RESUMO

Refractory carbides are attractive candidates for support materials in heterogeneous catalysis because of their high thermal, chemical, and mechanical stability. However, the industrial applications of refractory carbides, especially silicon carbide (SiC), are greatly hampered by their low surface area and harsh synthetic conditions, typically have a very limited surface area (<200 m2 g-1), and are prepared in a high-temperature environment (>1,400 °C) that lasts for several or even tens of hours. Based on Le Chatelier's principle, we theoretically proposed and experimentally verified that a low-pressure carbothermal reduction (CR) strategy was capable of synthesizing high-surface area SiC (569.9 m2 g-1) at a lower temperature and a faster rate (∼1,300 °C, 50 Pa, 30 s). Such high-surface area SiC possesses excellent thermal stability and antioxidant capacity since it maintained stability under a water-saturated airflow at 650 °C for 100 h. Furthermore, we demonstrated the feasibility of our strategy for scale-up production of high-surface area SiC (460.6 m2 g-1), with a yield larger than 12 g in one experiment, by virtue of an industrial viable vacuum sintering furnace. Importantly, our strategy is  also applicable to the rapid synthesis of refractory metal carbides (NbC, Mo2C, TaC, WC) and even their emerging high-entropy carbides (VNbMoTaWC5, TiVNbTaWC5). Therefore, our low-pressure CR method provides an alternative strategy, not merely limited to temperature and time items, to regulate the synthesis and facilitate the upcoming industrial applications of carbide-based advanced functional materials.

Much effort is made to achieve the negative thermal expansion (NTE) control, but rare methods reached the improvement of intrinsic NTE. In the present work, a significantly enhanced NTE is realized in Cu2P2O7 by applying low pressure. Especially, the volumetric coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of Cu2P2O7 reached to -50.0 × 10-6 K-1 (150-325K) under 0.25 GPa, which is increased by 47.5% compared to its NTE in a similar temperature range under atmosphere pressure. This character enables a more effective manifestation of the thermal compensation role of Cu2P2O7 in composites. The enhanced NTE mechanisms are analyzed by high pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction at variable temperature and pressure, as well as density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results show that applied pressure accelerates the contraction of the distance between adjacent CuO layers and CuO columns. Meanwhile, the low-frequency phonon contribution to NTE in α-Cu2P2O7 is improved. This work is meaningful for the exploration of methods to enhance NTE and the practical application of NTE materials.

A new form of pancake bouncing is discovered in this work when a droplet impacts onto micro-structured superhydrophobic surfaces in an environment pressure less than 2 kPa, and an unprecedented reduction of contact time by ≈85% is obtained. The mechanisms of forming this unique phenomenon are examined by combining experimental observation, numeical modelling and an improved theoretical model for the overpressure effect arising from the vaporisation inside micro-scaled structures. The competition among the vapor overpressure effect, the droplet impact force, and the surface adhesion determines if the pancake bouncing behavior could occur. After the lift-off the lamella, the pancake bouncing is initiated and its subsequent dynamics is controlled by the internal momentum transfer. Complementary to the prior studies, this work enriches the knowledge of droplet dynamics in low pressure, which allows new strategies of surface morphology engineering for droplet control, an area of high importance for many engineering applications.

Silicon (Si) anodes, free from the dendritic growth concerns found in lithium (Li) metal anodes, offer a promising alternative for high-energy all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). However, most advancements in Si anodes have been achieved under impractical high operating pressures, which can mask detrimental electrochemo-mechanical issues. Herein, we effectively address the challenges related to the low-pressure operation of Si anodes in ASSBs by introducing an silver (Ag) interlayer between the solid electrolyte layer (Li6PS5Cl) and anode and prelithiating the anodes. The Si composite electrodes, consisting of Si/polyvinylidene fluoride/carbon nanotubes, are optimized for suitable mechanical properties and electrical connectivity. Although the impact of the Ag interlayer is insignificant at an exceedingly high operating pressure of 70 MPa, it substantially enhances the interfacial contacts under a practical low operating pressure of 15 MPa. Thus, Ag-coated Si anodes outperform bare Si anodes (discharge capacity: 2430 vs 1560 mA h g-1). The robust interfacial contact is attributed to the deformable, adhesive properties and protective role of the in situ lithiated Ag interlayer, as evidenced by comprehensive ex situ analyses. Operando electrochemical pressiometry is used effectively to probe the strong interface for Ag-coated Si anodes. Furthermore, prelithiation through the thermal evaporation deposition of Li metal significantly improves the cycling performance.

