively using a preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm. Numerically accurate solutions with RRM were not obtained until the random regressions were orthogonalized. Computing requirements of RRM were reduced by more than 50%, without affecting the accuracy by removing regressions corresponding to very low eigen-values and by replacing the random error effects with weights. Afterward, the correlations between EPD from RRM and from MTM for EPD on selected weights were between 0.84 and 0.89. For sires with at least 50 progeny, these correlations increased to 0.92 to 0.97. Low correlations were caused by differences in parameters. The RRM applied to growth i s prone to numerical problems. Estimates of EPD with RRM may be more accurate than those with MTM only if accurate parameters are applied.

RESUMO

The ASAP1 gene is located in a QTL region for meat production traits and to access the role of the ASAP1 gene, the association between a SNP in this gene and production traits in beef cattle was studied. For this, about 270 steers of reference families of Nelore breed were used. The investigation of marker effects on the traits was performed using a mixed model under the restricted maximum likelihood method. Novel association of a SNP in the ASAP1 gene and shear force measured at 24 h post mortem (P≤0.0083) was described in this population of Nelore cattle. This polymorphism accounted for 1.13% of the total additive variance and 17.51% of total phenotypic variance of the trait, suggesting that this marker could be used in marker assisted selection.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to investigate the presence of genotype × environment interactions (G×E) for long-yearling weight in Canchim cattle (5/8 Charolais + 3/8 zebu) in Brazil using reaction norms (RN). The hierarchical RN model included the fixed effect of age of the animal (linear coefficient) and random effects of contemporary groups and additive animal genetic intercept and slope of the RN and contemporary group effects as random effects. Contemporary groups as the most elemental representation of management conditions in beef cattle were chosen to represent the environmental covariate of the RN. The deviance information criteria demonstrated that a homoskedastic residual RN model provided a better data fit compared with a heteroskedastic counterpart and with a traditional animal model, which had the worst fit. The environmental gradient for long-yearling weight based on contemporary group effects ranged from -105 to 150 kg. The additive direct variance and heritability estimates increased with increasing environmental gradient from 74.33 ± 22.32 to 1,922.59 ± 258.99 kg(2) and from 0.08 ± 0.02 to 0.68 ± 0.03, respectively. The high genetic correlation (0.90 ± 0.03) between the intercept and the slope of the RN shows that animals with the greatest breeding values best responded to environmental improvement, characterizing scale effect as the source of G×E for long-yearling weight. The phenotypic plasticity demonstrated by the slope of the RN of the animal indicates the possibility to change genotype expression along the environmental gradient through selection. The results demonstrate the importance of accounting for G×E in the genetic evaluation of this population.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for BW of Angus cattle up to 5 yr of age and to discuss options for including mature weight (MW) in their genetic evaluation. Data were obtained from the American Angus Association. Only records from herds with at least 500 animals and with >10% of animals with BW at ≥ 2 yr of age were considered. Traits were weaning weight (WW, n = 81,525), yearling weight (YW, n = 62,721), and BW measured from 2 to 5 yr of age (MW2, n = 15,927; MW3, n = 12,404; MW4, n = 9,805; MW5, n = 7,546). Genetic parameters were estimated using an AIREML algorithm with a multiple-trait animal model. Fixed effects were contemporary group and departure of the actual age from standard age (205, 365, 730, 1,095, 1,460, and 1,825 d of age for WW, YW, MW2, MW3, MW4, and MW5, respectively). Random effects were animal direct additive genetic, maternal additive genetic, maternal permanent environment, and residual. Estimates of direct genetic variances (kg(2)) were 298 ± 71.8, 563 ± 15.1, 925 ± 52.1, 1,221 ± 65.8, 1,406 ± 80.4, and 1,402 ± 66.9; maternal genetic variances were 167 ± 4.8, 153 ± 6.1, 123 ± 9.1, 136 ± 12.25, 167 ± 18.0, and 110 ± 14.0; maternal permanent environment variances were 124 ± 2.9, 120 ± 4.3, 61 ± 7.5, 69 ± 11.9, 103 ± 15.9, and 134 ± 35.2; and residual variances were 258 ± 3.8, 608 ± 8.6, 829 ± 34.2, 1,016 ± 38.8, 1,017 ± 52.1, and 1,202 ± 63.22 for WW, YW, MW2, MW3, MW4, and MW5, respectively. The direct genetic correlation between WW and YW was 0.84 ± 0.14 and between WW and MW ranged from 0.66 ± 0.06 (WW and MW4) to 0.72 ± 0.11 (WW and MW2). Direct genetic correlations ranged from 0.77 ± 0.08 (YW and MW5) to 0.85 ± 0.07 (YW and MW2) between YW and MW, and they were ≥ 0.95 among MW2, MW3, MW4, and MW5. Maternal genetic correlations between WW and YW and MW ranged from 0.52 ± 0.05 (WW and MW4) to 0.95 ± 0.07 (WW and YW), and among MW they ranged from 0.54 ± 0.14 (MW4 and MW5) to 0.94 ± 0.07 (MW2 and MW3). Genetic correlations suggest that a genetic evaluation for MW may be MW2-based and that including BW from older ages could be accomplished by adjusting records to the scale of MW2.

Foram avaliadas 40 matrizes AN, 37 CN, 51 NE e 43 SC.

