RESUMEN

We conducted a retrospective, multicentre study to compare consolidation therapy with or without first-line autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) for peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) patients in a real-world setting. We enrolled 347 PTCL patients who achieved complete response after first-line treatment. Of these, 257 received consolidation chemotherapy (non-ASCT group) and 90 received ASCT (ASCT group). Clinical outcomes were comparable between ASCT and non-ASCT groups. After propensity score matching, the 2-year cumulative incidence of treatment-related mortality and relapse remained similar between groups (1.9% vs. 2.0%, p = 0.985; 24.7% vs. 47.1%, p = 0.021). However, significant differences emerged in progression-free survival and overall survival probabilities. Within the T-cell lymphoma subgroup, ASCT patients exhibited favourable outcomes compared to non-ASCT patients: 2-year progression-free survival (73.4% vs. 50.8%, p = 0.024) and overall survival (92.1% vs. 73.5%, p = 0.021). Notably, no significant differences were observed for patients with NK/T-cell lymphoma. These real-world data suggest that up-front ASCT is a safe and effective consolidation option for PTCL patients in remission, particularly those with T-cell lymphoma.

RESUMEN

Bismuth-based materials have been recognized as the appealing anodes for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) due to their high theoretical capacity. However, the kinetics sluggishness and capacity decline induced by the structure distortion predominately retard their further development. Here, a heterostructure of polyaniline intercalated Bi2O2CO3/MXene (BOC-PA/MXene) hybrids is reported via simple self-assembly strategy. The ingenious design of heterointerface-rich architecture motivates significantly the interior self-built-in electric field (IEF) and high-density electron flow, thus accelerating the charge transfer and boosting ion diffusion. As a result, the hybrids realize a high reversible specific capacity, satisfying rate capability as well as long-term cycling stability. The in/ex situ characterizations further elucidate the stepwise intercalation-conversion-alloying reaction mechanism of BOC-PA/MXene. More encouragingly, the full cell investigation further highlights its competitive merits for practical application in further PIBs. The present work not only opens the way to the design of other electrodes with an appropriate working mechanism but also offers inspiration for built-in electric-field engineering toward high-performance energy storage devices.

RESUMEN

We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics, particularly the occurrence and risk factors of severe/critical illness, in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell (allo-HSCT) recipients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by Omicron variant in an observational prospective study (n = 311). The median time from allo-HSCT to COVID-19 diagnosis was 8.5 months (range 0.8-106.1) months. Four patients (1.3%) were reported to be asymptomatic during Omicron variant infection, and 135 (43.4%) patients showed lower respiratory tract disease. Thirty-four (10.9%) patients were categorized into serious infection (severe illness n = 25; critical illness n = 9) and the median duration from COVID-19 diagnosis to serious infections was 6 days (range, 0-29) days. Thirteen (4.2%) and 6 (1.9%) patients required intensive care unit care and invasive mechanical ventilation, respectively. Receiving more than 1 type of immunosuppressive therapies at COVID-19 diagnosis was associated with severity and persistence of infection. Six patients (1.9%) died after diagnosis of COVID-19 infection. The 4-week probability of overall survival after COVID-19 diagnosis was 98.7%, which was 100% and 88.2% for non-serious and serious infection group (P < 0.001), respectively. Thus, we observed a relatively low serious infection and mortality rate in allo-HSCT recipients infected with COVID-19 caused by Omicron variant.

RESUMEN

Bismuth and bismuth-based compounds have been extensively studied as anodes as prospective candidates for rechargeable magnesium batteries (rMBs). However, the unsatisfactory magnesium-storage capability caused by the typical alloying reaction mechanism severely restricts the practical option for anodes in rMBs. Herein, polyaniline intercalated Bi2O2CO3 nanosheets are prepared by an effective interlayer engineering strategy to fine-tune the layer structure of Bi2O2CO3, achieving enhanced magnesium-storage capacity, rate performance, as well as long cycle life. Excitedly, a stepwise insertion-conversion-alloying reaction is aroused to stabilize the performance, which is elucidated by in/ex situ investigations. Moreover, first-principles calculations confirm that the coupling of Bi2O2CO3 and polyaniline not only increases the conductivity induced by the strong density of states and the interior self-built-in electric field but also significantly reduces the energy barrier of Mg shuttles. Our findings shed light on exploring new electrode materials with an appropriate working mechanism toward high-performance rechargeable batteries.

