The placenta is essential for fetal development but its in vivo study, including the study of placental perfusion is still very limited to date. MRI is a safe examination that offers new perspectives for the study of placental function that is altered in many conditions (IUGR, preeclampsia
) and placental anatomy (placenta accreta
). The different MRI sequences (DCE, IVIM, BOLD, ASL
) are new tools that may soon allow us to assess precisely placental function and anatomy, in vivo and non-invasively.
