RESUMO

In this paper, an assessment of the uncertainty affecting a hybrid procedure (experimental/numerical) is carried out to validate it for industrial applications, at the least. The procedure in question serves to depict 3D incompressible flow fields by using 2D measurements of it and computing the third velocity component by means of the continuity equation. A quasi-3D test case of an incompressible flow has been inspected in the wake of a NACA 0012 airfoil immersed in a forced flow of water running in a rectangular open channel. Specifically, starting from a 2D measurement data in planes orthogonal to the stream-wise direction, the computational approach can predict the third flow velocity component. A 3D ADV instrument has been utilized to measure the flow field, but only two velocity components have been considered as measured quantities, while the third one has been considered as reference with which to compare the computed component from the continuity equation to check the accuracy and validity of the hybrid procedure. At this aim, the uncertainties of the quantities have been evaluated, according to the GUM, to assess the agreement between experiments and predictions, in addition to other metrics. This aspect of uncertainty is not a technical sophistication but a substantial way to bring to the use of a 1D and 2D measurement system in lieu of a 3D one, which is costly in terms of maintenance, calibration, and economic issues. Moreover, the magnitude of the most relevant flow indicators by means of experimental data and predictions have been estimated and compared, for further confirmation by means of a supervised learning classification. Further, the sensed data have been processed, by means of a machine learning algorithm, to express them in a 3D way along with accuracy and epoch metrics. Two additional metrics have been included in the effort to show paramount interest, which are a geostatistical estimator and Sobol sensitivity. The statements of this paper can be used to design and test several devices for industrial purposes more easily.

RESUMO

Sensor differential signals are widely used in many systems. The tracking differentiator (TD) is an effective method to obtain signal differentials. Differential calculation is noise-sensitive. There is the characteristics of low-pass filter (LPF) in the TD to suppress the noise, but phase lag is introduced. For LPF, fixed filtering parameters cannot achieve both noise suppression and phase compensation lag compensation. We propose a fuzzy self-tuning tracking differentiator (FSTD) capable of adaptively adjusting parameters, which uses the frequency information of the signal to achieve a trade-off between the phase lag and noise suppression capabilities. Based on the frequency information, the parameters of TD are self-tuning by a fuzzy method, which makes self-tuning designs more flexible. Simulations and experiments using motion measurement sensors show that the proposed method has good filtering performance for low-frequency signals and improves tracking ability for high-frequency signals compared to fixed-parameter differentiator.

RESUMO

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) plays an important role in nanoscale imaging application. AFM works by oscillating a microcantilever on the surface of the sample being scanned. In this process, estimating the amplitude of the cantilever deflection signal plays an important role in characterizing the topography of the surface. Existing approaches on this topic either have slow dynamic response e.g., lock-in-amplifier or high computational complexity e.g., Kalman filter. In this context, gradient estimator can be considered as a trade-off between fast dynamic response and high computational complexity. However, no constructive tuning rule is available in the literature for gradient estimator. In this paper, we consider small-signal modeling and tuning of gradient estimator. The proposed approach greatly simplifies the tuning procedure. Numerical simulation and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the suitability of the proposed tuning procedure.

RESUMO

This paper introduces a new current-controlled current-amplifier suitable for precise measurement applications. This amplifier was developed with strong emphasis on linearity leading to low total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output signal, and on linearity of the gain control. The presented circuit is characterized by low input and high output impedances. Current consumption is significantly smaller than with conventional quadratic current multipliers and is comparable in order to the maximum processed input current, which is ±200 µA. This circuit is supposed to be used in many sensor applications, as well as a precise current multiplier for general analog current signal processing. The presented amplifier (current multiplier) was designed by an uncommon topology based on linear sub-blocks using MOS transistors working in their linear region. The described circuit was designed and fabricated in a C035 I3T25 0.35-µm ON Semiconductor process because of the demand of the intended application for higher supply voltage. Nevertheless, the topology is suitable also for modern smaller CMOS technologies and lower supply voltages. The performance of the circuit was verified by laboratory measurement with parameters comparable to the Cadence simulation results and presented here.