RESUMEN

At present, there have been many clinical trials and systematic reviews/Meta-analysis proving the good clinical efficacy of Shufeng Jiedu Capsules in the treatment of respiratory diseases, while comprehensive discussion is still required. This article overviews and analyzes the systematic reviews/Meta-analysis of Shufeng Jiedu Capsules to provide evidence support for clinical practice. The systematic reviews/Meta-analysis of Shufeng Jiedu Capsules were searched from CBM, Wanfang, CNKI, VIP, PubMed, EMbase and Cochrane Library. The AMSTAR 2 scale and GRADE system were respectively employed for the evaluation of methodological quality and the grading of evidence quality. Finally, 8 systematic reviews/Meta-analysis published during 2018-2021 were included for analysis. The diseases involved include acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, community-acquired pneumonia, acute tonsillitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and acute upper respiratory tract infection. The number of included RCTs studies ranged from 8 to 25. The results showed that Shufeng Jiedu Capsules combined with western medicine routine had better therapeutic effect than the latter alone in the treatment of the above five diseases. The reported adverse reactions caused by Shufeng Jiedu Capsules were mainly gastrointestinal discomforts such as mild nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting, with low incidence and mild symptoms, which can be relieved by drug withdrawal. The methodological quality of the included studies was extremely low, and the outcome indicators were mainly of low and very low grades. The efficacy and safety of Shufeng Jiedu Capsules in the clinical treatment of diseases still need to be verified based on more high-quality studies. The relevant clinical research and systematic review/Meta-analysis should pay more attention to methodological quality and reporting standards and strengthen the scientificity of research.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), one of the most economically important leaf vegetables, exhibits early bolting under high-temperature conditions. Early bolting leads to loss of commodity value and edibility, leading to considerable loss and waste of resources. However, the initiation and molecular mechanism underlying early bolting induced by high temperature remain largely elusive. RESULTS: In order to better understand this phenomenon, we defined the lettuce bolting starting period, and the high temperature (33 °C) and controlled temperature (20 °C) induced bolting starting phase of proteomics is analyzed, based on the iTRAQ-based proteomics, phenotypic measurement, and biological validation by RT-qPCR. Morphological and microscopic observation showed that the initiation of bolting occurred 8 days after high-temperature treatment. Fructose accumulated rapidly after high-temperature treatment. During initiation of bolting, of the 3305 identified proteins, a total of 93 proteins exhibited differential abundances, 38 of which were upregulated and 55 downregulated. Approximately 38% of the proteins were involved in metabolic pathways and were clustered mainly in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. Furthermore, some proteins involved in sugar synthesis were differentially expressed and were also associated with energy production. CONCLUSIONS: This report is the first to report on the metabolic changes involved in the initiation of bolting in lettuce. Our study suggested that energy metabolism and ribosomal proteins are pivotal components during initiation of bolting. This study could provide a potential regulatory mechanism for the initiation of early bolting by high temperature, which could have applications in the manipulation of lettuce for breeding.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: China is facing big challenges to achieve the "90-90-90 targets". The HIV prevalence of elderly (≥50 years) men have been steadily increasing in China, mainly through the sexual transmission route, but sexual behaviors of them are far from well-studied. In 2019, elderly men accounted for 59.2% of HIV/AIDS cases in Sichuan, China. METHODS: The research design is a cross-sectional study. Face-to-face interviews were conducted among 795 HIV negative elderly men from rural Chengdu, capital City of Sichuan. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to examine factors associated with commercial heterosexual behavior from a modified Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (KAP) perspective. RESULTS: 129 (16.23%) respondents admitted high-risk sexual behaviors, including 11.07% commercial heterosexual behavior, 6.16% extramarital, 2.89% casual and 0.25% homosexual behavior, and no one used condom consistently. 427(68.43%) had ever gotten HIV-related Health Education (HRHE), mainly through mass media (70.49%). The HIV-related knowledge awareness rate was only 31.41%. Migration history (AOR =2.46,95% CI = 1.02-5.91), age(≥60 vs. 50-59, OR = 0.41, 95% CI = 0.19-0.91), receiving HRHE from mass media (OR = 0.37, 95%CI = 0.16-0.85), marital status (married vs. never married, OR = 0.04, 95%CI = 0-0.52), and undecided (AOR =0.02, 95%CI = 0.01-0.09) and objection (AOR =0.04, 95%CI = 0.01-0.1) attitude toward commercial sex were related to lifetime commercial heterosexual behavior. CONCLUSIONS: High-risk sexual behaviors are common among elderly men from rural areas in Chengdu. Receiving HRHE from mass media and undecided and objection attitude toward commercial sex prevent elderly from being involving in commercial heterosexual behavior. According to the results, health facilities should continue to conduct systematic interventions, paying more attention to 50-59 years old group. Sex and condom use need to be talked in public. Working with mass media, health facilities give elderly men education not only focusing on HIV/AIDS, but also on knowledge and skills of condom use.

