Because genetic alterations including mutations, overexpression, translocations, and dysregulation of protein kinases are involved in the pathogenesis of many illnesses, this enzyme family is the target of many drug discovery programs worldwide. The FDA has approved 80 small molecule protein kinase inhibitors with 77 drugs orally bioavailable. The data indicate that 69 of these medicinals are approved for the management of neoplasms including solid tumors such as breast and lung cancer as well as non-solid tumors such as leukemia. Moreover, the remaining 11 drugs target non-neoplastic diseases including psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. The cost of drugs was obtained from www.pharmacychecker.com using the FDA label to determine the dosage and number of tablets required per day. This methodology excludes any private or governmental insurance coverage, which would cover the entire cost or more likely a fraction of the stated price. The average monthly cost for the treatment of neoplastic diseases was $17,900 with a price of $44,000 for futibatinib (used to treat cholangiocarcinomas with FGFR2 fusions) and minimum of $5100 for binimetinib (melanoma). The average monthly cost for the treatment of non-neoplastic diseases was $6800 with a maximum of $17,000 for belumosudil (graft vs. host disease) and a minimum of $200 for netarsudil eye drops (glaucoma). There is a negative correlation of the cost of the drugs and the incidence of the targeted disease. Many of these agents are or were designated as orphan drugs meaning that there are fewer than 200,000 potential patients in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) accounts for 90% of all new paediatric HIV infections in Nigeria and for approximately 30% of the global burden. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a training model that incorporated case managers working closely with traditional birth attendants (TBAs) to ensure linkage to care for HIV-positive pregnant women. METHODS: This study was a 3-arm parallel design cluster randomized controlled trial in Ifo and Ado-Odo Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. The study employed a random sampling technique to allocate three distinct TBA associations as clusters. Cluster 1 received training exclusively; Cluster 2 underwent training in addition to the utilization of case managers, and Cluster 3 served as a control group. In total, 240 TBAs were enrolled in the study, with 80 participants in each of the intervention and control groups. and were followed up for a duration of 6 months. We employed a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical test to evaluate the differences between baseline and endline HIV knowledge scores and PMTCT practices. Additionally, bivariate analysis using the chi-square test was used to investigate linkage to care. Furthermore, logistic regression analysis was utilized to identify TBA characteristics associated with various PMTCT interventions, including the receipt of HIV test results and repeat testing at term for HIV-negative pregnant women. The data analysis was performed using Stata version 16.1.877, and we considered results statistically significant when p values were less than 0.05. RESULTS: At the end of this study, there were improvements in the TBAs' HIV and PMTCT-related knowledge within the intervention groups, however, it did not reach statistical significance (p > 0.05). The referral of pregnant clients for HIV testing was highest (93.5%) within cluster 2 TBAs, who received both PMTCT training and case manager support (p ≤ 0.001). The likelihood of HIV-negative pregnant women at term repeating an HIV test was approximately 4.1 times higher when referred by TBAs in cluster 1 (AOR = 4.14; 95% CI [2.82-5.99]) compared to those in the control group and 1.9 times in cluster 2 (AOR = 1.93; 95% CI [1.3-2.89]) compared to the control group. Additionally, older TBAs (OR = 1.62; 95% CI [1.26-2.1]) and TBAs with more years of experience in their practice (OR = 1.45; 95% CI [1.09-1.93]) were more likely to encourage retesting among HIV-negative women at term. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of case managers and PMTCT training was more effective than training alone for TBAs in facilitating the linkage to care of HIV-positive pregnant women, although this effect did not reach statistical significance. Larger-scale studies to further investigate the benefits of case manager support in facilitating the linkage to care for PMTCT of HIV are recommended. PURPOSE: In view of the importance of managers' wellbeing for their leadership behaviour, employee health, and business effectiveness and survival, a better understanding of managers' wellbeing and working conditions is important for creating healthy and sustainable businesses. Previous research has mostly provided a static picture of managers' wellbeing and work in the context of small businesses, missing the variability and dynamism that is characteristic of this context. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore how managers in small companies perceive their working conditions and wellbeing in the context of business growth. METHODS: The study is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with 20 managers from twelve small companies. Content and thematic analysis were applied. RESULTS: The findings indicate that a manager's working environment evolves from its initial stages and through the company's growth, leading to variations over time in the manager's experiences of wellbeing and work-life balance as well as changes in job demands and resources. Managers' working situation becomes less demanding and more manageable when workloads and working hours are reduced and a better work-life balance is achieved. The perceived improvement is related to changes in organizational factors (e.g. company resources), but also to individual factors (e.g. managers' increased awareness of the importance of a sustainable work situation). However, there were differences in how the working conditions and wellbeing changed over time and how organizational and individual resources affected the studied managers' wellbeing. CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that, in the context of small business, managers' working conditions and wellbeing are dynamic and are linked to growth-related changes that occur from the start of organizational activities and during periods of growth. In addition, the findings suggest that changes in managers' working conditions and wellbeing follow different trajectories over time because of the interaction between organizational and personal factors.

