RESUMO

Leymus chinensis (Trin.) Tzvel., also known as the "Alkali Grass", is a major forage grass in the eastern and northeastern steppe vegetation in the Songnen Prairie. It is of great practical significance for grassland management to understand the influence of animal saliva on L. chinensis during animal feeding. In this study, we used clipping and daubing animal saliva to simulate responses to grazing by L. chinensis, and analyzed the physiological and metabolomic changes in response to simulated animal feeding. Results showed that the effects of animal saliva on physiological and metabolic processes of the treated plants produced a recovery phenomenon. Moreover, the effects of animal saliva produced a large number of differential metabolites related to several known metabolic pathways, among which the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway has undergone significant and persistent changes. We posit that the potential metabolic mechanisms of L. chinensis in response to simulated animal feeding are closely related to flavonoid biosynthesis.

RESUMO

Tussah silk is one of the most widely used wild silks. It is usually dyed with acid dyes, despite the shortcoming of poor wet fastness. Reactive dyeing is a good solution to this problem. In our work, sulfatoethylsulfone (SES), sulfatoethylsulfone/monochlorotriazine (SES/MCT), monochlorotriazine (MCT), and bis(monochlorotriazine) (Bis(MCT)) dyes were used to dye tussah silk. All of these dyes showed lower exhaustion and fixation on tussah silk than on mulberry silk under alkaline conditions. Among them, SES dyes were more applicable, with a fixation of 70-85% (at 4%owf dye) at 90 °C when using sodium bicarbonate as an alkali. SES dyes also showed a rapid fixation speed. The dyeing of tussah silk required lower sodium bicarbonate dosage, the use of more neutral electrolytes, and a higher dye quantity to achieve deep effects compared to mulberry silk. Dyed tussah silk displayed lower apparent color depth and brilliance than dyed mulberry silk. The neutral boiling dyeing of tussah silk with SES dyes exhibited higher exhaustion, higher fixation (82-92% at 4%owf dye), and a slower fixation speed compared with alkaline dyeing. Furthermore, in this dyeing method, SES dyes showed higher and more efficient fixation on tussah silk than on mulberry silk. All dyed tussah silk had excellent color fastness to soaping.

RESUMO

We proposed a numerical and accurate quadratic phase aberration compensation method in digital holography. A phase imitation method based on Gaussian 1σ-criterion is used to obtain the morphological features of the object phase using partial differential, filtering and integration successively. We also propose an adaptive compensation method based on a maximum-minimum-average- α-standard deviation (MMAαSD) evaluation metric to obtain optimal compensated coefficients by minimizing the above metric of the compensation function. The effectiveness and robustness of our method are demonstrated by simulation and experiments.

RESUMO

Learning-based computer-generated holography (CGH) has demonstrated great potential in enabling real-time, high-quality holographic displays. However, most existing learning-based algorithms still struggle to produce high-quality holograms, due to the difficulty of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in learning cross-domain tasks. Here, we present a diffraction model-driven neural network (Res-Holo) using hybrid domain loss for phase-only hologram (POH) generation. Res-Holo utilizes the weights of the pretrained ResNet34 as the initialization during the encoder stage of the initial phase prediction network to extract more generic features and also to help prevent overfitting. Also, frequency domain loss is added to further constrain the information that the spatial domain loss is insensitive. The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed image is improved by 6.05 dB using hybrid domain loss compared to using spatial domain loss alone. Simulation results show that the proposed Res-Holo can generate high-fidelity 2 K resolution POHs with an average PSNR of 32.88 dB at 0.014 seconds/frame on the DIV2K validation set. Both monochrome and full-color optical experiments show that the proposed method can effectively improve the quality of reproduced images and suppress image artifacts.

