BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the related influencing factors of neuropathic pain (NP) in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: Patients diagnosed with SCI between January 2016 and December 2019 in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, were screened for NP by using the Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) questionnaire. A total of 133 patients diagnosed with SCI with NP were finally included in the study. We collected the patients' basic information, including gender, age, body mass index (BMI), disease course, injury segment, American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) grade, occupation, educational level, whether painkillers were used, stability of economic support, and pain level. Univariate and multiple ordered logistic regression analyses were used to examine the influencing factors of NP in the patients with SCI. RESULTS: The chi-square test revealed that disease course, injury level, severity of SCI (ASIA classification), stable economic support during hospitalization, and the use of painkillers had statistical significance (p < .01). A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the influencing factors of NP. ASIA grade, stable economic support, and use of painkillers were independent influencing factors of NP in patients with SCI, among which injury severity was the independent risk factor (odds ratio [OR] > 1). Stable economic support and painkiller use were protective factors (OR < 1). CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we found no significant correlation between NP after SCI and sex, age, BMI, disease course, injury level, and occupation. However, the injury severity was an independent risk factor, and stable economic support and painkiller use were protective factors.

BACKGROUND: Dual-plane breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure. However, objective evaluations on the effects of dual-plane breast augmentation on breast morphology are lacking. This study evaluated the breast morphological changes and correlative factors after dual-plane anatomic implant augmentation with a periareolar incision via a Vectra 3-dimensional (3D) scanning technique. METHODS: The dynamic changes in linear distance, breast projection, nipple position, and breast volume and surface over time (preoperatively; 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after surgery) were analyzed in 21 patients with the Vectra 3D scanning technique. In another group of 65 patients, the influence of the implant parameters and tissue characteristics of the patients on breast morphological changes were evaluated. RESULTS: The breast measurements changed significantly up to 6 months postoperatively and remained stable thereafter. The inframammary fold dropped by 0.8 cm at 1 month postoperatively and by 0.5 cm in the following 11 months. The preoperative implant volume and a lower pole skin elasticity lead to an increase in the nipple-to-inframammary fold distance. Compared with the expected values, the final volume was 10.9% smaller, and the projection was 25% smaller. Both the reduced volume and projection were correlated with the implant parameters and preoperative values. The nipple level was slightly elevated by approximately 0.8 cm. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides objective information regarding the breast morphological changes and correlative factors after dual-plane breast augmentation. These information may help to further understand the operation effects of dual-plane breast augmentation and to guide medical practice. Introduction: This study explored the correlative factors of falls among the older adult with cognitive impairment, to provide distinct evidence for preventing falls in the older adult with cognitive impairment compared with the general older adult population. Methods: This study was based on a cross-sectional survey, with an older adult population of 124,124 was included. The data was sourced from the Elderly Care Unified Needs Assessment for Long-Term Care Insurance in Shanghai. Binary and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted sequentially on the correlative factors of falls. Multivariable logistic regression was performed on variables that were significant, stratified by cognitive function levels. Results: The incidence of fall in the past 90 days was 17.67% in this study. Specific variables such as gender (male), advanced age (≥80), residence with a elevator (or lift), mild or moderate disability, quality of sleep (acceptable/poor) were negatively correlated with falls, while higher education level, living alone, residence with indoor steps, unclean and untidy living environment, MCI or dementia, chronic diseases, restricted joints, impaired vision, and the use of diaper were positively correlative factors of falls. Comparing with older adult with normal cognitive functions, older adult with dementia faced a higher risk of falling due to accessibility barrier in the residence. For general older adults, less frequency of going outside and poor social interactions were positively correlated with falls, while for older adult with cognitive impairments, going outside moderately (sometimes) was found positively correlated with falls. Older adults with cognitive impairments have increased fall risks associated with chronic diseases, restricted joints, and the use of diaper. The risk of falling escalated with the greater number of chronic diseases. Discussion: For older adult with cognitive impairments, it is advisable to live with others. Additionally, creating an accessible living environment and maintaining the cleanness and tidiness can effectively reduce the risk of falls, particularly for those with MCI or dementia. Optimal outdoor activity plans should be developed separately based on the cognitive function of older adults. Older adult with dementia who have comorbidities should be paid special attention in fall prevention compared to the general older adult population.

