ACADEMIC ABSTRACT: Despite increased popular and academic interest, there is conceptual ambiguity about what allyship is and the forms it takes. Viewing allyship as a practice, we introduce the typology of allyship action which organizes the diversity of ways that advantaged individuals seek to support those who are disadvantaged. We characterize allyship actions as reactive (addressing bias when it occurs) and proactive (fostering positive outcomes such as feelings of inclusion, respect, and capacity), both of which can vary in level of analysis (i.e., targeting oneself, one or a few other individuals, or institutions). We use this framework to profile six productive yet largely independent bodies of social psychological literature on social action and directly compare relative benefits and constraints of different actions. We suggest several future directions for empirical research, using the typology of allyship to understand when, where, and how different forms of allyship might succeed. The Solimões and Acre basins are complex geological units related to the Andean uplift, covering the Northwestern region of Brazil, being one of the most important units due to their fossil diversity. In order to produce a document that integrates part of the fossil records of this region, we compiled/georeferenced localities from literature on which tetrapods are described, focusing on Solimões Formation but not restricted to this unit. We were able to recognize 208 localities, documented in over two centuries of reports of fossils from several taxonomic groups from the proto-Amazonia, 199 new entries in Paleobiology Database. We summarize, for each locality, its geographical position, geological information, age, and data of the paleodiversity. Most outcrops in the Amazonia region are located on river banks (~96%), while road cuts and other non-riverside outcrops represent the remainder (~4%). Most tetrapod are Mammalia, followed by Testudinata, and Crocodyliformes. This work reinforces the need for a more controlled and refined prospecting at the Solimões/Acre Basins, especially in the Solimões Formation, which represents the majority of fossiliferous records, to help answer old questions, such as dating, and new ones, here discussed, such as the paleodiversity patterns and temporal distribution among the mapped localities.

The Solimões Formation is a southwest geological unit of the Brazilian Amazon, being well-known for the Cenozoic giant eusuchian fossils. Among the eight species of Crocodylia described for this formation, the alligatoroid Purussaurus brasiliensis is the best known worldwide due to its enormous size. The holotype was described in 1892 by Barbosa-Rodrigues, composed by a right hemimandible. Later, two other species were assigned to the genus, but the loss of the type specimen brought a series of doubts and discussions about genus and species validity. Here, we provide a historical reconstruction of the genus Purussaurus, especially with a new description of the specimen DGM 527-R, which was first described by L. I. Price. We also provide a review of Purussaurus brasiliensis as a valid species, highlighting the importance of the paleontologist Diogenes de Almeida Campos to the preservation, study availability and divulgation of the specimen. From the six mandibular features discussed, at least two are putative synapomorphies for the genus: the false ziphodont teeth and the thinning of the medial surface of the mandible posterior to the fourteen alveoli, while the lateral surface become laterally expanded from ninth alveoli to behind. The review of the other species of the genus was aggravated due to little sampling of photos and low quality of those contributions. Finally, the curatorial efforts initiated by Price and kept for decades by Campos turned possible the revision of DGM 527-R, an important specimen for understanding the paleobiology and evolution of the genus, and, consequently P. brasiliensis. Such importance was recognized here scientifically and by Campos when considered this specimen as the center-piece of the exhibition in honor of the centenary anniversary of Price.

Archosaur osteological remains are abundant in Brazil, particularly from the Triassic and Cretaceous strata, but in Jurassic, the record is predominantly represented by ichnofossils. The Upper Jurassic archosaur records comprise the Paralligatoridae Batrachomimus pastosbonensis, from the Pastos Bons Formation (Parnaíba Basin), remains of Mesoeucrocodylia from the Aliança Formation (Jatobá Basin), and fragments of Dinosauria from the Brejo Santo Formation (Araripe Basin) with a dubious assignment. Here, we present the first undoubted Dinosauria record for the Jurassic of Brazil, MCT 2670-LE, a middle to distal caudal vertebra belonging to a theropod. MCT 2670-LE was excavated in the 60s by prof. Ignacio Machado Brito, being primarily attributed to strata of the Aliança Formation but the rock matrix involving the specimen allows us to correlate MCT 2670-LE to Sergi Formation, marking this specimen as the first archosaur record of this unit. The caudal vertebra is assigned to Carcharodontosauria based on the hourglass shaped centrum and the deep and narrow ventral groove. The specimen provides new data to the paleogeographic distribution of carcharodontosaurians before the South America-Africa break-up, as well as understanding the theropod faunal turnover of paleoenvironments during the Jurassic-Cretaceous transition in Brazil.

The mesoeucrocodylian record from the Bauru Group (Paraná Basin, Brazil) comes from three formations: Adamantina (Late Turonian-Early Maastrichtian), Presidente Prudente (Early Campanian-Early Maastrichtian) and Marília (Maastrichtian). These records are restricted to the Early Coniacian-Early Maastrichtian. Here, we report a new crocodyliform record from the Bauru Group, which was the first of the Araçatuba Formation, from a new locality of Coronel Goulart district, in Álvares Machado municipality. Coronelsuchus civali gen. nov. et sp. nov. comprises two related specimens - FFP PG 13 and FFP PG 14 recovered close to each other and on the same muddy sandstone level. We perform a phylogenetic analysis with 392 characters (five new added) and 88 taxa. Our analyses supported the new clades: Sphagesauria, Sphagesaurinae and Caipirasuchinae. Our phylogenetic results suggest C. civali as a basal Sphagesauria. Regarding the Crocodyliform Assemblage Zones (CAZ), the new species is correlated to the CAZ 1, together with small sphagesaurians, Caryonosuchus and itasuchids. The C. civali reveals an older appearing (pre-Turonian) and diversification of Sphagesauria. The specimens also expand the stratigraphic range for Notosuchia in the Bauru Group.

