RESUMEN

Lectins are versatile proteins that specifically recognize and interact with sugar moieties expressed on the cell surface. The potential of lectin in drug targeting and delivery has instigated interest to identify natural lectins. Crabs have been identified as a rich source of lectin because the innate immune system is activated on encounter of pathogens and helps in the production of lectin. Although the presence of lectins in crab's hemolymph is well documented, little information about lectin in hepatopancreas, a vital organ for immunity and digestion in crustaceans, is currently available. A calcium dependent lectin (75 kDa) was purified from the hepatopancreas of the freshwater crab Oziotelphusa naga by bioadsorption and fetuin linked Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography technique. The isolated hepatopancreas lectin is calcium dependent and maximum agglutination was observed with rabbit erythrocytes. The hemagglutinating activity of the hepatopancreas lectin was effectively inhibited by sugars, such as α-lactose, GlcNAc, trehalose and NeuAc. Compared to sialylated N-glycosylated proteins including transferrin and apo transferrin, sialylated O-glycosylated proteins like fetuin exhibited stronger inhibitory effect. The ability of erythrocytes to bind hepatopancreas lectin has been diminished by desialylation of the potent inhibitor, indicating the significance of sialic acid in lectin-ligand interactions. The purified hepatopancreas lectin showed a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli and fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. The findings of this study demonstrate the significance of hepatopancreas lectin as a multifunctional defense protein that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi.

RESUMEN

Chloropicrin is a commonly used pesticide in agricultural production. The clinical manifestations of oral poisoning patients are complex, and the lesions involve multiple organs. At present, the specific pathogenic mechanism of such poisoning is not clear, and the treatment experience is insufficient, so there are certain difficulties in clinical diagnosis, treatment and treatment. In this paper, the data of a patient with oral chloropicrin poisoning treated in Yidu Central Hospital of Weifang City in April 2023 were summarized. The patient was admitted to our hospital for treatment in time, and his condition improved after Hemopurification, methylene blue reduction, organ support, infection prevention as well as other symptomatic support. Oral chlorophenol can cause lung damage, skin and mucous membrane damage, and may have certain effects on the nervous system and kidney. Early intervention, especially blood purification, is effective.

RESUMEN

Lectins are non-immune glycoproteins or proteins having a unique capacity to interact with carbohydrate ligands found on the surface of their host cells. In the present investigation, the lectin was purified from the hemolymph of freshwater crab, Oziotelphusa naga and its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activity was analysed. The preliminary characterization of the hemagglutinin was carried out to identify the erythrocyte and sugar specificity, optimum pH and temperature and cation dependency. The agglutinin was found to be highly specific to rabbit erythrocyte and inhibited by fetuin and α-lactose. Maximum hemagglutination activity was noted at pH 7.5-8 and temperature 20-40 °C. An O-acetyl sialic acid specific 75 kDa hemolymph lectin, designated as NagLec was isolated from the freshwater crab, Oziotelphusa naga by affinity chromatography on fetuin coupled Sepharose 4 B, with a purification fold of 185. The bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and fungus Candida albicans had the greatest zone of inhibition when treated with NagLec. The results of the Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) assays showed that the purified lectin inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus at 0.031 and 0.065 µg/ml, which proved the bactericidal property of NagLec. NagLec generated alterations on the bacterial cells and led to protein leakage, which was dosage (24 and 48 µg/ml) and time dependent (10-40 min). COX and LOX enzyme was inhibited to 49.43% and 61.81% with 100 µg/ml concentration of NagLec respectively, demonstrating NagLec's ability to reduce inflammation. Furthermore, NagLec (500 µg) suppressed protein denaturation up to 77.12% whereas diclofenac sodium (a standard drug) was inhibited by 89.36%. The results indicate that NagLec, a sialic acid specific lectin isolated from the freshwater crab O. naga could be formulated as a nano drug in future owing to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic potential that could be targeted to specific pathogenic microbes and treat arthritis.

