OBJECTIVES: Despite the recommendation for lung-protective mechanical ventilation (LPMV) in pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS), there is a lack of robust supporting data and variable adherence in clinical practice. This study evaluates the impact of an LPMV protocol vs. standard care and adherence to LPMV elements on mortality. We hypothesized that LPMV strategies deployed as a pragmatic protocol reduces mortality in PARDS. DESIGN: Multicenter prospective before-and-after comparison design study. SETTING: Twenty-one PICUs. PATIENTS: Patients fulfilled the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference 2015 definition of PARDS and were on invasive mechanical ventilation. INTERVENTIONS: The LPMV protocol included a limit on peak inspiratory pressure (PIP), delta/driving pressure (DP), tidal volume, positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to F io2 combinations of the low PEEP acute respiratory distress syndrome network table, permissive hypercarbia, and conservative oxygen targets. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: There were 285 of 693 (41·1%) and 408 of 693 (58·9%) patients treated with and without the LPMV protocol, respectively. Median age and oxygenation index was 1.5 years (0.4-5.3 yr) and 10.9 years (7.0-18.6 yr), respectively. There was no difference in 60-day mortality between LPMV and non-LPMV protocol groups (65/285 [22.8%] vs. 115/406 [28.3%]; p = 0.104). However, total adherence score did improve in the LPMV compared to non-LPMV group (57.1 [40.0-66.7] vs. 47.6 [31.0-58.3]; p < 0·001). After adjusting for confounders, adherence to LPMV strategies (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.97-0.99; p = 0.004) but not the LPMV protocol itself was associated with a reduced risk of 60-day mortality. Adherence to PIP, DP, and PEEP/F io2 combinations were associated with reduced mortality. CONCLUSIONS: Adherence to LPMV elements over the first week of PARDS was associated with reduced mortality. Future work is needed to improve implementation of LPMV in order to improve adherence.

OBJECTIVES: Galectin-9, as immune checkpoint protein, plays a role in regulating autoimmunity and tumour immunity. Therefore, we explored the pathophysiological link between galectin-9 and malignancy in cancer-related DM (CRDM). METHODS: Serum galectin-9 were quantified via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and its association with serological indices was evaluated using Spearman analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was utilized to determine the cut-off value of galectin-9. RESULTS: Serum levels of galectin-9 were significantly higher in DM patients [23.38 (13.85-32.57) ng/ml] than those in healthy controls (HCs) [6.81 (5.42-7.89) ng/ml, P < 0.0001], and were positively correlated with the cutaneous dermatomyositis disease area severity index activity (CDASI-A) scores (rs=0.3065, P = 0.0172). DM patients with new-onset and untreated cancer (new-CRDM) [31.58 (23.85-38.84) ng/ml] had higher levels of galectin-9 than those with stable and treated cancer (stable-CRDM) [17.49 (10.23-27.91) ng/ml, P = 0.0288], non-cancer-related DM (non-CRDM) [21.05 (11.97-28.02) ng/ml, P = 0.0258], and tumour patients without DM [7.46 (4.90-8.51) ng/ml, P < 0.0001]. Serum galectin-9 levels significantly decreased [27.79 (17.04-41.43) ng/ml vs 13.88 (5.15-20.37) ng/ml, P = 0.002] after anti-cancer treatment in CRDM patients. The combination of serum galectin-9 and anti-transcriptional intermediary factor 1-γ (anti-TIF1-γ) antibody (AUC = 0.889, 95% CI 0.803-0.977) showed the highest predictive value for the presence of cancer in DM. CONCLUSION: Increased galectin-9 levels were related to tumor progression in CRDM, and galectin-9 was downregulated upon cancer treatment. Monitoring serum galectin-9 levels and anti-TIF1-γ antibodies might be an attractive strategy to achieve tumour diagnosis and predict CRDM outcome.