In this study, we asked participants to "describe their sexual orientation" in an open-ended measure of self-generated sexual orientation. The question was included as part of the New Zealand Attitudes and Values Study (N = 18,261) 2013/2014 wave, a national probability survey conducted shortly after the first legal same-sex marriages in New Zealand. We present a two-level classification scheme to address questions about the prevalence of, and demographic differences between, sexual orientations. At the most detailed level of the coding scheme, 49 unique categories were generated by participant responses. Of those who responded with the following, significantly more were women: bisexual (2.1 % of women, compared to 1.5 % of men), bicurious (0.7 % of women, 0.4 % of men), and asexual (0.4 % of women and less than 0.1 % of men). However, significantly fewer women than men reported being lesbian or gay (1.8 % of women, compared to 3.5 % of men). Those openly identifying as bicurious, bisexual, or lesbian/gay were significantly younger than those with a heterosexual orientation. This study shows diversity in the terms used in self-generated sexual orientations, and provides up-to-date gender, age, and prevalence estimates for the New Zealand population. Finally, results reveal that a substantial minority of participants may not have understood the question about sexual orientation.

People are often reluctant to speak out publicly as allies to marginalized groups. We conducted three preregistered studies examining whether pluralistic ignorance (Miller & McFarland, 1991; Prentice, 2007; Prentice & Miller, 1993) inhibits allyship. We first hypothesized that, if men rarely enact allyship toward women (e.g., in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics [STEM] fields), people will underestimate men's beliefs that sexism is problematic. Second, these misperceptions might then predict men's (and women's) own inaction, despite their private beliefs about gender bias. Additionally, men with higher masculinity concerns might be particularly inhibited from enacting allyship by their belief that other men are unconcerned with gender bias. All three studies yielded evidence that men and women underestimate men's privately expressed concerns about gender bias in STEM contexts. In correlational analyses, Studies 1 and 2 also revealed that among men high in precarious masculinity concerns, the belief that other men do not see bias as a problem predicted lower allyship intentions, controlling for their own beliefs about gender bias. Although experimentally correcting these beliefs with data changed perceptions (Studies 2 and 3), this was insufficient to increase allyship. Rather, in an ecologically valid behavioral paradigm (Study 3), allyship behavior was elevated when participants observed others confronting versus not confronting sexism. These findings suggest that perceptions of men's average beliefs inhibit allyship intentions; however, merely correcting these misperceptions might not be enough to motivate actual confrontation. We discuss the implications of these findings for a pluralistic ignorance account of allyship inhibition and for practical interventions aimed at promoting allyship. The Solimões Formation (Eocene-Pliocene) is a well-known geological unit due to the great diversity of crocodylian species. Here we describe a new species of Melanosuchus, M. latrubessei sp. nov., from the Talismã locality, state of Amazonas, from the Upper Miocene of the Solimões Formation (Solimões Basin, Brazil). A new phylogenetic inference focused on Caimaninae is provided and the different evolutionary scenarios involving this new species are discussed. In addition, quantitative morphology studies are carried out and comments regarding the paleoecology aspects of this new species are made. M. latrubessei represents a medium-sized generalist predator, being proportional to the medium-sized M. niger. This new species inhabited the drainages of the Solimões Formation and was ecologically related to other taxa of crocodylians during the proto-Amazon Miocene. The evolutionary advantages of Melanosuchus genus are discussed to better understand the biogeographical occurrence of M. niger in South America, a species which survives to this day in contrast to several other species that became extinct during the Miocene-Pliocene periods. The extinction of the Miocene-Pliocene crocodylian taxa of the Solimões Formation, including Melanosuchus latrubessei, seems to be directly related with the uplift of the northern portions of the Andes, which generated significantly changes in drainages and Amazon paleoenvironments.

The literature on crocodylian anatomy presents the transverse process in an ambiguous meaning, which could represent all lateral expansions derived from the neural arch, including vertebrae from cervical to caudal series, or in a more restrictive meaning, being applied only to lumbar vertebrae. The lateral expansion of sacral and caudal vertebrae usually referred to as the transverse process has been discovered to be fused ribs, bringing more ambiguity to this term. Therefore, with the lack of a definition for transverse process and other associated terms, the present work aims to propose a nomenclatural standardization, as well as definitions and biological meaning, for vertebral rib related structures. Vertebra obtained from museum collections from a total of 87 specimens of 22 species of all extant Crocodylia genera were studied. All vertebrae, except cervical and first three dorsal, exhibit transverse processes. The transverse process is more developed in dorsal and lumbar vertebrae than in sacral and caudal vertebrae in which it is suppressed by the fused ribs. The serial homology hypotheses here proposed can also be aplied to other Crurotarsi and saurischian dinosaurs specimens. This standardization clarifies the understand of the serial homology among those homotypes, and reduces the ambiguity and misleadings in future work comparisons.
