How cortical oscillations are involved in the coordination of functionally coupled muscles and how this is modulated by different movement contexts (static vs dynamic) remains unclear. Here, this is investigated by recording high-density electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) from different forearm muscles while healthy participants (n = 20) performed movement tasks (static and dynamic posture holding, and reaching) with their dominant hand. When dynamic perturbation was applied, beta band (15-35 Hz) activities in the motor cortex contralateral to the performing hand reduced during the holding phase, comparative to when there was no perturbation. During static posture holding, transient periods of increased cortical beta oscillations (beta bursts) were associated with greater corticomuscular coherence and increased phase synchrony between muscles (intermuscular coherence) in the beta frequency band compared to the no-burst period. This effect was not present when resisting dynamic perturbation. The results suggest that cortical beta bursts assist synchronisation of different muscles during static posture holding in healthy motor control, contributing to the maintenance and stabilisation of functional muscle groups. Theoretically, increased cortical beta oscillations could lead to exaggerated synchronisation in different muscles making the initialisation of movements more difficult, as observed in Parkinson's disease.

PURPOSE: This study aims to develop and evaluate a novel cardiovascular MR sequence, MyoFold, designed for the simultaneous quantifications of myocardial tissue composition and wall motion. METHODS: MyoFold is designed as a 2D single breathing-holding sequence, integrating joint T1/T2 mapping and cine imaging. The sequence uses a 2-fold accelerated balanced SSFP (bSSFP) for data readout and incorporates electrocardiogram synchronization to align with the cardiac cycle. MyoFold initially acquires six single-shot inversion-recovery images, completed during the diastole of six successive heartbeats. T2 preparation (T2-prep) is applied to introduce T2 weightings for the last three images. Subsequently, over the following six heartbeats, segmented bSSFP is performed for the movie of the entire cardiac cycle, synchronized with an electrocardiogram. A neural network trained using numerical simulations of MyoFold is used for T1 and T2 calculations. MyoFold was validated through phantom and in vivo experiments, with comparisons made against MOLLI, SASHA, T2-prep bSSFP, and the conventional cine. RESULTS: In phantom studies, MyoFold exhibited a 10% overestimation in T1 measurements, whereas T2 measurements demonstrated high accuracy. In vivo experiments revealed that MyoFold T1 had comparable accuracy to SASHA and precision similar to MOLLI. MyoFold demonstrated good agreement with T2-prep bSSFP in myocardial T2 measurements. No significant differences were observed in the quantification of left-ventricle wall thickness and function between MyoFold and the conventional cine. CONCLUSION: MyoFold presents as a rapid, simple, and multitasking approach for quantitative cardiovascular MR examinations, offering simultaneous assessment of tissue composition and wall motion. The sequence's multitasking capabilities make it a promising tool for comprehensive cardiac evaluations in clinical settings.

OBJECTIVE: Substantial controversy exists regarding asymptomatic carotid stenosis (ACS) and its potential role in the pathophysiology of cognitive impairment. If proven, this hypothesis may suggest an additional definition for symptomatic carotid disease that would alter current management. This study aimed to synthesize the literature evaluating the relationship between impaired cerebral hemodynamics and cognition in patients with ACS. METHODS: A literature search was performed using MEDLINE, Embase, and EBM Reviews through May 2022. We included prospective case-control studies that used validated, objective measure(s) of either global cognition or one or more domains of cognitive function and assessed cerebrovascular reserve (CVR). RESULTS: Five studies were included, comprising a total of 782 patients with moderate (50%-69%) to severe (70%-99%) ACS. Patients with ACS and impaired ipsilateral CVR demonstrated significant cognitive impairment compared with controls. Patients with unilateral or bilateral ACS and normal CVR had cognitive scores similar to controls. Those with bilateral CVR impairment demonstrated the lowest cognitive scores. CONCLUSIONS: This review lends support to the claim that cognitive impairment, likely the result of impaired cerebral hemodynamics, is an under-recognized morbidity in patients with ACS. CVR may serve as an additional tool to determine whether patients are in fact symptomatic from their carotid stenosis and warrant consideration for intervention.