Nanofiber filters are widely used in air filtration applications due to their superior performance over microfiber filters. Velocity slip around nanofibers has been identified as a key factor contributing to their high figure of merit, yet its impact on filter performance, especially particle collection efficiency, remains unclear due to the difficulty in isolating the slip effect as the sole variable. This study combines experimental and simulation methods to investigate the slip effect by adjusting the air molecule mean free path, rather than varying fiber size as done in previous studies. Filter media with mean fiber sizes ranging from 16.2 to 0.084 µm are utilized. An image-based regression method is developed to address the challenge of determining the solidity of thin nanofiber layers. The results show that the slip effect is enhanced as the testing pressure decreases, reducing pressure drop by less than 15% for microfiber filters and over 50% for nanofiber filters ≈100 nm. The enhanced slip effect at low pressures (i.e., relatively low pressure compared to the ambient environment) significantly improves filtration efficiency, especially for particles larger than 100 nm. It also proposes semi-empirical equations for predicting filter performance in slip and transition flow regimes.

Fungal contamination poses a serious threat to public health and food safety because molds can grow under stressful conditions through melanin accumulation. Although ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is popular for inhibiting microorganisms, its effectiveness is limited by our insufficient knowledge about UV tolerance in melanin-accumulating molds. In this study, we first confirmed the protective effect of melanin by evaluating the UV sensitivity of young and mature spores. Additionally, we compared UV sensitivity between spores with accumulated melanin and spores prepared with melanin biosynthesis inhibitors. We found that mature spores were less UV-sensitive than young spores, and that reduced melanin accumulation by inhibitors led to reduced UV sensitivity. These results suggest that melanin protects cells against UV irradiation. To determine the most effective wavelength for inhibition, we evaluated the wavelength dependence of UV tolerance in a yeast (Rhodotorula mucilaginosa) and in molds (Aspergillus fumigatus, Cladosporium halotolerans, Cladosporium sphaerospermum, Aspergillus brasiliensis, Penicillium roqueforti, and Botrytis cinerea). We assessed UV tolerance using a UV-light emitting diode (LED) irradiation system with 13 wavelength-ranked LEDs between 250 and 365 nm, a krypton chlorine (KrCl) excimer lamp device, and a low pressure (LP) Hg lamp device. The inhibition of fungi peaked at around 270 nm, and most molds showed reduced UV sensitivity at shorter wavelengths as they accumulated pigment. Absorption spectra of the pigments showed greater absorption at shorter wavelengths, suggesting greater UV protection at these wavelengths. These results will assist in the development of fungal disinfection systems using UV, such as closed systems of air and water purification.

BACKGROUND: Low-pressure pneumoperitoneum (LPP) is an attempt at improving laparoscopic surgery. However, it has the issue of poor working space for which deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) may be a solution. There is a lack of literature comparing LPP with deep NMB to standard pressure pneumoperitoneum (SPP) with moderate NMB. METHODOLOGY: This was a single institutional prospective non-inferiority RCT, with permuted block randomization of subjects into group A and B [Group A: LPP; 8-10 mmHg with deep NMB [ Train of Four count (TOF): 0, Post Tetanic Count (PTC): 1-2] and Group B: SPP; 12-14 mmHg with moderate NMB]. The level of NMB was monitored with neuromuscular monitor with TOF count and PTC. Cisatracurium infusion was used for continuous deep NMB in group A. Primary outcome measures were the surgeon satisfaction score and the time for completion of the procedure. Secondarily important clinical outcomes were also reported. RESULTS: Of the 222 patients screened, 181 participants were enrolled [F: 138 (76.2%); M: 43 (23.8%); Group A n = 90, Group B n = 91]. Statistically similar surgeon satisfaction scores (26.1 ± 3.7 vs 26.4 ± 3.4; p = 0.52) and time for completion (55.2 ± 23.4 vs 52.5 ± 24.9 min; p = 0.46) were noted respectively in groups A and B. On both intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis it was found that group A was non-inferior to group B in terms of total surgeon satisfaction score, however, non-inferiority was not proven for time for completion of surgery. Mean pain scores and incidence of shoulder pain were statistically similar up-to 7 days of follow-up in both groups. 4 (4.4%) patients in group B and 2 (2.2%) in group A had bradycardia (p = 0.4). Four (4.4%) cases of group A were converted to group B. One case of group B converted to open surgery. Bile spills and gallbladder perforations were comparable. CONCLUSION: LPP with deep NMB is non-inferior to SPP with moderate NMB in terms of surgeon satisfaction score but not in terms of time required to complete the procedure. Clinical outcomes and safety profile are similar in both groups. However, it could be marginally costlier to use LPP with deep NMB.