BACKGROUND: Loss-of-function mutations of ZBTB24 cause immunodeficiency, centromeric instability, and facial anomalies syndrome 2 (ICF2). ICF2 is a rare autosomal recessive disorder with immunological defects in serum antibodies and circulating memory B cells, resulting in recurrent and sometimes fatal respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. The genotype-phenotype correlation in patients with ICF2 indicates an essential role of ZBTB24 in the terminal differentiation of B cells. METHODS: We used the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPER)/Cas9 technology to generate B cell specific Zbtb24-deficient mice and verified the deletion specificity and efficiency by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Q-PCR) and western blotting analyses in fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS)-sorted cells. The development, phenotype of B cells and in vivo responses to T cell dependent or independent antigens post immunization were analyzed by flow cytometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Adoptive transfer experiment in combination with in vitro cultures of FACS-purified B cells and RNA-Seq analysis were utilized to specifically determine the impact of Zbtb24 on B cell biology as well as the underlying mechanisms. RESULTS: Zbtb24 is dispensable for B cell development and maintenance in naive mice. Surprisingly, B cell specific deletion of Zbtb24 does not evidently compromise germinal center reactions and the resulting primary and secondary antibody responses induced by T cell dependent antigens (TD-Ags), but significantly inhibits T cell independent antigen-elicited antibody productions in vivo. At the cellular level, Zbtb24-deficiency specifically impedes the plasma cell differentiation of B1 cells without impairing their survival, activation and proliferation in vitro. Mechanistically, Zbtb24-ablation attenuates heme biosynthesis partially through mTORC1 in B1 cells, and addition of exogenous hemin abrogates the differentiation defects of Zbtb24-null B1 cells. CONCLUSIONS: Zbtb24 seems to regulate antibody responses against TD-Ags B cell extrinsically, but it specifically promotes the plasma cell differentiation of B1 cells via heme synthesis in mice. Our study also suggests that defected B1 functions contribute to recurrent infections in patients with ICF2.

OBJECTIVES: Mortality from pneumonia is three times higher in Asia compared with industrialized countries. We aimed to determine the epidemiology, microbiology, and outcome of severe pneumonia in PICUs across the Pediatric Acute and Critical Care Medicine Asian Network (PACCMAN). DESIGN: Prospective multicenter observational study from June 2020 to September 2022. SETTING: Fifteen PICUs in PACCMAN. PATIENTS: All children younger than 18 years old diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted to the PICU. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Clinical, microbiologic, and outcome data were recorded. The primary outcome was PICU mortality. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression was performed to investigate associations between PICU mortality and explanatory risk factors on presentation to the PICU. Among patients screened, 846 of 11,778 PICU patients (7.2%) with a median age of 1.2 years (interquartile range, 0.4-3.7 yr) had pneumonia. Respiratory syncytial virus was detected in 111 of 846 cases (13.1%). The most common bacteria were Staphylococcus species (71/846 [8.4%]) followed by Pseudomonas species (60/846 [7.1%]). Second-generation cephalosporins (322/846 [38.1%]) were the most common broad-spectrum antibiotics prescribed, followed by carbapenems (174/846 [20.6%]). Invasive mechanical ventilation and noninvasive respiratory support was provided in 438 of 846 (51.8%) and 500 of 846 (59.1%) patients, respectively. PICU mortality was 65 of 846 (7.7%). In the multivariable logistic regression model, age (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.08; 95% CI, 1.00-1.16), Pediatric Index of Mortality 3 score (aOR, 1.03; 95% CI, 1.02-1.05), and drowsiness (aOR, 2.73; 95% CI, 1.24-6.00) were associated with greater odds of mortality. CONCLUSIONS: In the PACCMAN contributing PICUs, pneumonia is a frequent cause for admission (7%) and is associated with a greater odds of mortality.

Cow milk is a major allergenic food. The potential prevention and treatment effects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB)-fermented dairy products on allergic symptoms have garnered considerable attention. Cow milk allergy (CMA) is mainly attributed to extracellular and/or cell envelope proteolytic enzymes with hydrolysis specificity. Numerous studies have demonstrated that LAB prevents the risk of allergies by modulating the development and regulation of the host immune system. Specifically, LAB and its effectors can enhance intestinal barrier function and affect immune cells by interfering with humoral and cellular immunity. Fermentation hydrolysis of allergenic epitopes is considered the main mechanism of reducing CMA. This article reviews the linear epitopes of allergens in cow milk and the effect of LAB on these allergens and provides insight into the means of predicting allergenic epitopes by conventional laboratory analysis methods combined with molecular simulation. Although LAB can reduce CMA in several ways, the mechanism of action remains partially clarified. Therefore, this review additionally attempts to summarize the main mechanism of LAB fermentation to provide guidance for establishing an effective preventive and treatment method for CMA and serve as a reference for the screening, research, and application of LAB-based intervention.