RESUMO

A system and method for non-destructive detection of cracks of different width and depths based on digital speckle interferometry coupled with pulsed laser excitation is introduced and tested. Based on photoacoustic effect, acoustic waves are induced onto the rear of the samples by pumping a pulsed laser beam on it. The generated mechanical wave propagates from the rear surface of the sample to the front while front surface is monitored by speckle interferometry. In order to acquire information about surface deformation, the front surface is illuminated by continuous wave laser and interference are imaged onto the camera as speckle images. After processing the produced fringe patterns, it indicates the presence and location of the cracks in qualitative way. In this study, the system and method mentioned above are validated by detecting medium density fiberboard with simulated cracks. The fringe patterns from areas with or without defects are compared and discussed. Besides, the system and method to distinguish and predict cracks sizes is proposed and validated.

RESUMO

We propose a numerical and automatic quadratic phase aberration elimination method in digital holography for phase-contrast imaging. A histogram segmentation method based on Gaussian 1σ-criterion is used to obtain the accurate coefficients of quadratic aberrations using the weighted least-squares algorithm. This method needs no manual intervention for specimen-free zone or prior parameters of optical components. We also propose a maximum-minimum-average-standard deviation (MMASD) metric to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of quadratic aberration elimination. Simulation and experimental results are demonstrated to verify the efficacy of our proposed method over the traditional least-squares algorithm.

RESUMO

To extend the axial depth of nanoscale 3D-localization microscopy, we propose here a splicing-type vortex singularities (SVS) phase mask, which has been meticulously optimized with a Fresnel approximation imaging inverse operation. The optimized SVS DH-PSF has proven to have high transfer function efficiency with adjustable performance in its axial range. The axial position of the particle was computed by using both the main lobes' spacing and the rotation angle, an improvement of the localization precision of the particle. Concretely, the proposed optimized SVS DH-PSF, with a smaller spatial extent, can effectively reduce the overlap of nanoparticle images and realize the 3D localization of multiple nanoparticles with small spacing, with respect to PSFs for large axial 3D localization. Finally, we successfully conducted extensive experiments on 3D localization for tracking dense nanoparticles at 8µm depth with a numerical aperture of 1.4, demonstrating its great potential.

RESUMO

Holography represents an enabling technology for next-generation virtual and augmented reality systems. However, it remains challenging to achieve both wide field of view and large eyebox at the same time for holographic near-eye displays, mainly due to the essential étendue limitation of existing hardware. In this work, we present an approach to expanding the eyebox for holographic displays without compromising their underlying field of view. This is achieved by utilizing a compact 2D steering mirror to deliver angular-steering illumination beams onto the spatial light modulator in alignment with the viewer's eye movements. To facilitate the same image for the virtual objects perceived by the viewer when the eye moves, we explore an off-axis computational hologram generation scheme. Two bench-top holographic near-eye display prototypes with the proposed angular-steering scheme are developed, and they successfully showcase an expanded eyebox up to 8 mm × 8 mm for both VR- and AR-modes, as well as the capability of representing multi-depth holographic images.

RESUMO

Existing computational holographic displays often suffer from limited reconstruction image quality mainly due to ill-conditioned optics hardware and hologram generation software. In this Letter, we develop an end-to-end hardware-in-the-loop approach toward high-quality hologram generation for holographic displays. Unlike other hologram generation methods using ideal wave propagation, ours can reduce artifacts introduced by both the light propagation model and the hardware setup, in particular non-uniform illumination. Experimental results reveal that, compared with classical computer-generated hologram algorithm counterparts, better quality of holographic images can be delivered without a strict requirement on both the fine assembly of optical components and the good uniformity of laser sources.

RESUMO

The development of high-efficient and large-scale non-precious electrocatalysts to improve sluggish reaction kinetics plays a key role in enhancing electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) for ammonia production under mild condition. Herein, Fe3 O4 and Fe supported by porous carbon (denoted as Fe/Fe3 O4 /PC-800) composite with a high specific surface area of 1004.1 m2 g-1 was prepared via a simple template method. On one hand, the high surface area of Fe/Fe3 O4 /PC-800 provides a large area to enhance N2 adsorption and promote more protons and electrons to accelerate the reaction, thereby greatly improving the dynamics. On the other hand, mesoporous Fe/Fe3 O4 /PC-800 provides high electrochemically active surface area for promoting the occurrence of catalytic kinetics. As a result, Fe/Fe3 O4 /PC-800 exhibited significantly enhanced NRR performance with an ammonia yield of 31.15 µg h-1 mg-1 cat. and faraday efficiency of 22.26 % at -0.1 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE). This study is expected to provide a new strategy for the synthesis of catalysts with large specific area and pave the way for the foundational research in NRR.

