PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the matching error that occurs when the Mobius3D fingerprinting system is applied in conjunction with an Elekta linear accelerator (LINAC) and to offer an acceptable and alternative method for circumventing this problem. MATERIAL AND METHODS: To avoid the multileaf collimator (MLC) conflicting error in the Mobius3D fingerprinting system, we developed an in-house program to move the MLC in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) radiotherapy (RT)-Plan to pertinent positions, considering the relationship between log data and planned data. The re-delivered log files were calculated in the Mobius3D system, and the results were compared with those of corrected data (i.e., we analyzed a pair of re-collected log data and the previous DICOM RT-Plan data). The results were then evaluated by comparing several items, such as point dose errors, gamma index (GI) passing rates, and MLC root-mean-square (RMS) values. RESULTS: For the point dose error, the maximum difference found was below 2.0%. In the case of GI analysis of all plans, the maximum difference in the passing rates was below 1.4%. The statistical results obtained using a paired Student's t-test showed that there were no significant differences within the uncertainty. In the case of the RMS test, the maximum difference found was approximately 0.08 mm. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that all the mismatched log files were sufficiently acceptable within the uncertainty. We conclude that the matching error obtained when applying Mobius3D to an Elekta LINAC may be addressed using a simple modification of the fingerprinting system, and we expect that our study findings will help vendors resolve this issue in the near future.

A VCF-based mode-matching micromachine-optimized tuning fork gyroscope is proposed to not only maximize the scale factor of the device, but also avoid use of an additional quadrature-nulling loop to prevent structure complexity, pick-up electrode occupation, and coupling with a mode-matching loop. In detail, a mode-matching, closed-loop system without a quadrature-nulling loop is established, and the corresponding convergence and matching error are quantitatively analyzed. The optimal straight beam of the gyro structure is then modeled to significantly reduce the quadrature coupling. The test results show that the frequency split is narrowed from 20 Hz to 0.014 Hz. The scale factor is improved 20.6 times and the bias instability (BI) is suppressed 3.28 times. The observed matching accuracy demonstrates that a mode matching system without a quadrature suppression loop is feasible and that the proposed device represents a competitive design for a mode-matching gyroscope.

A reconfigurable hearing aid is a generic type that can be used for various hearing disabilities without modifying the device hardware. This requires several trials to identify the best matching with the impaired person's audiogram. The objective of this paper is to propose a novel reconfigurable hearing aid of low complexity with auto-adapting capability which makes it suitable for different types of hearing disabilities ranging from mild to severe intensities. The audio spectrum is divided into three regions and for each region, four different schemes are proposed. An automatic selection of the optimum scheme is proposed for all the regions based on hearing thresholds. Octave and fractional interpolation techniques are performed on a Parks-McClellan based prototype filter to generate the various sub-bands in the reconfigurable filter bank structure. The proposed structure uses only 18 coefficient multipliers which save up to 92% of multipliers when compared to other designs. The delay and matching errors are within the globally accepted limits. The hardware implementation executed on Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA development board has reaffirmed that the structure is compact and power-efficient. The proposed auto-reconfigurable structure can be used for various types of hearing impairments and can avoid the manual interventions for the selection of schemes in audiogram matching. This in turn minimizes the time to establish the best match with the audiogram. Since the proposed structure has minimal complexity, cost-effective implementation of the device is also possible.