RESUMEN

AIM: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the whether high mammographic density (MD) is differentially associated with all subtypes of breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases were searched systematically in October 2022 to include all studies that investigated the association between MD and breast cancer subtype. Aggregate data of 17,193 breast cancer cases from 23 studies were selected, including five cohort/case-control and 18 case-only studies. The relative risk (RR) of MD were combined using random/fixed effects models for case-control studies, and for case-only studies, relative risk ratios (RRRs) were a combination of luminal A, luminal B, and HER2-positive versus triple-negative tumours. RESULTS: Women in the highest density category in case-control/cohort studies had a 2.24-fold (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.53, 3.28), 1.81-fold (95% CI 1.15, 2.85), 1.44-fold (95% CI 1.14, 1.81), and 1.59-fold (95% CI 0.89, 2.85) higher risk of triple-negative, HER-2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) positive, luminal A, and luminal B breast cancer compared to women in the lowest density category. RRRs for breast tumours being luminal A, luminal B, and HER-2 positive versus triple-negative in case-only studies were 1.62 (95% CI 1.14, 2.31), 1.81 (95% CI 1.22, 2.71) and 2.58 (95% CI 1.63, 4.08), respectively, for BIRADS 4 versus BIRADS 1. CONCLUSION: The evidence indicates MD is a potent risk factor for the majority of breast cancer subtypes to different degrees. Increased MD is more strongly linked to HER-2-positive cancers compared to other breast cancer subtypes. The application of MD as a subtype-specific risk marker may facilitate the creation of personalised risk prediction models and screening procedures.

Methods: From August to November 2021, through network sampling method, 17 474 permanent residents aged 15-69 years in Liaoning Province were surveyed. The WeChat public account was used to collect information such as demographic characteristics and core knowledge of cancer prevention and treatment. The Chi-square test was used to compare the difference of the level of the cancer prevention and treatment knowledge among different groups. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors. Results: Among the 17 474 subjects, 43.1% (7 528) were male and 58.7% (10 262) were urban residents. The overall awareness rate was 72.3%, and the awareness rate of cancer cognition, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, cancer management and rehabilitation were 71.4%, 67.6%, 72.7%, 83.4% and 63.5%, respectively. The multivariate logistic regression model showed that the residents who were man (OR: 0.850, 95%CI: 0.781-0.925), in rural areas (OR: 0.753, 95%CI: 0.694-0.817), 55-59 years old (OR: 0.851, 95%CI: 0.751-0.963), quitters (OR: 0.721, 95%CI: 0.640-0.813) and smoker (OR: 0.724, 95%CI: 0.654-0.801) had lower awareness rates, while the residents who were 35-54 years old (OR: 1.312, 95%CI: 1.202-1.432), with an educational level of junior high school/senior high school/college degree or above (OR: 1.834-5.130, 95%CI: 1.575-6.047), technical personnel (OR: 1.592, 95%CI: 1.367-1.854), civil servant/institution staff (OR: 1.282, 95%CI: 1.094-1.503), enterprise/business/service staff (OR: 1.218, 95%CI: 1.071-1.385), retired (OR: 1.324, 95%CI: 1.114-1.573) and with family history of cancer (OR: 1.369, 95%CI: 1.266-1.481) had higher awareness rates. Conclusion: The level of the awareness of core knowledge of cancer prevention and treatment among residents in Liaoning Province has met the requirements of the Healthy China Action. Region, gender, education level, age, family history of cancer and smoking are relevant factors.

RESUMEN

An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment ^{2}H(^{16}C,^{4}He+^{12}Be or ^{6}He+^{10}Be)^{2}H was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich ^{16}C. For the first time, decay paths from the ^{16}C resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved Q-value spectra obtained from the threefold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the J^{π}=0^{+} band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with (3/2_{π}^{-})^{2}(1/2_{σ}^{-})^{2} configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to ^{6}He+^{10}Be(∼6 MeV) final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure σ-bond configuration.