OBJECTIVES: This cross-sectional study aims to consider the potential classification of depression and anxiety symptoms among older women, and identify the influencing factors of this classification. METHODS: This study examines Chinese women aged 65 years and older. Latent class analysis was used to explore the mental health subgroups of older women, and multivariate logistic regression was employed to examine the influencing factors based on the health ecological model among these subgroups. RESULTS: The results helped classify this population under three subgroups: the coexistence of depression and anxiety group, dominated depression group, and the low symptoms group. Moreover, class differences in terms of age, residence, education, income, assessment of current life and health status, sleep duration, and health behaviors, such as alcohol use and exercise were noted. CONCLUSIONS: These findings explain the heterogeneity among older women, and help illuminate their unique aspects of mental health. Accordingly, they are significant for scholars and policymakers to understand depression and anxiety among older women.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the protective effect of different ratios of galactose oligosaccharide(GOS) and polydextrose(PDX) on intestinal cell barrier damage model of Caco-2. METHODS: The same batch of Caco-2 cells were cultured to form a cell barrier model and randomly divided into damaged model group without calcium, calcium-containing blank control group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)), low-ratio/low-dose group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)+2 mg/mL GOS+2 mg/mL PDX) and low-ratio/medium-dose group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)+4 mg/mL GOS+4 mg/mL PDX), low-ratio/high-dose group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)+8 mg/mL GOS+8 mg/mL PDX) and high-ratio/low-dose group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)+0.8 mg/mL GOS+3.2mg/mL PDX), high-ratio/medium-dose group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)+1.6 mg/mL GOS+6.4 mg/mL PDX), high-ratio/high-dose group(1.8 mmol/L Ca~(2+)+3.2mg/mL GOS+12.8 mg/mL PDX), a total of 8 groups, three parallel groups were performed in each group. The Trans Epithelial Electrical Resistance value and apparent permeability coefficient value of each group were determined after 4 d culture, and the morphology of tight junction proteins ZO-1, Occludin and Claudin-1 were observed by immunofluorescence method, and the expression levels of inflammatory related factors in each group were determined by protein microarray method. RESULTS: Compared with damaged model group, TEER ratio in calcium-containing blank control group was significantly increased(P<0.05), while Papp value was significantly decreased(P<0.05);Compared with calcium-containing blank control group, TEER ratio in low-ratio/medium-dose group and high-ratio/high-dose group was significantly increased(P<0.05) while Papp value was significantly decreased(P<0.05), and they could significantly down-regulate some inflammatory response related cytokines. The cell barrier was intact in all groups except for the compact junction protein structure in the model group. CONCLUSION: Compared with Ca~(2+) alone, the combination of two prebiotics can enhance the density of Caco-2 cell barrier and reduced the permeability of cell bypass. And it can significantly reduce the expression level of some inflammatory cytokines and effectively protect the intestinal cell barrier.

Crop domestication usually leads to the narrowing genetic diversity. However, human selection mainly focuses on visible traits, such as yield and plant morphology, with most metabolic changes being invisible to the naked eye. Buckwheat accumulates abundant bioactive substances, making it a dual-purpose crop with excellent nutritional and medical value. Therefore, examining the wiring of these invisible metabolites during domestication is of major importance. The comprehensive profiling of 200 Tartary buckwheat accessions exhibits 540 metabolites modified as a consequence of human selection. Metabolic genome-wide association study illustrates 384 mGWAS signals for 336 metabolites are under selection. Further analysis showed that an R2R3-MYB transcription factor FtMYB43 positively regulates the synthesis of procyanidin. Glycoside hydrolase gene FtSAGH1 is characterized as responsible for the release of active salicylic acid, the precursor of aspirin and indispensably in plant defence. UDP-glucosyltransferase gene FtUGT74L2 is characterized as involved in the glycosylation of emodin, a major medicinal component specific in Polygonaceae. The lower expression of FtSAGH1 and FtUGT74L2 were associated with the reduction of salicylic acid and soluble EmG owing to domestication. This first large-scale metabolome profiling in Tartary buckwheat will facilitate genetic improvement of medicinal properties and disease resistance in Tartary buckwheat.

