RESUMO

SignificanceThe Ice-Free Corridor (IFC) has long played a key role in hypotheses about the peopling of the Americas. Earlier assessments of its age suggested that the IFC was available for a Clovis-first migration, but subsequent developments now suggest a pre-Clovis occupation of the Americas that occurred before the opening of the IFC, thus supporting a Pacific coastal migration route instead. However, large uncertainties in existing ages from the IFC cannot preclude its availability as a route for the first migrations. Resolving this debate over migration route is important for addressing the questions of when and how the first Americans arrived. We report cosmogenic nuclide exposure ages that show that the final opening of the IFC occurred well after pre-Clovis occupation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Forests are essential for maintaining species diversity, stabilizing local and global climate, and providing ecosystem services. Exploring the impact of paleogeographic events and climate change on the genetic structure and distribution dynamics of forest keystone species could help predict responses to future climate change. In this study, we combined an ensemble species distribution model (eSDM) and multilocus phylogeography to investigate the spatial genetic patterns and distribution change of Quercus glauca Thunb, a keystone of East Asian subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest. RESULTS: A total of 781 samples were collected from 77 populations, largely covering the natural distribution of Q. glauca. The eSDM showed that the suitable habitat experienced a significant expansion after the last glacial maximum (LGM) but will recede in the future under a general climate warming scenario. The distribution centroid will migrate toward the northeast as the climate warms. Using nuclear SSR data, two distinct lineages split between east and west were detected. Within-group genetic differentiation was higher in the West than in the East. Based on the identified 58 haplotypes, no clear phylogeographic structure was found. Populations in the Nanling Mountains, Wuyi Mountains, and the southwest region were found to have high genetic diversity. CONCLUSIONS: A significant negative correlation between habitat stability and heterozygosity might be explained by the mixing of different lineages in the expansion region after LGM and/or hybridization between Q. glauca and closely related species. The Nanling Mountains may be important for organisms as a dispersal corridor in the west-east direction and as a refugium during the glacial period. This study provided new insights into spatial genetic patterns and distribution dynamics of Q. glauca.

RESUMO

Communities interspersed throughout the Canadian wildland are threatened by fires that have become bigger and more frequent in some parts of the country in recent decades. Identifying the fireshed (source area) and pathways from which wildland fire may ignite and spread from the landscape to a community is crucial for risk-reduction strategy and planning. We used outputs from a fire simulation model, including fire polygons and rate of spread, to map firesheds, fire pathways and corridors and spread distances for 1980 communities in the forested areas of Canada. We found fireshed sizes are larger in the north, where the mean distances between ecumene and fireshed perimeters were greater than 10 km. The Rayleigh Z test indicated that simulated fires around a large proportion of communities show significant directional trends, and these trends are stronger in the Boreal Plains and Shields than in the Rocky Mountain area. The average distance from which fire, when spreading at the maximum simulated rate, could reach the community perimeter was approximately 5, 12 and 18 km in 1, 2 and 3 days, respectively. The average daily spread distances increased latitudinally, from south to north. Spread distances were the shortest in the Pacific Maritime, Atlantic Maritime and Boreal Plains Ecozones, implying lower rates of spread compared to the rest of the country. The fire corridors generated from random ignitions and from ignitions predicted from local fire history differ, indicating that factors other than fuel (e.g. fire weather, ignition pattern) play a significant role in determining the direction that fires burn into a community.

