RESUMO

Electrokinetic-Permeable Reaction Barrier (EK-PRB) coupled remediation technology can effectively treat heavy metal-contaminated soil near coal mines. This study was conducted on cadmium (Cd), a widely present element in the soil of the mining area. To investigate the impact of the voltage gradient on the remediation effect of EK-PRB, the changes in current, power consumption, pH, and Cd concentration content during the macroscopic experiment were analyzed. A three-dimensional visualized kaolinite-heavy metal-water simulation system was constructed and combined with the Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to elucidate the migration mechanism and binding active sites of Cd on the kaolinite (001) crystalline surface at the microscopic scale. The results showed that the voltage gradient positively correlates with the current, power consumption, and Cd concentration during EK-PRB remediation, and the average removal efficiency increases non-linearly with increasing voltage gradient. Considering power consumption, average removal efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, the voltage range is between 1.5 and 3.0 V/cm, with 2.5 V/cm being the optimal value. The results of MD simulations and experiments correspond to each other. Cd2+ formed a highly stable adsorption structure in contrast to the Al-O sheet on the kaolinite (001) crystalline surface. The mean square displacement (MSD) curve of Cd2+ under the electric field exhibits anisotropy, the total diffusion coefficient DTotal increases and the Cd2+ migration rate accelerates. The electric field influences the microstructure of Cd2+ complexes. With the enhancement of the voltage gradient, the complexation between Cd2+ and water molecules is enhanced, and the interaction between Cd2+ and Cl- in solution is weakened.

Soil salinity is a significant threat to global agriculture. Understanding salt exclusion mechanisms in halophyte species may be instrumental in improving salt tolerance in crops. Puccinellia tenuiflora is a typical salt-excluding halophytic grass often found in potassium-deprived saline soils. Our previous work showed that P. tenuiflora possesses stronger selectivity for K+ than for Na+ ; however, the mechanistic basis of this phenomenon remained elusive. Here, P. tenuiflora PutHKT1;5 was cloned and the functions of PutHKT1;5 and PutSOS1 were characterized using heterologous expression systems. Yeast assays showed that PutHKT1;5 possessed Na+ transporting capacity and was highly selective for Na+ over K+ . PutSOS1 was located at the plasma membrane and operated as a Na+ /K+ exchanger, with much stronger Na+ extrusion capacity than its homolog from Arabidopsis. PutHKT2;1 mediated high-affinity K+ and Na+ uptake and its expression levels were upregulated by mild salinity and K+ deprivation. Salinity-induced changes of root PutHKT1;5 and PutHKT1;4 transcript levels matched the expression pattern of root PutSOS1, which was consistent with root Na+ efflux. The transcript levels of root PutHKT2;1 and PutAKT1 were downregulated by salinity. Taken together, these findings demonstrate that the functional activity of PutHKT1;5 and PutSOS1 in P. tenuiflora roots is fine-tuned under saline conditions as well as by operation of other ion transporters/channel (PutHKT1;4, PutHKT2;1, and PutAKT1). This leads to the coordination of radial Na+ and K+ transport processes, their loading to the xylem, or Na+ retrieval and extrusion under conditions of mild salinity and/or K+ deprivation.

PURPOSE: To explore the risk factors for cognitive impairment in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and construct a predictive model for cognitive impairment. METHODS: A total of 146 patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing MHD were recruited at our hospital between December 2021 and April 2022. Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and scores of < 26 were considered indicative of cognitive impairment. Risk factors were identified using a multivariate logistic regression model, and a receiver operating characteristic curve was applied to construct the prediction model. Cognitive impairment risk was categorized using a multifactorial prediction model based on the weight of evidence. RESULTS: 46 patients with cognitive impairment were identified, with a prevalence of 31.5% in ESRD patients undergoing MHD. Multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that the following factors were associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment in patients undergoing MHD: aged 55.0-64.0 years (OR:6.24; 95%CI:1.81-21.48; P = 0.001), aged 65.0-74.0 years (OR:16.10; 95%CI:4.03-64.37; P < 0.001), aged ≥ 75.0 years (OR:90.22; 95%CI:16.86-482.86; P < 0.001), duration of dialysis ≥ 5 years (OR:3.99; 95%CI:1.58-10.04; P = 0.003), and current smoker (OR:4.61; 95%CI:1.46-14.57; P = 0.009). The predictive value of the constructed model based on the aforementioned factors for cognitive impairment was 84% (95%CI,77-91%). The prevalence of cognitive impairment for patients at low, moderately low, moderately high, and high risk was 0% (95%CI:0-17%), 10% (95%CI:3-22%), 32% (95%CI:16-52%), and 65% (95%CI:50-78%), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This study constructed a multifactorial prediction model with a high predictive value for cognitive impairment in patients with ESRD undergoing MHD.

