Cesium lead halide (CsPbX3, X = Br, Cl, and I) nanocrystals (NCs) are widely concerned and applied in many fields due to the excellent photoelectric performance. However, the toxicity of Pb and the loss of luminescence in water limit its application in vivo. A stable perovskite nanomaterial with good bioimaging properties is developed by incorporating europium (Eu) in CsPbX3 NCs followed with the surface coating of silica (SiO2) shell (CsPbX3:Eu@SiO2). Through the surface coating of SiO2, the luminescence stability of CsPbBr3 in water is improved and the leakage of Pb2+ is significantly reduced. In particular, Eu doping inhibits the photoluminescence quantum yield reduction of CsPbBr3 caused by SiO2 coating, and further reduces the release of Pb2+. CsPbBr3:Eu@SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) show efficient luminescence in water and good biocompatibility to achieve cell imaging. More importantly, CsPb(ClBr)3:Eu@SiO2 NPs are obtained by adjusting the halogen components, and green light and blue light are realized in zebrafish imaging, showing good imaging effect and biosafety. The work provides a strategy for advanced perovskite nanomaterials toward biological practical application.

Macroautophagy/autophagy is a conserved process in eukaryotic cells that mediates the degradation and recycling of intracellular substrates. Proteins encoded by autophagy-related (ATG) genes are essentially involved in the autophagy process and must be tightly regulated in response to various circumstances, such as nutrient-rich and starvation conditions. However, crucial transcriptional activators of ATG genes have remained obscure. Here, we identify the RNA polymerase II subunit Rpb9 as an essential regulator of autophagy by a high-throughput screen of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae gene knockout library. Rpb9 plays a crucial and specific role in upregulating ATG1 transcription, and its deficiency decreases autophagic activities. Rpb9 promotes ATG1 transcription by binding to its promoter region, which is mediated by Gcn4. Furthermore, the function of Rpb9 in autophagy and its regulation of ATG1/ULK1 transcription are conserved in mammalian cells. Together, our results indicate that Rpb9 specifically activates ATG1 transcription and thus positively regulates the autophagy process.

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the feasibility of a bioabsorbable cage consisting of magnesium and magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) in a porcine lumbar interbody fusion model. METHODS: Twelve male Ba-Ma mini pigs underwent lumbar discectomy and fusion with an Mg-MPC cage or a PEEK cage at the L3/L4 and L4/L5 level. Computed tomography (CT) scans were made to evaluate the distractive property by comparing average disc space height (DSH) before and at 6, 12, and 24 weeks after the operation. After the lumbar spines were harvested at 6 or 24 weeks after the operation, micro-CT examination was conducted to analyze the fusion rate, and stiffness of motion segments was investigated through mechanical tests. A histological study was performed to evaluate the tissue type, inflammation, and osteolysis in the intervertebral space. RESULTS: CT scans showed no significant difference between the two groups in average DSH at each time point. Micro-CT scans revealed an equal fusion rate in both groups (0% at 6 weeks, 83.3% at 24 weeks). Both groups showed time-dependent increases in stability, the Mg-MPC cages achieved an inferior stiffness at 6 weeks and a comparable stiffness at 24 weeks. Histologic evaluation showed the presence of newly formed bone in both groups. However, empty spaces were observed at the interface or around the Mg-MPC cages. CONCLUSION: Compared with the PEEK cages, the Mg-MPC cages achieved comparable distraction, fusion rate, and spinal stability at 24 weeks after the operation. However, due to inferior stiffness at the early stage and fast degradation, further modification of material composition and design are necessary.