RESUMO

Cultural heritage sites, apart from being the tangible link to a country's history and culture, actively contribute to the national economy, offering a foundation upon which cultural tourism can develop. This importance at the cultural and economic level, advocates for the need for preservation of cultural heritage sites for the future generations. To this end, advanced monitoring systems harnessing the power of sensors are deployed near the sites to collect data which can fuel systems and processes aimed at protection and preservation. In this paper we present the use of acoustic sensors for safeguarding cultural sites located in rural or urban areas, based on a novel data flow framework. We developed and deployed Wireless Acoustic Sensors Networks that record audio signals, which are transferred to a modular cloud platform to be processed using an efficient deep learning algorithm (f1-score: 0.838) to identify audio sources of interest for each site, taking into account the materials the assets are made of. The extracted information is presented exploiting the designed STORM Audio Signal ontology and then fused with spatiotemporal information using semantic rules. The results of this work give valuable insight to the cultural experts and are publicly available using the Linked Open Data format.

RESUMO

To improve the parameter estimation performance of uncooperative Orthogonal Frequency Division Multi- (OFDM) Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) radar signals, this paper proposes an iterative high-accuracy method, which is based on Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT) and Fractional Autocorrelation (FA) interpolation. Two iterative estimators for rotation angle and center frequencies are derived from the analytical formulations of the OFDM-LFM signal. Both estimators are designed by measuring the residual terms between the quasi peak and the real peak in the fractional spectrum, which were obtained from the finite sampling data. Successful elimination of spectral leakage caused by multiple components of the OFDM-LFM signal is also proposed by a sequential removal of the strong coefficient in the fractional spectrum through an iterative process. The method flow is given and its superior performance is demonstrated by the simulation results.

RESUMO

Blind image restoration algorithms for motion blur have been deeply researched in the past years. Although great progress has been made, blurred images containing large blur and rich, small details still cannot be restored perfectly. To deal with these problems, we present a robust image restoration algorithm for motion blur of general image sensors in this paper. Firstly, we propose a self-adaptive structure extraction method based on the total variation (TV) to separate the reliable structures from textures and small details of a blurred image which may damage the kernel estimation and interim latent image restoration. Secondly, we combine the reliable structures with priors of the blur kernel, such as sparsity and continuity, by a two-step method with which noise can be removed during iterations of the estimation to improve the precision of the estimated blur kernel. Finally, we use a MR-based Wiener filter as the non-blind deconvolution algorithm to restore the final latent image. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm can restore large blur images with rich, small details effectively.

RESUMO

A cerebral infarction (CI), often known as a stroke, is a cognitive impairment in which a group of brain cells perishes from a lack of blood supply. The early prediction and evaluation of this problem are essential to avoid atrial fibrillation, heart valve disease, and other cardiac disorders. Different clinical strategies like Computerized tomography (CT) scans, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and Carotid (ka-ROT-id) ultrasound are available to diagnose this problem. However, these methods are time-consuming and expensive. Wearable devices based on photoplethysmography (PPG) are gaining prevalence in diagnosing various cardiovascular diseases. This work uses the PPG signal to classify the CI subjects from the normal. We propose an automated framework and fiducial point-independent approach to predict CI with sufficient accuracy. The experiment is performed with a publicly available database having PPG and other physiological data of 219 individuals. The best validation and test accuracy of 91.8% and 91.3% are obtained after diagnosis with Coarse Gaussian SVM. The proposed work aims to extract cerebral infarction pathology by extracting relevant entropy features from higher order PPG derivatives for the prediction of CI and offers a simple, automated and inexpensive approach for early detection of CI and promotes awareness for the subjects to undergo further treatment to avoid major disorders.