Alternaria rot, caused by Alternaria alternata and A. arborescens, is one of the common postharvest diseases affecting mandarin fruit in California. Fungicide resistance profilings of A. alternata and A. arborescens to quinone outside inhibitors (QoIs), fludioxonil, pyrimethanil, imazalil, and propiconazole were examined in this study. Of the 100 isolates of A. alternata and A. arborescens, 40 were identified as resistant to QoI fungicides according to a PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism based on a cytochrome b partial gene. Effective concentrations of fludioxonil that caused a 50% reduction in fungal growth relative to the control (EC50) were 0.089 ± 0.020 and 0.101 ± 0.032 µg/ml for 43 A. alternata and 19 A. arborescens isolates, respectively. EC50 values of pyrimethanil, imazalil, and propiconazole for the 70 A. alternata isolates tested were 0.373 ± 0.161, 0.492 ± 0.133, and 1.135 ± 0.407 µg/ml, respectively. EC50 values of pyrimethanil, imazalil, and propiconazole for 30 A. arborescens isolates were 0.428 ± 0.190, 0.327 ± 0.180, and 0.669 ± 0.452 µg/ml, respectively. Control tests on mandarin fruit inoculated with representative isolates of both species showed that fludioxonil, pyrimethanil, imazalil and propiconazole significantly reduced disease incidence and severity. Azoxystrobin significantly reduced Alternaria rot severity and incidence on mandarin fruit inoculated with sensitive isolates but not with resistant isolates, regardless of Alternaria spp. There were no significant differences in Alternaria rot control effectiveness if treatment with any of the fungicides tested was delayed after inoculation by 6 or 12 h. These results could help in the development of postharvest fungicide programs to control Alternaria rot on mandarin fruit during storage.

BACKGROUND: Obesity is a common public health issue and is currently deemed a disease. Research has shown that the risk of gallstones in individuals with obesity is elevated. This study aimed to explore the bile proteomics differences between cholelithiasis patients with obesity and normal body weight. METHODS: Bile samples from 20 patients (10 with obesity and 10 with normal body weight) who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy at our center were subjected to tandem mass tag labeling (TMT) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), followed by further bioinformatic analysis. RESULTS: Among the differentially-expressed proteins, 23 were upregulated and 67 were downregulated. Bioinformatic analysis indicated that these differentially-expressed proteins were mainly involved in cell development, inflammatory responses, glycerolipid metabolic processes, and protein activation cascades. In addition, the activity of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR, a subfamily of nuclear receptors) signaling pathway was decreased in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis. Two downregulated proteins in the PPAR signaling pathway, APOA-I and APOA-II, were confirmed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. CONCLUSIONS: The PPAR signaling pathway may play a crucial role in the development of cholelithiasis among patients with obesity. Furthermore, biliary proteomics profiling of gallstones patients with obesity is revealed, providing a reference for future research.

Chitin deacetylase (CDA) can accelerate the conversion of chitin to chitosan, influencing the mechanical properties and permeability of the cuticle structures and the peritrophic membrane (PM) in insects. Putative Group V CDAs SeCDA6/7/8/9 (SeCDAs) were identified and characterized from beet armyworm Spodoptera exigua larvae. The cDNAs of SeCDAs contained open reading frames of 1164 bp, 1137 bp, 1158 bp and 1152 bp, respectively. The deduced protein sequences showed that SeCDAs are synthesized as preproteins of 387, 378, 385 and 383 amino acid residues, respectively. It was revealed via spatiotemporal expression analysis that SeCDAs were more abundant in the anterior region of the midgut. The SeCDAs were down-regulated after treatment with 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E). After treatment with a juvenile hormone analog (JHA), the expression of SeCDA6 and SeCDA8 was down-regulated; in contrast, the expression of SeCDA7 and SeCDA9 was up-regulated. After silencing SeCDAV (the conserved sequences of Group V CDAs) via RNA interference (RNAi), the layer of intestinal wall cells in the midgut became more compact and more evenly distributed. The vesicles in the midgut were small and more fragmented or disappeared after SeCDAs were silenced. Additionally, the PM structure was scarce, and the chitin microfilament structure was loose and chaotic. It was indicated in all of the above results that Group V CDAs are essential for the growth and structuring of the intestinal wall cell layer in the midgut of S. exigua. Additionally, the midgut tissue and the PM structure and composition were affected by Group V CDAs.

