RESUMEN

Using the conditions-of-life-approach through the lens of social politics and sociology, the categories of age(ing) and gender are viewed as structurally horizontal categories of society depicting socially constructed allocation criteria. Therefore, subjective perceptions of the conditions of life of particularly disadvantaged groups, such as elderly women or elderly women with a migration background, can be recorded as well. This article raises the question, if increasingly preferred concepts of intersectionality are positively contributing to gender research from a gerontological and feminist perspective.

RESUMEN

Medical practitioners commonly do not have much knowledge of the professional side of social workers, even those that work together in a geriatric team. The current article aims to further this knowledge and to show that the potentials of social work support may exceed administration, as well as in the consultation of patients by so-called social workers in hospitals. These potentials are not empirically reasoned, instead social pedagogic theories are used for support of this argument. Three theories will be introduced as examples and furthermore, the possible meaning this has for geriatric medicine will be explained by means of a case example.

RESUMEN

The current article outlines the development of Social Work with older people in the German social state and the role of gerontological discourses in this process. Some theories of Social work are introduced to show the mutual benefit that it has, when Social Work with older people and Gerontology continuously engage in common theoretical debates.

RESUMEN

The concept of "participation" and the demand for the use of "participative methods" in human, healthcare, nursing and gerontological research as well as the corresponding fields of practice are in great demand; however, the targets and organization of "participation" are not always sufficiently explicated. The working group on critical gerontology of the German Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics uses this phenomenon as an opportunity for positioning and develops a catalogue of criteria for reflection and assessment of participation of elderly people in science and practice, which can also be considered a stimulus for further discussions.

RESUMEN

Social gerontology is seen as a science-based but application-oriented subdiscipline of gerontology. It focuses particularly on social relationships in old age, social participation of elderly and old people and the protection of their individual needs. Self-determination and autonomy are important value orientations. Central issues are the quality of life and life satisfaction from the perspective of personal resources and biographical influences and the conditions of individual aging in the sense of differential gerontology. Against this background, in the first part of this article Kirsten Aner discusses the social construction of aging and in part two Ines Himmelsbach describes the typical life events and developmental tasks in the process of aging. The article concludes with a theoretical basis in which Cornelia Kricheldorff outlines social aging theories and derives a brief description of approaches and interventions.
