RESUMEN

Stress has been considered as a potential trigger for hair loss through the neuroendocrine-hair follicle (HF) axis. Neurotensin (NTS), a neuropeptide, is known to be dysregulated in the inflammatory-associated skin diseases. However, the precise role of NTS in stress-induced hair loss is unclear. To investigate the function and potential mechanisms of NTS in stress-induced hair growth inhibition, we initially detected the expression of neurotensin receptor (Ntsr) and NTS in the skin tissues of stressed mice by RNA-sequencing and ELISA. We found chronic restraint stress (CRS) significantly decreased the expression of both NTS and Ntsr in the skin tissues of mice. Intracutaneous injection of NTS effectively counteracted CRS-induced inhibition of hair growth in mice. Furthermore, NTS regulated a total of 1093 genes expression in human dermal papilla cells (HDPC), with 591 genes being up-regulated and 502 genes being down-regulated. GO analysis showed DNA replication, cell cycle, integral component of plasma membrane and angiogenesis-associated genes were significantly regulated by NTS. KEGG enrichment demonstrated that NTS also regulated genes related to the Hippo signalling pathway, axon guidance, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and Wnt signalling pathway in HDPC. Our results not only uncovered the potential effects of NTS on stress-induced hair growth inhibition but also provided an understanding of the mechanisms at the gene transcriptional level.

METHODS: Multiple Swedish nationwide registers were used to identify 8045 individuals, aged 20-29, with an incident diagnosis of ADHD 2006-2011. Labour market integration was conceptualized according to the core-peripheral model as a continuum from a strong (core) to a weak (peripheral) connection to the labour market. Sequence analyses categorized clusters of labour market integration, from 1 year before to 5 years after their ADHD diagnosis for individuals diagnosed with ADHD and a matched control group without ADHD. Multinomial logistic regression computed odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) between sociodemographic factors and comorbid disorders and the identified clusters. RESULTS: About one-fourth of the young adults diagnosed with ADHD belonged to clusters characterized by a transition to a mainly peripheral labour market position, which was approximately four-times higher compared to controls without ADHD. Foremost, those living in small cities/villages (OR 1.9; CI 1.5-2.2), those having comorbid autism-spectrum disorder (OR 13.7; CI 6.8-27.5) or schizophrenia/psychoses (OR 7.8; CI 3.8-15.9) were associated with a transition towards a peripheral labour market position throughout the study period. Those with a high educational level (OR 0.1; CI 0.1-0.1), and men (OR 0.7; CI 0.6-0.8) were less likely to have a peripheral labour market position. CONCLUSIONS: Young adults diagnosed with ADHD are four-times more likely to be in the peripheral labour market position compared to those without ADHD. To increase labour market participation, special attention is warranted to those with low educational level, those living outside big cities and those with comorbid mental disorders.

Visible-light-driven reduction of CO2 to both CO and formate (HCOO-) was achieved in acetonitrile solutions using a homobimetallic Cu bisquaterpyridine complex. In the presence of a weak acid (water) as coreactant, the reaction rate was enhanced, and a total of ca. 766 TON (turnover number) was reached for the CO2 reduction, with 60% selectivity for formate and 28% selectivity for CO, using Ru(phen)32+ as a sensitizer and amines as sacrificial electron donors. Mechanistic studies revealed that with the help of cooperativity between two Cu centers, a bridging hydride is generated in the presence of a proton source (water) and further reacts with CO2 to give HCOO-. A second product, CO, was also produced in a parallel competitive pathway upon direct coordination of CO2 to the reduced complex. Mechanistic studies further allowed comparison of the observed reactivity to the monometallic Cu quaterpyridine complex, which only produced CO, and to the related homobimetallic Co bisquaterpyridine complex, that has been previously shown to generate formate following a mechanism not involving the formation of an intermediate hydride species.

AIMS: We investigated if the risk of long-term unemployment (LTU) and disability pension (DP) differs between young refugees and non-refuge immigrants compared to the Swedish-born. The role of age at arrival, duration of residency and morbidity in this association was also investigated. METHODS: All 19- to 25-year-olds residing in Sweden on 31 December 2004 (1691 refugees who were unaccompanied by a parent at arrival, 24,697 accompanied refugees, 18,762 non-refugee immigrants and 621,455 Swedish-born individuals) were followed from 2005 to 2016 regarding LTU (>180 days annually) and DP using nationwide register data. Cox regression models were used to estimate crude and multivariate-adjusted (adjusted for several socio-demographic, labour market and health-related covariates) hazard ratios (aHRs) with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS: Compared to the Swedish-born, all migrant groups had around a 1.8-fold higher risk of LTU (range aHR=1.71-1.83) and around a 30% lower risk of DP (range aHR=0.66-0.76). Older age at arrival was associated with a higher risk of LTU only for non-refugee immigrants. Both older age at arrival and a shorter duration of residency were associated with a lower risk of DP for all migrant groups. Psychiatric morbidity had the strongest effect on subsequent DP, with no significant differences between migrant groups and the Swedish-born (range aHR=5.1-6.1). CONCLUSIONS: Young immigrants had a higher risk of LTU and a lower risk of DP than their Swedish-born peers. No differences between the different immigrant groups were found. Age at arrival, psychiatric morbidity and duration of residency are strong determinants of being granted DP.