BACKGROUND: Common mental disorders (CMD) such as depression, anxiety and stress-related disorders have increased in the working-age population in many countries but are still often associated with social stigma in workplaces. Managers have a key role in supporting employees with impaired health. Identifying factors that can improve stigmatizing attitudes among managers towards CMD is crucial. The aim of this study was to investigate managers' knowledge of CMD on managerial stigma; more specifically knowledge aquired through training and education and through occupational and personal experience of CMD on low managerial stigma towards employee depression. METHODS: Data from a web-based survey conducted in 2017 among 3038 managers in Sweden were used. Managers' attitudes towards employee depression were measured using the Swedish version of the Managerial Stigma towards Employee Depression questionnaire. Binary logistic regression analysis, with adjustments for work setting and managerial experience, was conducted for associations between sources of knowledge of CMD and low managerial stigma. RESULTS: With regard to knowledge acquired through training, medical training on CMD was significantly associated with a higher probability for low managerial stigma towards employee depression after adjustments (odds ratio [OR], 1.95; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.26-3.01), whereas no significant associations were found between knowledge acquired through managerial training on CMD or level of formal education and low managerial stigma. With regard to knowledge acquired through professional and personal experience, occupational experience of treating people with CMD was significantly associated with a higher probability for low managerial stigma (OR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.40-2.94) as was occupational experience of employees with CMD (1 employee: OR, 1.31; 95% CI, 1.04-1.66); >1 employee, OR 1.35 (CI 1.05-1.73). Personal experience of CMD was significantly associated with low managerial stigma (OR, 1.98; 95% CI, 1.60-2.46). CONCLUSIONS: Managers' knowledge and understanding of CMD may increase the probability of a low level of managerial stigma towards employees with depression. Managers' professional and/or personal experiences of CMD were important sources of knowledge in relation to a low level of stigmatizing attitudes. Organizations should encourage the use of managers' experience-based knowledge of CMD in addition to training on CMD to reduce managerial stigma.

