RESUMEN

Tumoral calcinosis is a distinct entity, which is rarely seen in Europe and North America but much more common in black Africans. Typical symptoms are calcified nodules, which grow while remaining asymptomatic and are found in the tissues adjacent to the large joints of the body. Histologically there is collagen necrobiosis initially, which results in aggregates of densely calcified material. The aetiology is unknown, but the condition is probably a form of dystrophic calcification caused by mechanical injury. The patient is suffering from tumoral calcinosis is presented by the authors and they are describing the clinical and histological findings.

RESUMEN

Case report of a 77 year old man has been shown, who had a squamous cell carcinoma of the left hand, with axillary metastases. Seven months after the recognition of disease, incision of primary tumor, skin transplantation and removal of axillary tumor mass, the patient has died.

RESUMEN

PIP: The most frequent complications resulting from IUD use are reviewed. Of the complications evaluated, pelvic inflammation is considered the most severe. During the past 11 years, 1 lethal septic complication occured in this department. It was caused by a pelvic inflammation. In that case, the pelvic inflammation manifested itself in a rather unusual form, and caused many problems in differential diagnosis. It is emphasized that the use of the IUD, although a modern and widely availabe method of contraception, is not free of complications. Such complications, however, might be reduced considerably by appropriate care. (author's modified)^ieng

RESUMEN

One of the specific features of the scoliosis operations with a posterior approach is that both the correction of the deformity and then the maintaining of the corrected situation are carried out with the help of the implants. With the currently applied systems based on the CD principle it is still difficult to control the rotational component of the scoliotic curve. To complement the systems based on the CD principle, we have developed an implant family whose application makes the correction of the dorsal deformity generally simplier and derotation more effective. Our method is based on the application of such hooks which, linked to the longitudinal rods and hooked on both transverse processes of the instrumented vertebrae, transmit the concerted forces exerting their influence in the direction of the correction. Depending on their symmetrical relations, the hooks are capable of tilting in the frontal plane and derotating in the horizontal plane simultaneously, in the direction of our choice. The stability and applicability of the hooks were tested in implants into cadavers, and then the intimate relations of the implants were examined by means of radiological tests and dissection on instrumented specimens. On the basis of our results, the implants can already be used in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Two allelic electromorphs a and b of chicken erythrocyte histone H5 have been detected in a sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel. In an acid-urea gel, however, each of the allelic variants was found to be accompanied by a slower migrating form. A comparison of alpha-chymotrypsin-digested products of H5.a and H5.b revealed that they differed in N-terminal domains. The H5 variants were distributed differently not only in various chicken races but also in distinct lines within a breed. Allele H5b was about 2.6-4.6 as abundant as its counterpart H5a in most chicken populations examined. These proportions were distorted in two Leghorn lines: the ratio of H5b to H5a was only 1.6 in line H22 and increased up to 32 in line G99.
