RESUMO

The objective of the research presented in this paper was to provide a novel open-source strain gauge system that shall enable the measurement of the pressure of a runner's feet on the ground and the presentation of the results of that measurement to the user. The system based on electronic shoe inserts with 16 built-in pressure sensors laminated in a transparent film was created, consisting of two parts: a mobile application and a wearable device. The developed system provides a number of advantages in comparison with existing solutions, including no need for calibration, an accurate and frequent measurement of pressure distribution, placement of electronics on the outside of a shoe, low cost, and an open-source approach to encourage enhancements and open collaboration.

RESUMO

E-commerce shop owners often want to attract user attention to a specific product to enhance the chances of sales, to cross-sell, or up-sell. The way of presenting a recommended item is as important as the recommendation algorithms are to gain that attention. In this study, we examined the following types of highlights: background, shadow, animation, and border, as well as the position of the item in a 5 × 2 grid in a furniture online store, and their relationships with user fixations and user interest. We wanted to verify the effects highlighting had on attracting user attention. Various levels of intensity were considered for each highlight: low, medium, and strong. Methods used for data collection were both implicit and explicit: eye tracking, tracking cart's contents, and a supplementary survey. Experimental results showed that a low-intensity background highlight should be the first-choice solution to best attract user attention in the presented shopping scenario, resulting in the best fixation times and most users' selections. However, in the case of the highest-intensity animations, highlighting seemed to have negative effects; despite successful attempts to attract eyesight and a long fixation time, users did not add the highlighted products to cart.

RESUMO

Owing to high competition in e-commerce, customers may prefer sites that ensure that good user experience (UX) and website aesthetics are one of its qualities. The method of presenting items seems crucial for gaining and maintaining user attention. We conducted a task-based user eye-tracking study with n = 30 participants to examine two variants of an online fashion store: one based on aesthetic rules and one defying them. The following aspects of item presentation were considered: height and width the ratio of product photos, website colors, rounded borders, text visibility, spacing between elements, and smooth animation. We investigated their relationship to user attention by analyzing gaze fixation, tracking user interest, and conducting a supplementary survey. Experimental results showed that owing to following the rules of aesthetics in interface design in the presented fashion shopping scenario, elements such as the recommendation area and product highlights had a significant positive impact on customer attention.

RESUMO

Recommendation systems play an important role in e-commerce turnover by presenting personalized recommendations. Due to the vast amount of marketing content online, users are less susceptible to these suggestions. In addition to the accuracy of a recommendation, its presentation, layout, and other visual aspects can improve its effectiveness. This study evaluates the visual aspects of recommender interfaces. Vertical and horizontal recommendation layouts are tested, along with different visual intensity levels of item presentation, and conclusions obtained with a number of popular machine learning methods are discussed. Results from the implicit feedback study of the effectiveness of recommending interfaces for four major e-commerce websites are presented. Two different methods of observing user behavior were used, i.e., eye-tracking and document object model (DOM) implicit event tracking in the browser, which allowed collecting a large amount of data related to user activity and physical parameters of recommending interfaces. Results have been analyzed in order to compare the reliability and applicability of both methods. Observations made with eye tracking and event tracking led to similar results regarding recommendation interface evaluation. In general, vertical interfaces showed higher effectiveness compared to horizontal ones, with the first and second positions working best, and the worse performance of horizontal interfaces probably being connected with banner blindness. Neural networks provided the best modeling results of the recommendation-driven purchase (RDP) phenomenon.

RESUMO

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the consumption of selected food products and the risk of prevalence of selected metabolic and cardiovascular disorders among nurses. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 405 nurses. To achieve the study objective, body composition analysis (Tanita MC-980), blood pressure measurement (Welch Allyn 4200B), anthropometric measurements, lipid profile, fasting blood glucose (CardioChek PA), and surveys regarding the consumption of specific food groups were conducted. Results: More than half of the respondents were overweight or/and obese, and almost 40% had elevated blood pressure levels. The results obtained from logistic regression models indicated that the consumption of specific food product groups may predispose to/increase the risk of hypertension, abdominal obesity, overweight, obesity, body fat accumulation, and the risk of cardiovascular events. Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of targeted nutritional strategies to enhance the health and professional efficacy of nursing staff, paving the way for improved healthcare practices.

RESUMO

Communication within online platforms supported by chatbots requires algorithms, language processing methods, and an effective visual representation. These are crucial elements for increasing user engagement and making communication more akin to natural conversation. Chatbots compete with other graphic elements within websites or applications, and thus attracting a user's attention is a challenge even before the actual conversation begins. A chatbot may remain unnoticed even with sophisticated techniques at play. Drawing attention to the chatbot area localized within the periphery area can be carried out with the use of various visual characteristics. The presented study analyzed the impact of changes in a chatbot's emotional expressions on user reaction. The aim of this study was to observe, based on user reaction times, whether changes in a chatbot's emotional expressions make it more noticeable. The results showed that users are more sensitive to positive emotions within chatbots, as positive facial expressions were noticed more quickly than negative ones.

RESUMO

MicroRNAs are endogenous non-coding RNAs that are involved in numerous biological processes through regulation of gene expression. The aim of our study was to determine the ability of several miRNAs to predict mortality and response to antiplatelet treatment among T2DM patients. Two hundred fifty-two patients with diabetes were enrolled in the study. Among the patients included, 26 (10.3%) patients died within a median observation time of 5.9 years. The patients were receiving either acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) 75 mg (65%), ASA 150 mg (15%) or clopidogrel (19%). Plasma miR-126, miR-223, miR-125a-3p and Let-7e expressions were assessed by quantitative real time PCR and compared between the patients who survived and those who died. Adjusted Cox-regression analysis was used for prediction of mortality. Differential miRNA expression due to different antiplatelet treatment was analyzed. After including all miRNAs into one multivariate Cox regression model, only miR-126 was predictive of future occurrence of long-term all-cause death (HR = 5.82, 95% CI: 1.3-24.9; p = 0.024). Furthermore, miR-126, Let-7e and miR-223 expressions in the clopidogrel group were significantly higher than in the ASA group (p = 0.014; p = 0.013; p = 0.028, respectively). To conclude, miR-126 expression is a strong and independent predictor of long-term all-cause mortality among patients with T2DM. Moreover, miR-223, miR-126 and Let-7e present significant interactions with antiplatelet treatment regimens and clinical outcomes.