BACKGROUND: Isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) works to prevent tuberculosis (TB) among people living with HIV (PLHIV), but uptake remains low in Sub-Saharan Africa. In this analysis, we sought to identify barriers mid-level managers face in scaling IPT in Uganda and the mechanisms by which the SEARCH-IPT trial intervention influenced their abilities to increase IPT uptake. METHODS: The SEARCH-IPT study was a cluster randomized trial conducted from 2017-2021. The SEARCH-IPT intervention created collaborative groups of district health managers, facilitated by local HIV and TB experts, and provided leadership and management training over 3-years to increase IPT uptake in Uganda. In this qualitative study we analyzed transcripts of annual Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews, from a subset of SEARCH-IPT participants from intervention and control groups, and participant observation field notes. We conducted the analysis using inductive and deductive coding (with a priori codes and those derived from analysis) and a framework approach for data synthesis. RESULTS: When discussing factors that enabled positive outcomes, intervention managers described feeling ownership over interventions, supported by the leadership and management training they received in the SEARCH-IPT study, and the importance of collaboration between districts facilitated by the intervention. In contrast, when discussing factors that impeded their ability to make changes, intervention and control managers described external funders setting agendas, lack of collaboration in meetings that operated with more of a 'top-down' approach, inadequate supplies and staffing, and lack of motivation among frontline providers. Intervention group managers mentioned redistribution of available stock within districts as well as between districts, reflecting efforts of the SEARCH-IPT intervention to promote between-district collaboration, whereas control group managers mentioned redistribution within their districts to maximize the use of available IPT stock. CONCLUSIONS: In Uganda, mid-level managers' perceptions of barriers to scaling IPT included limited power to set agendas and control over funding, inadequate resources, lack of motivation of frontline providers, and lack of political prioritization. We found that the SEARCH-IPT intervention supported managers to design and implement strategies to improve IPT uptake and collaborate between districts. This may have contributed to the overall intervention effect in increasing the uptake of IPT among PLHIV compared to standard practice. BACKGROUND: COVID-19 impacted the mental health of healthcare workers, who endured pressures as they provided care during a prolonged crisis. We aimed to explore whether and how a Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) approach was reflected in qualitative perspectives from healthcare leaders of their experience during COVID-19 (2020-2021). METHODS: Semi-structured interviews with healthcare leaders from four institutions were conducted. Data analysis consisted of four stages informed by interpretative phenomenological analysis: 1) deductive coding using TIC assumptions, 2) inductive thematic analysis of coded excerpts, 3) keyword-in-context coding of full transcripts for 6 TIC principles with integration into prior inductive themes, and 4) interpretation of themes through 6 TIC principles (safety; trustworthiness and transparency; peer support; collaboration and mutuality; empowerment, voice, and choice; and awareness of cultural, historical, and gender issues). RESULTS: The actions of leaders (n = 28) that were reported as successful and supportive responses to the COVID-19 pandemic or else missed opportunities reflected core principles of Trauma-Informed Care. To promote safety, leaders reported affirmative efforts to protect staff by providing appropriate physical protection, and enhanced psychological safety by providing channels for communication about emotional well-being. To promote trustworthiness and transparency, leaders listened to their staff, shared current COVID-19 information, and increased frequency of meetings to disseminate accurate information. To promote mutual support, strategies included wellness check-ins, sharing uplifting stories, affirming common goals, articulating fears, and leading by example. Examples of empowerment included: making time and adjusting modalities for flexible communication; naming challenges outside of the hospital; and functioning as a channel for complaints. Reported missed opportunities included needing more dedicated time and space for healthcare employees to process emotions, failures in leadership managing their own anxiety, and needing better support for middle managers. Awareness of the TIC principle of cultural, historical, and gender issues was largely absent. Results informed the nascent Trauma-Informed Healthcare Leadership (TIHL) framework. CONCLUSIONS: We propose the Trauma-Informed Healthcare Leadership framework as a useful schema for action and analysis. This approach yields recommendations for healthcare leaders including creating designated spaces for emotional processing, and establishing consistent check-ins that reference personal and professional well-being.

BACKGROUND: This study explores the impact of decentralized management on the sickness absence among healthcare professionals. Sickness absence is a reliable indicator of employees' wellbeing and it is linked to management quality. However, the influence of decentralized management on sickness absence has not been adequately studied. METHODS: The research design combined a two-wave, web-survey of frontline managers in two Danish university hospitals with administrative data on sickness absence at the ward-level. The first and second wave included data from 163165 and 137 frontline managers linked to 121 wards and 108 wards. Data was analysed using an ordinal logistic regression model. RESULTS: Wards where frontline managers had the highest level of decentralised decision authority compared to none showed lower odds of ward-level sickness absence (ORcrude: 0.20, 95% CI: 0.05-0.87). A very high extent of cross-functional decision authority showed lower odds of sickness absence (ORcrude: 0.08, 95% CI: 0.01-0.49). Overall, the results showed a clear data trend, although not all results were statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Higher levels of decentralized management in wards were positively associated with lower risks of sickness absence in hospital wards. The study supports future research on how to empower decision autonomy at the frontline level of management.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the Nordic municipal health and care services' ability to promote principal goals within care for older people during the COVID-19 pandemic. DESIGN AND SETTING: Two surveys were conducted among managers of municipal health care services for older people in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden; the first around 6 months into the pandemic (survey 1), and the second around 12 months later (survey 2). Data were analysed through descriptive statistics, and multiple regression (OLS). SUBJECTS: 1470 (survey 1, 2020) and 745 (survey 2, 2021) managers. 32% in home care, 51% in nursing homes, 17% combined. RESULTS: In all countries the pandemic seems to have had more negative impact on eldercare services' ability to promote an active and social life, than on the ability to promote or enhance older people's mental and physical health. The regression analysis indicates that different factors influence the ability to promote these goals. Managers within nursing homes reported reduced ability to promote mental and physical health and an active social life to a significantly lower degree than managers of home care. The effect of three prevention strategies (lock down, testing, and/or organisational change), were explored. Organisational change (reorganize staff and practice, restrict use of substitutes) tended to impact the units' ability to promote a social life in a positive direction, while lock down (areas, buffets etc) tended to impact both the ability to promote mental/physical health and a social life in a negative direction. CONCLUSION: Measures that can improve opportunities for an active and social life during a pandemic should have high priority, particularily within home care.