RESUMEN

An O-acetyl sialic acid specific lectin was purified from the hemolymph of the marine crab Atergatis integerrimus by affinity chromatography using BSM (Bovine Submaxillary Mucin) coupled to cyanogen bromide activated Sepharose 4B and biospecific adsorption using formalinized buffalo erythrocytes. The purified AiL (Atergatis integerrimus lectin) showed an 1218 fold increase in specific activity when compared to the crude hemolymph agglutinin. The lectin, on non - denaturing PAGE showed a single band of 216 kDa and when subjected to SDS - PAGE, the lectin resolved into three subunits of molecular weight 70, 72 and 74 kDa. Physico chemical characterization revealed the lectin as pH and temperature sensitive, calcium dependent and sensitive to calcium chelators. Based on the calcium dependency of the lectin, AiL could be classified as a C-type lectin. The purified lectin agglutinated buffalo erythrocytes with greater avidity and was inhibited by the glycoproteins BSM, thyroglobulin, fetuin, PSM, and sugars raffinose, trehalose, l - fucose, α - Lactose, melibiose and GluNAc suggesting the affinity of the lectin to sialic acid. Reduction in HA with asialo buffalo erythrocytes and HAI titer with desialylated BSM, confirms the sialic acid specificity of the lectin. The reduction in HAI following de - O - acetylation confirms the specificity of the lectin for O - acetyl sialic acid. FTIR analysis confirms the purified lectin as a glycoprotein with spectral bands corresponding to amide bands and saccharides. Thus this study paves way to assess the therapeutic application of this lectin that could be targeted to modified sialic acid moieties that are expressed on the malignant cells and pathogenic microbes and also deduce the crystal structure of the lectin.

RESUMEN

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary probiotics on growth, non-specific immune responses and disease resistance in olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. During 8 weeks, the fish were fed the five experimental diets such as a basal commercial diet (CON), oxytetracycline (OTC) and three basal diets containing Bacillus subtilis (BS), a commercial microbial product (CES) and a mixture of yeast and bacterium (PI), respectively. Fish fed all the probiotics diets and OTC showed a significantly higher growth than fish-fed CON (P < 0·05). Fish-fed PI had a significantly higher nitroblue tetrazolium activity, whereas fish-fed CES showed a higher lysozyme level (P < 0·05). A 7-day challenge test also showed that fish-fed PI had a cumulative survival rate equivalent to that of fish-fed OTC (P < 0·05). Moreover, the diet (PI) appeared to increase the diversity of microbial community in the fish. All these results suggest that the probiotics diet could function as a potential antibiotic replacer in the olive flounder. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This study is unique in revealing that a diet mixture of yeast, Groenewaldozyma salmanticensis and bacterium Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens can enhance growth, innate immunity and diversity of microbial community including dominant species in the olive flounder. All these indicate that the diet mixture could function as a potential antibiotic replacer in one of the most commercially important fisheries in South Korea.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the orofacial pain sensitivity with operant test and mechanical hyperalgesia with von Frey filaments of two orofacial pain models (EOI: experimental occlusal interference; pIONX: partial infraorbital nerve transection). To investigate the operant and evoked characteristics of EOI-rats. METHODS: The orofacial operant behaviors were tested by Ugo Basile Orofacial Stimulation Test System. The mechanical thresholds of vibrissal pads were tested by von Frey filaments. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into eight groups: von Frey group: sham-EOI, EOI, sham-pIONX, pIONX (sham: sham-operated group); operant test group: sham-EOI, EOI, sham-pIONX, pIONX (sham: sham-operated group). The mechanical thresholds and orofacial operant behaviors were tested on pre-operation and post-operation days l, 3, 7, 10, 14 and 21. RESULTS: In pIONX of von Frey group, the mechanical withdrawal threshold decreased from days 1 to 21 (P<0.05), peaking from days 7 to 10, and lasted until the end of the experiment. There was no significant difference between the bilateral sides. In pIONX of operant test group, the total contact time decreased from days 10 to 21 (P<0.05), peaking from days 10 to 14, and lasted until the end of the experiment. In EOI of von Frey group, the mechanical withdrawal threshold decreased from days 3 to 21 (P<0.05), peaking on day 7, and lasted until the end of the experiment. There was no significant difference between the bilateral sides. In EOI of operant test group, the total contact time decreased from days 1 to 21 (P<0.05), peaking from days 7 to 10, and lasting until the end of experiment. CONCLUSION: Orofacial operant test is a stable method to evaluate orofacial pain behaviors, which could discriminate the feature of neuropathic and EOI orofacial pain. In these two animal models, both of the operant behaviors and the mechanical hyperalgesia exhibited different time courses. Orofacial operant test provides a novel method for evaluating the orofacial pain sensitivity and studying the orofacial pain mechanism thoroughly.