Efficient and selective photocatalytic CO2 reduction was obtained within a hybrid system that is formed in situ via a Schiff base condensation between a molecular iron quaterpyridine complex bearing an aldehyde function and carbon nitride. Irradiation (blue LED) of an CH3 CN solution containing 1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (BIH), triethylamine (TEA), Feqpy-BA (qpy-BA=4-([2,2':6',2'':6'',2'''-quaterpyridin]-4-yl)benzaldehyde) and C3 N4 resulted in CO evolution with a turnover number of 2554 and 95 % selectivity. This hybrid catalytic system unlocks covalent linkage of molecular catalysts with semiconductor photosensitizers via Schiff base reaction for high-efficiency photocatalytic reduction of CO2 , opening a pathway for diverse photocatalysis.

In the quest for designing efficient and stable photocatalytic materials for CO2 reduction, hybridizing a selective noble-metal-free molecular catalyst and carbon-based light-absorbing materials has recently emerged as a fruitful approach. In this work, we report about Co quaterpyridine complexes covalently linked to graphene surfaces functionalized by carboxylic acid groups. The nanostructured materials were characterized by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, IR and Raman spectroscopies, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and proved to be highly active in the visible-light-driven CO2 catalytic conversion in acetonitrile solutions. Exceptional stabilities (over 200 h of irradiation) were obtained without compromising the selective conversion of CO2 to products (>97%). Most importantly, complete selectivity control could be obtained upon adjusting the experimental conditions: production of CO as the only product was achieved when using a weak acid (phenol or trifluoroethanol) as a co-substrate, while formate was exclusively obtained in solutions of mixed acetonitrile and triethanolamine.

RESUMEN

Converting CO2 into useful resources by electrocatalysis and photocatalysis is a promising strategy for recycling of the gas and electrification of industries. Numerous studies have shown that multinuclear metal catalysts have higher selectivity and catalytic activity than monometallic catalysts due to the synergistic effects between the metal sites. In this review, we summarize some of the recent progress on the electrocatalytic and photocatalytic reduction of CO2 by earth-abundant bimetallic molecular catalysts.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) has negative long-term impacts on survivors' health and work capacity. We aimed to investigate specialized healthcare use and sickness absence and disability pension among CRC survivors and matched references. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this longitudinal register-based cohort study, 6679 patients with a first primary CRC in 2008-2011 (when aged 18-62) and 26,716 CRC-free matched references were followed from 2 years before up to 5 years after diagnosis date. Mean numbers of hospital days and outpatient visits were illustrated for survivors and references for the 7-year period. Crude and adjusted mean numbers of sickness absence/disability pension net days were calculated for post-diagnosis Years 3 and 5. RESULTS: Survivors' healthcare use was higher compared to their references throughout the 7 years around CRC diagnosis and was mostly due to CRC, secondary neoplasms, and digestive disorders. In Year 5, survivors had 1.94 mean outpatient visits and 2.13 mean inpatient days (compared to 1.00 and 0.82 for references, respectively). Survivors' adjusted mean sickness absence/disability pension days amounted to 85 d in Year 3 and 77 in Year 5 (compared to 57 and 54 d in the references). Higher mean number of future days was found among women, lower-educated, foreign-born, with previous comorbidities or previous mental disorders. Those with many sickness absence days in 2 years pre-diagnosis had the highest number of future sickness absence/disability pension days. CONCLUSIONS: Post-diagnostic healthcare use remained high among CRC survivors, mostly due to cancer (CRC and other neoplasms) and digestive diagnoses. Their sickness absence and disability pension decreased gradually over the period but remained higher than among references. Pre-morbid characteristics may be used in early work-related clinical planning for the survivors.