RESUMEN

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Review the content, quality and effect of breast cancer screening decision aids (BCS-DAs) in women approximately 50 years of age to provide a basis for the development of DAs. BACKGROUND: Breast cancer screening (BCS) decisions are complex and should vary depending on a woman's risk of breast cancer and her values and preferences. Decision aids (DAs) can help support women and medical staff in shared decision-making (SDM) when solving BCS problems. DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Four databases were searched starting at the time of establishment of the database to March 2021. The PRISMA checklist was followed. The meta-analysis was carried out using Review Manager 5.3 software. The quality of the studies was assessed using the risk of bias tool recommended by the Cochrane Handbook. The quality of the DAs was assessed using the International Standards for Decision Aid (IPDASi v4.0). RESULTS: The search strategy obtained 2024 references. After abstraction and full text screening, a total of seven studies were included. This article systematically reviews the content, quality and effectiveness of DAs in seven RCTs in helping women to make BCS decisions. The DAs were mostly in paper or online form and displayed disease screening information, analysed the benefits and harms of options and clarified the value to patients. Among all the DAs, only one met the minimum quality standards of IPDASi v4.0. Comprehensive analysis shows that DAs can significantly improve knowledge and increase the proportion of women who make informed choices, but they have no effect on screening attitude, intention, decision conflict or regret. CONCLUSIONS: In the future, nurses should be encouraged to develop DAs in accordance with strict standards and to make them applicable to young women of different backgrounds. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: The result may be provide a basis for the development of DAs to promote women's informed screening choices.