RESUMEN

Objective: To analysis of the efficacy of tubular paraspinal approach and conventional semi-laminar approach in treating lumbar stenosis. Methods: Retrospective research of clinical data of 56 lumbar stenosis cases who were operated in neurosurgery department of first center of PLA general hospital from May 2015 to June 2018. Collecting the information of sex, age, operating time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative duration in bed, as well as length of hospital stay of those patients. The 2 groups of cases, tubular paraspinal approach group (n=35)and semi-laminal approachgroup (n=21), compared by Japanese orthopedic association (JOA) score and visual analogue scale to assess the functional situation of the patients before operation, 1 week after operation, 1 month after operation, 6 months after operation, and the last follow up. Results: The operating time(83.1±7.3 vs 86.1±9.6 min), intraoperative blood loss(18.2±3.9 vs 40.5±13.3 ml), postoperative duration in bed(37.4±7.8 vs 63.7±15.8 h), as well as length of hospital stay (3.8±1.1 vs 6.5±2.0 d)were all obviously better in tubular paraspinal approach group than in traditional semi-laminar approach group(P<0.05). The postoperative 1 week, 1month, and 6 months JOA score (21.8±3.4, 23.6±2.4, 24.2±2.4 vs 19.9±3.7, 21.6±2.8, 22.4±2.1)and VAS (2.2±1.0, 2.0±1.1, 0.4±0.1 vs 3.1±1.2, 2.6±1.3, 0.5±0.1) were better in tubular paraspinal approach group than semi-laminar approach group (P<0.05). While at the last follow up, the JOA score and VAS were similar in the 2 groups (P>0.05) . Conclusions: In non-fusion techniques for treating lumbar stenosis, tubular paraspinal approach demonstrated less blood loss, shorter stay in bed as well as in hospital, and better symptom relief in early postoperative period than traditional semi-laminal approach. While at long term follow up, both approaches achieved satisfactory outcome.

