RESUMEN

Hobnail hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular neoplasm that belongs to the category of vascular neoplasms of borderline (or low-grade) malignancy, defined by a significant potential for local recurrence but very low numbers of metastatic or fatal events. It is typically found in the skin, and rarely in the oral mucosa of children and young adults. We report the first case of hobnail hemangioendothelioma located in the intestine (ileocecal valve).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Granulocytic sarcoma of the cervix, leading to the diagnosis of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), is a rare event. CASE: A 33-year-old woman presented with vaginal bleeding, pain, and a large pelvic mass involving the cervix, extending bilaterally to the pelvic side walls. A biopsy of the cervix revealed granulocytic sarcoma, and a subsequent bone marrow biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of AML. RESULTS: The majority of patients with cervical granulocytic sarcoma present with vaginal bleeding, sometimes with abdominal pain and other systemic symptoms. The overall 2-year survival rates for all patients with granulocytic sarcoma in the literature is 6%, and none of the patients lived 5 years. CONCLUSION: Granulocytic sarcoma of the cervix is rare. Awareness of this entity will allow earlier diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

RESUMEN

Solitary fibrous tumor of the ischioanal fossa is a rare neoplasm. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a solitary fibrous tumor in the ischioanal fossa. The presentation and symptomatology are presented. The radiologic and pathologic features of the lesion are described. Excision is the recommended treatment.

RESUMEN

We retrospectively reviewed the computed tomographic (CT) examinations of 15 cases of abdominal wall hernia due to abdominal trauma; 13 patients had been injured in motor vehicle accidents (11 of those were belted in). All hernias were correctly identified on CT and confirmed intraoperatively. Traumatic abdominal wall hernia proved an important indicator of associated visceral injury, especially to the bowel (n = 6) and mesentery (n = 10). Careful review of the bowel and mesentery should thus be undertaken when disruption of the abdominal wall is documented. Radiologists should be aware, however, that CT findings may correlate poorly with severity of injury in these areas. In these instances, close clinical correlation and, sometimes, rescanning may be necessary.