OBJECTIVES: The inflammatory cascade and cell death post-myocardial ischemia reperfusion (MI/R) are very complex. Despite the understanding that macrophage inflammation has a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of MI/R, the contribution of macrophage inflammatory signals in tailoring the function of vascular endothelium remains unknown. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present study, we analyzed the effects of NEDD4 on the NLRP3 inflammasome activation-mediated pyroptosis in vitro after an acute pro-inflammatory stimulus and in vivo in a MI/R mouse model. TTC and Evan's blue dye, Thioflavin S, immunohistochemistry staining, and ELISA were performed in wild-type and NEDD4 deficiency mice. THP-1 cells were transfected with si-NEDD4 or si-SF3A2. HEK293T cells were transfected with NEDD4 or SF3A2 overexpression plasmid. ELISA analyzed the inflammatory cytokines in the cell supernatant. The levels of NEDD4, SF3A2, and NLRP3/GSDMD pathway were determined by Western blot. Protein interactions were evaluated by immunoprecipitation. The protein colocalization in cells was monitored using a fluorescence microscope. RESULTS: NEDD4 inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation and pyroptosis in THP-1 cells treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and nigericin (Nig). Mechanistically, NEDD4 maintained the stability of NLRP3 through direct interaction with the SF3A2, whereas the latter association with NLRP3 indirectly interacted with NEDD4 promoting proteasomal degradation of NLRP3. Deletion of NLRP3 expression further inhibited the caspase cascade to induce pyroptosis. Interestingly, inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation in THP-1 cells could prevent cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) injury. In addition, NEDD4 deficiency decreased animal survival and increased myocardial infarct size, no-reflow area, and promoted macrophages infiltration post-MI/R. CONCLUSIONS: NEDD4 could be a potential therapeutic target in microvascular injury following myocardial reperfusion. Video Abstract.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly malignant solid tumor that lacks early diagnostic methods. Recently, targeted immunotherapy and radiotherapy have been integrated with radionuclide-antibody conjugate drugs, which can be used for targeted diagnosis and dynamic imaging of tumors. CEACAM6 is overexpressed in pancreatic tumors and is a potential theranostic target for PDAC. We aimed to develop a novel targeted carrier for theranostics of PDAC and other solid tumors. METHODS: Based on camelid heavy-chain-only antibodies, we developed a CEACAM6-targeting recombinant antibody NY004, and evaluated it as a novel antibody-carrier for imaging and therapy of cancer in tumor models. We labeled NY004 with theranostic nuclides and applied this self-developed antibody platform in diagnostic imaging and antitumor assessment in PDAC models. RESULTS: Through microPET, IHC, and biodistribution assays, targeting and biodistribution of [89Zr]-NY004 in solid tumors including PDAC was examined, and the investigated tumors were all CEACAM6-positive malignancies. We found that NY004 was suitable for use as a drug carrier for radioimmunotheranostics. Our study showed that NY004 was characterized by high targeted uptake and a long retention time in PANC-1 tumors (up to 6 days post-injection), with good specificity and high imaging efficiency. Therapeutic evaluation of the radionuclide-labeled antibody drug [177Lu]-NY004 in PDAC tumor-bearing model revealed that NY004 had high and prolonged uptake in tumors, relatively low non-target organ uptake, and good anti-tumor efficacy. CONCLUSION: As a drug platform for radiotheranostics, CEACAM6-specific antibody NY004 met the requirements of easy-labeling, targeting specificity, and effective persistence in pancreatic adenocarcinoma tissues. KEY POINTS: • [89Zr]-NY004 has good specificity and high imaging efficiency, and is characterized by high tumor-targeting uptake and a long tumor retention time as a PET molecular imaging tracer. • Therapeutic radionuclide-conjugated antibody drug [177Lu]-NY004 has high uptake and prolonged uptake duration in tumors, low non-target organ uptake, and significant tumor-inhibiting efficacy in PDAC model. • The self-developed antibody structure NY004 is a promising drug platform for radioimmunotheranostics of CEACAM6-positive tumors including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Cancer-related fatigue is a widely prevalent global public health concern with serious consequences. Increasing evidence suggests the effectiveness of exercise intervention in treating cancer-related fatigue, but there is a lack of a summary of relevant literature on the same to help reach a clear consensus. OBJECTIVE: To summarize evidence regarding the efficacy of exercise interventions to reduce cancer fatigue, as determined in systematic reviews (SRs) and/or meta-analyses (MAs). METHOD: From inception to September 2022, PubMed (1948-2022), Embase (1974-2022), Cochrane Library (1993-2022), CINAHL (1937-2022), Web of Science (1997-2022), China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database (1999-2022), Wanfang Database (1993-2022), and Chinese Biomedical Database (1994-2022) were searched for inclusion to the study. Two reviewers independently extracted the data from the included articles. AMSTAR II was to evaluate the methodological quality of the reviews. RESULTS: A total of 46 systematic reviews were assessed for data on exercise intervention in reducing cancer-related fatigue among cancer patients. In addition, some studies have reported adverse events during the exercise intervention period. The quality of the included systematic review was found to be low or critically low. CONCLUSIONS: The present systematic review of systematic reviews supports exercise intervention for reducing cancer-related fatigue. Further higher-quality studies are warranted to improve the level of evidence for exercise interventions for application in the treatment of cancer-related fatigue.