RESUMEN

Objective To establish a human colon cancer cell line HCT-116/5-FU resistant to 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)and explore the relationship between runt-related transcription factor 3(RUNX3)and drug resistance of colorectal cancer. Methods The human colon cancer cell line HCT-116/5-FU with resistance to 5-FU was established by low concentration gradient increment combined with high-dose intermittent shock.CCK-8 method was used to determine the half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)of 5-FU on the parent line HCT-116 and drug-resistant line HCT-116/5-FU.The cell growth curve was established for the calculation of population doubling time(TD).The mRNA levels and protein levels of RUNX3,P-glycoprotein(P-gp),multidrug resistance-associated protein 1(MRP1),and lung resistance-related protein(LRP)in HCT-116 and HCT-116/5-FU cells were determined by qRT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. The RUNX3 expression in HCT-116 cells was knocked down by siRNA technique, and the cells were divided into RUNX3 knockdown groups(si-RUNX3-1 group and si-RUNX3-2 group)and negative control group(si-NC group). The knockdown efficiency was verified by qRT-PCR at the mRNA level and Western blotting at the protein level. The IC50 in si-RUNX3 groups and si-NC group was determined with CCK-8 method, and the expression of P-gp,MRP1,and LRP in the two groups was detected by Western blotting. Results A stable human colon cancer drug-resistant cell line HCT-116/5-FU was successfully constructed.HCT-116/5-FU showed the TD 1.38 times as long as that of HCT-116(P=0.002)and changed morphology. The mRNA level of RUNX3 in HCT-116/5-FU cells was significantly lower than that in HCT-116 cells(P=0.048),and those of P-gp(P=0.008),MRP1(P=0.001),and LRP(P=0.001)showed the opposite trend. The protein level of RUNX3 in HCT-116/5-FU cells was significantly lower than that in HCT-116(P<0.001),and those of P-gp,MRP1,and LRP presented the opposite trend(all P<0.001).The HCT-116 cell model with low expression of RUNX3 was successfully established. The mRNA level of RUNX3 had no significant difference between si-RUNX3-1 group and si-NC group(P=0.064),while the level in si-RUNX3-2 group was significantly lower than that in si-NC group(P=0.034).The protein levels of RUNX3 in si-RUNX3-1 group and si-RUNX3-2 group were lower than that in si-NC group(both P<0.001).The results demonstrated higher knocking efficiency in si-RUNX3-2 group, which was thus selected to complete the follow-up test. The IC50 of si-RUNX3 group was significantly higher than that of si-NC group(P<0.001),which indicated that the down-regulated expression of RUNX3 could reduce the sensitivity of HCT-116 cells to 5-FU.The relative protein levels of P-gp,MRP1,and LRP in si-RUNX3 group were significantly higher than those in si-NC group(all P<0.001).Conclusion The down-regulation of RUNX3 expression can reduce the sensitivity of HCT-116 cells to 5-FU,which is considered to be related to the up-regulated expression of P-gp,MRP1,and LRP.

RESUMEN

Engineering intriguing electrode with exceptional kinetics behaviors is imperative for boosting sodium storage systems. Herein, the uniform nanoframes are threaded by the interwoven carbon nanotube (CNT) conductive network to form an ingenious beads-on-a-string structured NiFePBA nanoframe/CNT (NFPB-NF/CNT) cathode and the corresponding derivative NiFeSe nanoframe/CNT (NFS-NF/CNT) anode. NFPB-NF/CNT exhibited remarkable cycling life along with outstanding rate capability and low voltage decay per cycle. The fast Na+ conduction and sufficient sodiation reaction is proved using Na+ diffusion models. Meanwhile, an exceptional sodium storage capacity and prolonged cycling life is achieved using binary NFS-NF/CNT anode at a high rate. In situ and ex situ investigations are used to reveal the sodium storage mechanisms and structural evolution process. Furthermore, a sodium-ion full battery based on the above electrodes shows stable performance accompanied by high energy conversion efficiency. The material design strategy provides a new solution for exploiting smart multicomponent composites toward advanced energy storage devices.

RESUMEN

Growing data have recognized the significance of Response Gene to Complement (RGC)-32 in numerous tumour developments. Notwithstanding, the functional role and underlying mechanism of it in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) remain enigmatic. Here, to identify the impact of RGC-32 in TSCC, its expression in multiple TSCC cells was measured and loss-of-function experiments in cell lines were performed to illuminate the function of it induced TSCC progression, via si-RNA knockdown, CCK-8, colony formation, wound-healing, transwell, flow cytometry and western blot assays. To clarify potential mechanism, expressions of hallmarks in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and PI3K/AKT signalling were assessed, and the upstream miR regulator of RGC-32 was predicted and verified by applying bioinformatic approaches and dual-luciferase reporter assay, respectively. Finally, the rescue experiments were applied to better elucidate the effect of miR-26b/RGC-32 axis in TSCC behaviours. As a result, RGC-32 was upregulated in TSCC cells and knocking down of it abrogated cell proliferation, trans-migration and invasion, whilst promoted apoptosis in TSCC, which was regulated through repressing EMT and inactivation of PI3K/AKT signalling. Subsequently, miR-26b was predicted and identified as an upstream regulator of RGC-32, and the pro-tumorigenic effect of RGC-32 was reversed by miR-26b overexpression. Collectively, our results demonstrated that RGC-32 facilitated TSCC progression, which was modulated by activations of PI3K/AKT pathway and EMT process, and reduction of its negative regulator of miR-26b. These findings highlight a novel role of miR-26b/RGC-32 axis in TSCC and underlying mechanism, encouraging a potent usage in TSCC treatment. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY: We first uncovered that Response Gene to Complement-32 played a significantly pro-tumorigenic role in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC), which was closely regulated by downregulation of miR-26b and activations of epithelial-mesenchymal transition process and PI3K/AKT signalling. These findings contribute to better understand the molecular mechanism in carcinogenesis of TSCC, and shed some light on promising strategy for TSCC therapeutics.