The waning of maternal antibodies may cause infants to lose protection against measles before receiving measles-containing vaccine (MCV). The aim of this study is to investigate the changing characteristics and influencing factors of measles antibodies in preterm infants (PT), and to provide scientific basis for optimizing MCV vaccination strategy of the target population. Blood samples were collected from PT and full-term infants (FT) at the chronological age (CA) of 3, 6, and 12 months. Measles antibodies were quantitatively detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Demographic and vaccination information were both collected. Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test was used to compare the measles antibodies among different gestation age (GA) groups, and multiple linear regression was performed to identify the correlative factors for the antibodies. Measles antibodies of PT decreased significantly with age increasing before MCV vaccination. The positive rates of antibodies of PT were 10.80% and 3.30% at the age of 3 and 6 months, respectively (p < .001). At 12 months, the measles antibodies and seropositive rate in the infants who received MCV vaccination increased sharply (p < .001). Regression analyzes showed that the younger the GA or the older the age, the lower the antibodies at 3 months(p < .001,p = .018); while the lower measles antibody levels at 3 months and older age predicted the lower antibodies at 6 months(p < .001, p = .029). PT were susceptible to measles due to the low level of maternally derived antibodies before MCV vaccination. More efforts should be considered to protect the vulnerable population during their early postnatal life.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the factors correlated with excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). METHODS: A total of 239 PD patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of EDS (Epworth Sleepiness Scale score≥10) (PD-EDS vs. PD-non-EDS). Participants underwent an extensive assessment to determine demographic features, disease severity, polysomnography characteristics, and nonmotor symptoms. RESULTS: Of the 239 patients, 56 patients (23.4%) were classified as having PD combined with EDS. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale [FSS] score ≥4) (odds ratio [OR] [95% CI] = 4.897 [2.376-10.095], p < .001) and the respiratory-related microarousal index (OR [95% CI] = 2.063 [1.085-3.923], p = .027) were independent risk factors for EDS in PD patients. A priori-determined stratified analysis showed that after adjustment for confounding factors, the association of the respiratory-related microarousal index with EDS was significant (OR = 4.404, 95% CI 1.673-11.592, p trend = .036) in patients with respiratory arousal index scores in the highest quintile compared with those with scores in the lowest quintile. CONCLUSION: Our data revealed a close association among the respiratory-related microarousal index, FSS scores, and EDS. It can be speculated that fragmented sleep and pathological abnormalities of the central nervous system resulting in changes in arousal are major influencing factors of EDS in PD.

With the benefits of coming at low-cost, being light-weight and having a high formability and durability, conventional plastics are widely used in both industry and daily life. However, because of their durability and extensive half-life with poor degradability and the low recycling rate, large amounts of plastic waste are accumulated in various environments, posing a significant threat to organisms and ecosystems. Compared to conventional physical and chemical degradation, biodegradation of plastic might become a promising and environmentally friendly solution for this problem. One of the aims of this review is to briefly describe the impact of plastics (especially microplastics). To facilitate rapid advancements in the area of plastic biodegradation, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the candidate organisms capable of biodegrading plastics and originating from four categories including natural microorganisms, artificially derived microorganisms, algae and animal organisms. In addition, the potential mechanism during plastic biodegradation and associated driving factors are summarized and discussed. Furthermore, the recent biotechnological progress (e.g. synthetic biology, systems biology, etc.) is highlighted as being key for future research. Finally, innovative research avenues for future studies are proposed. Concluding, our review is addressing the practical application of plastic biodegradation and the plastic pollution, thus necessitating more sustainable developments.

