RESUMO

Water and energy are both essential for methanol production. This study focuses on the two processes of coal to methanol and biomass to methanol, and analyzes the water footprint of the methanol production process in the life cycle. The results indicate that the water footprint of biomass to methanol is 1707.54 L/MJ, and the dominant factor was the water consumption in the growth stage of biomass, accounting for over 95 % of the total water consumption. The water footprint of the coal to methanol process is 161.40 L/MJ. The main contributor to this process was the methanol stage, which accounted for 99.75 % of the total water footprint. However, the water consumption of the biomass to the methanol stage accounted for only 51.6 % of that of the coal to methanol stage. Based on the power situation of 30 provinces, the indirect water consumption caused by power generation in different regions was calculated, resulting in greater changes in the total water footprint of the biomass to methanol process. Through a sensitivity analysis, the effects of 24 influencing factors and main inputs on the total water consumption were investigated. This study provides the relevant water consumption of the two methanol production processes within the standard range, and the results emphasize the importance of biomass utilization and water conservation.

RESUMO

Background: While the association between physical activity (PA) and depression has been established, there is limited research on the effect of PA on the risk of depression among Chinese individuals. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between PA and depression among Chinese individuals. Methods: We used a stratified random sampling approach to recruit participants from five urban districts in Wuhan, China. A total of 5,583 permanent residents aged 18 years or older completed questionnaires, which included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF) to measure PA, and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) to evaluate depressive symptoms. To control for potential confounders, multiple logistic regression was employed to assess the association of PA with depression. Results: The depression group had significantly lower weekly PA levels, measured in metabolic equivalent of task-minutes per week (MET-min/w), compared to the non-depression group [1,770 (693-4,200) MET-min/w vs. 2,772 (1,324-4,893) MET-min/w, p < 0.001]. In the fully adjusted model, the moderate and high PA level groups had lower odds ratios (ORs) for depressive symptoms compared to the low PA level group [OR (95% confidence interval (CI)) = 0.670 (0.523-0.858), 0.618 (0.484-0.790), respectively]. Among males, moderate and high levels of PA were associated with lower risk of depression compared to low PA levels [OR (95% CI) = 0.417 (0.268-0.649), 0.381 (0.244-0.593), respectively]. However, this association was not observed in females [OR (95% CI) = 0.827 (0.610-1.121), 0.782 (0.579-1.056), respectively]. The study found a significant interaction between PA levels and gender in relation to depression (P for interaction = 0.019). Conclusion: The findings suggest a negative association between PA and risk of depressive symptoms, indicating that moderate to high levels of PA may serve as a protective factor against depressive symptoms.

RESUMO

Utilization of renewable energy has become a current energy development trend. In this study, the water footprints of a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) and a compressed natural gas vehicle (CNG) under different fuel scenarios were evaluated. The FCEV exhibits a low water footprint of 27.2 L/100 km under steam methane reforming hydrogen production technology. Hydrogen production using steam methane reforming and water electrolysis via wind can enable the FCEV industry to save more water resources. The percentage difference between different metallic materials in automobiles was analyzed. The water consumption by steel accounted for 73.6% and 80.5%, respectively. The fluctuation law of the water footprint was analyzed based on different power structures and steel water consumption coefficients. It was found that for low steel water consumption coefficient, wind power generation is conducive to slowing down the water consumption during the entire life cycle. In addition, a sensitivity analysis was performed for the FCEV and CNG under different fuel scenarios. Fuel technology and material structure have a significant impact on the total water footprint. The results of this study can provide guidance for the layout of the automobile industry and for water-saving measures in the future.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To determine sexual function in 612 male addicts with methadone maintenance therapy (MMT), analyze its cause and explore the treatment strategies. METHODS: Self-made questionnaire and International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) were used in 612 male addicts receiving MMT. RESULTS: The number of addicts who felt worse sexual function was significantly more than those who felt better sexual function (P<0.01). About 88.6% addicts were dissatisfied with their current sexual function, 90.7% of whom were willing to continuously receive MMT. The number of addicts suffering from hyposexuality and erectile dysfunction (ED) was significantly increased at post-MMT than at pre-MMT (P<0.01), while the number of addicts with normal sexuality and inhibitive ejaculation decreased significantly (P<0.01). Both the dose of methadone and the age of subjects were negatively correlated with IIEF-5 scores. Correlation between the duration of MMT and IIEF-5 scores was not found. CONCLUSION: MMT might deteriorate sexual function in male addicts. To improve the compliance of MMT and sexual function in male addicts, the dose of methadone should be adjusted to minimally effective one.