RESUMEN

The polysulfide shuttle effect and sluggish reaction kinetics hamper the practical applications of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Incorporating a functional interlayer to trapping and binding polysulfides has been found effective to block polysulfide migration. Furthermore, surface chemistry at soluble polysulfides/electrolyte interface is a crucial step for Li-S battery in which stable cycling depends on adsorption and reutilization of blocked polysulfides in the electrolyte. A multifunctional catalytic interface composed of niobium nitride/N-doped graphene (NbN/NG) along the soluble polysulfides/electrolyte is designed and constructed to regulate corresponding interface chemical reaction, which can afford long-range electron transfer surfaces, numerous strong chemisorption, and catalytic sites in a working lithium-sulfur battery. Both experimental and theoretical calculation results suggest that a new catalytic interface enabled by metal-like NbN with superb electrocatalysis anchored on NG is highly effective in regulating the blocked polysulfide redox reaction and tailoring the Li2 S nucleation-growth-decomposition process. Therefore, the Li-S batteries with multifunctional NbN/NG barrier exhibit excellent rate performance (621.2 mAh g-1 at 3 C) and high stable cycling life (81.5% capacity retention after 400 cycles). This work provides new insights to promote Li-S batteries via multifunctional catalytic interface engineering.

RESUMEN

Developing an environmentally friendly and low-cost approach to improve electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has drawn wide attention due to its significant value and challenge. NbS2-based materials exhibit high performance catalytic activity in electrochemical area, but its poor stability and synthetic difficulty limits its development and application. This work reports on the enhancement of HER performance through the utilization of conductive polymer polypyrrole (Ppy) on NbS2 nanowires as electrocatalysts, which can be easily prepared. The Ppy coated NbS2 nanowires obtain excellent catalytic activity for HER with low onset potential (-56 mV) and much lower overpotential (-219 mV) at a current of -10 mA cm-2 compared with bare NbS2 nanowires.

RESUMEN

An ultrasensitive enzyme-free electrochemical sandwich DNA biosensor is described for the detection of ssDNA oligonucleotides. A DNA sequence derived from the genom of Helicobacter pylori was selected as a model target DNA. The DNA assay was realized through catching target DNA on capture DNA immobilized gold electrode; then labeling the target DNA with reporter DNA (rpDNA) and initiator DNA (iDNA) co-modified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The high density of iDNAs serves as one of the amplification strategies. The iDNA triggers hybridization chain reaction (HCR) between two hairpins. This leads to the formation of a long dsDNA concatamer strand and represents one amplification strategy. The electrochemical probe [Ru(NH3)5L]2+, where L stands for 3-(2-phenanthren-9-ylvinyl)pyridine, intercalated into dsDNA chain. Multiple probe molecules intercalate into one dsDNA chain, serving as one amplification strategy. The electrode was subjected to differential pulse voltammetry for signal acquisition, and the oxidation peak current at -0.28 V was recorded. On each AuNP, 240 iDNA and 25 rpDNA molecules were immobilized. Successful execution of HCR at the DNA-modified AuNPs was confirmed by gel electrophoresis and hydrodynamic diameter measurements. Introduction of HCR significantly enhances the DNA detection signal intensity. The assay has two linear ranges of different slopes, one from 0.01 fM to 0.5 fM; and one from 1 fM to 100 fM. The detection limit is as low as 0.68 aM. Single mismatch DNA can be differentiated from the fully complementary DNA. Conceivably, this highly sensitive and selective assay provides a general method for detection of various kinds of DNA. Graphical abstractSchematic representation of the detection and the amplification principles of the electrochemical sandwich DNA assay. Purple curl: Captured DNA; Green curl: Reporter DNA; Orange curl: HCR initiator DNA; Yellow solid-circle: Gold nanoparticle; H1 and H2: Two hairpin DNA; [Ru(NH3)5L]2+: Signal probe.