BACKGROUND: Low-pressure pneumoperitoneum (LPP) is an attempt to improve laparoscopic surgery. Lower pressure causes lesser inflammation and better hemodynamics. There is a lack of literature comparing inflammatory markers in LPP with deep NMB to standard pressure pneumoperitoneum (SPP) with moderate NMB in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. METHODOLOGY: This was a single institutional prospective randomized control trial. Participants included all patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic gall stone disease. Participants were divided into 2 groups group A and B. Group A-Low-pressure group in which pneumoperitoneum pressure was kept low (8-10 mmHg) with deep Neuromuscular blockade (NMB) and Group B-Normal pressure group (12-14 mmHg) with moderate NMB. A convenience sample size of 80 with 40 in each group was selected. Lab investigations like CBC, LFT, RFT and serum IL-1, IL-6, IL-17, TNF alpha levels were measured at base line and 24 h after surgery and compared using appropriate statistical tests. Other parameters like length of hospital stay, post-operative pain score, conversion rate (low-pressure to standard pressure), and complications were also compared. RESULTS: Eighty participants were analysed with 40 in each group. Baseline characteristics and investigations were statistically similar. Difference (post-operative-pre-operative) of inflammatory markers were compared between both groups. Numerically there was a slightly higher rise in most of the inflammatory markers (TLC, ESR, CRP, IL-6, TNFα) in Group B compared to Group A but not statistically significant. Albumin showed significant fall (p < 0.001) in Group B compared to Group A. Post-operative pain was also significantly less (p < 0.001) in Group A compared to Group B at 6 h and 24 h. There were no differences in length of hospital stay and incidence of complications. There was no conversion from low-pressure to standard pressure. CONCLUSION: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed under low-pressure pneumoperitoneum with deep NMB may have lesser inflammation and lesser post-operative pain compared to standard pressure pneumoperitoneum with moderate NMB. Future studies with larger sample size need to be designed to support these findings.

Aeolian sediment transport is observed to occur on Mars as well as other extraterrestrial environments, generating ripples and dunes as on Earth. The search for terrestrial analogs of planetary bedforms, as well as environmental simulation experiments able to reproduce their formation in planetary conditions, are powerful ways to question our understanding of geomorphological processes toward unusual environmental conditions. Here, we perform sediment transport laboratory experiments in a closed-circuit wind tunnel placed in a vacuum chamber and operated at extremely low pressures to show that Martian conditions belong to a previously unexplored saltation regime. The threshold wind speed required to initiate saltation is only quantitatively predicted by state-of-the art models up to a density ratio between grain and air of [Formula: see text] but unexpectedly falls to much lower values for higher density ratios. In contrast, impact ripples, whose emergence is continuously observed on the granular bed over the whole pressure range investigated, display a characteristic wavelength and propagation velocity essentially independent of pressure. A comparison of these findings with existing models suggests that sediment transport at low Reynolds number but high grain-to-fluid density ratio may be dominated by collective effects associated with grain inertia in the granular collisional layer.

Aiming at the complex characteristics of negative pressure waves in low-pressure pipelines inside of buildings, we proposed an estimation method of pressure fluctuation trends based on the robust Kalman filter and the improved VMD, which can be used for leakage detection. The reconstructed baseline signal can accurately describe the fluctuation trend of the negative pressure wave after the pressure drop, and quantitatively express the characteristic difference between the leakage condition and the gas usage condition. The robust Kalman filter was used to estimate the pressure fluctuations. The parameters of VMD were adaptively calculated based on the WAA and discrete scale space. The trend components contained in the IMFs were separated by a reconstruction based on the Fourier series. Based on the simulation signal, the method can accurately restore the trend component contained in the complex pressure signal. Based on the actual signals, the accuracy of small leakage detection is 96.7% and the accuracy of large leakage detection is 73.3%.