RESUMO

Ferroptosis has been implicated in the pathophysiological progression of a variety of diseases. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key regulator of cellular antioxidant response and can counteract ferroptosis by inducing autophagy and targeting genes involved in iron metabolism and glutathione (GSH) synthesis/metabolism. This study investigated how Nrf2 and autophagy interact to prevent ferroptosis in acute liver injury under sulforaphane (SFN) intervention. The results showed that SFN could activate Nrf2 signaling pathway and its downstream target genes, promote cell autophagy, and then combat ferroptosis to alleviate liver injury. After inhibiting Nrf2, the autophagy activated by SFN almost disappeared, and the anti-ferroptosis effect was greatly weakened. After inhibiting autophagy, SFN can still activate Nrf2 and its downstream target gene, but solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) membrane transfer and its cystine transport ability are significantly weakened, thus ultimately attenuating the anti-ferroptosis effect of SFN. Further studies showed that Nrf2-dependent autophagy activation disrupted SLC7A11 binding to S93-phosphorylated coiled-coil myosin-like BCL2-interacting protein (BECN1) and increased SLC7A11 membrane transfer to combat ferroptosis. In conclusion, Nrf2-dependent autophagy activation is essential for promoting SLC7A11 membrane localization to inhibit ferroptosis. Activation of Nrf2 not only upregulates the expression of SLC7A11, glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX-4) and autophagy-related proteins, but also destroys the binding of SLC7A11 and BECN1 by inducing autophagy, thereby promoting SLC7A11 membrane transfer and GSH synthesis, and finally suppressing ferroptosis. However, inhibition of autophagy had no significant effect on the expression of Nrf2 and downstream genes during SFN anti-liver injury intervention.

RESUMO

An electrochemical sulfonylation-triggered cyclization reaction of indole-tethered terminal alkynes with sulfinates as sulfonyl sources has been developed, which affords exocyclic alkenyl tetrahydrocarbazoles in good chemical yields. This reaction features convenient operation and tolerates a wide scope of substrates with a variety of electronically and sterically diverse substituents. Furthermore, high E-stereoselectivity is observed for this reaction, which provides an efficient method for the preparation of functionalized tetrahydrocarbazole derivatives.

RESUMO

Due to the inflammatory responses associated with defect occurrence and materials implantation, immunoregulation has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance bone regeneration. It has been widely reported that a material could facilitate osteogenesis if it can guide macrophages to anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype, vice versa, a substrate will influence macrophage phenotype if it is osteoinductive. However, few studies have looked into the intercellular crosstalking directly. Herein, the compound catalpol was selected for its multiple functions to study the interactions between bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) and macrophages. This iridoid glucoside exhibits excellent anti-inflammatory and osteoinductive activities. The effects of catalpol on mediating M1/M2 polarization of macrophages, inhibiting osteoclast differentiation, promoting osteogenesis and angiogenesis were systematically investigated to correlate the biological responses of BMSCs and macrophages. To extend its in vivo application, the catalpol was then loaded onto an electrospun polylactide/gelatin composite fibrous mesh and subcutaneously implanted to evaluate the local inflammation and ectopic osteogenesis. The results revealed that the functions of catalpol displayed in modulating cellular behaviors are via cell paracrine to strengthen intercellular crosstalking, hence demonstrating that catalpol itself could serve as a promising bioactive stimulator for bone tissue engineering.