RESUMEN

Brassica campestris Male Fertility 20 (BcMF20) is a typical zinc-finger transcription factor that was previously isolated from flower buds of Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris ssp. chinensis). By applying expression pattern analysis, it can be known that BcMF20 was specifically and strongly expressed in tapetum and pollen, beginning from the uninucleate stage, and was maintained during the mature-pollen stage. As BcMF20 was highly conserved in Cruciferae, it can be indicated that this zinc-finger transcription factor is important during the growth of Cruciferae. In this study, 12 C2H2-type zinc-finger TFs which shared high homology with BcMF20 were found from NCBI via BLAST. A new molecular phylogenetic tree was constructed by the comparison between BcMF20 and these 12 C2H2-type zinc-finger TFs with NJ method. By analyzing this phylogenetic tree, the evolution of BcMF20 was discussed. Then, antisense RNA technology was applied in the transgenesis of Arabidopsis thaliana to get the deletion mutants of BcMF20, so that its function during the pollen development can be identified. The results showed: BcMF20 are in the same clade with three genes from Arabidopsis. The inhibition of BcMF20 expression led to smaller amounts of and lower rate in germination of pollen and lower rate in fruit setting in certain transgenetic plants. This also led to the complete collapse of pollen grains. By SEM and TEM, pollen morphology and anther development processes were observed. In the middle uninucleate microspore stage, a relatively thin or even no primexine was formed in microspores. This may result in the malformation of the pollen wall and finally cause the deformity of pollens. Above all, it can be indicated that BcMF20 may act as a part of regulation mechanisms of TAZ1 and MS1. Together they play a role in a genetic pathway in the tapetum to act on proliferation of tapetal cells and keep the normal development of pollens.

RESUMEN

A fast calculation method to obtain the full-analytical frequency spectrum of a spatial triangle based on the three-dimensional (3D) affine transformation is presented. Computer-generated holograms (CGHs) of an object can then be generated rapidly using the angular spectrum for propagation. The derivation process in the theory, which has more preciseness, indicates a difference from previous methods based on affine transformations ([Appl. Opt.47, 1567 (2008)Appl. Opt.52, A290 (2013)]). The proposed method to achieve 3D transformation from an arbitrary triangle to a primitive triangle includes two steps: 3D rotation and 2D affine transformation. The overall transform matrix is given by the product of a rotation matrix and a 2D affine matrix. A modified back-face culling is also introduced based on exterior normal for correct occlusion relation. Several complex 3D objects are implemented successfully using the proposed method in numerical simulations and optical experiments. The resulting computation time demonstrates that the efficiency of the proposed method is enhanced as compared to that of previous works.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the article is to evaluate the changes in lipid metabolism in bovine mammary-gland epithelial MAC-T cells after PKM2 knockdown. RESULTS: MAC-T cells stably expressing low levels of PKM2 were established with lentivirus-mediated small hairpin RNA. Although the knockdown of PKM2 had no effect on MAC-T cell growth, the reduced expression of PKM2 attenuated the mRNA and protein expression of key enzymes involved in sterol synthesis through the SREBP pathway. CONCLUSIONS: The downregulation of PKM2 significantly influenced lipid synthesis in bovine mammary-gland epithelial MAC-T cells. These findings extend our understanding of the crosstalk between glycolysis and lipid metabolism in bovine mammary-gland epithelial cells.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIV: The authors devised a multiple small incisions minimally invasive technique for use in isolated nonsyndromic sagittal synostosis to achieve better esthetic effect and satisfactory reshaping of the calvarial vault. The purpose of this study is to provide clinicians with new and feasible solution. METHODS: From April 2016 to January 2017, 5 male patients were successfully treated with minimally invasive surgery. The age ranges from 1.5 to 3.3 years. The authors designed 9 short skin linear incisions (2-3 cm long) strategically to disperse in the scalp. The patient was assessed in a series including sex, age of surgery, blood loss, blood transfusion, duration of surgery, postoperative complications, preoperative and postoperative cephalic index (CI), length of stay (LOS), esthetic outcomes, and intellectual developmental quotient (DQ). RESULTS: The shortest operation time is 1.5 hours. The shortest hospital stay is 6 days. The blood loss ranged from 135 to 280 mL. No serious complications occurred during the follow-up time. Postoperative 3-dimensional CT scan showed that the extensive floating bone formed well. Preoperative CI ranged from 64.2 to 68 and postoperatively 69.4 to 74.3. Mental development was tested by children heath care practioners, significantly improving DQ from 67 to 81 preoperatively and 76 to 90 postoperatively. All children receive good esthetic results. CONCLUSION: The new technique is safe and effective. The advantages are satisfactory: calvarial fornix remodeling, less visible appearance of scars, shorter length of surgery, lower mental and financial stress, optimal age for surgery, no endoscopic adjuvant and postoperative helmet are needed.