It is important to learn from how the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 affected the municipal health and care services' ability to achieve principal goals within care for older people.The pandemic had a more negative impact on the services' ability to promote an active and social life, than on their ability to promote or enhance mental and physical health.Measures that can improve opportunities for an active and social life during a pandemic situation should have high priority, particularily within home-based care.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges for managers overseeing women's harm reduction centers. This study seeks to capture managers' perspectives on the service providing in women's harm reduction centers during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: This convergent mixed-method study conducted in three provinces of Iran: Tehran, Khuzestan, and Kermanshah. The study was carried out between January and May 2023. In the quantitative part, the researchers utilized reports from 10 center managers. A researcher-designed questionnaire was employed to collect data on a wide range of services and referrals provided by the centers. The qualitative part of the research involved conventional content analysis and included 12 individual interviews. Two directors from the Ministry of Health and ten managers of women's harm reduction centers participated in the interviews. During the interpretation phase, the researchers compared the quantitative and qualitative findings to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the topic. RESULTS: During the quantitative stage of the study, it was observed that all the managers were women, with an average age of 40.7 ± 7 years. More than half of the managers had obtained a postgraduate education (n = 6, 60%), and a majority of them were married (n = 7, 70%). Additionally, 40% of the managers (n = 4) were working as contractors. During the non-COVID-19 period, there were higher coverage by centers and residents, more referrals of non-injecting drug users and sex workers, and a higher number of group counseling sessions in all three provinces compared to the COVID-19 period. The qualitative analysis revealed two primary themes: "challenges" and "capabilities." CONCLUSIONS: During the COVID-19 pandemic, providing some services and client referrals decreased in the centers, and center managers faced increased challenges. Many of these challenges were in the communication, executive, management, structure, education, financial, civilization, facilities, and socio-cultural sectors. Managers used their skills to manage and control these challenges. It is important to focus on these challenges and managerial capabilities to effectively handle future crises.

BACKGROUND: Although studies have demonstrated that the use of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is on the rise in the United States, it remains unclear how this trend looks across the hierarchical ladder of the American workforce. This is relevant given that LSD is increasingly being touted as a means of boosting creativity and performance, with mounting anecdotal evidence that business managers in particular are turning to it for inspiration and insight. METHODS: Using pooled cross-sectional data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2006-2014) on 168,920 adults in the United States employed full-time (weighted = 117,270,940), this study investigates how temporal trends in past year LSD use differ among business managers and non-managers. RESULTS: The results suggest that the prevalence of past year LSD use increased over time at a greater rate among business managers than non-managers and that this difference cannot be accounted for by changes in business managers' perceived risk of LSD use or general substance use relative to non-managers. CONCLUSIONS: The study's findings indicate that temporal trends in past year LSD use depend on employees' hierarchical rank in their organization and suggest that business managers, regardless of gender, are becomingly increasingly interested in the potential competitive advantages that LSD may offer.

AIMS: To explore the association between nurse managers' paternalistic leadership and nurses' perceived workplace bullying (WPB), as well as to examine the mediating role of organizational climate in this association. BACKGROUND: There is a lack of empirical evidence regarding the relationship between nurse managers' paternalistic leadership, organizational climate and nurses' perceived WPB. Clarifying this relationship is crucial to understand how paternalistic leadership influences WPB and for nursing managers to seek organizational-level solutions to prevent it. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was performed from 4 January to 10 February 2022, in six tertiary hospitals in mainland China. Demographic information, Paternalistic Leadership Scale, Organizational Climate Scale and Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised were used in the survey. Descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation analyses and a structural equation model were used for data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 5093 valid questionnaires were collected. Moral leadership and authoritarian leadership have both direct and indirect effects on WPB through the mediating effect of organizational climate. The former is negatively related to WPB and the latter is positively related to WPB. Benevolent leadership was only negatively associated with WPB via the mediating effect of organizational climate. CONCLUSION: The three components of paternalistic leadership have different effects on WPB through the mediating effect of organizational climate. Nurse managers are recommended to strengthen moral leadership, balance benevolent leadership, reduce authoritarian leadership and strive to create a positive organizational climate in their efforts to mitigate WPB among nurses. IMPACT: This study enhanced our comprehension of the relationship between different leadership styles and WPB. Greater emphasis should be placed on moral leadership in the promotion of nursing managers and nursing leadership training programs. Additionally, nursing managers should focus on establishing a positive organizational climate that helps to reduce WPB. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: No patient or public contribution. This study did not involve patients, service users, caregivers or members of the public.