BACKGROUND: Women's return to work after diagnosis of breast cancer (BC) is becoming more prevalent. However, register-based national investigation on sickness absence (SA) and disability pension (DP) in BC women is lacking. The aim of the study was to explore SA and DP before and after a first BC diagnosis and the possibility to predict new cancer-related SA by using disease-related and sociodemographic factors. METHODS: A longitudinal register study of the 3536 women in Sweden aged 19-64 with a first BC diagnosis in 2010 was conducted by linkage of five nationwide registers. Particularly, detailed information on SA and DP was obtained from the National Social Insurance Agency. Descriptive statistics on SA and DP 2 years before through 3 years after the BC diagnosis were performed. The risk of having a new SA spell due to BC or BC-related diagnoses was modeled using logistic regression. RESULTS: The proportion of women with SA increased during the year following the BC diagnosis date and declined over the next 2 years to proportions before diagnosis. At the time of BC diagnosis, half of the women began a new SA spell > 14 days with cancer, cancer-related, or mental diagnosis. Disease-related and sociodemographic factors including occupational sector, living area, age, cancer stage, educational level, and number of previous SA days showed statistical significance (p < 0.05) in predicting a new SA around BC diagnosis. By using these factors, it was possible to correctly predict 67% of the new SA spell. CONCLUSIONS: SA among women with BC was elevated mainly in the first year after diagnosis. New SA following BC diagnosis can accurately be predicted.

Achieving visible-light-driven carbon dioxide reduction with high selectivity control and durability while using only earth abundant elements requires new strategies. Hybrid catalytic material was prepared upon covalent grafting a Co-quaterpyridine molecular complex to semiconductive mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (mpg-C3N4) through an amide linkage. The molecular material was characterized by various spectroscopic techniques, including XPS, IR, and impedance spectroscopy. It proved to be a selective catalyst for CO production in acetonitrile using a solar simulator with a high 98% selectivity, while being remarkably robust since no degradation was observed after 4 days of irradiation (ca. 500 catalytic cycles). This unique combination of a selective molecular catalyst with a simple and robust semiconductive material opens new pathways for CO2 catalytic light-driven reduction.

BACKGROUND: After breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, work incapacity often occurs among working-age women. We investigated the trajectories of previous and subsequent sickness absence and/or disability pension (SA/DP) days, and risk factors for consistently high levels of future SA/DP among these women. METHODS: This longitudinal cohort study included all 3536 women in Sweden aged 19-64 years who received a first BC diagnosis in 2010. Their annual SA/DP net days from 2 years before to 3 years after diagnosis were calculated. SA/DP patterns were depicted by a group-based trajectory model. Logistic regressions were used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) with 95% CIs of >90 or >180 SA/DP days/year. RESULTS: Three trajectories of SA/DP days/year were identified: increasing only in year+1 (61% of all), increasing then decreasing in year+3 (30%), and constantly very high (9%). The risk factors associated with annual SA/DP days >90 (long) and >180 days (extreme long) were similar. Factors associated with having >90 SA/DP days for years 1-3 were: stage II (OR, 4.59; 95% CI, 2.98-7.07), stage III+IV (OR, 26.57; 95% CI, 13.52-52.22), prediagnosis SA 1-30 days (OR, 2.73; 95% CI, 1.30-5.70), prediagnosis SA >90 days (OR, 24.52; 95% CI, 12.25-49.08), and prediagnosis DP (OR, 659.97; 95% CI, 292.52->999.99). Conversely, adjusting for prediagnosis SA/DP and stage, sociodemographic factors were not associated with high levels of SA/DP. CONCLUSION: After BC diagnosis, SA/DP increased significantly but then decreased. The absolute majority had no SA/DP during year 3. Advanced cancer stage and previous high SA/DP rendered the greatest risk for future high SA/DP. More knowledge is needed for applying the information in rehabilitation and return-to-work planning.

Efficient and selective photostimulated CO2-to-CO reduction by a photocatalytic system consisting of an iron-complex catalyst and a mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (mpg-C3N4) redox photosensitizer is reported for the first time. Irradiation in the visible region (λ ≥ 400 nm) of an CH3CN/triethanolamine (4:1, v/v) solution containing [Fe(qpy)(H2O)2]2+ (qpy = 2,2':6',2'':6'',2''-quaterpyridine) and mpg-C3N4 resulted in CO evolution with 97% selectivity, a turnover number of 155, and an apparent quantum yield of ca. 4.2%. This hybrid catalytic system, comprising only earth abundant elements, opens new perspectives for solar fuels production using CO2 as a renewable feedstock.