This study utilizes neural networks to detect and locate thermal anomalies in low-pressure steam turbines, some of which experienced a drop in efficiency. Standard approaches relying on expert knowledge or statistical methods struggled to identify the anomalous steam line due to difficulty in capturing nonlinear and weak relations in the presence of linear and strong ones. In this research, some inputs that linearly relate to outputs have been intentionally neglected. The remaining inputs have been used to train shallow feedforward or long short-term memory neural networks using measured data. The resulting models have been analyzed by Shapley additive explanations, which can determine the impact of individual inputs or model features on outputs. This analysis identified unexpected relations between lines that should not be connected. Subsequently, during periodic plant shutdown, a leak was discovered in the indicated line.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is diagnosed by an abnormal finding in brain MRI, spinal imaging, or lumbar puncture. However, the sensitivity of each test is low. We investigated whether patients with suspected spontaneous intracranial hypotension and negative imaging findings would respond to epidural blood patch. METHODS: We prospectively recruited patients with new-onset orthostatic headache admitted at the Samsung Medical Center from January 2017 to July 2021. In patients without abnormal imaging findings and no history of prior epidural blood patch, treatment outcome-defined as both 50% response in maximal headache intensity and improvement of orthostatic component-was collected at discharge and three months after epidural blood patch. RESULTS: We included 21 treatment-naïve patients with orthostatic headache and negative brain and spinal imaging results who received epidural blood patch. After epidural blood patch (mean 1.3 times, range 1-3), 14 (66.7%) and 19 (90.5%) patients achieved both 50% response and improvement of orthostatic component at discharge and three months post-treatment, respectively. Additionally, complete remission was reported in 11 (52.4%) patients at three-month follow-up, while most of the remaining patients had only mild headaches. Among nine (42.9%) patients who underwent lumbar puncture, none had an abnormally low opening pressure (median 13.8 cm H2O, range 9.2-21.5). CONCLUSION: Given the high responder rates of epidural blood patch in our study, empirical epidural blood patch should be considered to treat new-onset orthostatic headache, even when brain and spinal imaging are negative. The necessity of lumbar puncture is questionable considering the high response rate of epidural blood patch and low rate of "low pressure."

PURPOSE: We aimed to compare perioperative outcomes, post-operative complications, and opioid use between AirSeal® and non-AirSeal® robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). METHODS: We retrospectively collected data on 326 patients who underwent elective RARP at our institution either with or without AirSeal®. The first 60 cases were excluded accounting for the institutions' learning curve of RARP. Patient demographics, oncologic, pathologic, and surgical characteristics between AirSeal® and non-AirSeal® cases were compared. Furthermore, outcomes of interest including operative time, length of stay, morbidity, and opioid use for pain management were compared between the two groups. Univariate linear and logistic regression models were developed. RESULTS: The AirSeal® group consisted of 125 (38.3%) patients while the non-AirSeal® group consisted of 201 (61.7%) patients. No statistically significant difference was seen in terms of patient demographics, oncologic characteristics, surgical characteristics, and pathologic characteristics between the two groups. In addition, univariate linear regression showed that RARP with AirSeal® displayed shorter operative times by 12.3 min and a shorter length of hospital stay by 0.5 days compared to the non-AirSeal® group (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the AirSeal® group witnessed lower odds of Clavien-Dindo (CVD) Class > 2 complications (OR = 0.102) and a lower need for opioid use (OR = 0.49) compared to the non-AirSeal® group (p < 0.022). CONCLUSION: RARP using AirSeal® is associated with shorter operative times, shorter length of hospital stays, lower odds of CVD > 2 complications, and lower odds of opioid use with respect to non-AirSeal® RARP. The efficacy and cost effectiveness of using the AirSeal® system during RARP should be further studied and evaluated by clinical trials.