AIM: To explore the prospective acceptability of an implementation leadership training programme prototype for nurse managers in China to implement evidence-based practices, from the perspectives of potential programme participants and deliverers. DESIGN: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted in Spring 2022 at three tertiary hospitals in Hunan, China. METHODS: We conducted individual semi-structured interviews with unit-level nurse managers (n = 14), including 12 potential participants, and two potential deliverers that have been involved in developing the programme prototype. Interview questions and thematic analysis were guided by the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability. RESULTS: After reviewing the programme content, potential participants and deliverers reported that unit nurse managers would benefit from engaging in the programme, acknowledging that the programme fit with professional nursing values for implementing research evidence. They expressed positive views about being involved in producing academic papers through the training process, and interactive multi-modal training activities such as group work, experience-sharing and coaching. Seven participants were not very confident about being fully engaged in the training, as they could not navigate the English research literature. Both participants and deliverers highlighted factors that would influence their participation, including time constraints, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and support from senior organizational leadership. CONCLUSIONS: The training programme prototype was perceived to be useful and acceptable. The multimodal training activities were considered a strength and managers expressed an interest in writing academic papers about their implementation processes. Support from senior hospital leaders and programme deliverers was identified as critical to the training programme's success. IMPACT: The study helps understand nurse managers' perceptions and concerns of participating in an implementation leadership training programme and could inform the development and refinement of similar programmes in various nursing contexts globally.

AIM: The aim of the present study was to describe nurse managers' perceptions of the provision of mentoring for newly graduated registered nurses (NGRNs) and its contribution to the work environment in a hospital setting. BACKGROUND: Nurse managers are responsible for the work environment and for supporting the staff's professional development, which includes giving NGRNs organizational support during their introduction to the workplace. Mentorship is one common way to provide support, but there is a lack of knowledge about how nurse managers view this support. DESIGN/METHOD: This was a qualitative descriptive study, using a semi-structured interview guide. Fifteen individual interviews with nurse managers were performed in hospital settings. The interview transcripts were analysed using qualitative content analysis. The COREQ guidelines and checklist were used. RESULTS: The results describe the nurse managers' perceptions of the provision of mentoring in three themes: Ensuring and sustaining mentoring for new nurses' needs is a struggle in the harsh reality of healthcare, Identifying mentors who are willing and possess the necessary competence for the assignment and Promoting a secure and attractive workplace by mentoring new nurses. CONCLUSIONS: Our study confirms that nurse managers are important in the provision of mentoring for NGRNs' learning and professional development. Mentoring has a positive spillover effect on the entire unit as a sustainable approach to securing and improving the work environment. Our study also identifies challenges for nurse managers to structure mentoring provision. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: This study highlights the importance of investment in mentoring for the NGRNs' professional development and for patient care. Support is needed from the top level of the organization, but how mentoring should be structured and facilitated needs to be investigated further.

AIM: This study aims to explore middle managers' perception of nursing professional competence within the Norwegian primary healthcare service, a sector vital for managing complex patient needs. DESIGN/METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four middle managers across different municipalities in Norway. Qualitative content analyses, following Graneheim and Lundman, were used for analysing the transcription of the interviews and the data collected. FINDINGS: The qualitative content analysis revealed three main themes: the significance of advanced competence, challenges related to competence development and the necessity for defining advanced competence. The findings indicate that middle managers recognise the importance of advanced nursing competence in providing comprehensive patient care, notwithstanding challenges in manpower and competence enhancement. CONCLUSION: This research underlines the significance of investing in increased competence and improved management in primary healthcare and offers valuable insights for healthcare policy and practice to enhance patient care.

