RESUMO

Objective: To study the character of sinus pericranii in the adults and enhance the levels of the diagnosis and treatment of sinus pericranii. Methods: The clinical data of 13 adult patients with sinuses pericranii undergoing surgery in Beijing Hospital from 1992 to 2016 were analyzed retrospectively, including clinical manifestations, imaging data, surgical results. Results: Each of the patients presented with a nonpulsatile and soft tissue mass in their heads.Their ages ranged from 18 to 48 years (mean, 26 years). The diagnosis of the sinus pericranii was made by the clinical manifestations combined with CT and/or MRI examinations. The sinus pericranii did not play the main role in the drainage of the cerebral vein blood. All the patients were cured. The follow up time was from 6 months to 20 years with no sinus pericranii recurrence in all the patients. Conclusions: The analysis of the drainage pattern of sinus pericranii was necessary before surgery in order to get a safe and good operation. The curative effect of the surgery on the sinus pericranii in adult was reliable.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the characteristics of superior petrosal vein (SPV) and its influence on the surgical field in microvascular decompression (MVD) for trigeminal neuralgia (TN), and to analyze the effect of the surgical treatment of SPV on the surgical approach, indication and prognosis. Methods: The clinical data of 280 patients with trigeminal neuralgia between Jan. 2013 and Jun. 2016 were collected, including the trunks and the branches of SPV, intraoperative electrocoagulation status, the surgery outcome and complications. Results: The petrosal vein during the operation was fully preserved in 152 cases (54.29%). The SPV were completely sectioned in 25 cases (8.92%), while some branches of SPV were sectioned in 103 cases (36.79%). We found that SPV have 1 to 3 trunks, accounted for 67 cases (23.90%), 168 cases (60%), and 45 cases (16.10%), while the SPV with 1 to 4 branches accounted for 17 cases (6.07%), 112 cases (40%), 136 cases (48.57%), and 15 cases (5.36%). The SPV was identified as offending vessel in 17 cases (6.07%). One patient with cutoff SPV trunk encountered cerebellar infarction and recovered completely at 2 weeks after MVD by using intravenous medication. Conclusions: MVD is the recommended treatment method for PTN, mostly SPV is unnecessary to be sectioned completely and small branches of SPV could be sacrificed. Very few patients may develop cerebellar infarction or hematoma.

RESUMO

In this present paper, simultaneous determination of Ca(2+) and Mg(2+) cations in saliva, urine was achieved using an ion chromatography method, in which a piezoelectric quartz crystal (PQC) sensor was used as a detector, and a solution containing tartaric acid (4 mmol 1(-1)) and ethylenediamine (2 mmol 1(-1)) as a mobile phase. Good linearities were obtained over the ranges of 0.8-500 mg 1(-1) Ca(2+) and 1.0-500 mg 1(-1) Mg(2+). The detection limits were 0.4 mg 1(-1) for Ca and 0.2 mg 1(-1) for Mg, respectively.

RESUMO

Fibronectin was localized in human cholesteatoma tissues by immunohistochemical methods. The avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex staining method was used with specific fibronectin antibody. Fibronectin appeared to be localized in the matrix of the cholesteatoma studied, particularly on the surface of the cell membranes and the nuclei of the basal cells and in connective tissue. Fibronectin was not seen in the granular layer or in the keratin area. Fibronectin was found on the surface of granulation tissue, mononuclear cells, fibroblasts and endothelial cells of blood vessels. These findings were confirmed by the immunofluorescent staining method. Our previous study showed that fibronectin induced a migration of keratinocytes, macrophages and fibroblasts demonstrated by the Boyden's chamber chemotaxis assay. Macrophages and fibroblasts were shown to produce collagenase, a bone resorption factor, in cholesteatomatous tissue. The present study showed the presence of fibronectin in the matrix of cholesteatoma and granulation tissue, suggesting that fibronectin might play an important role in the clinical development and invasive behavior of cholesteatoma.

RESUMO

Bone destruction is one of the clinical features of chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. Bone resorption may be due to the epithelial debris accumulated in the cholesteatoma epidermal sac that acts as foreign body material inducing a destructive granulation tissue and creates pressure on the bony middle ear. This compressive force then induces bone resorption. The present study was designed to replicate certain conditions similar to those in cholesteatoma leading to bone resorption. Four types of materials were implanted into the middle ear cavity of rats: (1) laminaria, an expandable seaweed material, (2) preswollen laminaria, (3) keratin powder suspension, and (4) surgical grade silicone, which when bent exerts pressure on the bulla wall. The placement of laminaria segments in the middle ear cavity of rats was followed by swelling of the implanted materials within 7 days. The bulla bone response was by neo-osteogenesis as well as active bone resorption. The new bone was observed on the external and/or internal surface of the tympanic bone. The cochlear bone also showed extensive bone resorption in the animals. Osteogenesis was rarely observed on the capsule of the cochlea. We also observed no bone resorption at sites without presence of inflammatory connective tissue between laminaria and bone. The typical multinucleated osteoclasts were often seen at the resorption area but the majority of bone resorption sites were characterized by the presence of mononuclear cells and other inflammatory cells. Preswollen laminaria, keratin powder, and silicone strips induced minimal bone resorption. No resorption was observed in the bony cochleas of these experimental groups.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

RESUMO

We constructed a chromosomal specific probe pool from human chromosome No. 7 using the techniques of chromosomal microdissection, PCR and chromosomal painting. A patient's pedigree with an abnormal chromosome No. 7 were analysed by the above probe pool.