Face masks with multiple functionalities and exceptional durability have attracted increasing interests during the COVID-19 pandemic. How to integrate the antibacterial property, comfortability during long-time wearing, and breath monitoring capability together on a face mask is still challenging. Here we developed a kind of face mask that assembles the particles-free water-repellent fabric, antibacterial fabric, and hidden breath monitoring device together, resulting in the highly breathable, water-repellent, and antibacterial face mask with breath monitoring capability. Based on the rational design of the functional layers, the mask shows exceptional repellency to micro-fogs generated during breathing while maintaining high air permeability and inhibiting the passage of bacteria-containing aerogel. More importantly, the multi-functional mask can also monitor the breath condition in a wireless and real-time fashion, and collect the breath information for epidemiological analysis. The resultant mask paves the way to develop multi-functional breath-monitoring masks that can aid the prevention of the secondary transmission of bacteria and viruses while preventing potential discomfort and face skin allergy during long-period wearing.

In the paper, we employ an improved physics-informed neural network (PINN) algorithm to investigate the data-driven nonlinear wave solutions to the nonlocal Davey-Stewartson (DS) I equation with parity-time (PT) symmetry, including the line breather, kink-shaped and W-shaped line rogue wave solutions. Both the PT symmetry and model are introduced into the loss function to strengthen the physical constraint. In addition, since the nonlocal DS I equation is a high-dimensional coupled system, this leads to an increase in the number of output results. The PT symmetry also needs to be learned that is not given in advance, which increases challenges in computing for multi-output neural networks. To address these problems, our objective is to assign various levels of weight to different items in the loss function. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm has better prediction accuracy to a certain extent compared with the original PINN algorithm. This approach is feasible to investigate complex nonlinear waves in a high-dimensional model with PT symmetry.

Steel rolling sludge (SRS) is the by-product of metallurgical industry with abundant iron content, which needs to be utilized for producing high value-added products. Herein, cost-effective and highly adsorbent α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles were prepared from SRS via a novel solvent-free method and applied to treat As(III/V)-containing wastewater. The structure of the prepared nanoparticles was observed to be spherical with a small crystal size (12.58 nm) and high specific surface area (145.03 m2/g). The nucleation mechanism of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles and the effect of crystal water were investigated. More importantly, compared with the traditional methods of preparation cost and yield, this study was found to have excellent economic benefits. The adsorption results indicated that the adsorbent could effectively remove arsenic over a wide pH range, and the optimal performance of nano adsorbent for As(III) and As(V) removal was observed at pH 4.0-9.0 and 2.0-4.0, respectively. The adsorption process was consistent with pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isothermal model. The maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of adsorbent for As(III) and As(V) was 75.67 mg/g and 56.07 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles exhibited great stability, and qm remained at 64.43 mg/g and 42.39 mg/g after five cycles. Particularly, the As(III) was removed by forming inner-sphere complexes with the adsorbent, and it partially oxidized to As(V) during this process. In contrast, the As(V) was removed by electrostatic adsorption and reaction with -OH on the adsorbent surface. Overall, resource utilization of SRS and the treatment of As(III)/(V)-containing wastewater in this study are in line with the current developments in the environmental and waste-to-value research.

Maximizing the utilization of industrial by-products, such as iron ore tailings (IOTs) and coal fly ash (CFA), is crucial toward sustainable development. This study provides a meticulous insight into the optimization, mechanism, and assessment of the co-utilization of IOTs and CFA for the preparation of porous ceramsite. Micro-CT results revealed that the prepared ceramsite exhibited an exceptional porosity, peaking at 56.98%, with a wide range of pore diameters (3.55-959.10 µm) under optimal conditions (IOTs content at 76%, preheating at 550 °C for 15 min, and sintering at 1177 °C for 14 min), while maintaining good mechanical properties (water adsorption of 1.28%, comprehensive strength of 8.75 MPa, apparent density of 1.37 g/cm3, and bulk density of 0.62 g/cm3). The primary parameters affecting the porosity were identified and ranked as follows: sintering temperature > IOTs content > sintering time. The formation and growth of pores could be attributed to the equilibrium relationship between the liquid-phase surface tension and the gas expansion force, accompanied by pore wall thinning and pore merging. Notably, the prepared ceramsite is both ecologically feasible and economically rewarding, boasting a profit margin of 9.47 $/ton. The comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) conducted further highlights the potential of its large-scale implementation for promoting sustainable development. This study provides an innovative strategy for the co-utilization of IOTs and CFA, with advantages such as cost-effectiveness, ecological feasibility and scalability of production.