RESUMO

Digital holography has transformative potential in measuring stacked-chip microstructures due to its noninvasive, single-shot, full-field characteristics. However, uncertainties in reconstruction distance inevitably lead to resolving blur and reconstruction distortion. Herein, we propose a phase-based reconstruction optimization method that consists of a phase-evaluation function and a structured surface-characterization model. Our proposed method involves setting a reconstruction distance range, obtaining phase information using sliced numerical reconstruction, and optimizing the reconstruction distance by finding the extreme value of the function, which identifies the focal plane of the reconstructed image. The structure of the surface topography is then characterized using the characterization model. We perform simulations of the recording, reconstruction, and characterization to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. To further demonstrate the approach, a simple holographic recording system is constructed to measure a standard resolution target, and the measurement results are compared with a commercial instrument. The simulation and experiment demonstrate, respectively, 31.16% and 34.41% improvement in step-height characterization accuracy.

RESUMO

Bioinspired actuators with stimuli-responsive and deformable properties are being pursued in fields such as artificial tissues, medical devices and diagnostics, and intelligent biosensors. These applications require that actuator systems have biocompatibility, controlled deformability, biodegradability, mechanical durability, and stable reversibility. Herein, we report a bionic actuator system consisting of stimuli-responsive genetically engineered silk-elastin-like protein (SELP) hydrogels and wood-derived cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), which respond to temperature and ionic strength underwater by ecofriendly methods. Programmed site-selective actuation can be predicted and folded into three-dimensional (3D) origami-like shapes. The reversible deformation performance of the SELP/CNF actuators was quantified, and complex spatial transformations of multilayer actuators were demonstrated, including a biomimetic flower design with selective petal movements. Such actuators consisting entirely of biocompatible and biodegradable materials will offer an option toward constructing stimuli-responsive systems for in vivo biomedicine soft robotics and bionic research.

We used 24-hour weighted dietary record method to collect the intake of complementary foods. Energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B_1, vitamin B_2 and vitamin C intakes were calculated by using Chinese Food Composition Database. RESULTS: For children aged 6-8 months, 9-11 months, 12-17 months and 18-23 months, the energy intake from complementary foods was 156.1, 258.0, 388.7 and 581.1 kcal, respectively. The protein intake was 5.1, 10.1, 15.0 and 21.7 g, respectively. The fat intake was 3.3, 6.7, 9.5 and 15.9 g, respectively. The calcium intake was 38.7, 54.8, 78.6 and 106.9 mg, respectively. The iron intake was 1.3, 2.2, 3.5 and 5.3 mg, respectively. The zinc intake was 0.7, 1.4, 2.0 and 2.9 mg, respectively. The vitamin A intake was 83.7, 100.3, 157.4 and 180.4 µgRAE, respectively. The vitamin B_1 intake was 0.1, 0.2, 0.2 and 0.3 mg, respectively. The vitamin B_2 intake was 0.1, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mg, respectively. The vitamin C intake was 1.8, 6.3, 9.5 and 19.2 mg, respectively. Compared with the World Health Organization recommended value of nutrients density, the density of protein from complementary foods for children aged 6-23 months was higher(2.6-3.8 mg/100 kcal vs.0.9-1.0 mg/100 kcal). The density of iron(1.0, 0.9 mg/100 kcal vs.4.5, 3.0 mg/100 kcal) and zinc(0.5, 0.5 mg/100 kcal vs.1.6, 1.1 mg/100 kcal) was lower for children aged 6-8 months and 9-11 months, respectively. CONCLUSION: The main issues of complementary food for children in China were high protein for children aged 6-23 months and low iron and zinc for infants aged 6-11 months.