Background: Infectious mononucleosis caused by Epstein-Barr Virus infection is a common acute infectious disease in children. About 40-80% of children with infectious mononucleosis have hepatic injury, and hepatic failure is one of the main causes of death in patients with fatal infectious mononucleosis. Identifying the demographics, presenting clinical characteristics and the risk factors of hepatic injury in infectious mononucleosis children are helpful to remind clinicians which patients are prone to have hepatic damage. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study with a 31-month retrospective review was performed on all infectious mononucleosis children hospitalized in the pediatric department of Fuyang People's Hospital. Demographic data, presenting features, radiology imaging, clinical and laboratory parameters, and clinical outcomes of infectious mononucleosis children were collected. Results: Two-hundred twenty-one infectious mononucleosis inpatients were enrolled, and 43.9% (97/221) patients were considered to have a hepatic injury (defined as alanine amino transaminase > 40 U/L). Compared with patients without hepatic injury, hepatic injury patients were marked with a significantly higher percentage of hepatomegaly (31 vs. 49%), splenomegaly (58 vs. 81%) and palpebral edema (47 vs. 63%), higher age (3.05 ± 2.12 vs. 3.84 ± 2.44), hospitalization days (6.85 ± 2.64 vs. 8.08 ± 2.83), leukocyte (14.24 ± 5.32 vs. 18.53 ± 8.63), lymphocytes (9.48 ± 4.49 vs. 13.80 ± 7.47), the proportion of atypical lymphocytes (0.12 ± 0.07 vs. 0.15 ± 0.08) and aspartate aminotransferase (33.71 ± 10.94 vs. 107.82 ± 93.52). The results of correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis indicated that age (OR = 1.185; 95% CI = 1.035-1.357, p = 0.014), female (OR = 2.002, 95% CI: 0.261-0.955, p = 0.036) and splenomegaly (OR = 2.171, 95% CI: 1.018-4.628, p = 0.045) were independent risk factors of hepatic injury. Conclusions: In this study, the hepatic injury was associated with gender, age, and splenomegaly, which improved our understanding of risk factors about hepatic injury among infectious mononucleosis children.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of unified iron supplementation and identify the factors related to the iron homeostasis among preterm infants. Method: A total of 250 preterm infants were divided into neonatal anemic (NA, n = 154) and non-neonatal anemic group (NNA, n = 96). Iron supplements at a dose of 2 mg/kg per day were given from 40 weeks' gestational age to 6 months. Iron status parameters were measured at 3 and 6 months, respectively. Prevalence of iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA), and the correlated factors were analyzed. Growth and side-effects were monitored. Results: There were no significant differences for the prevalence of ID or IDA between the two groups. Multivariate regression analyses showed that higher Hb at birth and early treatment of blood transfusion reduced the risk of ID/IDA at 3 months (all p < 0.05); while higher level of Hb at 3 months (p = 0.004) and formula feeding reduced the occurrence of ID/IDA at 6 months (p < 0.05); males had a 3.35 times higher risk to develop ID/IDA than girls (p = 0.021). No differences in growth and side effects were found. Conclusion: A daily dose of 2 mg/kg iron supplement is beneficial to maintain iron homeostasis in majority preterm infants within 6 months regardless of their neonatal anemia history. Under the routine iron supplementation, Hb level at birth and at 3 months, early treatment of blood transfusion, gender and feeding patterns are the major factors affecting the prevalence of ID/IDA among preterm infants in infancy.

BACKGROUND: The Lumbar sagittal parameters might be related to modic changes (MCs). However, studies on this topic have rarely been reported. The aim of this study was to identify the relationships between the lumbar sagittal parameters and the development of MCs. METHODS: The lumbar sagittal parameters of 321 patients with chronic low back pain from May 2016 to August 2018 were measured on X-ray by using Surgimap surgical planning software. Univariable analyses were used to test the potential variables of interest. Logistic regression models were then performed for the significant parameters to identify the independent factors associated with the development of MCs. RESULTS: More patients in the MCs group were older with more number of female than in the disc degeneration group (p < 0.05). In the univariate analysis, significant differences were detected for the parameters of lumbar lordosis, sacral slope, intervertebral height index, endplate concave angle, and intervertebral angle only at the L5/S1 level between the two groups. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that a smaller intervertebral height index was positively associated with the development of MCs at the level of L3/4 (p < 0.05). However, the positive role of gender was only for MCs at the L5/S1 level (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study revealed that there were negative relationships between the lumbar sagittal parameters and MCs. Furthermore, being female and having a narrow intervertebral space were the independent risk factors for the development of MCs at the corresponding lumbar levels. Interestingly, body mass index might be not associated with MCs for the Chinese population.

Objective: There is a lack of data relating to vaccination of children with special health care needs (CSHCN) and its influencing factors in China. We investigated the disease spectrum of CSHCN at the Vaccination Consultation Clinic in Zhejiang province as well as the underlying factors of vaccination recommendations of these children. Methods: In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the data of 4,525 CSHCN, who visited to our clinic for a vaccination consultation from January 1, 2016 to May 30, 2018. Descriptive data were presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD) and percentages. Multivariate analysis was performed with non-conditional bivariate logistic regression to identify the underlying factors of vaccination recommendations. Subsequent information regarding the following vaccination and the occurrence of AEFI were also collected and analyzed. Results: The main diseases consulted were those relating to the circulatory and nervous systems as well as neonatal diseases. The distribution of diseases varied by age: 53.6% infants under 12 months were counseled for circulatory system diseases, while 44.6% children aged 12~24 months and 54.7% children over 25 months were counseled for nervous system diseases. According to the evaluation reports issued by the consultation clinic, 75.0% of CSHCN were recommended to be vaccinated normally, 21.2% were recommended to defer specific vaccination, while only 3.8% were recommended to defer all vaccinations. In logistic regression analysis, age, history of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) and the number of diseases combined were all strong correlative factors for vaccination recommendations. Children who were aged over 25-month-old (OR = 1.34, 95%CI: 1.11-1.61) or had a history of AEFI (OR = 3.77, 95%CI: 2.83~5.01) or those who had numerous diseases combined (OR = 2.00, 95%CI: 1.46~2.75) tended to have a higher rate of deferred vaccination recommendation. Among those CSHCN who received nationally-recommended vaccines, the estimated AEFI rate was 24.29/100 000. No uncommon or rare serious adverse reactions were detected. Conclusion: Age, history of AEFI, and the number of diseases combined were important factors that affected the vaccination recommendations of CSHCN. Most CSHCN can be safely vaccinated according to the nationally-recommended schedule.