Mercury (Hg) is a ubiquitous contaminant in the environment and its methylated form, methylmercury (MeHg), poses a worldwide health concern for humans and wildlife, primarily through fish consumption. Global production of forest fire ash, derived from wildfires and prescribed burns, is rapidly increasing due to a warming climate, but their interactions with aqueous and sedimentary Hg are poorly understood. Herein, we compared the differences of wildfire ash with activated carbon and biochar on the sorption of aqueous inorganic Hg and sedimentary Hg methylation. Sorption of aqueous inorganic Hg was greatest for wildfire ash materials (up to 0.21 µg g-1 or 2.2 µg g-1 C) among all of the solid sorbents evaluated. A similar Hg adsorption mechanism for activated carbon, biochar made of walnut, and wildfire ash was found that involves the formation of complexes between Hg and oxygen-containing functional groups, especially the -COO group. Notably, increasing dissolved organic matter from 2.4 to 70 mg C L-1 remarkably reduced Hg sorption (up to 40% reduction) and increased the time required to reach Hg-sorbent pseudo-equilibrium. Surprisingly, biochar and wildfire ash, but not activated carbon, stimulated MeHg production during anoxic sediment incubation, possibly due to the release of labile organic matter. Overall, our study indicates that while wildfire ash can sequester aqueous Hg, the leaching of its labile organic matter may promote production of toxic MeHg in anoxic sediments, which has an important implication for potential MeHg contamination in downstream aquatic ecosystems after wildfires.

BACKGROUND: Professional calling (PC) is crucial for ascertaining their professional goals and fulfilling career choices in nursing students. Thus, understanding its antecedents and helping schools improve PC among nursing students is critical. This study aims to explore whether professional identity (PI), as a crucial antecedent of PC, acts as an intermediary between career self-efficacy (CSE) and professional calling during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A sample of 565 nursing students were selected by a web-based survey through convenience sampling. The study was conducted from October to November 2020. Measures of CSE, PI, and PC were assessed during the COVID-19 pandemic. We analyzed demographic data and the correlation of the research variables. The significance of the mediation effect was assessed using a bootstrap method with SPSS. RESULTS: CSE during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak (r = 0. 359, p < 0. 01) and PI (r = 0. 670, p < 0. 01) were both relevant to PC among nursing students. In addition, CSE had a positive indirect effect on PC through PI (ß = 0. 288, p < 0. 05). CONCLUSIONS: Higher scores in CSE and a better PI were associated with PC in nursing students. Furthermore, a better CSE had an indirect effect on the PC of students through PI. The favorable evidence in our study confirms that nursing educators can adopt PI interventions to improve the sense of PC among nursing students.

Quality identification of multi-component mixtures is essential for production process control. Artificial sensory evaluation is a conventional quality evaluation method of multi-component mixture, which is easily affected by human subjective factors, and its results are inaccurate and unstable. This study developed a near-infrared (NIR) spectral characteristic extraction method based on a three-dimensional analysis space and establishes a high-accuracy qualitative identification model. First, the Norris derivative filtering algorithm was used in the pre-processing of the NIR spectrum to obtain a smooth main absorption peak. Then, the third-order tensor robust principal component analysis (TRPCA) algorithm was used for characteristic extraction, which effectively reduced the dimensionality of the raw NIR spectral data. Finally, on this basis, a qualitative identification model based on support vector machines (SVM) was constructed, and the classification accuracy reached 98.94%. Therefore, it is possible to develop a non-destructive, rapid qualitative detection system based on NIR spectroscopy to mine the subtle differences between classes and to use low-dimensional characteristic wavebands to detect the quality of complex multi-component mixtures. This method can be a key component of automatic quality control in the production of multi-component products.