RESUMEN

The epidemiological history and clinical characteristics of 7 cases of COVID-19 and 1 case of close contact in the first family aggregation epidemic of COVID-19 in Gansu Province were analyzed. The first patient A developed on January 22, 2020, with a history of residence in Wuhan, and confirmed severe cases of NCP on January 24, 2020; patient B, on January 23, 2020, diagnosed on January 31, severe cases; patient C, asymptomatic, diagnosed on January 27; patient D, asymptomatic, diagnosed on January 27; patient E, on January 24, diagnosed on January 28; patient F, asymptomatic, diagnosed on January 31; Patient G was asymptomatic and was diagnosed on January 31. In close contact, H was asymptomatic, PCR test was negative and asymptomatic, and he was discharged early. Among the 7 patients, 1 case died of (B) aggravation, and the other patients' condition was effectively controlled after active treatment. Except for the discharged cases, 5 cases were positive for COVID-19 specific IgM antibody and 1 case was negative. In this clustering outbreak, 4 patients remained asymptomatic, but PCR and IgM antibodies were positive, indicating that asymptomatic patients may be the key point to control the epidemic. Specific IgM antibody screening for patients whose pharyngeal swab nucleic acid test is negative but with ground glass-like lung lesions is very important for early detection and early isolation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To examine the clinical outcomes of ECT unilateral placements compared in prior studies and apply insights from computational modelling to understand differences between placements. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Scopus and PsycINFO and reference lists were systematically searched for studies of depressed patients where two unilateral placements were compared and clinical outcomes were reported. Computational modelling was done to generate electric field maps for each unilateral placement identified in the systematic review. RESULTS: A total of 29 studies met criteria for inclusion. Eight studies reported efficacy outcomes and 23 studies reported cognitive outcomes. Most studies found no significant difference in efficacy between right unilateral (RUL) and left unilateral (LUL) ECT, and no difference was found between temporo-parietal and fronto-temporal ECT. For the majority of studies, RUL placements had better verbal anterograde memory outcomes compared with the LUL placements. There was some evidence suggestive of cognitive advantages for fronto-frontal and fronto-parietal placements relative to temporo-parietal ECT. CONCLUSIONS: For efficacy, studies mainly focused on the comparison of right vs. left hemispheric stimulation, with the available evidence suggesting no substantive difference. RUL placements tended to have better verbal anterograde memory outcomes relative to LUL placements, though limited differences were found between the RUL placements.

RESUMEN

In the present study, a series of studies were conducted to explore the function of miR-374b in glioma and the regulatory relationship among miR-374b, GATA3 and SEMA3B. In the present study, miR-374b mimics and inhibitors were employed to regulate miR-374b expression. Besides, qRT-PCR assay was used for detecting the expression level of miR-374b, GATA3 and SEMAB mRNAs. To verify the targeting relationship between miR-374b and GATA3, dual luciferase analysis was utilized. Moreover, chromatin immunoprecipitationn (ChIP) assay was performed for identify the correlation of GATA3 with SEMA3B. Furthermore, si1-GATA3, si2-GATA3 and pc-GATA3 were used to regulate GATA3 expression, and pc-SEMA3B was taken advantage for dysregulating SEMA3B. For assessing the significance of miR374b alone or co-operated with GATA3 or SEMA3B in cell viability, migration and apoptosis, CCK-8, transwell and FCM assay were performed, respectively. We found that overexpression of miR-374b, which was identified in glioma tissues and cell lines, U251, LN-299 and GOS-3, promoting cell migration and enhancing cell viability but inhibiting cell apoptosis were suggested in this research. Besides, GATA3 contributed to increase in cell viability and migration and decrease in cell apoptosis targeted by miR-374b as evidenced by dual luciferase assay. Moreover, GATA3 binding to the promoter of SEMA3B involved in regulating SEMA3B was revealed. Further, a series of studies demonstrated that miR-374b targeting GATA3 regulating SMEA3B resulted in elevation in cell viability and migration but suppression in cell apoptosis. But the promotion effects of miR-374 in glioma process were reversed by co-transfecting pc-GATA3 or pc-SEMA3B. In conclusion, miR-374b promotes glioma process in vitro through suppressing SEMA3B via targeting GATA3. The result of this study provides an important clue to the optimal treatment schedule for glioblastoma.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Asthma is a complex and heterogeneous disease. We found gene-gene interactions between IL13 rs20541, IL4 rs2243250, ADRB2 rs1042713, and FCER1B rs569108 in asthmatic Chinese Han children. This 4-locus set constituted an optimal statistical interaction model. We examined associations between the 4-gene model (IL13, IL4, FCER1B, and ADRB2) and the Asthma Predictive Index (API) and atopy in Chinese Han children. METHODS: Four single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the 4 genes were genotyped in 385 preschool children with wheezing symptoms using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The t test and x2 tests were used for the analysis. RESULTS: Significant correlations were found between the 4-locus gene model and a stringent and loose API (both P<.0001). Additionally, a high-risk asthma genotype was a risk factor for a positive API (stringent API, OR=4.08; loose API, OR=2.36). We also found a statistically significant association between the 4-locus gene model and atopy (P<.01, OR=2.09). CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that the 4-locus gene model consisting of L13 rs20541, IL4 rs2243250, ADRB2 rs1042713, and FCER1B rs569108 was associated with the API and atopy. These findings provide evidence that this gene model can be used to determine a high risk of developing asthma and atopy in Chinese Han children.