The kinetics of water oxidation by K2 FeO4 has been reinvestigated by UV/Vis spectrophotometry from pH 7-9 in 0.2 m phosphate buffer. The rate of reaction was found to be second-order in both [FeO4 2- ] and [H+ ]. These results are consistent with a proposed mechanism in which the first step involves the initial equilibrium protonation of FeO4 2- to give FeO3 (OH)- , which then undergoes rate-limiting O-O bond formation. Analysis of the O2 isotopic composition for the reaction in H2 18 O suggests that the predominant pathway for water oxidation by ferrate is intramolecular O-O coupling. DFT calculations have also been performed, which support the proposed mechanism.

Associating a metal-based catalyst to a carbon-based nanomaterial is a promising approach for the production of solar fuels from CO2 . Upon appending a CoII quaterpyridine complex [Co(qpy)]2+ at the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes, CO2 conversion into CO was realized in water at pH 7.3 with 100 % catalytic selectivity and 100 % Faradaic efficiency, at low catalyst loading and reduced overpotential. A current density of 0.94 mA cm-2 was reached at -0.35 V vs. RHE (240 mV overpotential), and 9.3 mA cm-2 could be sustained for hours at only 340 mV overpotential with excellent catalyst stability (89 095 catalytic cycles in 4.5 h), while 19.9 mA cm-2 was met at 440 mV overpotential. Such a hybrid material combines the high selectivity of a homogeneous molecular catalyst to the robustness of a heterogeneous material. Catalytic performances compare well with those of noble-metal-based nano-electrocatalysts and atomically dispersed metal atoms in carbon matrices.

The design of highly efficient and selective photocatalytic systems for CO2 reduction that are based on nonexpensive materials is a great challenge for chemists. The photocatalytic reduction of CO2 by [Co(qpy)(OH2)2](2+) (1) (qpy = 2,2':6',2″:6″,2‴-quaterpyridine) and [Fe(qpy)(OH2)2](2+) (2) have been investigated. With Ru(bpy)3(2+) as the photosensitizer and 1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole as the sacrificial reductant in CH3CN/triethanolamine solution under visible-light excitation (blue light-emitting diode), a turnover number (TON) for CO as high as 2660 with 98% selectivity can be achieved for the cobalt catalyst. In the case of the iron catalyst, the TON was >3000 with up to 95% selectivity. More significantly, when Ru(bpy)3(2+) was replaced by the organic dye sensitizer purpurin, TONs of 790 and 1365 were achieved in N,N-dimethylformamide for the cobalt and iron catalysts, respectively.

The unique intrauterine environment has been proposed to put twins at increased risk of certain cancers compared to singletons, still large population comparisons have generally indicated lower risks in twins. To improve the understanding of potential twin influence on cancer we compared twins to their singletons siblings, to target a unique twinning influence. Singletons from twin families were contrasted to singletons from non-twin families to further capture potential twin family influence on risk of cancer. Family relations were identified using the Swedish Multi-Generation Register. Among individuals born between 1932 and 1958, 49,156 twins and N = 35,227 singletons were identified from 18,098 unique twin families. All incident cases of specific cancer types were identified in the National Cancer Register up to the end of 2007. Standardized survival functions were estimated using weighted Cox proportional hazard regression and the corresponding cumulative risks plotted against age. Overall, primary cancers were identified in 9% and 18% of all male and female twins, compared to 11% and 19% of their male and female singleton siblings. When specific cancer sites were compared using standardized cumulative risk plots, no consistent statistically significant differences were noted either between twins and singletons of twin families or between singletons of twin and non-twin families. Despite a different intrauterine experience, twinning does not seem to have any greater negative influence on life-time risks of cancer. The findings also indicate that twin family membership has no substantial influence on cancer risks.

Molecular catalysis of carbon dioxide reduction using earth-abundant metal complexes as catalysts is a key challenge related to the production of useful products--the "solar fuels"--in which solar energy would be stored. A direct approach using sunlight energy as well as an indirect approach where sunlight is first converted into electricity could be used. A Co(II) complex and a Fe(III) complex, both bearing the same pentadentate N5 ligand (2,13-dimethyl-3,6,9,12,18-pentaazabicyclo[12.3.1]octadeca-1(18),2,12,14,16-pentaene), were synthesized, and their catalytic activity toward CO2 reduction was investigated. Carbon monoxide was formed with the cobalt complex, while formic acid was obtained with the iron-based catalyst, thus showing that the catalysis product can be switched by changing the metal center. Selective CO2 reduction occurs under electrochemical conditions as well as photochemical conditions when using a photosensitizer under visible light excitation (λ > 460 nm, solvent acetonitrile) with the Co catalyst. In the case of the Fe catalyst, selective HCOOH production occurs at low overpotential. Sustained catalytic activity over long periods of time and high turnover numbers were observed in both cases. A catalytic mechanism is suggested on the basis of experimental results and preliminary quantum chemistry calculations.