RESUMO

Volatility of organic aerosols (OAs) significantly influences new particle formation and the occurrence of particulate air pollution. However, the relationship between the volatility of OA and the level of particulate air pollution (i.e., particulate matter concentration) is not well understood. In this study, we compared the chemical composition (identified by an ultrahigh-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometer) and volatility (estimated based on a predeveloped parametrization method) of OAs in urban PM2.5 (particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter ≤ 2.5 µm) samples from seven German and Chinese cities, where the PM2.5 concentration ranged from a light (14 µg m-3) to heavy (319 µg m-3) pollution level. A large fraction (71-98%) of compounds in PM2.5 samples were attributable to intermediate-volatility organic compounds (IVOCs) and semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs). The fraction of low-volatility organic compounds (LVOCs) and extremely low-volatility organic compounds (ELVOCs) decreased from clean (28%) to heavily polluted urban regions (2%), while that of IVOCs increased from 34 to 62%. We found that the average peak area-weighted volatility of organic compounds in different cities showed a logarithmic correlation with the average PM2.5 concentration, indicating that the volatility of urban OAs increases with the increase of air pollution level. Our results provide new insights into the relationship between OA volatility and PM pollution levels and deepen the understanding of urban air pollutant evolution.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The primary aim of this study was to describe the feasibility, surgical approach window (SAW), and incision line (IL) for oblique lateral interbody fusion at L5-S1 (OLIF51) using computed tomography (CT). A secondary aim was to identify associations among approach characteristics and demographic and anthropometric factors. METHODS: We performed a radiographic study of 50 male and 50 female subjects who received abdominal CT imaging. SAW was measured as the distance from the midline to the medial border of the iliac vessel. IL was measured at the skin surface corresponding to the distance between the center of the disc space and SAW lateral margin. OLIF51 feasibility was defined as the existence of at least a 1-cm SAW without retraction of soft tissues. RESULTS: For the left side, the OLIF51 SAW and IL were 12.1 ± 4.6 and 175.1 ± 55.3 mm. For the right side, these measures were 10.0 ± 4.3 and 185.0 ± 52.5 mm. Correlations of r = 0.648 (p < 0.001) and r = 0.656 (p < 0.001) were observed between weight and IL on the left and right sides, respectively. OLIF51 was not feasible 23% of the time. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the largest CT study to determine the feasibility of performing an OLIF51. Without the use of retraction, OLIF51 is not feasible 23% of the time. Left-sided OLIF51 allows for a larger surgical approach window and smaller incision compared to the right side. Larger incisions are required for adequate surgical exposure in patients with higher weight.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The minimally invasive oblique lumbar interbody fusion (MI-OLIF) L5-S1 was introduced to overcome the limitations of conventional fusion techniques, however, MI-OLIF is not possible using the standard method due to vascular structures in some cases. We aimed to introduce the "lateral corridor" and report the details of the surgical technique with a clinical case series. METHODS: We utilized the lateral access route of the left common iliac vein and named it the "lateral corridor", to distinguish the technique from the standard technique (central corridor). The type and frequency of branch vessels that required additional manipulations were reviewed, and the frequency of intraoperative vascular injury was investigated. RESULTS: Among the 107 patients who underwent MI-OLIF L5-S1, 26 patients (24.3%) who received the "lateral corridor" technique were included. Branch vessel ligation was required in 42.3% of the patients. The types of branch vessels that required ligation were seven cases (26.9%) of the iliolumbar vein (ILV) and six cases (23.1%) of ascending lumbar vein (ALV). The ILV and ALV were ligated in two cases. None of the patients developed intraoperative vascular injuries. CONCLUSION: We introduced the "lateral corridor" as an alternative approach for MI-OLIF L5-S1, implemented it in 24.3% of the patient cohort, and reported favorable outcomes devoid of vascular complications. The "lateral corridor" necessitated ligation of the ILV or ALV in 42.3% of cases. The "lateral corridor" approach appears to be a promising surgical technique, offering feasibility even in instances where the vascular anatomy precludes the employment of the conventional approach.

RESUMO

Semantic segmentation of target objects in power transmission line corridor point cloud scenes is a crucial step in powerline tree barrier detection. The massive quantity, disordered distribution, and non-uniformity of point clouds in power transmission line corridor scenes pose significant challenges for feature extraction. Previous studies have often overlooked the core utilization of spatial information, limiting the network's ability to understand complex geometric shapes. To overcome this limitation, this paper focuses on enhancing the deep expression of spatial geometric information in segmentation networks and proposes a method called BDF-Net to improve RandLA-Net. For each input 3D point cloud data, BDF-Net first encodes the relative coordinates and relative distance information into spatial geometric feature representations through the Spatial Information Encoding block to capture the local spatial structure of the point cloud data. Subsequently, the Bilinear Pooling block effectively combines the feature information of the point cloud with the spatial geometric representation by leveraging its bilinear interaction capability thus learning more discriminative local feature descriptors. The Global Feature Extraction block captures the global structure information in the point cloud data by using the ratio between the point position and the relative position, so as to enhance the semantic understanding ability of the network. In order to verify the performance of BDF-Net, this paper constructs a dataset, PPCD, for the point cloud scenario of transmission line corridors and conducts detailed experiments on it. The experimental results show that BDF-Net achieves significant performance improvements in various evaluation metrics, specifically achieving an OA of 97.16%, a mIoU of 77.48%, and a mAcc of 87.6%, which are 3.03%, 16.23%, and 18.44% higher than RandLA-Net, respectively. Moreover, comparisons with other state-of-the-art methods also verify the superiority of BDF-Net in point cloud semantic segmentation tasks.

