Mahy, George E.

Article in English | MedCarib | ID: med-11234
Eleven Barbadians suffering from a depressive illness were started on a six-week study of clomipramine. Only six completed the drug trial because the non-completers were intolerant to the side effects and unable to cope with regulated chemotherapy for the period of the study. Clomipramine was found to be an effective anti-depressant rates by the Hamilton, Wakefield and Beck Depression Scales. Clomipramine plasma levels were all very high in comparison to previous studies, even thhough patients might have taken a smaller dosage than prescribed. Absorption, metabolism and excretion seemed to be related to physiological variables like climate, diet etc. rather than racial factors (AU)