Many animal species do not breathe in a continuous, rhythmic fashion, but rather display a variety of breathing patterns characterized by prolonged periods between breaths (inter-breath intervals), during which the heart continues to beat. Examples of intermittent breathing abound across the animal kingdom, from crustaceans to cetaceans. With respect to human physiology, intermittent breathing-also termed 'periodic' or 'episodic' breathing-is associated with a variety of pathologies. Cardiovascular phenomena associated with intermittent breathing in diving species have been termed 'diving bradycardia', 'submersion bradycardia', 'immersion bradycardia', 'ventilation tachycardia', 'respiratory sinus arrhythmia' and so forth. An examination across the literature of terminology applied to these physiological phenomena indicates, unfortunately, no attempt at standardization. This might be viewed as an esoteric semantic problem except for the fact that many of the terms variously used by different authors carry with them implicit or explicit suggestions of underlying physiological mechanisms and even human-associated pathologies. In this article, we review several phenomena associated with diving and intermittent breathing, indicate the semantic issues arising from the use of each term, and make recommendations for best practice when applying specific terms to particular cardiorespiratory patterns. Ultimately, we emphasize that the biology-not the semantics-is what is important, but also stress that confusion surrounding underlying mechanisms can be avoided by more careful attention to terms describing physiological changes during intermittent breathing and diving.

The dive response involves three main components - breath holding, reduced heart rate and increased peripheral vasoconstriction - and is ubiquitous during forced dives in air-breathing vertebrates; however, numerous studies in free-diving animals have shown that the heart rate response to diving varies considerably in a manner that suggests cognitive control. Furthermore, studies on free-diving animals and controlled experiments in trained animals both indicate that the dive response can be conditioned, such that the reduction in heart rate begins before submergence and the extent of the reduction is set early in the dive. In addition, numerous species also experience an increase in heart rate and blood flow during ascent at the end of a dive, a phenomenon commonly called 'ascent tachycardia'. Collectively, these data suggest that although the dive response is under autonomic control, many species can vary its magnitude depending on the length and type of the planned dive - an indication of a role for cognition in the overall physiological responses associated with diving. Here, we provide examples of the conditioned cardiac responses - including anticipatory changes in heart rate - in several diving species and propose potential underlying mechanisms. We also discuss how the anticipatory cardiovascular responses not only improve diving capacity, but also prevent diving-related problems, such as decompression sickness or barotrauma, through a mechanism described by the selective gas exchange hypothesis.

Understanding the maintenance and dynamics of phenotypic polymorphisms requires unpicking key ecological mechanisms shaping the fitness costs and benefits of expressing alternative phenotypes, generating selection. Seasonal migration versus year-round residence expressed in partially migratory populations represents one common polymorphism that can experience strong selection through differential reproductive success. Yet, key hypothesised pathways that could generate such selection remain to be empirically tested. One hypothesis is that migratory tactics affect subsequent reproductive success through carry-over effects on breeding site retention and resulting breeding dispersal. By remaining in breeding areas all year round, residents could retain their preferred breeding site between years, and consequently have higher reproductive success. Conversely, migrants that escape harsh non-breeding season conditions could return in better condition, with high resource holding potential, and outcompete residents to retain their site. Such effects could further depend on migration timing and vary between years. Yet, such pathways have not been quantified, precluding empirical parameterisation of partial migration theory. We used 4 years of breeding and non-breeding season data from partially migratory European shags (Gulosus aristotelis) to test whether the three most frequent migratory tactics in this population (full resident, early migrant departing soon after breeding, and late migrant departing in late autumn) differed in their breeding site retention; whether site retention predicted reproductive success; and hence whether effects of migratory tactic on reproductive success were explicable through site retention. Overall, residents were much more likely to retain their breeding site between years than both early and late migrants, and site retention was associated with increased reproductive success. Yet, these effects varied somewhat among years: late migrants were always least likely to retain their site but had variable relative reproductive success. Path analyses revealed that effects of migratory tactic on reproductive success were only partly attributable to breeding site retention. These results indicate that multiple mechanisms underlie reproductive selection on migratory tactics, potentially contributing to maintaining behavioural polymorphisms. Yet, the clear associations between migratory tactics and local breeding dispersal reveal that these movements can be strongly interlinked across seasons, shaping overall spatioseasonal dynamics in partially migratory systems.