To explore the research hotspots and frontier directions of pyroptosis in the field of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), the authors searched CNKI and Web of Science for literature related to pyroptosis in TCM, screened literature according to the search strategy and inclusion criteria, and analyzed the publication trend of the included literature. VOSviewer was used to draw author cooperation and keyword co-occurrence network diagrams, and CiteSpace was employed for keyword clustering, emergence, and timeline view. Finally, 507 Chinese literature and 464 English literature were included, and it was found that the number of Chinese and English literature was increasing rapidly year by year. The co-occurrence of the authors showed that in terms of Chinese literature, there was a representative research team composed of DU Guan-hua, WANG Shou-bao and FANG Lian-hua, and for English literature, the representative research team was composed of XIAO Xiao-he, BAI Zhao-fang and XU Guang. The network visualization of Chinese and English keywords revealed that inflammation, apoptosis, oxidative stress, autophagy, organ damage, fibrosis, atherosclerosis, and ischemia-reperfusion injury were the primary research diseases and pathological processes in TCM; berberine, resveratrol, puerarin, na-ringenin, astragaloside Ⅳ, and baicalin were the representative active ingredients; NLRP3/caspase-1/GSDMD, TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3, and p38/MAPK signaling pathways were the main research pathways. Keyword clustering, emergence, and timeline analysis indicated that the pyroptosis research in TCM focused on the mechanism of TCM monomers and compounds intervening in diseases and pathological processes. Pyroptosis is a research hotspot in the area of TCM, and the current discussion mainly focuses on the mechanism of the therapeutic effect of TCM.

OBJECTIVES: To study the efficacy of different drug treatment regimens in children with streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS). METHODS: Clinical data of children diagnosed with STSS confirmed by bacterial culture and treated in Hunan Children's Hospital and Chenzhou First People's Hospital from January 2009 to April 2023 were retrospectively collected. The efficacy of different drug treatment regimens was analyzed. The children were divided into four groups based on the treatment regimens: standard group (regimens containing penicillin), Group A (carbapenem + glycopeptides/linezolid), Group B (carbapenems, broad-spectrum antibiotics, glycopeptides/linezolid used alone or in combination, excluding the regimens in Group A), and Group C (macrolides/not receiving antimicrobial drugs). RESULTS: A total of 32 cases of STSS were included. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed that all strains were sensitive to beta-lactam antibiotics such as ampicillin and vancomycin, while resistant to clindamycin, erythromycin, and tetracycline. There was a statistically significant difference in the efficacy rate among the four groups (P<0.05). The standard group exhibited the highest efficacy rate (100%), while the efficacy rates for Group A, Group B, and Group C were 40%, 40%, and 0%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The use of antimicrobial regimens containing penicillin can improve the therapeutic efficacy of STSS in children.

A new biflavonoid, (2''S)-6''-methyl-2'',3''-dihydroochnaflavone (1), along with two known ochnaflavones (2, 3), four known amentoflavones (4-7) and two known robustaflavones (8, 9) were obtained from the 70% EtOH extract of Selaginella trichoclada. The chemical structures of isolated compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses. Overall, compounds 1-9 displayed moderate cytotoxic effects against human breast cancer MCF-7 cell lines. Among them, compounds 2 and 8 exhibited relatively strong cytotoxic effects against MCF-7 cells with an IC50 value of 7.7 and 6.9 µΜ, respectively. The results of RNA-sequencing and KEGG functional enrichment analysis showed that 8 could induce ferroptosis in MCF-7 cells by down-regulating the expression of ferroptosis-related genes including ACSL4, NOXO1, NOXA1, ACSL5, STEAP3, LPCAT3, ATG7 and TP53. Then 8 could inhibit the expression of ACSL4 proteins through molecule docking analysis, which showed a strong interaction of - 11.89 Kcal/mol binding energy. Those results indicate that 8 could be chemotherapy agents to fight drug resistance in breast cancer by down-regulating the expression level of ACSL4 proteins via ferroptosis, which needs to be further certified in vitro.