RESUMO

Hydrological connectivity is crucial for the healthy operation of wetland ecosystems. However, the current design of ecological corridors in wetland biodiversity networks is mostly based on species migration resistance, neglecting the important role of hydrological connectivity. How to incorporate hydrological connectivity into the wetland ecological corridor system (ECS) is still unclear. To answer the question, we proposed a framework for constructing a wetland ECS with the goal of improving conservation value of previously identified wetland biodiversity hotspots based on hydrological connectivity. In the proposed framework, we clarified the function-level-dimension of each corridor based on the dynamics of conservation value of biodiversity hotspots, the hierarchical classification of rivers and the dimension of hydrological connectivity. Then we determined the spatial distribution and functional zoning of the corridors by least cost model (LCM) using indicators that reflect wetland hydrological connectivity resistance, including water coverage, water use efficiency of vegetation, and land use suitability. The results are as follows: (1) to improve the overall hydrological connectivity and conservation value of biodiversity hotspots, 25 corridors should be constructed for vertical hydrological connectivity (with 3 for maintaining the status quo, 6 for improving and 16 for restoring connectivity) and 3 corridors should be constructed for lateral hydrological connectivity; (2) total area of all corridors are 11 km2, accounting for 6.79% of the study area (2.47% of core zone and 4.32% of buffer zone); (3) low suitability areas of hydrological vegetation gradient (HVG) are the most extensive, followed by low suitability areas of land use/cover change (LUCC) and the average fraction coverage of water surface (AFCW), accounting for 65.08%, 47.87% and 6.76% of the corridor coverage, respectively. The proposed framework of constructing wetland ECS in this study has the potential to provide the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and sustainable development goals with specific technical support and more targeted-control strategies for building a hydrological connected wetland biodiversity network.

RESUMO

Urban infrastructure, important for societal functioning, faces challenges from aging assets and increasing service demands. Traditional asset management practices, often conducted in silos, fail to address the interconnected nature of these systems, leading to inefficiencies and heightened system failure risks. This article combines the spatial and temporal aspects of sewer, water, and road networks to facilitate integrated interventions and enable informed decision-making among diverse stakeholders. The outcome of this research is the creation of interactive hotspot maps on a unified platform, highlighting potential areas for integrated intervention across different infrastructures. To enhance the potential for collaboration in integrated interventions, flexibility in intervention planning was incorporated. With increased flexibility in intervention decisions, the potential for collaboration also increased. For the case study, introducing a 5-year intervention flexibility increased the number of collaborative projects between sewer, water, and roads from 0 to 18. The maps can also indicate areas where the application of trenchless technologies are justifiable. Other important information on asset characteristics for the decision-makers, including age, inspection, deterioration, and other relevant spatial and temporal details can also be obtained from the maps. The presented methodology and findings provide practical solution for utilities to manage urban infrastructure networks more efficiently.

RESUMO

Background and Objectives: As the oblique lateral interbody fusion at L5/S1 (OLIF51) and the lateral corridor approach (LCA) have gained popularity, an understanding of the precise vascular structure at the L5/S1 level is indispensable. The objectives of this study were to investigate the vascular anatomy at the L5/S1 level, and to compare the movement of vascular tissue between the supine and lateral decubitus positions using intraoperative enhanced CT and MRI. Materials and Methods: A total of 43 patients who underwent either OLIF51 or LCA were investigated with an average age at surgery of 60.4 (37-80) years old. The preoperative MRI was taken to observe the axial and sagittal anatomy of the vascular position under the supine position. The intraoperative vein-enhanced CT was taken just before incision in the right decubitus position, and compared to supine MRI anatomy. Iliolumbar vein appearance and its types were also classified. Results: The average vascular window allowed for OLIF51 was 22.8 mm and 34.1 mm at either the L5 caudal endplate level or the S1 cephalad endplate level, respectively. The LCA was 14.2 mm and 12.6 mm at either level, respectively. The left common iliac vein moved 3.8 mm and 6.9 mm to the right direction at either level from supine to the right decubitus position, respectively. The bifurcation moved 6.3 mm to the caudal direction from supine to right decubitus. The iliolumbar vein was located at 31 mm laterally from the midline, and the MRI detection rate was 52%. Conclusions: The precise measurement of vascular anatomy indicated that the OLIF51 approach was the standard minimally invasive anterior approach for the L5/S1 disc level compared to LCA; however, there were many variations in quantitative anatomy as well as significant vascular movements between the supine and right decubitus positions. In the clinical setting of OLIF51 and LCA surgeries, careful preoperative evaluation and intraoperative 3D imaging are recommended for safe and accurate surgery.