Soil cadmium (Cd) contamination seriously reduces the production and product quality of Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum), and strategies are urgently needed to mitigate these adverse influences. Herein, we investigated the effect of salicylic acid (SA) on Tartary buckwheat seedlings grown in Cd-contaminated soil in terms of Cd tolerance and accumulation. The results showed that 75-100 µmol L-1 SA treatment enhanced the Cd tolerance of Tartary buckwheat, as reflected by the significant increase in plant height and root and shoot biomass, as well as largely mitigated oxidative stress. Moreover, 100 µmol L-1 SA considerably reduced the stem and leaf Cd concentration by 60% and 47%, respectively, which is a consequence of increased root biomass and root Cd retention with promoted Cd partitioning into cell wall and immobile chemical forms. Transcriptome analysis also revealed the upregulation of the genes responsible for cell wall biosynthesis and antioxidative activities in roots, especially secondary cell wall synthesis. The present study determines that 100 µmol L-1 is the best SA concentration for reducing Cd accumulation and toxicity in Tartary buckwheat and indicates the important role of root in Cd stress in this species.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose was to explore the alertness of premonitory symptoms in stroke patients with prehospital delay, and to analyze the influencing factors. DESIGN AND SAMPLE: A cross-sectional study using the convenience sampling method was conducted in the neurology department of a general hospital between November 2018 and July 2019. A total of 352 stroke patients were participated in the survey. MEASURES: A hierarchical multiple regression was performed to analyze the factors related to the alertness of premonitory symptoms (0-9 scores) in stroke patients with prehospital delay. RESULTS: The alertness score was 6.53 ± 2.377. The lowest score of 0.55 ± 0.498 was for "Continuous yawning occurs continuously despite no tiredness or lack of sleep is okay, and need not be treated." The hierarchical regression results revealed that symptom onset, symptom change before admission, knowledge, social support were the influencing factors delaying the alertness of premonitory symptoms. Knowledge and support from friends could improve the alertness, while support from family and other support had a notable negative impact. CONCLUSIONS: Stroke patients need to be more alert toward premonitory symptoms. This alertness is related to stroke knowledge and social support. Nurses should formulate interventions and advise stroke patients to improve their stroke knowledge and expand their social network.

This is the first investigation that identified seasonal variation, possible sources and health risk of 16 PAHs in street dust sampled park area (PA), educational area (EA), commercial area (CA), residential area (RA), and traffic area (TA) of Chengdu, one of the new first-tier cities in China. The total PAHs (∑16PAHs) concentrations of averaging over two seasons varied from 2.15 to 10.6 mg/kg with a median value of 4.61 mg/kg and in winter (5.48 ± 1.52 mg/kg) were significantly higher than that in summer (4.04 ± 0.91 mg/kg). The highest ∑16PAHs concentration was found in TA (median 6.74 mg/kg). Statistical analysis results indicated that mixture sources of petroleum combustion and combustion of biomass and coal seem to be the primary source of the PAHs in street dust. Carcinogenic risk by incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) model for PAHs in street dust indicates an acceptable potential cancer risk for residents. The same sequences of cancer risk to be observed for both children and adults among different functional areas: TA > CA > EA > RA > PA. The results provided advice for habitants in Chengdu to encourage outdoor activities in parks and residential areas and minimize traffic areas and commercial areas.

To investigate the role of miR-4301 in rotavirus (RV)-infected Caco-2 cells. In this experiment, RNAs of RV-infected Caco-2 cells were extracted, and the high-throughput second-generation sequencing was performed to detect the expression profiles of host microRNAs (miRNAs). Synthetic miRNA mimics and inhibitors were examined (quantitative polymerase chain reaction [qPCR], crystalline violet, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy) to evaluate the effect on RV replication. Target genes of miR-4301 were predicted by software analysis. The expression of target genes was evaluated by qPCR and Western blot after transfected with miRNA inhibitor/mimic, and crystalline violet and qPCR were used to detect the downregulation effects of target genes on RV replication. By transfecting miRNA inhibitors/mimics and detecting downstream target genes, the mechanism of miRNA affecting RV replication was analyzed. There were 78 known miRNAs with significant differential expression, including 39 upregulated miRNAs and 39 downregulated miRNAs. The results showed that miR-4301 exerted a key role in enhancing RV replication. PPP1R3D protein which can inhibit RV replication was predicted as the target gene of miR-4301 by software analysis. While upregulating miR-4301 by RV, the expression of PPP1R3D and glycogen synthase (GS) is suppressed. For the first time, the effect of miR-4301 on RV infection, and its influence on GS was investigated. Specifically, RV inhibits host cell glycogen synthesis to utilize the host intracellular glucose for promoting its own replication.