OBJECTIVE: To examine professional support workers and case managers' (professional carers) perspectives of what promoted or compromised oral health care in homebound adults aged over 65 years in Perth, Western Australia and identify professional carers' need for support in this context. BACKGROUND: Accessing dental services can be difficult to navigate and unaffordable for homebound older adults. Paid carers often play a substantial role in facilitating access to services yet there is limited qualitative evidence of the perspectives of these stakeholders. METHODS: Given limited evidence in this area, this simple qualitative study was informed by constructivist grounded theory. Participants comprised 15 professional carers of homebound older adults. Transcripts were analysed to identify participant perceptions of key barriers and enablers to providing oral health care. RESULTS: Barriers to clients accessing dental care included participants' uncertainty around navigating the dental system, low priority of oral health care, affordability and confusion around who was responsible to provide oral care. Enablers included participants supporting clients' autonomy around oral care, better integration of oral care into primary health care and education and opportunity for training for professional carers. CONCLUSION: Ensuring oral health is part of primary health plans, clarifying roles and responsibilities around delivering oral health care to homebound older adults and training carers were key findings. Inter-sectoral collaboration between the dental and aged care sectors can benefit dental practitioners and professional carers in shared learning and has likely flow-on effects for homebound older adults.

BACKGROUND: Authentic leadership is an emerging perspective in leadership that focuses on leaders' values and beliefs. while the mindfulness perspective permits nurse managers to be fully present, aware of themselves and their impact on others, and aware of their reactions in stressful situations. so, authentic leadership and mindfulness if combined create nurse managers who have clearer, more focused thinking, and a growth mindset that help subordinates improve and grow. as well as mindfulness-based interventions help them to improve interpersonal relationships with patients and colleagues, and to take better care of themselves and others. AIM: The present study aims to; explore the effect of authentic leadership and mindfulness educational program on nursing managers' competencies in hospital. METHODS: A quasi-experimental design (Quantitative pre-, post-, and follow-up design) was used to conduct the study at Shirbeen General Hospital, Egypt. The study subjects consist of a purposive sample of 70 nurse managers and 226 nurses. Three tools used for data collection consisted of; the authentic leadership questionnaire, the five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, and the managerial competencies of Nurse Managers. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 20, Qualitative categorical variables were compared using the chi-square test. A significant level value was considered when the p-value ≤ 0.05, and Cohen's d was used to measure the effect size which indicated there was a large effect of educational program on post and follow-up knowledge, authentic leadership, mindfulness, and managerial competencies scores. RESULTS: The current study revealed that there were significant differences between nurse managers' knowledge, authentic leadership, mindfulness, and managerial competencies (P = 0.001) pre-, post-, and after 3 months of the program. As determined by Cohen's d test, there was a large effect of educational program on post and follow-up knowledge, authentic leadership, mindfulness, and managerial competencies scores. CONCLUSION: The educational program about authentic leadership and mindfulness had a positive effect on nurse managers' managerial competencies. AIM: This study aimed to investigate the influence of green transformational leadership educational intervention on nurse managers' green behavior and creativity. BACKGROUND: Organizational creativity is greatly influenced by leaders and their personality attributes. Additionally, innovative employee behavior is crucial for organizational performance and survival, which in turn promotes long-term organizational growth. METHOD: A quasi-experimental design was conducted by using pre-test, post-test, and follow-up for a group that included 116 nurse managers who completed the intervention. Data were collected through the green transformational leadership knowledge questionnaire, green transformational leadership scale, green behavior questionnaire, and green creativity scale. RESULTS: Following the implementation of the Green Transformational Leadership educational intervention, there was an improvement in responses connected to the nurse manager's use of green behavior and creativity. Three months after the intervention ended, the improvement was still present. CONCLUSION: Nurse managers who had good knowledge about green transformational leadership showed increased green behavior and green creativity, which enhanced the organization's success. This study showed the significance of developing and improving the skills of managerial creativity for the nurse supervisor of a hospital through training in transformational leadership. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: The concept of "green transformational leadership" refers to leadership behaviors and strategies aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and responsibility within an organization or a specific context. In the case we mentioned, it involves implementing educational interventions targeted at nurse managers to enhance their understanding and adoption of green practices, as well as fostering green behavior and creativity among them.