BACKGROUND: The current study aimed to discuss the prevalence and surgical outcomes of the asymmetrical Modic changes and identify its correlative factors by multivariate logistic regression analysis. METHODS: Two hundred seventy-eight patients with single-level Modic changes and nerve compression symptoms were reviewed retrospectively from January 2008 to January 2015. 1.5-T MRI was performed to determine the Modic changes. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify the correlative factors of asymmetrical Modic changes. Surgeries were performed according to the surgical indications. The outcomes were recorded by Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, Neck Disability Index (NDI) score, and recovery rate. RESULTS: Asymmetrical Modic changes were observed in 76 patients (27.34%) with 4 type 1, 69 type 2, and 3 type 3. C5/6 was the most frequently affected segment with 39 patients showing signal changes on MRI. Statistically significant difference was showed in conservative rehabilitation rate between two groups (p = 0.043). Multiple logistic regression analysis identified disc herniation and neurological symptoms as correlative factors of asymmetrical Modic changes, and the adjusted odds ratios (95% CI) were 2.079 (1.348-3.208) and 0.231 (0.143-0.373) respectively. No statistically significant difference was found in JOA scores and NDI scores between the two kinds of Modic changes. CONCLUSIONS: C5/6 was the most commonly affected level by Modic changes. Disc herniation and nerve root compression symptom were more closely correlated with asymmetrical Modic changes than conventional Modic changes. Asymmetrical Modic changes indicated poor result in conservative treatment; however, the final operation rate was similar between the two kinds of Modic changes. The outcomes of surgical treatment were satisfactory both in patients with asymmetrical Modic changes and conventional Modic changes.

Objective: To understand the prevalence rate and correlative factors of dislipidemia among Shanxi coal miners and to provide evidence for the development of programs on dislipidemia prevention. Methods: We investigated 1 337 mine workers from a Coal Group in April 2016 and collected data related to their blood biochemistry. We then classified the types in accordance with the diagnostic criteria of " Guidelines for prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia in Chinese adults (2007)" , using χ(2) test and unconditional logistic regression model for analysis. Results: The overall prevalence rate of Dislipidemia was 59.1% (790/1 337), with males as 60.4% (708/1 173) and females as 50.0%(82/164) while males appeared higher (χ(2)=6.386, P<0.05). Among the 20-34, 35-49, 50 and above year-old groups, the rates were 68.8%, 58.7%, 49.5%, respectively. Results from the χ(2) test showed that gender, age and body mass index were the influencing factors on dislipidemia (χ(2)=7.117, P<0.01; χ(2)=37.135, P<0.01; χ(2)=7.009, P<0.05), while logistic regression analysis showed that sex, age, body mass index level, systolic blood pressure were significantly associated with dislipidemia (P<0.05). Male miners appeared 1.501 times (OR=1.501, 95%CI: 1.895-2.516) higher than female miners in suffering from the risk of dyslipidemia. In different age groups, risks of dyslipidemia in the 35-49, 20-34 year-old groups were 1.672 (OR=1.672, 95%CI: 1.501-2.392) and 2.369 times (OR= 2.369, 95% CI: 1.275-3.469) higher than the 50 year-old. Group that with high BMI, the risk of dyslipidemia was 1.443 times (OR=1.443, 95%CI: 1.139-1.828) higher than the normal BMI group. Group with abnormal systolic pressure was 1.829 times (OR=1.829, 95%CI: 1.152-2.906) higher than normal systolic pressure group. However, diastolic blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, and electrocardiogram findings did not seem to show statistically significant meanings on dislipidemia. Conclusion: Among the coal mine workers, those who were males, aged from 20 to 34, having high blood pressure (systolic blood pressure abnormalities) or with high BMI (≥24.0 kg/m(2)) need to be taken special attention on care and prevention of dislipidemia.