BACKGROUND: Poststroke depression is common and includes depressive and somatic symptoms. However, few studies have confirmed the influence of family functioning on poststroke depression or explored the association among daily activities, family functioning, and poststroke depression. OBJECTIVES: We examined the independent risk factors of daily activities and family functioning for poststroke depression and identified the mediating effect of family functioning on the association between daily activities and poststroke depression. METHODS: This cross-sectional study design used convenience sampling to recruit 422 stroke survivors from the neurology department of a hospital in Harbin, China, from February to July 2018. We assessed participants' demographic and clinical variables, including depression, daily activities, and family functioning. Pearson's correlations and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted, and a path analysis with bootstrapping was utilized to define direct/indirect effects. RESULTS: Daily activities and family functioning had a significant and direct negative effect on participants' depression. The indirect effect of 1,000 bootstrap samples after bias correction with a 95% confidence interval was below zero, indicating that family function had a significant mediating effect on the association between depression and daily activities. DISCUSSION: This study revealed the importance of family functioning in the association between depression and daily activities in stroke survivors. To the best of our knowledge, this study was the first to explore the mediating role of family functioning in poststroke depression, emphasizing the importance of family for the mental health of stroke patients. To reduce the incidence of poststroke depression, interventions that enhance daily activities and family functioning may include nurses, family therapists, rehabilitation physicians, and community workers.

ABSTRACT: We herein describe a pediatric case of bilateral morning glory anomaly whose retrobulbar cysts and renal disease were underdiagnosed, and finally, he was diagnosed with renal coloboma syndrome. We recommend patients with colobomatous optic nerve malformations undergo a complete workup to avoid missed diagnosis, which includes (i) general physical examination looking for heart defects, genitourinary, auricular, and midline facial defects among other abnormalities; (ii) simple nephrologic investigations such as routine urine test and/or renal ultrasound to check for renal hypoplasia; and (iii) neuroimaging check for cerebrovascular anomalies and midline cranial defects. Genetic testing can be a useful tool to guide the workup.

The activities of ß-galactosidases from bacteria and molds are affected by temperature, pH, and other factors in the processing of dairy products, limiting their application, so it is necessary to find alternative lactases. In this study, the ß-galactosidase gene from Bacillus coagulans T242 was cloned, co-expressed with a molecular chaperone in Escherichia coli BL21, and subjected to bioinformatic and kinetic analyses and lactase characterization. The results show that the enzyme is a novel thermostable neutral lactase with optimum hydrolytic activity at pH 6.8 and 50°C. The thermal stability and increased lactose hydrolysis activity of ß-galactosidase in the presence of Ca2+ indicated its potential application in the dairy industry.

Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) spent catalysts are the most common catalysts produced by the petroleum refining industry in China. The National Hazardous Waste List (2016 edition) lists FCC spent catalysts as hazardous waste, but this listing is very controversial in the petroleum refining industry. This study collects samples of waste catalysts from seven domestic catalytic cracking units without antimony-based passivation agents and identifies their hazardous characteristics. FCC spent catalysts do not have the characteristics of flammability, corrosiveness, reactivity, or infectivity. Based on our analysis of the components and production process of the FCC spent catalysts, we focused on the hazardous characteristic of toxicity. Our results show that the leaching toxicity of the heavy metal pollutants nickel, copper, lead, and zinc in the FCC spent catalyst samples did not exceed the hazardous waste identification standards. Assuming that the standards for antimony and vanadium leachate are 100 times higher than that of the surface water and groundwater environmental quality standards, the leaching concentration of antimony and vanadium in the FCC spent catalyst of the G set of installations exceeds the standard, which may affect the environmental quality of surface water or groundwater. The quantities of toxic substances in all spent FCC catalysts, except those from G2, does not exceed the standard. The acute toxicity of FCC spent catalysts in all installations does not exceed the standard. Therefore, we exclude "waste catalysts from catalytic cracking units without antimony-based passivating agent passivation nickel agent" from the "National Hazardous Waste List."

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a group visit intervention in comparison with the usual care for elderly patients with type 2 diabetes in a community. We randomized 109 community elderly patients with type 2 diabetes to the intervention group (n = 55) of monthly group visits sessions or to a control group (n = 54) of usual care. Repeated measures analysis of variance was used to compare the changes in HbA1C, diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-management behavior in both groups. At the 6-month follow-up, although no significant difference was observed between the groups regarding HbA1C (p = 0.272). Diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy and self-management scores were higher in patients in the intervention group than that in the control group (p < 0.05). The group visits model increased diabetes knowledge and self-efficacy and improved patients' self-management behavior. The model was found suitable for helping these elderly patients with type 2 diabetes achieve effective self-management.