RESUMO

Sino-Tibetan is the most prominent language family in East Asia. Previous genetic studies mainly focused on the Tibetan and Han Chinese populations. However, due to the sparse sampling, the genetic structure and admixture history of Tibeto-Burman-speaking populations in the low-altitude region of Southwest China still need to be clarified. We collected DNA from 157 individuals from four Tibeto-Burman-speaking groups from the Guizhou province in Southwest China. We genotyped the samples at about 700,000 genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms. Our results indicate that the genetic variation of the four Tibeto-Burman-speaking groups in Guizhou is at the intermediate position in the modern Tibetan-Tai-Kadai/Austronesian genetic cline. This suggests that the formation of Tibetan-Burman groups involved a large-scale gene flow from lowland southern Chinese. The southern ancestry could be further modelled as deriving from Vietnam's Late Neolithic-related inland Southeast Asia agricultural populations and Taiwan's Iron Age-related coastal rice-farming populations. Compared to the Tibeto-Burman speakers in the Tibetan-Yi Corridor reported previously, the Tibeto-Burman groups in the Guizhou region received additional gene flow from the southeast coastal area of China. We show a difference between the genetic profiles of the Tibeto-Burman speakers of the Tibetan-Yi Corridor and the Guizhou province. Vast mountain ranges and rivers in Southwest China may have decelerated the westward expansion of the southeast coastal East Asians. Our results demonstrate the complex genetic profile in the Guizhou region in Southwest China and support the multiple waves of human migration in the southern area of East Asia.

RESUMO

Temperature is a fundamental driver of species' vital rates and thus coexistence, extinctions and community composition. While temperature is neither static in space nor in time, little work has incorporated spatiotemporal dynamics into community-level investigations of thermal variation. We conducted a microcosm experiment using ciliate protozoa to test the effects of temperatures fluctuating synchronously or asynchronously on communities in two-patch landscapes connected by short or long corridors. We monitored the abundance of each species for 4 weeks-equivalent to ~28 generations-measuring the effects of four temperature regimes and two corridor lengths on community diversity and composition. While corridor length significantly altered the trajectory of diversity change in the communities, this did not result in different community structures at the end of the experiment. The type of thermal variation significantly affected both the temporal dynamics of diversity change and final community composition, with synchronous fluctuation causing deterministic extinctions that were consistent across replicates and spatial variation causing the greatest diversity declines. Our results suggest that the presence and type of thermal variation can play an important role in structuring ecological communities, especially when it interacts with dispersal between habitat patches.