RESUMO

Background: To test paliperidone extended-release (ER) for efficacy in decreasing methamphetamine (METH) use and reducing psychotic symptoms in METH-dependent patients after detoxification. Rates of adverse events with paliperidone ER versus placebo were also compared. Methods: After discharge and 7 days without medication, 80 treatment-seeking METH-dependent participants were randomly assigned to paliperidone ER (3 mg once daily; n = 40) or placebo (once daily; n = 40) for 84 days under double-blind conditions. The participants attended clinics weekly to provide urine samples that were analyzed for METH metabolites, to complete research assessments, and to receive substance use and medication counseling. Results: Fifty-six percent of follow-up visits and final visits were completed. The placebo group had a significantly lower retention [51.5 days; 95% confidence interval (CI), 41.6-61.4] than the paliperidone ER group (69.4 days,; 95% CI, 61.9-76.9; p = 0.016). Paliperidone ER was a protective factor against psychotic symptom relapse [hazard ratio (HR) = 0.15, p = 0.003]. Moreover, there were statistically significant effects of paliperidone ER on psychosis severity and METH craving, assessed by mean changes in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total scores, Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) scores, and METH craving scores over time (p = 0.006, p = 0.002, and p = 0.03 for the medication-by-time interaction effect, respectively). There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in METH use. There were no serious adverse events related to the study drug. Conclusion: Compared with placebo, paliperidone ER administration resulted in a better retention rate and lower psychotic symptom relapse, but we did not find significantly reduced METH use among adults after acute METH detoxification treatment.

RESUMO

We evaluated tolerability and efficacy of aripiprazole and risperidone for treatment of methamphetamine (METH) associated psychotic symptoms in China. Patients with acute METH-associated psychotic symptoms (N=42) and with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total score between 60 and 120 were randomized to aripiprazole (initial dose 5-10mg per day followed by flexible doses 5-15 mg per day) or risperidone (initial dose 2-4 mg per day followed by flexible doses 4-6 mg per day) from day 3 to 25 of inpatient hospital stay. Outcome measures included PANSS and Clinical Global Impressions-Severity of Illness scale (CGI-S), METH craving Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Simpson Angus Scale (SAS), Barnes Assessments Akathasia Rating Scale (BARS), and self-reported adverse effects evaluated during treatment. Retention was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and the MIXED models procedure was used to compare the groups on measures of psychotic and extra-pyramidal symptoms. Patients in both aripiprazole and risperidone groups showed statistically significant reductions in psychotic symptomatology from baseline during treatment (p<0.001) with no statistically significant differences between the treatment groups (p=0.73 and p=0.15, respectively). Risperidone-treated patients reported significantly greater METH craving reductions (p<0.001). Overall, 71% of patients completed the entire study, but the aripiprazole group had a significantly lower retention than the risperidone group (p=0.007), primarily due to medication related adverse effects. Aripiprazole-treated patients also had significantly more akathisia (p=0.03) and agitation (p=0.02) than risperidone-treated patients. Patients in both groups who tolerated their medications and completed the entire study achieved comparable reductions of psychotic symptoms.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Amphetamine type stimulants (ATS) and ketamine have emerged as major drug problems in China, and chronic extensive exposure to these substances frequently co-occurs with psychiatric symptoms. This study compares the psychiatric symptoms of patients reporting ATS use only, ATS and ketamine use, or ketamine use only who were admitted to an inpatient psychiatry ward in Wuhan, China between 2010 and 2011. Data on 375 study participants collected during their ward admission and extracted from their clinical records included their socio-demographics, scores on the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), and urine toxicology screens. RESULTS: The ketamine-only group had significantly lower total BPRS scores and significantly lower scores on Thinking Disorder, Activity, and Hostility-Suspicion BPRS subscales than the ATS-only and ATS + ketamine groups (p < 0.001 for all comparisons). The ketamine-only group also had significantly higher scores on the subscales of Anxiety-Depression and Anergia. The ATS-only group had significantly higher scores on subscales of Thinking Disorder, Activity, and Hostility-Suspicion and significantly lower scores on Anxiety-Depression and Anergia subscales than the ketamine-only and ATS + ketamine groups (p < 0.001 for all comparisons). A K-means cluster method identified three distinct clusters of patients based on the similarities of their BPRS subscale profiles, and the identified clusters differed markedly on the proportions of participants reporting different primary drugs of abuse. The study findings suggest that ketamine and ATS users present with different profiles of psychiatric symptoms at admission to inpatient treatment.