RESUMEN

The present study aimed to compare polyphenols among red lettuce cultivars and identify suitable cultivars for the development and utilization of healthy vegetables. Polyphenols, mineral elements, and antioxidant activity were analyzed in the leaves of six red pigmented lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) cultivars; thereafter, we assessed the anti-tumor effects of cultivar B-2, which displayed the highest antioxidant activity. Quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry analysis revealed four classes of polyphenols in these cultivars. The composition and contents of these metabolites varied significantly among cultivars and primarily depended on leaf color. The B-2 cultivar had the highest antioxidant potential than others because it contained the highest levels of polyphenols, especially anthocyanin, flavone, and phenolic acid; furthermore, this cultivar displayed anti-tumor effects against the human lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549, human hepatoma cell line Bel7402, human cancer colorectal adenoma cell line HCT-8, and HT-29 human colon cancer cell line. Hence, the new red-leaf lettuce cultivar B-2 has a distinct metabolite profile, with high potential for development and utilization of natural phytochemical and mineral resources in lettuces and can be used as a nutrient-dense food product.

RESUMEN

Bolting is a key process in the growth and development of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). A high temperature can induce early bolting, which decreases both the quality and production of lettuce. However, knowledge of underlying lettuce bolting is still lacking. To better understand the molecular basis of bolting, a comparative proteomics analysis was conducted on lettuce stems, during the bolting period induced by a high temperature (33 °C) and a control temperature (20 °C) using iTRAQ-based proteomics, phenotypic measures, and biological verifications using qRT-PCR and Western blot. The high temperature induced lettuce bolting, while the control temperature did not. Of the 5454 identified proteins, 619 proteins presented differential abundance induced by high-temperature relative to the control group, of which 345 had an increased abundance and 274 had a decreased abundance. Proteins with an abundance level change were mainly enriched in pathways associated with photosynthesis and tryptophan metabolism involved in auxin (IAA) biosynthesis. Moreover, among the proteins with differential abundance, proteins associated with photosynthesis and tryptophan metabolism were increased. These findings indicate that a high temperature enhances the function of photosynthesis and IAA biosynthesis to promote the process of bolting, which is in line with the physiology and transcription level of IAA metabolism. Our data provide a first comprehensive dataset for gaining novel understanding of the molecular basis underlying lettuce bolting induced by high temperature. It is potentially important for further functional analysis and genetic manipulation for molecular breeding to breed new cultivars of lettuce to restrain early bolting, which is vital for improving vegetable quality.