BACKGROUND: Acute lung injury (ALI), a severe health-threatening disease, has a risk of causing chronic pulmonary fibrosis. Informative and powerful evidence suggests that inflammation and oxidative stress play a central role in the pathogenesis of ALI. Quercetin is well recognized for its excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which showed great potential for ALI treatment. However, the application of quercetin is often hindered by its low solubility and bioavailability. Therefore, to overcome these challenges, an inhalable quercetin-alginate nanogel (QU-Nanogel) was fabricated, and by this special "material-drug" structure, the solubility and bioavailability of quercetin were significantly enhanced, which could further increase the activity of quercetin and provide a promising therapy for ALI. RESULTS: QU-Nanogel is a novel alginate and quercetin based "material-drug" structural inhalable nanogel, in which quercetin was stabilized by hydrogen bonding to obtain a "co-construct" water-soluble nanogel system, showing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. QU-Nanogel has an even distribution in size of less than 100 nm and good biocompatibility, which shows a stronger protective and antioxidant effect in vitro. Tissue distribution results provided evidence that the QU-Nanogel by ultrasonic aerosol inhalation is a feasible approach to targeted pulmonary drug delivery. Moreover, QU-Nanogel was remarkably reversed ALI rats by relieving oxidative stress damage and acting the down-regulation effects of mRNA and protein expression of inflammation cytokines via ultrasonic aerosol inhalation administration. CONCLUSIONS: In the ALI rat model, this novel nanogel showed an excellent therapeutic effect by ultrasonic aerosol inhalation administration by protecting and reducing pulmonary inflammation, thereby preventing subsequent pulmonary fibrosis. This work demonstrates that this inhalable QU-Nanogel may function as a promising drug delivery strategy in treating ALI.

In this paper, we propose an asymmetric double-image encryption via wavelength multiplexing. First, a novel iterative phase retrieval algorithm, to the best of our knowledge, is developed to encode two images into one complex-valued function via wavelength multiplexing. Then, the function is encoded by equal modulus decomposition (EMD). This cryptosystem not only retains the advantages of EMD but also reduces the number of public keys so as to enhance the resistance to the amplitude-phase retrieval algorithm (APRA). In the decryption, two high-quality decrypted images can be obtained with their corresponding wavelengths. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that wavelength multiplexing is used to achieve high-quality two-image encryption and decryption. Numerical simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of this new method.