With the aim of evaluating Nelore (NE), 1/2 Angus + 1/2 Nelore (AN), 1/2 Caracu + 1/2 Nelore (CN), and 1/2 Senepol + 1/2 Caracu (SC) females for sexual precocity on pasture backgrounding, reproductive efficiency and productive performance of cows and their calves of each genetic group (GG), animals of these groups were produced for three years. A total of 40 AN, 37 CN, 51 NE and 43 SC cows were evaluated. For early heifer pregnancy, AN cows had pregnancy rate of 92.2% compared to 29.1% for CN, 22.6% for SC and 1.1% for NE. For conventional heifer pregnancy AN obtained 99.4%, CN with 98.8%, SC with 84.4% and NE with 80.0%. The first reconception of AN cows were 86.3%, 75.1% for CN, 49.6% for NE and 43.6% for SC. AN cows also had lower age at first calving in months, 26.36±0.79, compared to 31.33±0.86 for CN, 33.51±0.98 for SC and 38.08±0.74 for NE. For weaning weigth the three-cross from AN were heavier than the F1s from NE, by a margin of 19%. For calf:cow weight ratio there was no statistical difference among GG. AN cows were superior to the others in both productive and reproductive aspects, followed by the CN cows.(AU)

In order to study the stability and adaptability of Tabapuã cattle for the characteristic weight at 120 days of maternal effect, we used methods based on linear regression. The analysis included differences in the expected progeny of five sire sin herds located in four farms in the states of Bahia, (herds 1and 2), Paraná (herd 3) and Minas Gerais (herd 4). The results show that the performance of bulls depend largely on the genetic variability of the matrices for different characteristics in herds studied, allowing the recommendation of a specific breeding herd. Analyses of adaptability and stability discriminated performance differences in herds. Bulls were identified as adapted and perfectly stable, bulls with general adaptation, and with specific adaptation to favorable and unfavorable environments.

RESUMO

Expected progeny differences (EPD) of Nellore cattle estimated by random regression model (RRM) and multiple trait model (MTM) were compared. Genetic evaluation data included 3,819,895 records of up nine sequential weights of 963,227 animals measured at ages ranging from one day (birth weight) to 733 days. Traits considered were weights at birth, ten to 110-day old, 102 to 202-day old, 193 to 293-day old, 283 to 383-day old, 376 to 476-day old, 551 to 651-day old, and 633 to 733-day old. Seven data samples were created. Because the parameters estimates biologically were better, two of them were chosen: one with 84,426 records and another with 72,040. Records preadjusted to a fixed age were analyzed by a MTM, which included the effects of contemporary group, age of dam class, additive direct, additive maternal, and maternal permanent environment. Analyses were carried out by REML, with five traits at a time. The RRM included the effects of age of animal, contemporary group, age of dam class, additive direct, permanent environment, additive maternal, and maternal permanent environment. Different degree of Legendre polynomials were used to describe random effects. MTM estimated covariance components and genetic parameters for weight at birth and sequential weights and RRM for all ages. Due to the fact that correlation among the estimates EPD from MTM and all the tested RM were not equal to 1.0, it is not possible to recommend RRM to genetic evaluation to large data sets.

Body weight records from 90 to 450 days of age of Nellore animals from the Southeast and Center West of Brazil were used do estimate covariance structures of age dependent random effects for each region using random regression models. Covariance components of the regression coefficients were estimated by EMREML using the software REML90. The fixed effects of contemporary groups and additive genetic, additive maternal and permanent environment random effects were modeled by quadratic Legendre polynomials. The comparisons included structures of covariance and correlation of random effects, direct and maternal heritabitability and the ratio between genetic variances from different regions. The heritability, covariance and correlation structures showed similar patterns for both regions. Residual variance and permanent environment variances were smaller for Center West region as well as the maternal genetic additive from 150 to 400 days of age. Fixed effect trajectories in function of age of different contemporary groups showed different patterns, suggesting the necessity of specific set of regression coefficient estimates for each contemporary group. The maternal additive genetic variance showed higher heterogeneity between regions than the direct additive genetic variance.

Body weight records at 205 (205BW) and 365 (365BW) days of age of 46,408 Nelore animals, born from 1976 to 2000 period in 530 Nelore herds of several states of Brazil, were used to evaluate genotype by environment interactions and to estimate genetic and maternal heritability by restricted maximum likelihood methodology. The statistical model included the fixed effects of contemporary group and age of cow (covariate), and the random direct and maternal additive genetic effects. The genetic correlation for 205BW and 365BW, each one considered as different traits in each of the South (S), Southeast (SE), Central west (CO), North (N) and Northeast (NE) regions were 0.86 and 0.84, 0.64 and 0.35, 0.75 and 0.42, 0.79 and 0.86, 0.92 and 0.81, 0.95 and 0.83, 0.83 and 1.00, 0.88 and 0.81, 0.33 and 0.85, 0.63 and 0.99 for S/SE, S/CO, S/N, S/NE, SE/CO, SE/N, SE/NE, CO/N, CO/NE and N/NE, respectively. There is a significant genotype by environment interaction for 205BW in the combination involving the S/CO, S/N, S/NE, CO/NE, and N/NE regions. There are significant genotype by environment interaction effects in the combination involving the S/CO and S/N regions for 365BW. Based on genetic x environment interaction results, regional genetic evaluation is recommend for the very distinct regions.