Ionic contaminants such as Cr(VI) pose a challenge for water purification using membrane-based processes. However, existing membranes have low permeability and selectivity for Cr(VI). Therefore, in this study, we prepared an electrically controlled adsorptive membrane (ECAM-L) by coating a loose Cl--doped polypyrrole layer on a carbon nanotube substrate, and we evaluated the performance of ECAM-L for Cr(VI) separation from water. We also used electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance measurements and molecular dynamics and density functional theory calculations to investigate the separation mechanisms. The adsorption and desorption of Cr(VI) could be modulated by varying the electrostatic interactions between ECAM-L and Cr(VI) via potential control, enabling the cyclic use of the ECAM-L without additional additives. Consequently, the oxidized ECAM-L showed high Cr(VI) removal performance (<50 µg/L) and treatment capacity (>3500 L/m2) at a high water flux (283 L/m2/h), as well as reusability after the application of a potential. Our study demonstrates an efficient membrane design for water decontamination that can selectively separate Cr(VI) through a short electric stimulus.

INTRODUCTION: Low-pressure pneumoperitoneum (LLP) in laparoscopy colorectal surgery (CS) has resulted in reduced hospital stay and lower analgesic consumption. Microsurgery (MS) in CS is a technique that has a significant impact with respect to postoperative pain. The combination of MS plus LLP, known as low-impact laparoscopy (LIL), has never been applied in CS. Therefore, this trial will assess the efficacy of LLP plus MS versus LLP alone in terms of decreasing postoperative pain 24 h after surgery, without taking opioids. METHOD: PAROS II will be a prospective, multicentre, outcome assessor-blinded, randomised controlled phase III clinical trial that compares LLP plus MS versus LLP alone in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for colonic or upper rectal cancer or benign pathology. The primary outcome will be the number of patients with postoperative pain 24 h after the surgery, as defined by a visual analogue scale rating ≤3 and without taking opioids. Overall, PAROS II aims to recruit 148 patients for 50% of patients to reach the primary outcome in the LLP plus MS arm, with 80% power and an 5% alpha risk. CONCLUSION: The PAROS II trial will be the first phase III trial to investigate the impact of LIL, including LLP plus MS, in laparoscopic CS. The results may improve the postoperative recovery experience and decrease opioid consumption after laparoscopic CS.

The goal of this study was to develop a method for the determination of nine phthalic acid esters in extra virgin olive oils using low-pressure gas chromatography-triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry. Sample preparation was simple, environmental friendly, and rapid inasmuch that it involved only dilution (< 1 mL of hexane). The low-pressure gas chromatography analyses were performed by using a 5 m wide-bore column. The limit of quantification for the phthalates ranged from 0.06 to 1.14 mg kg-1 . Both intra- and interday precisions were measured, with coefficient of variation values ranging from 0.2% to 11.7%. The trueness of the method was measured by evaluating accuracy at the initial stage of the work and after 2 months, with values ranging between -8.7% and 12.1%. Moreover, blind accuracy was comprised between -11.6% and 14.2%. The method involves the use of simplified instrumentation and reduced analysis times (nearly two times faster) compared to a previously published comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry method, leading to a reduction of energy and helium consumption. The approaches were compared in analytical terms and for the environmental impact. In total, 23 olive oil samples were analyzed, with at least one phthalate detected in all but one sample.