RESUMO

Enzymatic reactions can consume endogenous nutrients of tumors and produce cytotoxic species and are therefore promising tools for treating malignant tumors. Inspired by nature where enzymes are compartmentalized in membranes to achieve high reaction efficiency and separate biological processes with the environment, we develop liposomal nanoreactors that can perform enzymatic cascade reactions in the aqueous nanoconfinement of liposomes. The nanoreactors effectively inhibited tumor growth in vivo by consuming tumor nutrients (glucose and oxygen) and producing highly cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals (⋅OH). Co-compartmentalization of glucose oxidase (GOx) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in liposomes could increase local concentration of the intermediate product hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) as well as the acidity due to the generation of gluconic acid by GOx. Both H2 O2 and acidity accelerate the second-step reaction by HRP, hence improving the overall efficiency of the cascade reaction. The biomimetic compartmentalization of enzymatic tandem reactions in biocompatible liposomes provides a promising direction for developing catalytic nanomedicines in antitumor therapy.

RESUMO

Living organisms compartmentalize their catalytic reactions in membranes for increased efficiency and selectivity. To mimic the organelles of eukaryotic cells, we develop a mild approach for in situ encapsulating enzymes in aqueous-core silica nanocapsules. In order to confine the sol-gel reaction at the water/oil interface of miniemulsion, we introduce an aminosilane to the silica precursors, which serves as both catalyst and an amphiphilic anchor that electrostatically assembles with negatively charged hydrolyzed alkoxysilanes at the interface. The semi-permeable shell protects enzymes from proteolytic attack, and allows the transport of reactants and products. The enzyme-carrying nanocapsules, as synthetic nano-organelles, are able to perform cascade reactions when enveloped in a polymer vesicle, mimicking the hierarchically compartmentalized reactions in eukaryotic cells. This in situ encapsulation approach provides a versatile platform for the delivery of biomacromolecules.

RESUMO

Soluble fibrin (SF) in blood consists of monomers lacking both fibrinopeptides A with a minor population in multimeric clusters. It is a substantial component of isolated fibrinogen (fg), which spontaneously self-assembles into protofibrils progressing to fibers at sub-physiologic temperatures, a process enhanced by adsorption to hydrophobic and some metal surfaces. Comparisons of SF-rich (FR) and SF-depleted (FD) fg isolates disclosed distinct molecular imprints of each via an adsorption/desorption procedure using gold surfaced silica microplates. Accelerated plasminogen activator-induced lysis and decreased stiffness (G') of thrombin-induced FR fg clots were revealed by thomboelastography. Erythrocyte sedimentation (ESR) in afibrinogenemic plasma (Hematocrit 25-33%) was accelerated by FR fg nearly threefold that of FD fg. Stained smears disclosed frequent rouleaux formations and fibers linking stacked erythrocytes in contrast to no rouleaux by FD fg. Rouleaux formations were more pronounced at 4 °C than at ambient temperatures and at fiber-membrane contacts displayed irregular, knobby membrane contours. One of several FR fg isolates also displayed incomplete fiber networks in cell-free areas. What is more, pre-mixing FR fg with each of three monoclonal IgG anti-fg antibodies at 1.5 mol/mol fg, that inhibited fibrin polymerization, prevented rouleaux formation save occasional 2-4 erythrocyte aggregates. We conclude that spontaneously generated SF fibers bound to erythrocytes forming intercellular links culminating in rouleaux formation and ensuing ESR acceleration which in clinical settings reflects hypercoagulability. Also, the results can explain the reported fg binding to erythrocytes via ligands such as CD47, stable in vivo RBC aggregates in capillaries, and red areas of pathologic thrombi.

RESUMO

Learning-based computer-generated holography (CGH) has shown remarkable promise to enable real-time holographic displays. Supervised CGH requires creating a large-scale dataset with target images and corresponding holograms. We propose a diffraction model-informed neural network framework (self-holo) for 3D phase-only hologram generation. Due to the angular spectrum propagation being incorporated into the neural network, the self-holo can be trained in an unsupervised manner without the need of a labeled dataset. Utilizing the various representations of a 3D object and randomly reconstructing the hologram to one layer of a 3D object keeps the complexity of the self-holo independent of the number of depth layers. The self-holo takes amplitude and depth map images as input and synthesizes a 3D hologram or a 2D hologram. We demonstrate 3D reconstructions with a good 3D effect and the generalizability of self-holo in numerical and optical experiments.