Floaters are sexually mature individuals that are not able to reproduce by defending breeding resources. Floaters often visit active nests, probably to gather public information or to compete for a nesting site. We tested the hypothesis that floaters preferentially prospect nests in which they have a better chance of taking over, and that they do so by assessing the owners' resource holding potential (RHP). We manipulated the flight capacity of male and female breeders in a population of spotless starlings (Sturnus unicolor) by clipping two flight feathers per wing before egg laying, thus increasing their wing-load and likely impairing their condition. We subsequently monitored breeder and floater activity by means of transponder readers during the nestling period. We found that nests owned by wing-clipped males were visited by a greater number of male floaters than control nests. This effect was absent in the case of wing-clipped females. The number of male floaters also increased with increasing nestling age and number of parental visits. The experiment shows that male floaters preferentially prospect nests in which the owner shows a reduced RHP, a strategy that likely allows them to evict weak owners and take over their nests for future reproductive attempts.

INTRODUCTION: Cystometry is essential for evaluating bladder function. However, children may react negatively to the physical pain of urethral catheterization or anxiety and fear of an unfamiliar environment. These pain responses during the cystometry procedure may interfere with the cystometry procedure and make it difficult to interpret the cystometry result. In this regard, the International Children's Continence Society has advised performing cystometry while holding infants as an effective nonpharmacological pain management method, but there is insufficient evidence to support this. PURPOSE: This study aimed to analyze the effect of parental holding on reducing pain in children during cystometry. METHODS: This was an experimental study in a randomized controlled pre-post test design. A total of 64 participants aged 6-18 months were recruited. During cystometry, the participants in the experimental group were placed on the parent's laps and held in the parents' arms. The participants in the control group were laid down on the examination table. During the procedure, both groups of parents were allowed to touch their children in all ways except holding them and to use the pacifier if they wished. The behavioral (face, leg, activity, cry, consolability scale) and physiological (oxygen saturation and heart rate) pain responses were measured at three-time points (immediately, 3, and 10 min after urethral catheter insertion). RESULTS: Comparing the two groups, in the experimental group, the behavioral pain response at 3 min after urethral catheter insertion (t = -2.165, p = 0.034) and 10 min after (t = -3.155, p = 0.002) was decreased compared with that immediately after urethral catheter insertion. In addition, oxygen saturation increased more (t = 2.021, p = 0.048), and the heart rate decreased more (t = -2.033, p = 0.047) at 10 min than at 3 min after urethral catheter insertion in the experimental group. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that parental holding could reduce pain responses during cystometry in children. Further research is required to confirm the applicability and usefulness of parental holding during cystometry.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Regulatory requirement of fixed holding time (6 h) of whole blood (WB) at room temperature, that is, 22-24°C (RT) results in sub-optimal component separation. The aim was to evaluate the platelet concentrates (PC) prepared by both platelet rich plasma (PRP) and buffy coat (BC) methods after overnight hold (18-24 h) at RT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective experimental study was performed. A total of 48 WB units collected were divided into four groups (12 each) control-1 (C1) and test-1 (T1) for PRP and control-2 (C2) and test-2 (T2) for the BC method. Control groups were processed within 6 h, and in test groups, components were prepared after overnight hold, followed by evaluation of quality parameters. RESULTS: Irrespective of the method used, all PCs had similar volume, platelet yield, swirling, no bacterial contamination, RBC contamination, PaO2 and PaCO2 levels. PCs in the T1 group had significant differences in glucose and MPV values on d1, which were resolved by d5 of storage. PCs in T2 has significant differences in pH, glucose, and MPV levels throughout storage. PRBC in test and control groups had similar quality parameters till d42 of storage. FFPs in all tests were noninferior to the concurrent control groups till 3 months of storage. CONCLUSION: Overnight holding of WB had no lasting deleterious changes. Though a few biochemical parameters in the test groups were significantly different, they can be accepted to improve the logistics of component separation. Overall PRP method seemed to have a better result than the BC method after an overnight hold.