As a preferred nitrogen form, ammonium (NH4 + ) transport via specific transporters is particularly important for the growth and development of tea plants (Camellia sinensis L.). However, our understanding of the functions of the AMT family in tea plants is limited. We identified and named 16 putative AMT genes according to phylogenetic analysis. All CsAMT genes were divided into three groups, distributed on 12 chromosomes with only one segmental duplication repetition. The CsAMT genes showed different expression levels in different organs, and most of them were expressed mainly in the apical buds and roots. Complementation analysis of yeast mutants showed that CsAMTs restored the uptake of NH4 + . This study provides insights into the genome-wide distribution and spatial expression of AMT genes in tea plants.

Botrytis is an important genus of plant pathogens causing pre- and postharvest disease on diverse crops worldwide. This study evaluated Botrytis isolates collected from strawberry, blueberry, and table grape berries in California. Isolates were evaluated for resistance to eight different fungicides, and 60 amplicon markers were sequenced (neutral, species identification, and fungicide resistance associated) distributed across 15 of the 18 B. cinerea chromosomes. Fungicide resistance was common among the populations, with resistance to pyraclostrobin and boscalid being most frequent. Isolates from blueberry had resistance to the least number of fungicides, whereas isolates from strawberry had resistance to the highest number. Host and fungicide resistance-specific population structure explained 12 and 7 to 26%, respectively, of the population variability observed. Fungicide resistance was the major driver for population structure, with select fungicides explaining up to 26% and multiple fungicide resistance explaining 17% of the variability observed. Shared and unique significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with host and fungicide (fluopyram, thiabendazole, pyraclostrobin, and fenhexamid) resistance-associated population structures were identified. Although overlap between host and fungicide resistance SNPs were detected, unique SNPs suggest that both host and fungicide resistance play an important role in Botrytis population structure.

As one kind of aggressive cancer, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has become one of the major causes of women mortality worldwide. Recently, combinational chemo-PDT therapy based on nanomaterials has been adopted for the treatment of malignant tumor. However, the efficacy of PDT was partly compromised under tumor hypoxia environment due to the lack of sustainable O2 supply. In this study, CeO2-loaded nanoparticles (CeNPs) with peroxidase activity were synthesized to autonomously generate O2 by decomposing H2O2 within tumor region and reprogramming the hypoxia microenvironment as well. Meanwhile, the compound cinobufagin (CS-1) was loaded for inhibiting TNBC growth and metastasis. Moreover, the hybrid membrane camouflage was adopted to improve the biocompatibility and targeting ability of nanocomplexes. In vitro assay demonstrated that decomposition of H2O2 by CeO2 achieved sustainable O2 supply, which accordingly improved the efficacy of PDT. In turn, the generated O2 improved the cytotoxicity and anti-tumor migration effect of CS-1 by downregulating HIF-1α and MMP-9 levels. In vivo assay demonstrated that the combination of CS-1 and PDT significantly inhibited the growth and distance metastasis of tumor in MDA-MB-231 bearing mice. Thus, this chemo-PDT strategy achieved satisfactory therapeutic effects by smartly utilizing the enzyme activity of nanodrugs and special micro-environment of tumor.

BACKGROUND: This article discusses the management of an adolescent woman with a delayed diagnosis of adnexal torsion (AT) whose ovaries were successfully preserved. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 14-year-old female teen admitted with the chief complaint of lower abdominal pain for 3 days and worsening pain for 2 days. Magnetic resonance imaging suggested a high possibility of torsion in the anterosuperior uterine mass and was accompanied by severe ovarian edema, bleeding, and enlargement. Intraoperatively, the left fallopian tube was characterized by thickening and torsion and appeared blackish purple. The left fallopian tube paraovarian cyst was about 20 cm in size, and the left adnexa was twisted 1080° along the left infundibulopelvic ligament (suspensory ligament of the left ovary). The left ovary appeared blackish purple, with an enlarged diameter of about 10 cm. At the request and with the informed consent of the patient's parents, we preserved the left ovary and removed the left fallopian tube. The results of the endocrine, ultrasound, and tumor marker tests were normal 1 month after surgery. Follicles and blood flow signals seen in ultrasound examinations indirectly proved the successful preservation of the left ovary in the follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Our attempt to preserve the ovaries in an adolescent with a delayed diagnosis of AT was successful.