Chromatin immunoprecipitation coupled with high-throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq) can profile genome-wide epigenetic marks associated with regulatory genomic elements. However, conventional ChIP-seq is challenging when examining limited numbers of cells. Here, we developed a new technique by supplementing carrier materials of both chemically modified mimics with epigenetic marks and dUTP-containing DNA fragments during conventional ChIP procedures (hereafter referred to as 2cChIP-seq), thus dramatically improving immunoprecipitation efficiency and reducing DNA loss of low-input ChIP-seq samples. Using this strategy, we generated high-quality epigenomic profiles of histone modifications or DNA methylation in 10-1000 cells. By introducing Tn5 transposase-assisted fragmentation, 2cChIP-seq reliably captured genomic regions with histone modification at the single-cell level in about 100 cells. Moreover, we characterized the methylome of 100 differentiated female germline stem cells (FGSCs) and observed a particular DNA methylation signature potentially involved in the differentiation of mouse germline stem cells. Hence, we provided a reliable and robust epigenomic profiling approach for small cell numbers and single cells.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial reperfusion injury is often accompanied by cell death and inflammatory reactions. Recently, pyroptosis is gradually recognized as pivotal role in cardiovascular disease. However, little is known about the regulatory role of beclin1 in the control of caspase-4 activation and pyroptosis. The present study confirmed whether beclin1 regulates caspase-4 mediated pyroptosis and thereby protects Human Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (HCMECs) against injury. METHODS: TTC and Evan's blue dye, western blot, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry staining were performed in wild mice and transgenic mice with overexpression of beclin 1(BECN1-Tg). CMECs were transfected with a beclin1 lentivirus. The cell cytotoxicity was analyzed by LDH-Cytotoxicity Assay Kit. The protein levels of autophagy protein (Beclin1, p62 and LC3II/LC3I) and caspase-4/GSDMD pathway were determined by western blot. Autophagic vacuoles in cells were monitored with RFP-GFP-LC3 using fluorescence microscope. RESULTS: I/R caused caspase-4 activity and gasdermin D expression increase in vivo and in vitro. Overexpression of beclin1 in heart tissue and CMECs suppressed the caspase-4 activity and decreased the levels of gasdermin D; meanwhile beclin1 overexpression also reduced IL-1ß levels, promoted autophagy (p62 expression was inhibited while LC3II expression was increased) in the heart and CMECs. Interestingly, beclin1 overexpression increased animal survival and attenuated myocardial infarct size (45 ± 6.13 vs 22 ± 4.37), no-reflow area (39 ± 5.22 vs 16 ± 2.54) post-myocardial ischemia reperfusion. CONCLUSIONS: Induction of beclin-1 signaling can be a potential therapeutic target in myocardial reperfusion-induced microvascular injury. Video Abstract.

Chronic pain is a significant public health problem with emotional and disabling factors, which may not completely respond to current medical treatments such as opioids. The systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the effectiveness and safety of MBCT for patients with chronic pain. Database searches of PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus and CINAHL up to 15 October 2019. Included studies assessed with the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Eight RCTs involved 433 patients, including chronic low back pain, fibromyalgia, migraine, rheumatoid arthritis and mix etiology. MBCT intervention demonstrated a short-term improvement on depression mood [standardized mean difference -0.72; 95% confidence interval = -1.22 to -0.22, p = 0.005] compared with usual care and was associated with short-term improvement in mindfulness compared with non-MBCT [SMD 0.51; 95% CI = 0.01 to 1.01, p = 0.04]. Between-group differences in pain intensity, pain inference and pain acceptance were not significant at short- or long-term follow-up. Compared to active treatments, MBCT intervention not found significant differences in either short- or long-term outcomes. MBCT showed short-term efficacious on depressed mood and mindfulness of chronic pain patients. Longer follow-ups, large sample and rigorous RCTs that can be best understand remaining uncertainties needed.

Here, we aimed to build a nomogram model to estimate the probability of nasogastric tube-associated pressure injuries (NTAPIs) in intensive care unit(ICU)patients. This prospective cohort study included 219ICU patients with nasogastric tube between September 2019 and January 2020.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to develop the nomogram model. The resulting nomogram was tested for calibration, discrimination, and clinical usefulness. Of the included patients, 58 developed NTAPIs, representing an incidence rate of 26.5%. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that the prediction nomogram included C-reactive protein, vasopressor use, albumin level, nasogastric tube duration, and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score. The value of these predictors was again confirmed using theLasso regression analysis. Internal validation presented a good discrimination of the nomogram, with an area under the curve value of 0.850, and good calibration (Hosmer-Lemeshow test, P = 0.177). The decision curve analysis also demonstrated preferable net benefit along with the threshold probability in the prediction nomogram. The nomogram model can accurately predict the risk factors for NTAPIs, to formulate intervention strategies as early as possible to reduce NTAPI incidence.