In this review article, our objective is to elucidate fundamental principles and offer practical illustrations concerning the procedures involved in facial and neck thread lifting. Moreover, we aim to explore associated concepts such as the fixing point, hanging point, and anchoring point terminologies, along with the elucidation of vectors. Additionally, we will provide anatomically oriented explanations of the lifting process required for each facial region using thread lifting methods like V, U, and I techniques using floating type threads (Secrete line, Hyundai Meditech., Inc., Wonjusi, Republic of Korea). Furthermore, our intention is to delve deeply into the concepts of tensile strength, anchoring strength, and holding strength, contextualizing their practical applications within this specific field.

Pollination in Marantaceae is mediated by an explosive style movement. Before release, style tension is held by the hooded staminode. When a pollinator touches the trigger appendage of the hooded staminode the latter deforms and the style rapidly curls upwards. This movement has been interpreted as a turgor movement by some authors, but recent studies clearly indicate that setup, hold and release of tension are purely mechanical processes. However, in view of the high diversity of hooded staminodes, the question arises what keeps the tension in species with very thin staminodes. To test the holding mechanisms, we conducted mechanical and physico-chemical release experiments in four species with robust and four species with thin hooded staminodes in their natural tropical environment. We found almost the same response of all species to mechanical treatments, but species-specific reactions to different physico-chemical conditions. This indicates that style release follows the same mechanical principles in all species, but that the sensitivity of the explosive movement depends on material properties like tissue thickness and turgescence. As to the holding mechanisms, we found different degrees of floral synorganization. The hood of the hooded staminode formerly interpreted as an important holding structure does not play a noteworthy role. Instead, the basal plate of the hooded staminode antagonises the pressure of the style head against the holding point of the hooded staminode in species with robust hooded staminodes and well-developed basal plates. In some species with a thin hooded staminode, the latter is closely attached to the style and most likely stabilises tension by adhesive forces. In another species, a morphologically analogous structure adopts the function of the basal plate. We conclude that the holding mechanism of the style tension diversified during the evolution of Marantaceae whereas the release mechanism itself has been conserved throughout the family.

AIM: Breath-holding spells (BHS) are common in children, but evidence-based clinical guidelines are lacking. We investigated a large population-based cohort of BHS patients, to propose a refined description of typical BHS and guidelines for its management. METHODS: In a cross-sectional retrospective study, patients diagnosed with BHS in Southern Sweden 2004-2018 were recruited. Disease characteristics and diagnostic data were collected from patient medical records. RESULTS: In total, 519 patients, mean age at diagnosis 19.8 ± 13.8 months with equal gender distribution, were included. In 48.3%, BHS had already been diagnosed after one spell. During spells, 78.0% of patients were unresponsive. For 71.5%, atonic, tonic, tonic-clonic or myoclonic seizures were reported, and 78.0% of patients had a spell lasting less than 1 min. Electroencephalography was conducted in 30.4% and Electrocardiography in 45.1%. Six children (3.8%) had a pathological electroencephalogram, four of which had concomitant epilepsy and only 0.9% of children had electrocardiogram findings suggesting pathology, none showing long QT syndrome. CONCLUSION: Children with BHS were frequently subjected to unnecessary diagnostic interventions. We characterise a typical presentation of BHS and propose a management-algorithm, which is expected to reduce unnecessary usage of electroencephalography and electrocardiography.

This paper presents an innovative approach to the design optimization of valved holding chambers (VHCs), crucial devices for aerosol drug delivery. We present the design of an optimal cylindrical VHC body and introduce a novel valve based on particle impaction theory. The research combines computational simulations and physical experiments to assess the performance of various VHCs, with a special focus on the deposition patterns of medication particles within these devices. The methodology incorporates both experimental and simulation approaches to validate the reliability of the simulation. Emphasis is placed on the deposition patterns observed on the VHC walls and the classification of fine and large particles for salbutamol sulfate particles. The study reveals the superior efficacy of our valve design in separating particles compared to commercially available VHCs. In standard conditions, our valve design allows over 95% of particles under 7 µm to pass through while effectively filtering those larger than 8 µm. The optimized body design accomplishes a 60% particle mass flow fraction at the outlet and an average particle size reduction of 58.5%. When compared numerically in terms of size reduction, the optimal design outperforms the two commercially available VHCs selected. This study provides valuable insights into the optimization of VHC design, offering significant potential for improved aerosol drug delivery. Our findings demonstrate a new path forward for future studies, aiming to further optimize the design and performance of VHCs for enhanced pulmonary drug delivery.