BACKGROUND: As an important alternative to bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol AF (BPAF) is widely used and can be detected in multiple human biological samples. However, there are few studies on neurotoxicity of BPAF at present. In particular, no epidemiological studies have investigated BPAF in relation to depressive symptoms in adolescents. Here, our study aimed to evaluate the associations between serum BPAF concentrations and depressive symptoms in adolescents. METHODS: A nested case-control study within an ongoing longitudinal prospective adolescent cohort that was established in Huaibei, China was conducted. A total of 175 participants who had new-onset depressive symptoms (cases) and 175 participants without depressive symptoms (controls) were included. Serum BPAF concentrations was measured using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The associations between BPAF exposure and the risk of depressive symptoms in adolescents were assessed using conditional logistic regression. The dose-response relationship between BPAF level and depressive symptoms was estimated using restricted cubic spline analyses. RESULTS: In this study, the detection rate of serum BPAF was 100%, and the median (interquartile range, IQR) serum BPAF concentration was 5.24 (4.41-6.11) pg/mL in the case group and 4.86 (4.02-5.77) pg/mL in the control group (P = 0.009). Serum BPAF exposure was a risk factor for depressive symptoms (odds ratio (OR)= 1.132, 95% confidence interval (CI):1.013-1.264). After adjustment for all for confounders, compared with the low-exposure group, the high-exposure group had a 2.806-fold increased risk of depressive symptoms (OR=2.806, 95% CI: 1.188-6.626). Stratified analysis by sex revealed that males were more vulnerable to BPAF exposure than females. After adjustment for all confounders, compared with the low-exposure group, the relative risk of depressive symptoms in the high-exposure group was 3.858 (95% CI: 1.118-12.535) for males, however, no significant association between BPAF exposure and depressive symptoms was found in females. In addition, there was a marked linear association between BPAF exposure and the risk of depressive symptoms in the total population and in males. CONCLUSIONS: The adolescents in this study were widely exposed to low levels of BPAF. A significant positive association was found between serum BPAF levels and the risk of depressive symptoms. The association was significantly modified by sex, and males were more vulnerable to BPAF exposure than females.

Alternaria rot caused by Alternaria alternata is one of the major postharvest diseases affecting blueberries in California. The sensitivity profiles of A. alternata from blueberry field to quinone outside inhibitors (QoIs), boscalid, fluopyram, fludioxonil, cyprodinil, and polyoxin D in California were examined in this study. EC50 values of 51 A. alternata isolates for boscalid varied greatly among the isolates, ranging from 0.265 to >100 µg/ml. EC50 values of 51 A. alternata isolates to fluopyram, fludioxonil, cyprodinil, and polyoxin D were 5.188 ± 7.118, 0.078 ± 0.021, 0.465 ± 0.302, and 6.238 ± 7.352 µg/ml, respectively. In total, 143 isolates were screened for resistance at 5 and 10 µg/ml for fludioxonil, cyprodinil, and fluopyram, 10 µg/ml for polyoxin D, and 10 and 50 µg/ml for boscalid. Based on the published discriminatory concentrations for phenotyping resistance, of the 143 isolates, all were considered resistant to boscalid; 32, 69, and 42 were sensitive, low resistant, and resistant to fluopyram, respectively; and all were sensitive to fludioxonil and cyprodinil. In a PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism method for phenotyping, 60 out of the 143 isolates were classified as resistant to QoIs. Control tests on detached blueberry fruit inoculated with different Alternaria isolates showed that fludioxonil and cyprodinil significantly reduced disease incidence and severity; however, pyraclostrobin, boscalid, fluopyram, and polyoxin D significantly reduced only disease severity. The obtained results will be helpful in making decisions on fungicide programs to control A. alternata isolates with resistance or reduced sensitivities to multiple fungicides.

The long-term survival rate of cancer patients has been increasing as a result of advances in treatments and precise medical management. The evidence has accumulated that the incidence and mortality of non-cancer diseases have increased along with the increase in survival time and long-term survival rate of cancer patients after radiotherapy. The risk of cardiovascular disease as a radiation late effect of tissue damage reactions is becoming a critical challenge and attracts great concern. Epidemiological research and clinical trials have clearly shown the close association between the development of cardiovascular disease in long-term cancer survivors and radiation exposure. Experimental biological data also strongly supports the above statement. Cardiovascular diseases can occur decades post-irradiation, and from initiation and development to illness, there is a complicated process, including direct and indirect damage of endothelial cells by radiation, acute vasculitis with neutrophil invasion, endothelial dysfunction, altered permeability, tissue reactions, capillary-like network loss, and activation of coagulator mechanisms, fibrosis, and atherosclerosis. We summarize the most recent literature on the tissue reactions and mechanisms that contribute to the development of radiation-induced cardiovascular diseases (RICVD) and provide biological knowledge for building preventative strategies.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is one of the most promising additive manufacturing technologies for fabricating various biomimetic architectures of tissues and organs. In this context, the bioink, a critical element for biofabrication, is a mixture of biomaterials and living cells used in 3D printing to create cell-laden structures. Recently, decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM)-based bioinks derived from natural tissues have garnered enormous attention from researchers due to their unique and complex biochemical properties. This review initially presents the details of the natural ECM and its role in cell growth and metabolism. Further, we briefly emphasize the commonly used decellularization treatment procedures and subsequent evaluations for the quality control of the dECM. In addition, we summarize some of the common bioink preparation strategies, the 3D bioprinting approaches, and the applicability of 3D-printed dECM bioinks to tissue engineering. Finally, we present some of the challenges in this field and the prospects for future development.