BACKGROUND: Organizational justice is pivotal in fostering a fair and supportive workplace culture, which strengthens the connections between managers and nurses, among nurses themselves, and ultimately, between nurses and their patients. Assessing the perceived levels of organizational justice and managerial behaviors can identify key areas for improving nurses' commitment and loyalty, while simultaneously reducing incidents of workplace bullying. PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate how bedside nurses perceive organizational justice, nurse managers' caring behaviors, and their exposure to workplace bullying. Additionally, it seeks to explore the relationship between organizational justice, nurse managers' caring behaviors, and nurses' perceived exposure to workplace bullying. METHODS: A descriptive-correlational study was conducted in the inpatient care unit of a Saudi hospital. A convenience sample of 256 nurses participated, completing the Organizational Justice Questionnaire (OJQ), the Caring Factor Survey: Caring of the Manager (CFS-CM), and the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. RESULTS: Descriptive statistics revealed moderate levels of perceived organizational justice and managerial caring behaviors among nurses, alongside low reported exposure to workplace bullying. Significant correlations were found among the studied variables, indicating that higher perceived organizational justice was associated with higher managerial caring and lower workplace bullying (p < 0.05). Mediation analysis demonstrated a significant indirect effect of organizational justice on workplace bullying through the mediating role of nurse managers' caring behaviors (a×b = -0.0652, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the direct effect of organizational justice on workplace bullying remained significant even when accounting for the mediator (c = -0.5509, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study highlights the vital role of organizational justice and managerial caring in cultivating a positive work environment and mitigating workplace bullying. Implementing clear policies and procedures while promoting fairness and equality in resource allocation, decision-making processes, and interactions are essential strategies for fostering positive attitudes and work behaviors among nurses.

AIM: To determine the effects of perceived workplace loneliness on life satisfaction among nurses working as managers. BACKGROUND: Nurses working as managers often encounter negative situations, and their consequences extend beyond their professional responsibilities to encompass nonprofessional domains, including life satisfaction. METHODS: This study enrolled 158 nurse managers (NMs) after gaining their consent. Data from the descriptive cross-sectional study were obtained using the "Descriptive Information Form," "Loneliness in Work Life Scale," and "Life Satisfaction Scale." The relationship between relevant scales was assessed using Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple linear regression. FINDINGS: A moderately strong, negative, and significant relationship was observed between work life-related loneliness and life satisfaction among NMs. Multiple regression analysis revealed that three independent variables-two LAWS subscales and the job satisfaction status-significantly affected NMs' life satisfaction (adjusted R2 = 0.39, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Perceived loneliness and professional satisfaction are important predictors of life satisfaction among NMs. Thus, it is crucial to determine the factors that negatively affect the professional satisfaction and perceived loneliness of nurses working as managers and to implement psychosocial interventions in such cases. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY: This study demonstrates the significance of identifying problems in the professional lives of NMs, who are involved in planning nursing services and implementing interventions to address these problems.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare systems recognize evidence-based practice (EBP) as the prestigious standard for providing safe and high-quality patient care, nursing excellence, and Magnet Recognition. Despite the well-documented benefits, implementation of EBP is inconsistent and remains elusive in the US and throughout the world and many patients still fail to receive evidence-based care. The literature revealed a huge gap between nursing science and practice but provided evidence that nurse managers (NMs) had a pivotal leadership role in implementing EBP. AIM: To gain a deeper understanding of Magnet-recognized hospital nurse managers' (MRHNMs) leadership roles, the influencing factors, and their experience in implementing EBP to enhance EBP initiatives and sustain Magnet recognition. METHOD: This mixed-method study guided by Goodall's (Australasian Psychiatry, 2016. 24, 231) theory of expert leadership used a sequential explanatory method with a quantitative-driven design based on a national correlational survey augmented by a qualitative descriptive component using semi-structured interviews. RESULTS: The findings of the study demonstrated that MRHNMs had a 54.6% effective leadership role in implementing EBP and produced numerous themes indicating that MRHNMs did implement EBP with struggle. MRHNMs in this study viewed EBP as a healthcare priority and leadership of NMs is necessary to promote EBP. However, lack of knowledge, difficulties with the EBP process, time constraints, and staffing issues negatively impacted EBP. Postgraduate degree, formal EBP education, critical care units as workplace, collaboration with doctorally prepared nurses, and Magnet culture enhanced EBP among MRHNMs. LINKING EVIDENCE TO ACTION: EBP is essential for Magnet recognition and is a hallmark of nursing excellence, however, is a complex and challenging process. The leadership of NMs is necessary to shape evidence-based care, and NMs require EBP preparation during leadership training, necessary resources, and time to complete the EBP process. EBP cannot become a reality without leaders being engaged, supportive, and persistent.