We aimed to determine the efficacy of the various available oral, topical, and procedural treatment options for hair loss in individuals with androgenic alopecia. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a systematic review of the National Library of Medicine was performed. Overall, 141 unique studies met our inclusion criteria. We demonstrate that many over the counter (e.g. topical minoxidil, supplements, low-level light treatment), prescription (e.g. oral minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride), and procedural (e.g. platelet-rich plasma, fractionated lasers, hair transplantation) treatments successfully promote hair growth, highlighting the superiority of a multifaceted and individualized approach to management.

BACKGROUND: Quadriceps strength deficits are known for patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA), whereas findings on hamstrings are less clear. The Adaptive Force (AF) as a special neuromuscular function has never been investigated in OA before. The maximal adaptive holding capacity (max. isometric AF; AFisomax) has been considered to be especially vulnerable to disruptive stimuli (e.g., nociception). It was hypothesized that affected limbs of OA patients would show clear deficits in AFisomax. METHODS: AF parameters and the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) of hamstrings were assessed bilaterally comparing 20 patients with knee OA (ART) vs. controls (CON). AF was measured by a pneumatically driven device. Participants were instructed to maintain a static position despite an increasing load of the device. After reaching AFisomax, the hamstrings merged into eccentric action whereby the force increased further to the maximum (AFmax). MVIC was recorded before and after AF trials. Mixed ANOVA was used to identify differences between and within ART and CON (comparing 1st and 2nd measured sides). RESULTS: AFisomax and the torque development per degree of yielding were significantly lower only for the more affected side of ART vs. CON (p ≤ 0.001). The percentage difference of AFisomax amounted to - 40%. For the less affected side it was - 24% (p = 0.219). MVIC and AFmax were significantly lower for ART vs. CON for both sides (p ≤ 0.001). Differences of MVIC between ART vs. CON amounted to - 27% for the more, and - 30% for the less affected side; for AFmax it was - 34% and - 32%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that strength deficits of hamstrings are present in patients with knee OA possibly attributable to nociception, generally lower physical activity/relief of lower extremities or fear-avoidance. However, the more affected side of OA patients seems to show further specific impairments regarding neuromuscular control reflected by the significantly reduced adaptive holding capacity and torque development during adaptive eccentric action. It is assumed that those parameters could reflect possible inhibitory nociceptive effects more sensitive than maximal strengths as MVIC and AFmax. Their role should be further investigated to get more specific insights into these aspects of neuromuscular control in OA patients. The approach is relevant for diagnostics also in terms of severity and prevention.

Despite the high level of standardization of the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique, there are some aspects that deserve special attention and should still be improved. The major drawback of the technique is its invasiveness, as during cytoplasmic aspiration different structures of the oocyte may be lost or damaged. This is partly because the microtools used in ICSI were not specially designed for assisted reproduction but for other medical-biological disciplines. In view of the above caveats, the aim of the study was to compare the results of ICSI with the traditional oocyte-holding pipette and the oocyte-holding pipette without aspiration (PiWA). In total, 155 patients and 1037 oocytes were included in the study. In each ICSI cycle, half of the oocytes were microinjected using a traditional holding pipette and the other half using a PiWA. In result, the PiWA technique produced a significant increase in the fertilization rate: 88.12% (95%CI: 84.62-90.92%); holding pipette: 73.33% (95%CI: 68.72-77.49%). Also, it produced a significant decrease in the embryo degeneration rate compared with the traditional holding pipette [PiWA: 2.07% (95%CI: 1.11-3.8%); holding pipette: 4.51% (95%CI: 3.06-6.59%)]. Pregnancy rate depended on the holding technique used, both in single embryo transfers (n = 59; χ2 = 4.608; P-value = 0.032) and double embryo transfers (n = 156; χ2 = 4.344; P-value = 0.037); with PiWA presenting a significantly higher pregnancy rate than the traditional holding technique. Based on current evidence and the present results, improvements should focus on decreasing the invasiveness of the microinjection itself by minimizing or avoiding aspiration and cytoplasmic disorganization, as is successfully achieved with PiWA.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) typically provide a wide range of nutritional benefits to their host plants, and their role in plant water uptake, although still controversial, is often cited as one of the hallmarks of this symbiosis. Less attention has been dedicated to other effects relating to water dynamics that the presence of AMF in soils may have. Evidence that AMF can affect soil hydraulic properties is only beginning to emerge. In one of our recent experiments with dwarf tomato plants, we serendipitously found that the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (Rhizophagus irregularis 'PH5') can slightly but significantly reduce water holding capacity (WHC) of the substrate (a sand-zeolite-soil mixture). This was further investigated in a subsequent experiment, but there we found exactly the opposite effect as mycorrhizal substrate retained more water than did the non-mycorrhizal substrate. Because the same substrate was used and other conditions were mostly comparable in the two experiments, we explain the contrasting results by different substrate compaction, most likely caused by different pot shapes. It seems that in compacted substrates, AMF may have no effect upon or even decrease the substrates' WHC. On the other hand, the AMF hyphae interweaving the pores of less compacted substrates may increase the capillary movement of water throughout such substrates and cause slightly more water to remain in the pores after the free water has drained. We believe that this phenomenon is worthy of mycorrhizologists' attention and merits further investigation as to the role of AMF in soil hydraulic properties.