In this study, evidence mapping was employed to sort out and summarise the evidence from clinical studies of Chinese patent medicines for hypertension and to understand the evidence distribution in related studies. Chinese patent medicines for hypertension were searched from Medicine Catalogue for National Basic Medical Insurance, Employment Injury Insurance, and Maternity Insu-rance(2021) and Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2020). Relevant articles(published from January 1, 2016 to February 14, 2022) were retrieved from Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and SinoMed. Then, the evidence distribution was analysed based on description, tables, and bubble charts. A total of 31 Chinese patent medicines were identified and 20 were finally included, involving 111 articles. The basic information of the 20 Chinese patent medicines, the number of related articles, the hypertension staging and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome types of the subjects, sample size, interventions, and outcome indicators were compared. The results showed Chinese patent medicines with the function of pacifying liver and eliminating wind were frequently studied, and most of them were single-center, small-sample, short-period randomized controlled trials. They failed to highlight the key and advantages of TCM. A wide variety of outcome indicators were involved, and in addition to blood pressure, surrogate outcome indicators and composite outcome indicators were emphasized. However, health economic indicators, quality of life, and damage to target organs such as blood vessels and heart, were rarely used.

Hsa_circ_001988 has been identified as a tumor suppressor gene in several carcinomas. However, its expression pattern and role in gastric cancer (GC) have still remained elusive. This study aimed to explore the functions of hsa_circ_001988 in GC. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction assay was performed to assess the expressions of hsa_circ_001988, miR-197-3p, FBXW7, CCDC6, and U2AF65 in GC tissues. The correlation analysis was undertaken to find out the relationship between hsa_circ_001988 expression and clinicopathological factors. A series of cellular experiments were carried out to describe the effects of hsa_circ_001988 on GC in vivo and in vitro. Besides, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay was performed to verify the relationship among EIF4A3, U2AF65, and hsa_circ_001988. We first found that the expression of hsa_circ_001988 was decreased in 341 GC patients that was related to World Health Organization histological types, Lauren types, and tumor invasion depth (p < .05). Silencing of hsa_circ_001988 facilitated proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of GC cells, while overexpression of hsa_circ_001988 reversed the effect on GC progression in vitro. Additionally, the results of subcutaneous xenotransplanted tumor model demonstrated that overexpressing hsa_circ_001988 significantly suppressed the subcutaneous tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, hsa_circ_001988 attenuated the miR-197-3p expression possibly due to its molecular sponge effect, and then, positively promoted FBXW7 expression. Afterwards, FBXW7 regulated the expressions of yes-associated protein 1, cyclinD1, CCDC6, and EMT-related proteins. Notably, RIP assay showed the enrichment relationship among EIF4A3, U2AF65, and hsa_circ_001988. Additionally, EIF4A3 or U2AF65 promoted cyclization of hsa_circ_001988 in GC. Hsa_circ_001988 inhibits the proliferation and metastasis of GC via modulating EIF4A3/U2AF65-mediated hsa_circ_001988/miR-197-3p/FBXW7 axis.

A new three-dimensional lanthanide metal-organic framework (Ln-MOF), [Eu4(L)4(H2O)8]·10H2O (1, H3L = biphenyl-3'-nitro-3,4',5-tricarboxylic acid), has been constructed via solvothermal technology and its framework has been detected by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction and elemental analyses. Complex 1 with typical emission of Eu3+ ion represents dramatic luminescence quenching affect for picric acid (PA) and the linear Stern-Volmer plot was surveyed in the consistence, ranging from 0.05 to 0.15 mM (Ksv = 98,074 M- 1). Its therapeutic effect of the compound on the cerebral edema caused by cerebral hemorrhage was estimated and the mechanism was explored. Possible binding interactions have been investigated by molecular docking simulations, from which the binding interactions are identified and the carboxyl oxygens are responsible for those identified interactions.