PURPOSE: A robotic platform has enabled extremely low-pressure pneumoperitoneum (ELPP, 4 mmHg) to reduce surgical insults to human physiology during a minimally invasive surgery. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of ELPP in single-site robotic cholecystectomy (SSRC) on postoperative pain, shoulder pain, and physiological changes during surgery compared to a standard pressure pneumoperitoneum (SPP, 12-14 mmHg). METHODS: A total of 182 patients who underwent an elective cholecystectomy were randomized into an ELPP SSRC group (n = 91) and an SPP SSRC group (n = 91). Postoperative pain was assessed at 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after surgery. The number of patients complaining of shoulder pain was observed. Intraoperative changes of ventilatory parameters were also measured. RESULTS: Postoperative pain scores (p = 0.038, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p = 0.015 at 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after surgery, respectively) and the number of patients with shoulder pain (p <0.001) were significantly lower in the ELPP SSRC group than in the SPP SSRC group. Intraoperative changes in peak inspiratory pressure (p < 0.001), plateau pressure (p < 0.001), EtCO2 (p < 0.001), and lung compliance (p < 0.001) were also less in the ELPP SSRC group. CONCLUSION: The ELPP during robotic cholecystectomy could significantly relieve postoperative pain and shoulder pain. In addition, the ELPP can reduce changes in lung compliance during surgery and the demand for postoperative analgesics, thereby improving the quality of life of patients during early stages of postoperative rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVE: Acute and chronic hydrocephalus are common pathologies after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Generally, the presence of acute hydrocephalus is associated with elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) treated with a ventricular drain. Subsequently, however, pronounced hydrocephalus without elevated ICP may develop in some patients with SAH in the postacute phase. This is described as acute low-pressure hydrocephalus (aLPH), and there are very limited data in the literature of this pathology. The aim of this study was to evaluate the rate of and factors associated with aLPH and describe its clinical course. METHODS: In this retrospective single-center cohort study, the frequency and clinical characteristics of SAH-associated aLPH were investigated. Acute LPH was defined as an increase in ventricular size as measured by the Evans index, ICP within the normal range (< 5 mm Hg) at the time of ventricular enlargement, and timely neurological improvement after indwelling ventricular CSF drainage with negative pressure up to 5 cm H2O below normal level. Demographic and SAH-specific factors in patients with SAH treated using an external ventricular drain were extracted from the electronic medical chart and further analyzed. RESULTS: From November 2010 to May 2020, 15 (3.7.%) of 406 patients with SAH fulfilled the criteria for aLPH. Acute LPH was diagnosed after an average of 13.1 ± 7.7 days. The presence of IVH and its extension were associated with the occurrence of aLPH. After undergoing the transient phase of aLPH, these patients subsequently developed a chronic, typical malresorptive hydrocephalus requiring a ventriculoperitoneal shunt more often (66.7% vs 17.4%, p < 0.001) and stayed longer in the intensive care unit (27 vs 20.5 days, p = 0.043) and in the hospital (36.4 vs 26.3 days, p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Acute LPH is a rare pathology in patients with SAH and negatively impacts the clinical course. It should be especially considered in patients with a lack of neurological improvement, an increase in ventricular width, and normal ICP values, so that forced CSF drainage is implemented.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) combined with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) has rarely been reported. Herein, we report two patients with SIH who suffered from diffuse non-aneurysmal SAH and expanded the symptom spectrum of SIH. CASE PRESENTATION: (1) A 55-year-old male was diagnosed with SIH based on orthostatic headache and diffuse pachymeningeal enhancement on brain MRI. One more month later, his headache was exacerbated, and brain CT showed diffuse SAH. Lumber puncture showed bloody cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with a low CSF pressure of 20 mmH2O after a 30 mL intrathecal injection of saline. The patient was treated with a lumbar epidural blood patch and recovered. (2) A 41-year-old male presented with orthostatic headache and nuchal pain. The brain CT scan confirmed the diagnosis of SAH. Brain MRI revealed diffuse dural thickening and bilateral frontoparietal subdural fluid collection. Lumber puncture showed bloody CSF with low CSF pressure. Then, an epidural blood patch was performed with satisfactory results. CONCLUSION: Dilation and rupture of intracranial venous structures might play significant roles in SIH combined with SAH. We should be alert to SIH patients who develop a new persistent severe headache without relief after lying down or a suddenly changed state of consciousness.

Low-pressure discharge causes air ionization resulting in performance degeneration or failure for the satellite sensors in outer space. Here, a one-step Crank-Nicolson Direct-Splitting (CNDS) algorithm is proposed to evaluate the electrical behavior of satellite sensors under the low-pressure discharge circumstance. To be more specific, the CNDS algorithm is proposed in the Lorentz medium, which can accurately analyze the ionized air and generated plasma. Higher order perfectly matched layer (PML) is modified in the Lorentz medium to efficiently terminate the unbounded lattice. It can be concluded that the proposed algorithm shows entire considerable performance in the low-pressure discharge evaluation. The proposed PML formulation behaviors enhanced absorbing performance compared with the existing algorithm. Through the experiments, it can be observed that the low-pressure discharge phenomenon causes performance variation, which shows a significant influence on the satellite sensors. Meanwhile, results show considerable agreement between the simulation and experiment results which indicates the effectiveness of the algorithm.