RESUMO

A multi-sensor information fusion algorithm based on fault-tolerant Kalman filter is proposed in phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometer (Φ-OTDR) system, for achieving fading-free distributed vibration sensing. Firstly, a fault-tolerant dual-core complementary array model is designed. The Rayleigh scattering signal denoising, and vibration existence judgment of localization points are carried out to obtain the differentiated frequency demodulation results of the sensing points of the dual-core fiber array. Then a fault-tolerant control strategy is used to determine the sensor weight coefficients and vibration judgment coefficients during data fusion processing, and array data fusion is carried out based on time series data using Kalman filter to realize error value identification and filling. The advantage of this method is the combination of redundant data in a complementary way to improve the system stability. The frequency response ranges from 10 Hz to 2400 Hz and the localization accuracy is 98.33%. The influence of key parameters on the frequency demodulation performance of fault-tolerant Kalman filter is discussed, and a standard deviation of 14.6 Hz and an average error of 7.6 Hz are obtained. The demodulation frequency data matrix obtained by the classical demodulation method has a demodulation error probability of 89.18%, which proves the widespread existence of demodulation errors in vibration signals. The fusion error of demodulation frequency is reduced to 0.25 Hz, the frequency demodulation accuracy reaches 100%, and the demodulation error caused by interference attenuation can be completely eliminated. This system based on fault-tolerant Kalman filter has the characteristics of simple multiplexing structure, interference fading resistance and stable demodulation performance.

RESUMO

Most chemical sensors are only partially selective to any specific target analyte(s), making identification and quantification of analyte mixtures challenging, a problem often addressed using arrays of partially selective sensors. This work presents and experimentally verifies a signal-processing technique based on estimation theory for online identification and quantification of multiple analytes using only the response data collected from a single polymer-coated sensor device. The demonstrated technique, based on multiple stages of exponentially weighted recursive least-squares estimation (EW-RLSE), first determines which of the analytes included in the sensor response model are absent from the mixture being analyzed; these are then eliminated from the model prior to executing the final stage of EW-RLSE, in which the sample's constituent analytes are more accurately quantified. The overall method is based on a sensor response model with specific parameters describing each coating-analyte pair and requires no initial assumptions regarding the concentrations of the analytes in a given sample. The technique was tested using the measured responses of polymer-coated shear-horizontal surface acoustic wave devices to multi-analyte mixtures of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene in water. The results demonstrate how this method accurately identifies and quantifies the analytes present in a sample using the measured response of just a single sensor device. This effective, simple, lower-cost alternative to sensor arrays needs no arduous training protocol, just measurement of the response characteristics of each individual target analyte and the likely interferents and/or classes thereof.

RESUMO

A new approach is reported to detect and quantify the members of a group of small-aromatic-molecule target analytes: benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), dissolved in water, in the presence of interferents, using only the data collected from a single polymer-coated SH-SAW (shear horizontal surface acoustic wave) device and a two-stage adaptive estimation scheme. This technique is composed of exponentially weighted recursive least-squares estimation (EW-RLSE) and a bank of Kalman filters (BKFs) and does not require any prior knowledge of the initial concentration range of the target analytes. The proposed approach utilizes the transient sensor response to sorption and/or desorption of the analytes as well as the error range associated with the response time constants to provide more information about the analyte-specific interactions with the polymer film. The approach assumes that the sensor response to contaminated groundwater is a linear combination of the responses to the single target analytes, the interferents that interact with the selected polymer sensor coatings, and measurement noise. The proposed technique was tested using actual sensor responses to contaminated groundwater samples containing multiple BTEX compounds with concentrations ranging from 10 to 2000 parts per billion, as well as common interferents including ethanol, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, naphthalene, n-heptane, and MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether). Estimated concentration values, accurate to ±10% for benzene/toluene and ±15% for ethylbenzene/xylenes, are obtained in near-real time. The utilization of sorption and/or desorption data enables detection and quantification of BTEX compounds with improved accuracy, high tolerance to measurement noise, and improved chemical selectivity.