BACKGROUND: Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) cesarean hysterectomy is performed under conditions of shock and can result in serious complications. This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of the "Holding-up uterus" surgical technique with a shock index (S.I.) > 1.5. METHODS: Twelve patients who underwent PAS cesarean hysterectomy were included in the study. RESULTS: Group I had S.I. > 1.5, and group II had S.I. ≤ 1.5. Group I had more complications, but none were above Grade 3 or fatal. Preoperative scheduled uterine artery embolization did not result in serious complications, but three patients who had emergency common iliac artery balloon occlusion (CIABO) and a primary total hysterectomy with S.I. > 1.5 had postoperative Grade 2 thrombosis. Two patients underwent manual ablation of the placenta under CIABO to preserve the uterus, both with S.I. > 1.5. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that the "Holding-up uterus" technique was safe, even in critical situations with S.I. > 1.5. CIABO had no intervention effect. The study also identified assisted reproductive technology pregnancies with a uterine cavity length of less than 5 cm before conception as a critical factor.

This study aimed to investigate what factors determine freedivers' maximal static apnea dive time. We correlated some physical/physiological factors with male freedivers' maximum apnea diving duration. Thirty-six experienced male freedivers participated in this study. The divers participated in two days of the experiments. On the first day, apnea diving time, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), stress index, and blood parameters were measured before, during, and after the apnea diving in the pool. On the second day, body composition, lung capacity, resting and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), and the Wingate anaerobic power were measured in the laboratory. The data were analyzed with Pearson's Correlation using the SPSS 22 program. The correlation coefficient (R) of determination was set at 0.4, and the level of significance was set at p <0.05. There were positive correlations of diving experience, maximum SpO2, and lung capacity with the maximum apnea time R>0.4, P<0.05). There were negative correlations of BMI, body fat percentage, body fat mass, minimum SpO2, stress index, and total cholesterol with the maximum apnea diving time (R>-0.4, P<0.05). No correlations of age, height, weight, fat-free mass, skeletal muscle mass, HR, BP, blood glucose, beta- hydroxybutyrate, lactate, and hemoglobin levels with the maximum apnea diving time were observed (R<0.4, P>0.05). It is concluded that more experience in freediving, reduced body fat, extended SpO2 range, and increased lung capacity are the performance predictors and beneficial for freedivers to improve their maximum apnea diving performance.

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of large yellow croaker roe phospholipids (LYCRPLs) on the physical properties of surimi gels and to clarify their interaction mechanism with myofibrillar proteins (MPs) in terms of chemical forces and the spatial conformation. RESULTS: LYCRPLs could improve the gel strength, textural properties, rheological properties and water-holding capacity of surimi gels. Moreover, the interaction mechanism between LYCRPLs with MPs was revealed through intermolecular forces, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy. The findings demonstrated that LYCRPLs enhanced the surface hydrophobicity and particle size of MPs, facilitating expansion and cross-linking of MPs. CONCLUSION: These results provide a theoretical basis for improving the characteristics of surimi gels and thus facilitate the application of LYCRPLs in the aquatic food industry. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.