RESUMEN

This study investigated the effect of dietary fibre (DF) supplementation on hepatic fat deposition of Cherry Valley meat ducks. A total of 600 1-d-old ducks were randomly allotted to five dietary fibre diets (1.46 (basal diet), 3.09, 4.15, 6.18 and 7.52% (analysed)) for 14 days. Growth performance decreased with increasing DF concentrations, when the DF level more than 6.18% the average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (F/G) markedly decreased in meat ducks. Meat ducks supplemented over 4.15% DF had lower percentage of liver reported to live weight, liver lipid contents, hepatic triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations as well as decreased serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) concentrations at 14 days. The transcription of fatty acid synthase (FAS), acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and sterol-regulatory element-binding protein-1 (SREBP-1) in liver was significantly reduced by DF, while no any significant difference was found about the effect of DF on hepatic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα), adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL), transcription as well as caecal digesta short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). Data suggested that dietary fibre supplementation decreased hepatic lipid deposition and improved characteristics of liver health via inhibiting hepatic FAS, ACC and SREBP-1 expression in meat ducks.

RESUMEN

Background: The influence of different head and neck positions on the effectiveness of ventilation with the air-Q® self-pressurizing airway remains unevaluated. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different head and neck positions on ventilation with the air-Q® SP airway. Methods: In this prospective, randomized crossover study, we enrolled 51 female patients who were to undergo elective gynaecological or breast surgery under general anaesthesia. An air-Q® SP airway was placed in all patients, and mechanical ventilation was performed using a volume-controlled mode with a tidal volume of 10 ml kg−1 and a respiratory rate of 12 bpm. The expiratory tidal volume, peak inspiratory pressure, oropharyngeal leak pressure, and ventilation score were assessed first for the neutral head position and then for the extended, flexed, and rotated head positions in a random order. Results: All parameters were similar for the rotated head and neck position and the neutral position. Compared with the neutral position, the oropharyngeal leak pressure and peak inspiratory pressure decreased in the extended position but increased significantly in the flexed position (P<0.001). However, the expiratory tidal volume and ventilation score decreased significantly in only the extended position (P<0.001) but were similar in the flexed and neutral positions. Conclusions: Ventilation was not adversely affected in the rotated or flexed head and neck positions, whereas head and neck extension negatively influenced ventilation. Clinically, it is better to avoid head and neck extension during ventilation with an air-Q® SP airway. Clinical trial registration: NCT02402387.

RESUMEN

This study was conducted to compare the differences of the uptake of Mn from Mn-lysine complex (MnLys) and MnSO4 and to determine the potential mechanisms of the uptake of Mn from MnLys. We first established the primary rat intestinal epithelial cell culture model and used it to determine the uptake of Mn from different Mn sources. The MnLys increased (p < 0.001) Mn uptake when compared to MnSO4 . The uptake of Mn decreased (p < 0.05) with added Fe concentration increasing in the medium regardless of Mn source. The MnLys decreased (p < 0.01) Mn2+ efflux transporter ferroportin 1 (FPN1) mRNA level, but did not influence (p > 0.06) Mn2+ influx transporter DMT1 mRNA expression when compared to MnSO4 . The results above indicated that the increase of Mn accumulation for MnLys at least partly was due to the decrease of Mn efflux by reduced FPN1 expression. The N-ethylmaleimide, as an l-lysine transport system y+ inhibitor, decreased (p < 0.001) the uptake of Mn from MnLys, but did not affect (p > 0.10) the uptake of Mn from MnSO4 . The cycloheximide, as an l-lysine transport system b0,+ activator, increased (p < 0.001) the uptake of Mn from MnLys, whereas also did not influence the uptake of Mn from MnSO4 . The MnLys increased (p < 0.01) the system y+ member cationic amino acid transporter (CAT) 1, and system b0,+ components rBAT and b0,+ AT mRNA expression when compared to MnSO4 . These results suggested that the uptake of Mn from MnLys complex might be transported by CAT1 and system b0,+ , which was different from ionized Mn2+ uptake pathway. In conclusion, the uptake of MnLys complex not only might be absorbed as Mn2+ , but also appeared to be transported through CAT1 and system b0,+ in the primary rat intestinal epithelial cells.