The knowledge, attitude, and practice of nurses in intensive care units (ICUs) are determinants for the efficacy of preventing the medical device-related pressure injury (MDRPI). The aim of this study was to determine the level and factors of knowledge, attitude, and practice of nurses' ICUs on preventing medical MDRPI in western China. An annual cross-sectional study was conducted in hospitals of western China from May 2020 to September 2020. Nurses' knowledge and attitudes were assessed using Clinical Nurses Prevention MDRPI of Critically Ill Patients for the Knowledge, Attitude, Practice Assessment Scale. SPSS software version 25.0 and independent t-test, Chi-square, Fisher exact, one-way analysis of variance, and multiple linear regression tests were used for data analysis. A total of 1002 nurses in ICUs from 37 hospitals in Gansu Province, China, participated in this study. The scores of overall KAP, knowledge, attitudes, and practice were 149.17 ± 24.62, 53.83 ± 12.23, 37.24 ± 6.35 and 58.10 ± 9.83, respectively. There was a positive and significant relationship between three variables. Findings revealed that nurses' knowledge score in the Tertiary hospital was higher than scores of other hospitals as 3.840 units. Moreover, the knowledge score and practice score of nurses with bachelor's degree or above were higher than other nurses and are 0.978 and 1.106 units, respectively. Based on the findings, practice of nurses increased by 0.992 units, with a 1-year increase in work experience of nurses in the ICU. The levels of knowledge, attitude, and practice of nurse in ICUs on preventing MDRPI were acceptable. The findings of the study highlight that a comprehensive approach should be conducted for raising the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of nurses' ICUs on preventing medical MDRPI, as well as improving the quality of care for critically ill patients.

Many Actinidia cultivars are characterized by anthocyanin accumulation, specifically in the inner pericarp, but the underlying regulatory mechanism remains elusive. Here we report two interacting transcription factors, AcMYB123 and AcbHLH42, that regulate tissue-specific anthocyanin biosynthesis in the inner pericarp of Actinidia chinensis cv. Hongyang. Through transcriptome profiling analysis we identified five MYB and three bHLH transcription factors that were upregulated in the inner pericarp. We show that the combinatorial action of two of them, AcMYB123 and AcbHLH42, is required for activating promoters of AcANS and AcF3GT1 that encode the dedicated enzymes for anthocyanin biosynthesis. The presence of anthocyanin in the inner pericarp appears to be tightly associated with elevated expression of AcMYB123 and AcbHLH42. RNA interference repression of AcMYB123, AcbHLH42, AcF3GT1 and AcANS in 'Hongyang' fruits resulted in significantly reduced anthocyanin biosynthesis. Using both transient assays in Nicotiana tabacum leaves or Actinidia arguta fruits and stable transformation in Arabidopsis, we demonstrate that co-expression of AcMYB123 and AcbHLH42 is a prerequisite for anthocyanin production by activating transcription of AcF3GT1 and AcANS or the homologous genes. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that AcMYB123 or AcbHLH42 are closely related to TT2 or TT8, respectively, which determines proanthocyanidin biosynthesis in Arabidopsis, and to anthocyanin regulators in monocots rather than regulators in dicots. All these experimental results suggest that AcMYB123 and AcbHLH42 are the components involved in spatiotemporal regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis specifically in the inner pericarp of kiwifruit.

In ice thickness measurement (ICM) procedures based on Raman scattering, a key issue is the detection of ice-water interface using the slight difference between the Raman spectra of ice and water. To tackle this issue, we developed a new deep residual network (DRN) to cast this detection as an identification problem. Thus, the interface detection is converted to the prediction of the Raman spectra of ice and water. We enabled this process by designing a powerful DRN that was trained by a set of Raman spectral data, obtained in advance. In contrast to the state-of-the-art Gaussian fitting method (GFM), the proposed DRN enables ICM with a simple operation and low costs, as well as high accuracy and speed. Experimental results were collected to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed DRN.

Smart foams with tunable foamability exhibit superb applications in many fields such as colloidal and interface science. Herein, we have synthesized an azobenzene-containing surfactant with excellent photoresponsiveness by a simple thiol-maleimide click reaction between thioglycolic acid and 4-(N-maleimide) azobenzene (MAB). The structure and the photoresponsive behavior of the novel surfactant are characterized. Depending on the solution concentration, the synthesized surfactant demonstrated various speeds for the trans/cis photoisomerization varying from 9 to 24 s for the given concentration range and excellent reversible photoisomerization cycling stability (more than 20 cycles) upon light irradiation. Based on these conformational switches, a series of phototriggered obvious surface properties (e.g., critical micelle concentration (CMC), surface tension (γ), and surface excess concentration (Γ)) changes of the surfactant are achieved. More specifically, the smart foam system with tunable foamability is realized. As-formed smart foams with rapid photocontrolled reversible foaming/defoaming transition and excellent cycling stability make them very attractive candidates for applications in wastewater treatment, green textile, oil extraction, and emulsification.