RESUMO

Hyporheic zones (HZs)─zones of groundwater-surface water mixing─are hotspots for dissolved organic matter (DOM) and nutrient cycling that can disproportionately impact aquatic ecosystem functions. However, the mechanisms affecting DOM metabolism through space and time in HZs remain poorly understood. To resolve this gap, we investigate a recently proposed theory describing trade-offs between carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) limitations as a key regulator of HZ metabolism. We propose that throughout the extent of the HZ, a single process like aerobic respiration (AR) can be limited by both DOM thermodynamics and N content due to highly variable C/N ratios over short distances (centimeter scale). To investigate this theory, we used a large flume, continuous optode measurements of dissolved oxygen (DO), and spatially and temporally resolved molecular analysis of DOM. Carbon and N limitations were inferred from changes in the elemental stoichiometric ratio. We show sequential, depth-stratified relationships of DO with DOM thermodynamics and organic N that change across centimeter scales. In the shallow HZ with low C/N, DO was associated with the thermodynamics of DOM, while deeper in the HZ with higher C/N, DO was associated with inferred biochemical reactions involving organic N. Collectively, our results suggest that there are multiple competing processes that limit AR in the HZ. Resolving this spatiotemporal variation could improve predictions from mechanistic models, either via more highly resolved grid cells or by representing AR colimitation by DOM thermodynamics and organic N.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The African Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) corridor, which spans from Ethiopia down to South Africa, is an esophageal cancer hotspot. Disproportionately high incidence and mortality rates of esophageal cancer have been reported from this region. The aim of this study was to systematically assess the evidence on environmental and life-style risk factors associated with ESCC in African populations. METHODS: We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and carried out a comprehensive search of all African published studies up to March 2023 using PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and African Index Medicus databases. RESULTS: We identified 45 studies with measures of association [odds ratio (OR), relative risk (RR), and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI)], which reported on several environmental and lifestyle risk factors for ESCC in Africa. We performed a meta-analysis on 38 studies investigating tobacco, alcohol use, combined tobacco and alcohol use, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure, hot food and beverages consumption (which served as a proxy for esophageal injury through exposure to high temperature), and poor oral health. We found significant associations between all the risk factors and ESCC development. Analysis of fruit and vegetable consumption showed a protective effect. Using population attributable fraction (PAF) analysis, we calculated the proportion of ESCC attributable to tobacco (18%), alcohol use (12%), combined tobacco and alcohol use (18%), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure (12%), hot food and beverages intake (16%), poor oral health (37%), and fruit and vegetable consumption (-12%). CONCLUSIONS: Tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption were the most studied risk factors overall. Areas where there is an emerging body of evidence include hot food and beverages and oral health. Concurrently, new avenues of research are also emerging in PAH exposure, and diet as risk factors. Our results point to a multifactorial etiology of ESCC in African populations with further evidence on prevention potential.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of postural changes on access for the OLIF of L2 to L5 in patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis. METHODS: Twenty-one individuals with degenerative lumbar scoliosis were chosen at random, 11 with left-sided convexity and 10 with left-sided concavity. Axial T2-weighted images were used to measure the following variables: (1) the distance between the left psoas major muscle and the abdominal aorta; (2) the angle of the surgical access; (3) the distance between the psoas major muscle attachment point and the vertebral body's transverse axis; (4) the region of the psoas major muscle above the vertebrae; and (5) the width-to-thickness ratio. A statistical analysis of the measured parameters was done. RESULTS: The L2-5 segment in the supine position had a significantly longer window distance in the left convex and left concave groups than in the right lateral recumbent posture (P < 0.05). In all segments, the left concave group outperformed the left convex group, which was substantially higher in the right lateral recumbent posture than in the supine position (P < 0.05). After the position change, the spanning area was significantly higher compared to the same segment in the supine position. The psoas major muscle's morphology was stretched. CONCLUSIONS: The right lateral recumbent position limits access to OLIF for degenerative lumbar scoliosis, and the "safety window" for OLIF operation in the parietal region is smaller in the left convex group compared to the left concave group, posing a higher risk of intraoperative vascular and neurological injury.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The primary aim was to measure the safe corridor (SC), surgical incision anterior margin (AM), and posterior margin (PM) for OLIF bilaterally from L1 to L5. The secondary aim was to determine the feasibility of approach via the SC. The tertiary aim was to analyze the influence of demographic and anthropometric factors on OLIF parameters. METHODS: We performed a radiographic analysis of 100 subjects who received an abdominal CT. Measurements of the AM, PM, and SC were obtained as well as patient age, sex, height, weight, and BMI. The intraclass correlation coefficient was used to evaluate interrater reliability. To assess associations among variables, Pearson's correlation tests and multivariate linear regression models were constructed. Sex differences were analyzed using Student's t tests. RESULTS: At L1-2, L2-3, L3-4, and L4-5, the PM was 6.6, 8.2, 9.4, and 10.2 cm on the left side and 7.2, 7.7, 8.8, and 9.5 cm on the right side in relation to the disk space center. The SC was less than 1 cm 1%, 3%,3%, and 18% of the time on the left side, and 15%, 12%,29%, and 60% on the right side. None of the anthropometric factors demonstrated a strong correlation with incision location. SC was larger on the left side. Interrater ICC was .934. CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first to provide guidelines on the appropriate location of the incision line during OLIF based on SC from L1 to L5. SC measurements do not vary by sex. OLIF is more feasible via a left-sided approach.