RESUMEN

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary rapeseed meal (RSM) inclusion levels on growth performance, organ health and standardized ileal amino acid digestibility (SIAAD) in meat ducks from 15 to 35 days of age. Six hundred and eighty 15-days-old ducks were randomly allotted to five treatments based on body weight. Five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated on a digestible amino acid basis by replacing 0% (the control), 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% (based on fresh) of protein from soya bean meal (SBM) with protein from RSM. The corresponding levels of RSM in experimental diets were 0%, 6.66%, 13.32%, 19.98% and 26.64% respectively. With increasing dietary RSM levels, body weight (BW) and average daily gain (ADG) linearly decreased (p < 0.001), whereas feed-to-gain ratio (F: G) linearly increased (p = 0.0078). Ducks fed the diets with 13.32% or more RSM had significantly lower (p < 0.05) BW, ADG and ADFI, or higher F: G than ducks fed the control diet. The maximum limit of dietary RSM supplementation was estimated to range from 4.27% to maximize ADG for 15 to 35 days to 11.69% to maintain feed intake for 15 to 35 days on the basis of a broken-line model. At day35, the 4th primary wing feather length and SIAAD (except for Met, Thr and Val) linearly decreased (p < 0.001), and the thyroid glands weight (% of BW) linearly increased (p < 0.05) with increasing dietary RSM levels. Ducks fed the RSM inclusion diets had significantly lower (p < 0.0001) serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) activities than ducks fed the control diet. These results suggested that the maximum limit of dietary RSM containing 7.57 µmol/g glucosinolates was estimated to be 4.27% to avoid growth reduction.

RESUMEN

This study investigated the effects of maternal canthaxanthin (CX, 6 mg/kg) and 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25-OH-D3 , 0.069 mg/kg) supplementation on the performance of Cherry Valley ducklings under two different vitamin regimens. A total of 780 duck breeder females and 156 males were randomly allotted to two diets with or without the addition of the mixture of CX and 25-OH-D3 (CX+25-OH-D3 ) for 32 weeks. Ducklings (males and females separately) hatched from eggs laid at 24 weeks of the duck breeder trial were fed with a NRC vitamin regimen, and ducklings (males and females separately) hatched from eggs laid at 32 weeks of the duck breeder trial were fed with a HIGH vitamin regimen (had higher levels of all vitamins except biotin than NRC vitamin regimen), for 14 days. The results showed that, maternal CX+25-OH-D3 supplementation increased the shank pigmentation for 7-days post hatch in ducklings under a NRC vitamin regimen, and for 14-days post hatch in ducklings under a HIGH vitamin regimen. Growth performance, antioxidant status and serum phosphorus of ducklings under a NRC vitamin regimen were increased by maternal CX+25-OH-D3 supplementation; however, these positive effects were not observed in ducklings under a HIGH vitamin regimen. Males revealed increased growth performance in ducklings under both NRC and HIGH vitamin regimens. Sexual differences in shank pigmentation, antioxidant status, tibia strength and serum phosphorus were not consistent as they were dependent on maternal CX+25-OH-D3 status or dietary vitamin regimens. Data suggest that maternal CX+25-OH-D3 supplementation is important for starter ducklings under a NRC vitamin regimen, but not HIGH vitamin regimen.