RESUMO

The craniocervical junction refers to an area from the line separating the middle and lower third of the clivus to the base of the dens (anteriorly) and from the posterior edge of the occipital foramen to the spinous process of C2 (posteriorly). Here, the clival region is a challenging surgical target surrounded by a complex neurovascular architecture. Historically, mainly the complex, and high-risk, transmucosal approaches have been the corridors of choice when targeting this region. Nevertheless, the inherent broad anatomic and pathological variants have shown the need for more-malleable and wider approaches. Thus, MacAfee's established retropharyngeal approach has been simplified in parallel to the application of endoscopic surgery, therefore providing access to the clival region through a low-risk retropharyngeal space when compared to homologous anterior transmucosal approaches. The following review analyzes the literature that has specifically described the craniocervical junction after reaching the clivus (or at least after odontoidectomy) through the retropharyngeal corridor, from the perspective of the open approach or the endoscopic submandibular approach.

RESUMO

Contradictory interpretations of transient storage modeling (TSM) results of past studies hamper the understanding of how hydrologic conditions control solute transport in streams. To address this issue, we conduct 30 instantaneous tracer experiments in the Weierbach stream, Luxembourg. Using an iterative modeling approach, we calibrate TSM parameters and assess their identifiability across various hydrologic conditions. Near-stream groundwater monitoring wells and LIDAR scans of the streambed are used to evaluate the area of the hyporheic zone and of the submerged sediments for each experiment. Our findings show that increasing discharge enhances parameters interaction requiring more samples of TSM parameters to obtain identifiable results. Our results also indicate that transient storage at the study site is influenced by in-stream and hyporheic exchange processes during low discharge, likely due to the hyporheic zone's large extent and the relatively low water level compared to the size of slate fragments on the streambed. However, as discharge increases, in-stream storage zones become part of the advective channel and the lower localized stream water losses to the adjacent groundwater suggests a decrease of the hyporheic exchange on transient storage. The results obtained were utilized to generate a hydrograph for the study site illustrating the dynamic evolution of in-stream and hyporheic storage with varying discharge, providing insights into the expected influence of different transient storage processes prior to tracer experiments. Overall, our study enhances the understanding of the role of the hyporheic area and in-stream storage zones in transient storage and helps estimate TSM parameters more accurately.

RESUMO

This paper presents a depth-based hybrid method to generate safe flight corridors for a memoryless local navigation planner. It is first proposed to use raw depth images as inputs in the learning-based object-detection engine with no requirement for map fusion. We then employ an object-detection network to directly predict the base of polyhedral safe corridors in a new raw depth image. Furthermore, we apply a verification procedure to eliminate any false predictions so that the resulting collision-free corridors are guaranteed. More importantly, the proposed mechanism helps produce separate safe corridors with minimal overlap that are suitable to be used as space boundaries for path planning. The average intersection of union (IoU) of corridors obtained by the proposed algorithm is less than 2%. To evaluate the effectiveness of our method, we incorporated it into a memoryless planner with a straight-line path-planning algorithm. We then tested the entire system in both synthetic and real-world obstacle-dense environments. The obtained results with very high success rates demonstrate that the proposed approach is highly capable of producing safe corridors for memoryless local planning.

RESUMO

In this work, we present power and quality measurements of four transmissions using different emission technologies in an indoor environment, specifically a corridor, at the frequency of 868 MHz under two non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions. A narrowband (NB) continuous wave (CW) signal has been transmitted, and its received power has been measured with a spectrum analyzer, LoRa and Zigbee signals have also been transmitted, and their Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and bit error rate (BER) have been measured using the transceivers themselves; finally, a 20 MHz bandwidth 5G QPSK signal has also been transmitted and their quality parameters, such as SS-RSRP, SS-RSRQ and SS-RINR, have been measured using a SA. Thereafter, two fitting models, the Close-in (CI) model and the Floating-Intercept (FI) model, were used to analyze the path loss. The results show that slopes below 2 for the NLOS-1 zone and above 3 for the NLOS-2 zone have been found. Moreover, the CI and FI model behave very similarly in the NLOS-1 zone, while in the NLOS-2 zone, the CI model has poor accuracy in contrast to the FI model, which achieves the best accuracy in both NLOS situations. From these models, the power predicted with the FI model has been correlated with the measured BER value, and power margins have been established for which LoRa and Zigbee would each reach a BER greater than 5%; likewise, -18 dB has been established for the SS-RSRQ of 5G transmission.
